Yo there was a frickin huge debate a couple of comments down somebody was like “Um HeS sPrInTiNg” and we all were like “Um No HeS rEaLlY nOt” but you are correct he is running more like a sprinter because it puts less force on the heels which can get sprinters to run smoother. Science, man
Shoes for sprinting are way different from long-distance running shoes as well. The absorbtion of your actual downward muscle-burst is way too high to be compensated by the "bouncing" effect. Also the wholes/claws could function like spikes.
My track coach always has sprinter land on the pads of there toes. You save time when you run like that because you don't have to wait for your foot to get to the right position to push off the ground, it's already in the right position. Also, most kleats have the majority of the spikes in the front because that's where you push off the ground and need the most traction. Sonic runs so fast it's basically a prolonged sprint, so comparing his running style to people who run marathons might throw off your data.
I was thinking the exact same thing. But my question was why the shoe wore out at the base. Any pair of shoes I've owned has gotten holes at the toe first, so wouldn't a similar situation happen with sonic? Would it be different because he's traveling at faster speeds?
Hey Mat!! Just wanted to note one thing. Another reason Sonic might be running on his toes is because that is what professional sprinters do in the real world. To gain acceleration and velocity, sprinters run on their toes and lean forward so that they are more aerodynamic. This makes their speed faster and in turn, makes them a better sprinter. The speed Sonic is going makes me think that not only is it more comfortable for him, but it is also a better running style for running fast instead of long periods of time.
@@daniellepettway5009 its a movie plot that shows reason why he is never tired from running but it could be this thing where he haves the ability to run forever. Its a person who able to run forever without stopping from some thing he wasnt born with that prevents him from stop running for so long

Yeah this was my same thought. Sonic's all about speed and MatPat was comparing him to marathon runners instead of sprinters haha. Almost like he did too much analysis
Even when I was a Mile / Two Miler we spent most of the run on the forefoot. I believe the advantage from backfoot striking doesn't kick in until long distances like Marathons.
Why aren't sprinters considered in this theory? Sprinter's shoes have spikes on the forefoot region which emphasizes the fact that running on your toes generates greater force to run faster 🤷🏻♂️ just a thought
@@bobbob5255 I don't think you're giving matpat enough credit haha I have no doubt he could still have a video. If anything, he could have used the sprinter's fact to emphasize everything he said about running on your forefoot. Regardless, I was just surprised it wasn't mentioned at all, I think it was still a good video.
The cushion runs (ha) out first on the heel. I think the toe holes you are talking about comes when the bottom of the shoe starts to peel away from the main part (sorry I don't know shoe anatomy), which I have had happen a few times.
@@autumn4442 From my experience running track and XC you usually get similar wear on the heel and toes because even if you land on the heel you toe off of the ground, the Vaporflys are designed to roll your foot from the heelstrike to toe off position with minimal effort which is where a lot of the efficiency comes from
@delplays probably, but it also is partly because I kept buying from payless, I stopped having the problem after I started buying more expensive shoes, now I just need to figure out where to get shoes where my feet actually rests above the soles.
All my shoes, the sole eventually cracks under the ball of my foot where I walk on it. Some folks just naturally walk and run on the ball of their foot. I'm pretty sure it's as genetic as handedness or whatever.
Me as a distance Runner: Of course Sonic is a sprinter and uses his toes. Game Theory: So marathon runners are professional runners and show what all runners are.... Me: But Sonic is a sprinter, he never spend more than 30 seconds running :(
I’m more concerned that you think sonic is “marathon running.” He’s constantly at a full sprint, with his shoulders leaned in front of his toes upon footfall. Meaning he’s “digging in” and pushing off with his toes.
Dark3y3 also the reason why his arms are back and not swinging is help reduce wind Resistance which would be quite high when running at that speed and more of a Concern than using your arms for Momentum which is less effective at that point since the speed is enough momentum already
What’s also odd Is that Mat talked about heel striking while talking about marathon runners. Heel striking is used by sprinters. Marathon runners and cross country runners usually don’t need extra force.
For long distances, run on heel, for sprinting speeds, toes. Matpat did a poor job explaining this or actually doesn't know that marathon and distance runners do not represent all runners like sprinters. Usain bolt ran his records without his heels ever touching the ground.
Whenever it comes to running, I always try to use the forefoot method. While most runners use the heel strike, you don't feel that kind of impact using the forefoot method. It's especially noticeable when you don't have on proper shoes. Running is almost like jumping in terms of impact. Jumping and landing on your feet flat will resort in risk of injury, so it's much better landing on your forefeet since it forces the posture of your legs to be bent, allowing you to bounce and equal out the energy. While running isn't exactly jumping, the same concepts still apply. Heel strike running sends the impact up your legs, but with forefoot running, you're equaling out that energy by forcing your legs to be in a more springy position. The best example of this is basically any animal whose hind legs are made for running and jumping, like cats, rabbits, and dogs. They're not using their heels, they do all that on their toes.
For all who are interested: "Knowing better" just released a video talking about how heelstriking got the norm for jogging and how it is actually worse for you. So you might wanna check that out. On another note Kipchoge is actually not using a heelstrike but a midfoot strike, which kinda invalidates an important part of Mattpats argument.
I remember seeing a ted talk about a similar idea. It basically stated that the majority of World records aren't due to people, but a change in everything from environment to clothing. Look at swimmers who had those full body suits back in 2008 (or whenever it was), they were absolutely smashing records.
I’m really hoping MatPat will do more Sonic Movie theories for the sequel. Maybe how strong would Knuckles have to be to go properly go toe to toe with Sonic? Either way the more love these movies get the better. I am SO STOCKED for the sequel. April can’t come fast enough.
Mat Pat: Heel runners experience a jolt from the force they exert, throwing off their natural rhythm. Me, who was already a toe runner: HA! I'm not crazy!
@@sambaxter7035 depends on what distance and pace, but as a general guideline it's a terrible piece of advice. In a sprint, middle distance run (800m/1500m) or where the pace is rapidly changing it is advised to run on your toes as the leg will create a spring and the force required to increase the run's pace, while long-distance doesn't need that explosiveness so a heel strike is recommended. The human body isn't designed for a flat foot (heel strike ) run, it's incredibly bad for our ankles and our knees due to the impact causing shockwaves throughout the ankle and knee causing a lot of internal bone striking, which is why athletes are told to run through a finish rather than into a sudden stop to reduce that internal striking. What is best is a mix, as they have different advantages based on what the circumstance and the foot is. It's why you see soccer midfielders switch back and forth in their stance because their role requires them to be running two to three times the distance as any other position.
Thumbnail: Sonic Runs WRONG! Video: Sonic is running in the easiest, most natural, organic way a two legged humanoid can run. Me: Hmm. Something doesn't add up.
Unfortunately, no. Matpat missed a few details. Whilst toe striking is in theory better than heel striking in every way (no idea where he got the bs about top runners heel striking, the majority of them don't and will tell you to avoid it). As heel striking is exclusively a biomechanically incorrect movement induced by shoes which prevent proper form. The best shoes just manage to compensate for the incredibly inefficient motion. Toe striking is also not ideal. As it prevents your foot from naturally rebounding the way its supposed to. Absorbing energy instead of storing it and bouncing. The ideal form according to the world foremost experts, is a tripod landing. Ie. Toe and heel strike simultaneously. This gives you the best rebound, as well as the least joint strain. This is how our bodies are designed to run, biomechanically. And why our feet are arched. Fun fact, if you look at the few remaining hunter gatherer cultures, this is how they run.
@@StapleCactus it takes some getting used to. After all your fascial system is probably adapted to improper form atm and there are some differences in which muscles are involved. But the research has show, that a tripod landing, slightly ahead of your body, almost directly under it, decreases stress overall and produces the most efficient movement.
@@Erowens98 I apparently have an issue that went undiscovered as a kid that prevents my foot from bending as far up as other people. Maybe that's why I find toe-striking more comfortable. When I was a child, I always stood/walked on my toes and doctors said I'd just grow out of it instead of looking into why. Even now, regular walking pulls on the calf tendon.
Follow-up theory: could Sonic's socks be worn out on the heel instead of the toes because his old shoes were too large for his feet? If that's the case, then it's easy to imagine his feet sliding inside the shoe and thus wearing out the sock in unusual places.
I find it it real sincere that Mat probably never did sprint track races, therefore he thought sonics shoes were so strange. But i love that in his research he was able to discover that Sonic's weird holes were actually very reasonable. Good job Mat 👍
Yo, I'd say Sonic is a sprinter NOT a marathon runner: his whole thing is his speed not endurance. Sprinters land ball first or slightly flat footed, not heel first.
Thats not necessarily true. When runners are training, we always train with heel striking, and roll back to front to get as much explosiveness as possible. We only ever run on our toes for a finish kick in distance or the last 20m or so for sprints.
I remember watching an animation of one of his models in a game (I think it was his running animation in Sonic Unleashed) and he was sticking the floor with the front of his shoes. 🤔
Does it matter? I feel anyone can see Sonic as either a sprinter or a marathon runner. Remember he is a blue hedgehog that can run faster then the speed of sound. Mat's video was focus on one aspect of runners. Not saying that others focusing on sprinting is wrong. Both can be valid. Considering Sonic is not human.
I feel the need to point out that his first shoes were probably second hand. He can't exactly stroll into a store and buy a pair, and with his role model being a sherrif I doubt he'd steal them, so he probably got them second hand when they were thrown out/donated Thank you for coming to my TED talk
This video is highly frustrating. If MatPat actually did his research he would learn the proper terms. Heel striking is not landing on you heel, it refers to over reaching trying to take steps that are too long which results in your feet landing past your center of gravity which slows you down. Secondly Kipchoge does't even land on his heel, instead he lands on the middle of his feet / close to the forefoot. I am disappointed in mat Pat's research :(
Also (Im a Sport Performance Coach), in training for sprinting, the acceleration phase is spent toe/midfoot striking with the majority of the body over or center of gravity (so basically we're leaned forward in order to accelerate easier). Perhaps Sonic is still accelerating, never reaching his top speed?

I feel like you're missing a HUGE point in the argument, and that is that Sonic isn't running, he's sprinting. Sure, he goes long distances like a long distance runner, but he's going so fast that he can only go long distances. D.Rs and Sprinters have very different ways of running, because of how they have to keep themselves healthy. Striking your toes on the ground for 3000m is going to ruin your shins while 100m isn't. As a sprinter, you strike with your toes, because it makes you faster. As a D.R. you strike your heal, because it doesn't put all your weight into your shins. Sonic's style of running is a sprint, so naturally he would use his toes. My shoes always wear out at the toes, whether they're my walking or running shoes, because I've taught myself to run that way as a sprinter myself. And I've tried both running styles and using your heal when trying to sprint is a terrible disadvantage, because there's more motion to go through. And with every high action, and high energy thing Sonic gets himself into, he's gonna want to run as fast as he can, so he's going to sprint. I hope this wasn't too rambly, but I just wanted to put that out there. Hope it makes sense to someone, and have a nice day. :)
I run XC and track and this is 100% the way to run, even in distance races when you kick at the end you end up rolling onto your toes instead of heel striking
Also, as Mythbusters always used to say, "Gravity Doesn't Scale." Sonic is moving so fast gravity doesn't have time to start pulling him down between steps, so his shock-load is way less than a human sprinter or DR would be.
what about when sonic scrapes the end of his shoes against the ground at the speed of light+? wouldn’t that destroy the end mostly since the heel would hit the ground but it would bounce.
I've come to watch this video again because I just learned that I've apparently been running on my toes all these years without realizing it. I literally can't heel strike. I tried it as soon as I was told I was running the wrong way, but it's as if I'm just walking fast instead of actually running, and it requires so much efforts compared to my usual running.
Sonic when he runs at maximum velocity he turns into a complete hyper ball. Is it addressed in this video? Nope..🤦♂️ How bout the movie?..Of course not 🤦♂️
I remember somewhere in some form of media about Sonic that the "infinity signs" actually was his own special style of "figure 8 running" or something, which made his feet hit twice as often, so Sonic could run substantially faster than normal because of it. Naturally, this doesn't work for a lot of reasons.

This whole video was also done in terms of marathon runners, where at least from my own track experience sprinters are actually taught to run on their toes because you can get more speed out of it, its just not as efficient so for distance runners you run with the heel because your never a top speed your looking for the fastest efficient way to run. This is also shown in track spikes where sprinting spikes are centered at the very front, but distance spikes are slightly more spread towards the back (although still at the front)

Heel vs Forefoot: If you're running for distance and endurance, then you should Heel Strike. If you're running for speed (sprinting) then you should Forefoot Strike. Stay on your toes, lean forward, and swing those arms in straight lines, not across the body. (I was a sprinter on the track team in HS, kids.) Sonic is a SPRINTER. Granted, he can do it for weirdly long distances, but he is definitely sprinting. FOREFOOT.
I do long distance and my coach says not to use heels because you wast energy pulling yourself forward but don't use your toes as much as if your sprinting because obviously your not sprinting
Not trying to nitpick but modern sprinting schools of thought prefer an upright runner once at top speed. For all you sprinter's out there, don't lean at top speed!

Sonic should be forefoot running, he’s obviously a sprinter, given his speed... he’s supposed to be on toes. Sprinters are digging into the ground to get more speed. Which is what sonic is doing, so he goes faster. Also, the vaporfly isn’t famous for the heel cushion, it’s the carbon fiber plate in the midsole. Gives more spring in each step, uses less energy.
@@chelle2469 The 400m is a perfect example of an endurance sprint. You have to have good stamina to be able to run a quarter mile as fast as people do. Also, the 800m is very similar. In the end though, he is so fast the fatigue never really hits him, obviously shown by his expressions after running an insane distance. See, as someone who loves animals, it's always been strange to me that we're told to walk and run heel first. When animals (with similar legs, feet, and joints to our own.) walk or run, they do it "toes" first, with their "heels" in the air. It was just my simple observation as a child, and I always felt like we were being very unnatural because of it. To the point that, sometimes, I prefer to walk/jog like a dinosaur, because that feels smoother. My family always looks at me funny for it... Glad to learn that I was at least on the right track in my line of thinking. ^v^
I feel this so hard. I've never gotten along well with shoes -- especially heavy-duty, thick-soled ones (my feet are a funny shape, and I find arch support really uncomfortable), so I tend to wear thin-soled canvas shoes (or sometimes some cobbled-together moccasins, when I'm jogging). So naturally I was forced to learn a toe-first running form. (It's one of my small nit-picks with the animation of Tangled; this young lady is running around barefoot with an aggressive heel-first running form. I can practically feel my teeth rattle just watching her.)
Wait, you've been told to run on your heels? We were always taught not to. We were taught that we should walk with heels first but run on the front of our foot, by all of our gymteachers, as well as the People who fixed special soles for my shoes
Right? And if we think about this as a constant sprint, which is way more plausible, then you can hardly argue with all of the world's top sprinters who toe strike because their running shoes literally only have spikes in the front to give them better grip when they propel themselves forward.
Schuyler Wood most sprinters are taught to run on their toes with strong knee drive. after running track for years my feet show the wear and tear towards the front. him thinking this is a marathon when biomechanics say it’s a sprint idk what to tell him
I love how marathon runners were considered but why not sprinters. Sprinters dont herl run, they all toe run for the power and speed, something sonic has plenty of.
Just a runner here! I'd like to note something that I think you missed. You only covered distance running! To someone who doesn't run, that might not sound big, but the difference in how you run is huge. As a distance runner (I'm qualifying distance as at least a 5k) heelstriking conserves energy, which is what you want. But if you're sprinting toestriking is the faster way to run.
@@Princesswagger21 your achilles tendon is more efficient at releasing energy from the step before when you strike your heel which allows you to spend less energy running long distance, when you are sprinting though it's efficiency is over taken by being able to push off the ground faster when you run on your toes.
So sonic isn’t really running a marathon though. He literally gains as he runs. Sprinters run with the toes because they are still trying to speed up. If you’re running with your heels, you are at your comfort level. You are cruising. Sonic is constantly sprinting.
As a runner for five years, heel striking is a very unnatural way to run due to how awkward the jolt is, and it has been proven as the number one source for all runners injuries. That being said, the idea that heel striking is for "cruising" and forefoot striking as "sprinting" is, in my opinion, incorrect, because that I've never switched between the two styles of running before in my experience, ever, because of a slight change of pace. Nor have I been told to by my various coaches, from a high school to a collegiate level. Nor have I read or heard anything about shoes making a difference in the races - they actually aren't. The world-record holder for the marathon doesn't train with shoes - they actually are given to him a day or two before the race (or even just before) and told to wear them. Shoes have no interference with the ability of top-level competitive runners, it's just a matter of pushing yourself mentally (running really is 80% mental and 20% physical). (If you want reference, theres a book called "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall if you want to know more about running) In addition to this, MatPat has to use the marathon because Sonic runs so fast and so far. Otherwise, if Sonic weren't to run so far, he'd be using examples like the jaguar or the jackrabbit.
Simon Hatcher to be far he is constantly speeding up i agree PrettyMuchEverything where in a sprint you should run with the toe cuz thats how u speed up just look 100m sprints and Sonic pretty much run fast the distance he travel is just relative to his speed which is just really fast
Simon Hatcher in actuality a sprinter doesn’t really run with their toes the run with the area right before that the toes are usually pointed up the entire race and they use the dorsiflexion to propel forward if you watch sprinters like Usain Bolt in mid race and slow down the clip you will see him striking the ground with area directly behind the toe and also track shoes made for sprinting are completely different from marathon type shoes firstly they are usually lighter even though marathon type shoes are light track shoes are made lighter for sprints. Secondly underneath the shoes there’s spikes but the spikes are located not over the surface of the entire bottom shoe but the toe to midsole type of area because it’s built to maximize the way runners run because they run with dorsiflexion so by locating the spikes there it gives much more grip on the track enabling them to run as fast as possible but a down size to spikes is that they wear out faster than regular running shoes and require more maintenance so running the speed that sonic has been is running I think it would be more of a sprint but the distances he is running wouldn’t work well with a spikes so he is running like a sprinter but with marathon shoes for the distance.
At the beggining of the video, I was like: Oh my God, I am running wrong. My whole life I have had holes on the same place Sonic has! I felt normal with those Holes on the movie!! At the end of the video I was like: Oh! I Actually Run healthier and my Spine thanks me.
As someone who did long distance running in high school, Forefoot strike is just the best was to run in general. Unless your talking about with the aid of the experimental Nike shoe then probably, I wouldn’t know.
Funnily enough the slow motion bar scene also has him alternating between forefoot striking and heel striking, though I guess more heel striking since he now has a traditional pair of running shoes
When you run you never want to heel strike because that can cause injury. Every person that runs longer distances has a midfoot strike and then rolls to the front of the foot to push off of. So heel sticking even in the nike vaprofly shoes is still bad for you and can cause injury.
But they have to build shoes this way because casual people walk while hitting the ground so fucking hard with their heel they need this kind of shoes just for walking. Now try and make them run in "barefoot" shoes and they completely destroy their knees. I worked in a sport shop for a couple of years and people have such terrible walking habits...

MatPat: "Every time I've worn through a pair of shoes I've worn through the heel."
Me, who always gets holes on the toes of my shoes: "......what?"
The cushion runs (ha) out first on the heel. I think the toe holes you are talking about comes when the bottom of the shoe starts to peel away from the main part (sorry I don't know shoe anatomy), which I have had happen a few times.
And I always wear out the top of my shoes first or the glue holding the sole to the cloth.

MatPat literally says that sonic toe runs
@@Beepboop-uw4cg true true, i mean he does take information from Vox, soo.. idk
I’m more concerned that you think sonic is “marathon running.” He’s constantly at a full sprint, with his shoulders leaned in front of his toes upon footfall. Meaning he’s “digging in” and pushing off with his toes.
That's what I was thinking. It's also the same reason why the running shoes professional sprinters wear only have spikes in the front of the sole.
EXACTLY THANK YOU
I was coming down here to say just that exact same thing. He has more in common with a sprinter then a marathon runner, cause he's gotta go fast.
Also in all of the games he’s heel running when at slower speeds but when he starts going faster he toe runs. So Sonic DOES know what he’s doing
For long distances, run on heel, for sprinting speeds, toes. Matpat did a poor job explaining this or actually doesn't know that marathon and distance runners do not represent all runners like sprinters. Usain bolt ran his records without his heels ever touching the ground.
Science strategy, baby!!!
Yeees
For all who are interested: "Knowing better" just released a video talking about how heelstriking got the norm for jogging and how it is actually worse for you. So you might wanna check that out.
On another note Kipchoge is actually not using a heelstrike but a midfoot strike, which kinda invalidates an important part of Mattpats argument.
I was wondering who would mention the Knowing Better video, I don't think GT stole the idea, just one of those "what are the odds" sort of things
I noticed this too and got a little suspicious, but whether mat took inspiration or not doesn't really matter because he put his own spin on it
I also noticed this, nice that someone pointed out those things.
The knowing better videos conclusion would be that sonic is running correctly if I remember correctly?

Look at swimmers who had those full body suits back in 2008 (or whenever it was), they were absolutely smashing records.

Me, who was already a toe runner: HA! I'm not crazy!
Yeah, I run on my toes too, for exactly the same reason.
Exactly
It's why you see soccer midfielders switch back and forth in their stance because their role requires them to be running two to three times the distance as any other position.

i think if matpat did it for video game sonic, where his legs can turn into infinity symbols or a full circle, it would make more (and less) sense
So wait, my hypothesis in middle school that we should be running on our toes to smooth out the impacts and emulate how animals run was correct? Huh.
@@Erowens98 That sounds like flat-footing, which is extremely shocking to my body.
Relatable!
Follow-up theory: could Sonic's socks be worn out on the heel instead of the toes because his old shoes were too large for his feet? If that's the case, then it's easy to imagine his feet sliding inside the shoe and thus wearing out the sock in unusual places.

Matpat: Before we get into the meat of this I have a mini theory.

Flat pack theory.

@@doou_955 I was about to comment the same thing, great minds think alike lol
Thats not necessarily true. When runners are training, we always train with heel striking, and roll back to front to get as much explosiveness as possible. We only ever run on our toes for a finish kick in distance or the last 20m or so for sprints.
I remember watching an animation of one of his models in a game (I think it was his running animation in Sonic Unleashed) and he was sticking the floor with the front of his shoes.

K didnt read the who S.A but k
This is actually pretty good. More or less this would be the case for Sonic.
Always nice to see a fellow runner (sprints gang)
Also, as Mythbusters always used to say, "Gravity Doesn't Scale." Sonic is moving so fast gravity doesn't have time to start pulling him down between steps, so his shock-load is way less than a human sprinter or DR would be.

Eyes of the Cervino I can not run barefoot without running on my toes
Animals evolved to run like that cuz it helps consume less energy while running faster and longer distances
Wait, you've been told to run on your heels? We were always taught not to. We were taught that we should walk with heels first but run on the front of our foot, by all of our gymteachers, as well as the People who fixed special soles for my shoes
Man, cant wait until theres Song Theories and Book Theories
Why are we thinking of this as a marathon, and not as a Sprint the whole way if his whole shtick is about being the fastest?
Thank you. It drove me crazy how he never mentioned sprinting in this.
Right? And if we think about this as a constant sprint, which is way more plausible, then you can hardly argue with all of the world's top sprinters who toe strike because their running shoes literally only have spikes in the front to give them better grip when they propel themselves forward.
Yes exactly. Every sprinter I know is a forefoot striker. Sonic is a sprinter, not a marathon runner.
On god bruh i was mad he didn't mention spiriting
Schuyler Wood most sprinters are taught to run on their toes with strong knee drive. after running track for years my feet show the wear and tear towards the front. him thinking this is a marathon when biomechanics say it’s a sprint idk what to tell him
I love how marathon runners were considered but why not sprinters. Sprinters dont herl run, they all toe run for the power and speed, something sonic has plenty of.
Matpat: "sonic sucks at running!"

Yeah, originally he did. But now he also runs.
He always did both.

Thanks for not ruining this great movie for me matpat! I love your theories too,
Just a runner here!
Then sonic is running properly
Is there a reason why heel striking saves energy for long distance running? It's just really interesting and if you know why, I'd like to know!
@@Princesswagger21 your achilles tendon is more efficient at releasing energy from the step before when you strike your heel which allows you to spend less energy running long distance, when you are sprinting though it's efficiency is over taken by being able to push off the ground faster when you run on your toes.

Naruto run
@@johnbatista1877 well actually sonic did the sonic/naruto run first in Sonic CD
@@johnbatista1877 correction Tom the cat from tom and jerry did it first lol
(If you want reference, theres a book called "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall if you want to know more about running)
In addition to this, MatPat has to use the marathon because Sonic runs so fast and so far. Otherwise, if Sonic weren't to run so far, he'd be using examples like the jaguar or the jackrabbit.
watch the video
Not really. Midfoot is for cruising. Not heel.
At the beggining of the video, I was like:
Oh my God, I am running wrong. My whole life I have had holes on the same place Sonic has! I felt normal with those Holes on the movie!!

I worked in a sport shop for a couple of years and people have such terrible walking habits...
injury will happen any way you do it if you do it long enough, just depends where you want it, watch the video by Knowing Better
@@yaboirico5221 Not if you have good running technique.
I know; it's almost like spikes are used in cross country to promote toe strike.
As a runner who started out running on their heels for years. I can say that I have a lot of ankle problems so Sonic IS running the right way.
For track and olympics sprinters like Usain bolt run on toes, marathon and distance runners run on heels.
superfiver running with your heel should never be an option unless you’re trying to break some record but for us laymen running with the toe first will save your legs from future injury
