Hi Ben, I noticed that on your example throws, you consistently overshot the basket by 75 feet. Being the pinnacle of physical fitness that you are, I have deduced that you are too strong for the sport. Here are my immediate recommendations: 1. DO NOT lift any more weights 2. Spend as much time as possible in complete bed rest 3. Change your diet and eat only potato chips If you closely follow these recommendations, I expect that in 4-6 weeks those upshots will be within circle 1 every time.
I appreciate you saying this, but can I possibly get you to write this in a doctor’s note fashion so I can give this to my doctor/family/friends? This is what I’ve been saying for years, but it would be great to have an unbiased 3rd party opinion.
Hi BEN, Gene here, this is the 3rd video that I have viewed, the first one hooked me to subscribe, could tell the way you convey stuff was concise and extremely straight forward, viewed the second one, it also confirmed my observation, and this third one has locked me into wanting more, so looking for more soon, keep the videos coming!!! 53 year old noob with a baseball background. Been playing a month. My backhand is pathetic and my forehand has been a wobbly mess. Switched to a one finger grip today, but followed everything else you instructed. Amazing results. Standing still, cocking my wrist and not throwing it like a baseball at all. With Leopard, Roadrunner and Destroyer getting no wobble and easily 200 feet plus. Going to keep practicing the "flick" before I move on to adding a real throwing motion to it. Best forehand video I've seen. Subbed.
I’m 52 and have been playing for almost 3 years now. I started learning forehand last year. I started out with approach shot 50’ to 150’ out. I would even flick a disc to the next tee box and at my bag learning a good technique and grip. I finally can hit gaps and throw 280’ consistently with it. So keep flicking. Hope you got some good gains in the past 5 months.
Good video. Sitting here watching it and realize these courses look really familiar then seen the bomb discs shirt then realize wait a minute….it’s cause I’m in the same area and play these courses all the time 😂
Dude thank you! I've watched just about every forehand clinic and how-to that I can find, but yours is the first where it really clicked and I understood where I was going wrong! Thank you!
The tip on grip pressure helped me out a lot immediately. Thank you for that. Really liking your channel. Any interest in doing an in the bag? I love a good in the bag vid.
That’s so awesome, I’m glad it helped your forehand game!! And absolutely, I’d love to sit down and do an in the bag, I love watching those as well. Thanks for the suggestion!!
I tried your way with index finger first then middle on top, like Paul McBeth, but if feels awkard and not as strong a grip for me. So back to the middle finger on rim then index on top of middle finger. Much better release and feel.
Interesting! I never considered to put it all the way down in the gap between the thumb and pointer fingers, I rest mine on the palm knuckle of the pointer finger. Your method may be the cure for my long but inconsistant forehand throws. Can't wait to try this out in.. 6... months.. when the snow melts.
I'm going to check out your videos. I blew my arm out 3 years ago and had to relearn the sport throwing forehand. Now I am trying to learn the sport again throwing backhand with the three-point pivot snap technique.
That sucks to hear that you blew out your arm, I know that’s really tough, but hopefully you’ll find some success throwing the backhand! Thanks so much for watching!
Man your channel deserves so many more views. Simple breakdown, yet plenty of detail! Forehand has become my go to throw. I’m up to 400 flat right now and I’m hoping this video will help me work on my form to get just a little bit further!
Great video came from ultimate and people ask me how to forehand I’m like I’ve done it for like 10 years I can’t break it down step by step but this video does
Great video! Thanks Ben, I will adjust my firmness of grip tomorrow and see how does it feel. Do need another video for how to put all the power on a forehand rip! Sometimes I feel that I have the power for 300 feet, but just somehow couldn’t put al that power on the shot! I wonder where did the power leak out.
That’s a great point, I’ve never really worked on adding distance to my forehand so I’ll have to learn up and hit the field. Thanks so much for watching!
I came from Tennis/Ball golf and my forehand is my best shot. It was also a surprise for me to see so many players struggling with forehands. I never though about tip #3 though. Gotta try that out. Might explain some of my "bad" shots lol.
Mids are tough because a lot of them I find are deeper rimmed, try something flatter and stiffer, that always helps me out. But thanks for watching, keep up the awesome instruction!!
I struggle with hooking up shots off of my middle finger. I only have this problem with putters and some mids, but not drivers. I have changed my grip further out from the webbing in between my thumb and pointer finger. Should I stick with my driver forehand grip? Thx
Usually when I hook shots off my finger it’s just because I’ve started that wrist snap too early ahead or parallel to my elbow. I would try practicing starting with that elbow just to make sure the disc is loaded onto the fingers, and I would only change that grip as a last resort. Thanks for watching!
@@BensBigDrive I had a few good throws, 100 ft, maybe 150 on one, but best of all they were on target. Except for the 10 throwers I had. I look forward to your next video.
Do you have a preference for rim depth when throwing FH? Which discs are easiest to start practicing, in your opinion? I seriously think your channel will explode really soon, keep up the great content. Cheers man
Thanks so much Mat, I really appreciate the support, and thanks for your interaction!! Also, I like throwing shallow rimmed discs (shallow from flight plate to bottom of the rim) for forehands and so do most players, because when you're setting up your grip and pinching between the thumb and the fingers, if the rim is too tall, your fingers or thumb will have to adjust to find a place where pinching the disc is possible, and that throws off your grip and your whole throw. That's why people forehand flat top discs as well, because it makes pinching the disc easier as opposed to pinching a domey disc. And I love forehanding the Mako3, it fits perfectly in my hand for the forehand and it's a very straight disc so it will show you truthfully what you're mechanics are doing without being so understable it'll just turn and burn. Thanks again!
@@BensBigDrive Former ultimate player who also loves the Mako 3. 175 ft ace with it recently. I think ultimate players go into disc golf used to prioritizing flat and straight. I see the value of shot shaping but you're introducing so many other variables into it that unless there's a reason not to I default to flat and straight. Mako3 style.
I would say that nose angle with a forehand has a lot to do with the relationship b/w your hand and elbow. Odds are, if you're having trouble getting the nose angle right, it's because your hand is either too far above or below your elbow relative to the ground. I would try starting from keeping your elbow and hand as level as possible to the ground, and see if that helps your nose angle problem. If it doesn't, then it's gotta be something with the way you're snapping it through, and if that's the case, try adjusting how much pressure you put on the disc. Thanks for watching!
I'm forehand-dominant, always have been. My way of balancing the weight of the disc is a bit different. I move my index finger toward the center of the disc, leaving only my middle finger on the edge. Sort of like a "peace sign". It keeps my release nice and smooth. I've heard that this technique can cost you distance, but I'm still getting 350-370 feet out of it on a max-power throw. I've tried the "stack" grip and it just feels funny to me and I do end up with weak, wobbly throws. Probably because I'm just not doing it right.
I disagree it's "elbow first" and I think seabass22 would agree. It's more sholder rotation but everything starts at the feet. Sure the elbow is there but making that joint the biggest part can be a potential injury concern when lots of force from the bigger part of the body starts getting involved. Check out seabass. When Eagle was showing his seabass put one out about the pitchers who throw like that predominantly have Tommy John's. It's too much torque on a distal joint repetitively. Get the foot down, swim move off hand to get the shoulders rotating a little the the elbow and wrist follow along. Firming up the grip is important. Of course for short ups heavy elbow shouldn't be a problem but it's pushing it with awkward standstills and power drives. It might be fine for that someone w/of a forehand but I don't think it would translate up safely. It's an augmented baseball throw.
That’s a great point mike, the elbow is definitely the most sensitive part of the arm and where the most injuries occur, and I agree that your power and accuracy comes from your feet/hips/shoulders. The main cause of wobble, or “OAT” (off axis torque), in a forehand, is the thrower not keeping their hand flat (at the same angle) through the throw. A big problem I see (and also do) is the wrist flipping over towards the end of the throw. You gotta keep your hand flat the whole way through the throw.
