At the end of this year's Olympics in Rio, we were all SHOCKED to see the Prime Minister of Japan jump out of a human-sized green pipe, dressed as Mario, and declare that the 2020 Olympics will be in Japan! His announcemenet made me wonder, just how would good old Mario fare at the Olympics? It seems like he'd crush the competition, but science might have something else to say about it. So does Mario take home the gold, or does he unexpectedly not even make it into the winner's circle?

I'm pretty sure Mario can instantly long jump the moment he lands, making it possible.
The problem is that the triple jump isn't just three jump: it's often called the "Hop, Skip, and Jump." The second jump is from the same leg you land on, which makes it look like a skip.
I always thought the second one was called step :/
But yeah, I was kinda torn between facepalming and finding it cute how MatPat naively just chained three full jumps together. Also to consider that you have a limited area where you can perform your jump from first to last jump.

Mario is a worldwide star from the Super Mario franchise, and has been around for about thirty years. In this document, we return to Super Mario Bros., an 1986 game for the NES home console. Today, we will find out what planet this game takes place on.
In the game, spaces are separated by squares (the size of question blocks, bricks, etc.). It would be reasonable if each of these squares is one meter high (this would be a fair human height, and Mario does grow taller otherwise).
Normally, a human can jump about ⅓ of their height in the air (meaning that if you measured from the top of their head to the ground mid-jump, they would be 1.33 times their normal height.) But in Super Mario Bros., Mario can become FOUR times his standard height! (In the future, we will round this up, as Mario is known for his jumping.)
Now, we compare four to 1.33. Four is about 3 times 1.33. So, we divide Earth’s acceleration of gravity (9.8) by 3, getting about 3.3. (We do not need to do these calculations for any other characters, as all humans jump the same in the game.)
After finding this quotient, I researched the gravities of nearby planets. And, to my amazement, one planet actually met the standards: Mars.
Mars has a standard acceleration of gravity of 3.711 m/s2, which is not far from our previous 3.3 (As I said, we would round up.). But I believe Super Mario Bros. isn’t just placed on Mars, but on ancient Mars.
Ancient Mars had some flat plains (before certain meteors) (ground levels), deep caverns (underground levels), jagged cliffs (mountain levels), large deposits of water/ice (underwater levels), and a LOT of magma (Bowser’s castle).
