Great video, but the difference is not simply about stability. The Studio Drivers allow you to output a 10 bit signal to your display in creative apps such as Photoshop, whereas previously, that was not possible on consumer game ready cards.

Thanks for this information; I've found tangible benefits of Studio drivers to be quite thin - coming from a programming background I know that Patch Note length doesn't necessarily mean that a LOT of progress isn't being made... the question is whether the progress has reached a point of real-world gains. In short if Studio = faster rendering / scrubbing/effects, I'd use it in a heartbeat. It looks like it doesn't. That said before I hit install on the new Game Ready drivers (new as of the past couple of days, last week in May 2020) - I'll search a little deeper ... hell I might even render a 1 video with a bunch of overlays and other media in Camtasia and see if one is quicker than other.

@@drmindriot Are you sure about that? I have always been able to set 10 bit color depth in the Nvidia Control panel if the monitor supports it with the game ready driver. You have two options in the Nvidia Control panel let the application decide or override and use the settings you decide its been like that for years at least in Windows.

I know this is an old post, but remember that you have to clear out all your old driver installs with UDD when updating your driver. Yes you can install the new driver, but when your system uses the "Fast Boot" option which most systems do, not only will you have the issues associated with the old stack of drivers, you will have issues with settings from the previous drivers.
Use UDD to clear out ALL the old trash, disable auto update in the UDD, and after you're done installing the new driver, go and disable "Fast Boot". Sure, your system might boot 3-5 seconds slower, but everything will run better.

Finally someone who is in my same situation. I have a laptop with a rtx 3050 8gb and I use Da Vinci Resolve for videoediting. But in these last week I'm also playing some games and... Studio drivers improved performance of Da Vinci, but also of gaming. I'm noticing that gaming with studio driver is better than gaming with game ready. For example... Some days ago I was playing STALKER shadow of Chernobyl, a 2007 game with game ready driver and the quality and resolution was pretty standard. When I switched on driver studio, the quality and resolution improved incredibly. And that's weird because game ready driver is supposed to work videogames at their best

Game Driver + Davinci Resolve + GPU accelerated Chrome on second screen = crashes, very odd glitches. Same setup with studio driver no issues. GTA5 is suffering biggest hit from Studio vs Gaming driver in my case. 10 FPS less on average.

First time installation of a Windows Mixed reality headset failed on Studio driver and what happened was Windows used it's own generic display driver instead which is not qualified for using such a headset so the operation failed time after time. It went fine only when I changed the driver to Game ready driver, so I can see the stability issue is a factor but obviously it is very rare. I wish I could keep on using the Studio Driver with less impact on CPU.

You didn't really say which you should choose as a gamer though. I practically never play brand new releases and only update my driver a few times a year.
I went to update my driver today and I saw the studio driver and the game ready driver are the same version and released on the same day. So then the question becomes: Given the same version number and release date, which would be better for a gamer?
If they released on the same day with the same version number, does the gameready driver contain the same amount of stability as the studio driver? I would imagine that they would update the gameready driver with the stability tweaks from the studio driver. If that's not the case then wouldn't it be better to install the studio driver, even if you're just gonna be gaming?

My PC is randomly freezing since I put a second monitor. Also, at the same time, I installed a graphics tablet, but I don't have to be using the tablet to have problems. It has never happened to me while I'm playing, only for when I'm not doing anything intesive. So I'm going to test if the drivers can fix this.

Thanks for the video. I have an exception concerning stability using Solidworks. At work we use Quadro P2000 wich crash from time to time due to issues with open GL or the Nvidia drivers. At home though I use a GTX 1070 and never encountered the same issue.

From my experience after the 517.40 update today the studio driver seems to work well for me noticed a difference in game the image is more clearer. And now I also get to run 1080p in war zone before I couldn’t. I would have to change it to 720

Looks like I'm switching to studio drivers. I have ben having issues with Affinity apps with flickering and stuff. Looks like I won't be losing performance.

If I don't do 3D art, should I even bother with the Studio Driver? I do 2D digital art + I also game, so I figure the Game Ready driver is probably the only one I need.
