This totally makes sense. I'm 20k into 500hp. Is it worth it?, hellz ya! Build that long block and get a good twin disc. The twin disc competition clutch has a feel of factory pedal btw.
Good to know, gling to have to seap down the line Nd when the tkme comes im grateful I can just swap over every bolt on, onto a buillt block and push for more 🔥
Regardless of your HP recipe quality parts cost big bank $$$$! Going with the Big Brand names are the logical approach to hopefully achieve maximum reliability. Now it is time to enjoy the fruits of your parts and DIY labour until such time as “the calling” to do more resurfaces. Let’s be honest mods are an itch that needs to be scratched!
The car looks really good and your right quality parts are the way to go. If I was going to do it to my WRX or STI I would only put the best that money could buy. Stay safe brother
Love seeing how much you have put into your car and I feel the same way about mine, its all about being happy with what you got! I'm building my engine over the next month or two to hold some power but once I get everything sorted she will be a beast!
Thank you for the mod list. I'll be writing every thing down and going with my own brands. You got a really nice setup. I'll start my own channel soon hopefully and try to grow as big as your channel. Keep up the good work.
Purchased a 2020 and the first hour having it instantly regretted it due to it being so small I had NO idea it would be so small I ended up swapping it for a Charger scat pack Daytona edition and don’t regret it one bit! The STI was fast and responsive for sure and in S# mode it was nice the amount of money having to put into this car to get it where I’d want it wasn’t terrible but just being so small inside killed me on comfort! It would have been cool if I was single and or younger but being older fatter and having kids to kart around it doesn’t make sense lol good videos man!
@@Smeedia yeah it’s amazing with a couple upgrades suspension exhaust meatier tires in rear and good ceramic tint and this car is a beast! And the indigo blue is absolutely amazing looking close to the WRB STI just not as bright more of a deep candy blue I’ll definitely keep watching your stuff though always good to learn some new stuff about cars!
I’m really interested on which products you did first to your car, I ask because I am also interested on how often you had to go a tuner. I’m planning on going just like your build and this video is gonna help very much!
Bro I'm new to the subie world. Just got a 18 wrx base. And have been watching your channel. What you have is what I want. Thanks so much for all the info.
Thank you for sharing - wow, had no idea it was that costly to do this - and just imagine if you had paid a shop to do most of it....18-20k. Plus you forgot the quiet/silent bills: chopped hood to replace if sold perhaps. Lost warranty. Additional wear and tear. Add perhaps 5-8k more. One thing you could do for the rest of us: do some serial oil evaluations to see what is happenign IN the engine.... Would be curious if those data and oil change habbits/brands would be informative. Have to keep mine stock. Have the Subaru gold 7y/100k bumper to bumper......so only doing cosmetic stuff and trying to only do OEM parts for those (JDM if you will sometimes). I predict in 3 years you will be on a built billet block, have 700hp, and will be even happier. Hopefully my subscription and others' will financially help you out.
Agreed that there's a lot more behind the scenes that adds up cost, and that videos actually coming this week! Just got my oil report back from black stone labs so looking forward to sharing that information with everyone! I could see it at 700 down the line, would be a monster 😅 appreciate the aupport and the kind words! 😁
Comments that aged well 😂 also to any new owners reading this: no matter how much you spend making your car fast, someone will be faster. You can have a ton of fun just doing cosmetic/suspension/exhaust mods, and you (probably) won’t blow your engine any time soon.
Congrats. Car parts! Now that you're built, for the most part.. There's always progression so it's never done lol. But maybe make more driving videos, possibly on a track setting personal best lap times to review your upgrades, especially since you don't have access to dyno after each new part/upgrade. PR in Kent has a road course.
Coming from a Subie Newbie, this is a great video. Honestly its a template to work off of. Like you said its all on how a person wants to build their car. I learned the hard way years ago, you can go fast cheap for a couple weeks. Or you can spend the money and build it right. And keep going fast for years. Cant wait to see some test runs with the new map.
Welcome to the subaru world! And glad the video was helpful and insightful. Feel free to reach out with any questions 😁 I too have made the mistakes of gling with fast and cheap, never ends well 😅
BACK IN 1993 PUT $10.000 IN TO MY 1992 ACURA INTEGRA GSR THAT WAS EVERYTHING AND ONE THING I DONT THINK YOU DID WAS A $1000 CENTER FORCE CLUTCH THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE DEALER INSTALL ABOUT $600 A NICE RACE CLUTCH MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
Back in 1993 I was born! Lol on this build I left the stock clutch, my current 05 STI HAS An ACT HDSS and my 17 STI Has an ACT twin disk. Both very good options for those looking
great work with the channel as always random question but have you ever had trouble with a shop changing tires on aftermarket wheels with no tpms. i just ordered my first set and plan to use the summer tires i currently have on the stock rims with tpms on them. do you think ill have an issue with them swapping the tires over to the new rims without tpms?
Scooby freak 86 did almost exactly what you did and said almost exactly what you said in this videos, (Not pawer, But, RE-LIA-BI-LI-TY) i think the amount spent is perfect, hight quality parts on a stock block and 400hp its perfect. Now, if you want 600 to 1000hp then you gonna have to built the damn thing and not by a random garage, you need experts and professionals wich means its not gonna be cheap either. Btw if you don’t know scooby freak 86 check him out he’s Subaru is as perfect as yours man. Who knows maybe a colab a “Wash and talk” video that would be killer. Overall you made the best decision for your car my friend, beautiful, Reliable, Good quality parts and it can defends it self in the streets i mean 400hp it can move. Good luck on everything else blessings.
I know Chris, super chill dude. Now I'm in that boat of shooting for 600WHP but it definitely can be done in ways to save some $$$ building my short block in a garage. At the time it was a good set up on the way 🔥
Another amazing buddy thanks for the info. Question, why does your intake box look different from the normal cobb air box? It looks amazing and is a triangle shape not a square shape or am I going nuts? Lol thanks in advance
Im about to go this route just to be able to drive my wrx. My motor is fucked and ive only put 200 miles on it since ownership. I owe 13700 so its more beneficial to me to build it instead of trading and having negative equity on something. Im thinking of going stage 2 block, turbo back exhaust, and a turbo. I calculated about 14k for everything ill need. Im not gonna start building until the car is paid off and i buy a house
@@Smeedia thanks man, it hurts even more because i was about to trade it for a 2012 durango rt. I have 2 kids so that wouldve been nice. Anyways man appreciate all the things your videos have been teaching me. Cant wait to see Blue live again!
I just spend 23k with prime motoring jn NJ for 500 plus but it’s cause I bought the IAG long block that holds 900 to the crank but I couldn’t be happier , soon ima go hit the 700 plus
Smeedia thanks man , for 700hp plus was 33k so I rather go with 500 n work my way up slowly but I love your channel , keep it up , I learn so much from you good luck on your build
i just picked up a wrx and would love to mod it sometime. im concered about what mods are safe with where i live. im in northern ontario and it can get pretty cold , minus 20 minimuim in winters. so i want to push some horsepower but do it safely. any tips would be wonderful. glad to be apart of the community :)
So a note to everyone and not to discount you but... all the sensors are just rebadged gm sensors... that you can buy for real cheap from any auto parts store or the dealership. (Modulators not included)
Thanks for all the info. Great channel. I have a 16 sti limited. What would be the best way to support power? If a forged engine and pistons are better what is a good and reputable company?
IAG, Rev works, wolman performance and some other's for built blocks. I would look up the video for reduxing engine knock that I uploaded and would suggest all those 🔥
Subarus are not the cheapest to make power with but I knew that going into the build 😅 my buddy Matt has a 700WHP SRT and spent a fraction of the cost on that thing. Fun car though!
Hey man, I have a 2018 sti about to get tuned next week. What do you think I can make on a stock block? I do wanna get 400 wheel next dyno day. I have a downpipe catless and headers and intake and a whole flex fuel system with 1050s injectors. Only thing I didn’t get was fuel rails thanks
So if you're getting a CATTED downpipe, do you still need the up pipe and external wastegate? My goal is to achieve 350 whp extremely reliably because the 2021 STi is my daily. Do you also know if I MUST upgrade my fuel injectors, lines, and fuel pump for that? Or can I reach 350 whp reliably with the stock ones?
Hey with everything you got your is running reliable right? So how long do you think that stock block of yours will last? Cuz I wanna get all the same parts that you got for my 2019 STI…and my STI right now has 18.600 miles on it..
This engine was pulled for an engine swap. But my 05 STi makes 460WHP in pump gas with a stock short block and it's been loving the power, no issues 🙏🙏🙏
Really hoping it lasts longer than a month or whatever the time frame u were saying. Especially while turboing the BRZ. It's a quality build. I wish there was somebody building the FA20 and as knowledgeable as u are. I'm doing ALOT of research but feel like I'm pioneering.
When I first saw this video I was like, “damn that’s a lot of money.” But now that I’m in the market for a 2017 sti I’m like, “sounds about right for reliability.”
@@Smeedia gotta do what you gotta do to make yourself enjoy it and feel like it isn’t going to blow up at any moment. So I think it’s money well spent, looking forward to where you take the build with the new motor.
I make about 360whp on my fa20. All I have is a flex fuel kit and catless down pipe. I do have supporting mods but it’s simple things like ebcs, intake, fuel pump and so on
Nice build, you and I have a lot of the same parts minus the flex fuel system. I'm running an IAG closed deck long block with BC 272 cams and a Blouch 20GXT-R (8cm housing) tuned on 92 pump. What are your long-term power goals?
Solid build that you've got! How much power are you making? 🔥 Once the short block lets go swapping in an IAG closed deck block (I belive it was their stage 4 capable of 700WHP), machine and build the Heads, swap the turbo to the XR Zero, change injectors and fuel pump Nd shoot for 600WHP with the car. Initial goal was to push ghr stock block as far as possible so still in that phase. But shooting for more once this block dies.
@@Smeedia The car is conservatively tuned to 374 whp on Pacific Import Auto's Mustang Dyno. I'm running 20 psi and it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to go to E85 because of where I live. If I did eventually decide to do a flex fuel setup and speed density I'd probably be in the 420 - 440 whp range without pushing my build.
@@Smeedia The tune was straight forward, no issues at all. I decided to stay with the turbo in the stock location when I did the FMIC so the turbo lag isn't bad. I could daily drive it if I wanted to but now it's more of a weekend\maybe occasional track toy.
Fender flares, seats, going to do a half cage and also want to wrap the car. Soon I would like to remove the OEM fuel tank and run a tank in the trunk with a duel pump set up and custom lines to start prepping for the rotated ser up 😅 also turbo charging thr BRZ in the next few weeks 🔥
He did not prefer any, he used his laptop to mknoer everything with the car. I generally have Knock. fkl, DAM, Ethanol Final, Injector Duty Cycle and coolant temp up
Man I wanna see u do this to a honda civic type r! Lol I always loved subaru wrxs... I had one ND I guess bc of it being a bad one right away it has kept me away from them so I got a type r now I was between the sti or this ND went with this bc nobody here where I live has one.. everyone here has a wrx lol I like to b the different one! Lol love ur videos man
Good choice, for 400whp on a type R, flex fuel, downpipe, front pipe, intake, inlet, Hondata, FMIC and that’s pretty much it, you can also run a meth kit instead of flex fuel and you’ll get in that 400whp range
I was wondering if you could have bought a different turbo like a twin scroll for example to get less lag or better low end hp/tq Sorry if its a dumb question, i am not a mecanic, i would have paid to install all your parts XD
How does the rest of components ie trans, axles, differentials and such handle the increase HP are there other mods done … looking at getting a sti in the new year and upgrading
Hey, I had a couple questions that you might be able to help me with. I am really sitting on the cusp of going full bolt on, cobb stage 3 on a 2019 STI, currently bone stock. But I am hesitant to progress because I am not sure if I should get a IAG block and forged pistons with rods, additionally I have heard that the newer STI's have a more robust internal factory design. You mentioned a video or two back that there is a "safe range" for power on a stock block. Could you elaborate a bit more about that safe range? Also I would really like to hear your opinion and others thoughts on the subject as well. I apologize if I you had mentioned this before.
No worries! So the 19+ have the type RA Short block and are capable of handling more power, not a significant amount more but I've seen a decent amount hanging out stroud the 400WHP range. For my year I have the older short block and about 350WHp is where the car is consider safe for the pistons before they let go. What is your power goal for the car? If it is around 400WHP IMO you will be good with the RA block that you have. Anything past that I would suggest an IAG block and building the heads
@@Smeedia Appreciate the response, I am thinking I will shoot for about 330 wheel horse power for now, and with COBBs ethanol set up, that your video convinced me to consider, that may be within the realm of possibility. The road block I run into a lot is not finding sufficient data. i.e. what component will be my next most limiting item. I believe the next would be the turbo then block and internals but past that...? Say you go IAG stage 2.5 or better, that being the closed deck, do you now need to consider a water pump with higher mass flow rate? I think I may be getting into a situation that could be a bit more niche. I figure a tuner can help with this information, but knowing before asking would really help with sifting through the not so great people.
Your stock block will easily handle 330 WHP, i wouldent worry about swapping it out. Once you start pulling short blocks there's a lot of things that go through your mind like while the engine out I might as well replace this part snd that part when it's not needed. If anything get the car to 330WHP enjoy it for a while and if you want more later then you can use the parts you already have 🔥
Dude! I bit the big one and bought a process west fmic kit for my STI!! I wanted you ask what you think of my plan. I'm installing a IAG AOS, CSF 2 Row radiator, futo oil drain, and now the FMIC.. I also got a regular impreza hood, going for a scoopless sleeper look. Is it worth protuning with the stock DP? I'm in CA... I do have access to the best tuners here, so that's what the plan is.. whattya think?
What are the essential mods I need to build a reliable fast 2020 wrx? I was thinking 400hp, but don’t know which mods I need for sure, and which are not necessary.
@@Smeedia hmm well I plan on building my car overtime in steps until I can go rotated. My first step is probably Stage 3+ running ELH, Grimmspeed downpipe, injectors, intake, and tune all with stock turbo. Should I hold off on FMIC until I go rotated and run stock TMIC in the meantime?
Smeedia yes I’m saving for the IBR upper and lower with my front mount AEM fuel pump and EBCS just waiting to do a big install before going E60 and pushing around 380 is where I want to be.
Nelson Horton yeah I’m stage 1 phatbotti tuned now, have a catted downpipe, tgv/egr deletes, charge pipe and intercooler in the garage waiting to go on. I wanna go e85 so bad but the closest station is like an hour away so it’s kinda pointless in my area. Thanks for getting back though guys
I’d make this video but then I’d be single... my girl still thinks my downpipe was only $75
How did you manage to do that did you pay cash lmao

Appreciate the support my friend! And that's a sid set up you've got going on, also let me know how you like the dom 3.5XTR! Seen a lot of people talk about it but no one actually use it 🔥😁
Smeedia I’ll be sure to let you know! I’ve read some good reviews of people who use it, a nice upgrade but still stock location! Take care my man!
Hafa adai che’lu 🇬🇺🤙🏻
jeremy hafa adai my chelu! 🤙🏾🇬🇺 You still on island or stateside?
Collin Leon Guerrero stateside brother, born and raised but my mom is from dededo. Family name is Benavente 🤙🏼 always repping the 671 🇬🇺
I love the way you put links to the parts in the description! Going to be hella useful later on!
Feel free to use them as you need them! Hope that they help 😁
Oh yes! And the calling 🤣🤣🤣🤣 after the BRZ Turbo Build may need to swing back through the STI a little more 😉
The car looks really good and your right quality parts are the way to go. If I was going to do it to my WRX or STI I would only put the best that money could buy. Stay safe brother
❤❤❤
Great job! I had a shop install my parts on my 16 STi and am jealous you did it yourself...
You can always install any new parts that you get later down the road! 😁
Really enjoyed the build. Now it’s time to have fun. That’s what it is all about.
Exactly! Still have more that I want to do to the STI. But definitely gling to be enjoying it in its current form 😍
I just came across ur channel and damn ! No way I haven’t been a subscriber ! U litteraly are amazing !
Thank you, appreciate the support! Feel free to reaxh out if you ever have any questions 😁😁
Love seeing how much you have put into your car and I feel the same way about mine, its all about being happy with what you got! I'm building my engine over the next month or two to hold some power but once I get everything sorted she will be a beast!
Yessss! What power goal are you shooting for? And its all about the journey!
@@Smeedia I'm shooting for 500-550 when i'm all said and done! But that will be in a year or two when I get a bigger turbo and fuel system lol
Thank you for the mod list. I'll be writing every thing down and going with my own brands. You got a really nice setup. I'll start my own channel soon hopefully and try to grow as big as your channel. Keep up the good work.
When you start it let me know! Qould love to watch some! 😁😁
@@Smeedia for sure🤙
Purchased a 2020 and the first hour having it instantly regretted it due to it being so small I had NO idea it would be so small I ended up swapping it for a Charger scat pack Daytona edition and don’t regret it one bit! The STI was fast and responsive for sure and in S# mode it was nice the amount of money having to put into this car to get it where I’d want it wasn’t terrible but just being so small inside killed me on comfort! It would have been cool if I was single and or younger but being older fatter and having kids to kart around it doesn’t make sense lol good videos man!
Thank you and the charger is a solid pick! However you been liking it so far?!
I started with intake, downpipe, FMIC, injectors, Fuel Pump, FPR, boost controller then did thr next series of mods from the past few weeks 😁
Respect the build 🤙🏾
Thank you! 😁
Bro I'm new to the subie world. Just got a 18 wrx base. And have been watching your channel. What you have is what I want. Thanks so much for all the info.
Appreciate the support and congrats on the car! 😁
Thanks. Got a 2003 wrx wagon that I’m anxious to modify.
Yessss! Love me some bug eyes!
Me listening to this video and comparing prices in 2022...fml
Thise prices be 📈📈📈
Congrats. Car parts! Now that you're built, for the most part.. There's always progression so it's never done lol. But maybe make more driving videos, possibly on a track setting personal best lap times to review your upgrades, especially since you don't have access to dyno after each new part/upgrade. PR in Kent has a road course.
Need to get out there, some tracks are starting to open back up. Waiting for the ridge to open their gates to get out there!
Awesome build!! looking forward to you building a built block and heads 🚙 💨
Same! Its a fun project and already want to start building it 😍
400 on e85? I have a pretty similar setup and I'm at 417 on pump. Love the way your car look 🤘 keep up the good work.
Feel free to reach out with any questions 😁
I too have made the mistakes of gling with fast and cheap, never ends well 😅
BACK IN 1993 PUT $10.000 IN TO MY 1992 ACURA INTEGRA GSR THAT WAS EVERYTHING AND ONE THING I DONT THINK YOU DID WAS A $1000 CENTER FORCE CLUTCH THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE DEALER INSTALL ABOUT $600 A NICE RACE CLUTCH MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
Back in 1993 I was born! Lol on this build I left the stock clutch, my current 05 STI HAS An ACT HDSS and my 17 STI Has an ACT twin disk. Both very good options for those looking
Ouuuu!! Yeah it's taken me 7 years to get my car where it is. Certainly not cheap ....
But it's so much fun!
Agreed, not cheap but definitely fun 😍
great work with the channel as always
random question but have you ever had trouble with a shop changing tires on aftermarket wheels with no tpms. i just ordered my first set and plan to use the summer tires i currently have on the stock rims with tpms on them. do you think ill have an issue with them swapping the tires over to the new rims without tpms?
You should be good. I don't use TPMS because they don't fit on my wheels but if they clear it ahludlent be an issue 🔥
At the time it was a good set up on the way 🔥
reliable power = good ... Blown up car = bad.
Great series!
Thank you! And no one wants blown up 😅
@@Smeedia Facts
You really helped on questions/concerns about my wrx
Another amazing buddy thanks for the info. Question, why does your intake box look different from the normal cobb air box? It looks amazing and is a triangle shape not a square shape or am I going nuts? Lol thanks in advance
I cut the backside of the box off to be able to use it with my FMIC 😅 and thank you! 😁🔥
th-cam.com/video/ywJ8MAEeDAk/w-d-xo.html
Im about to go this route just to be able to drive my wrx. My motor is fucked and ive only put 200 miles on it since ownership. I owe 13700 so its more beneficial to me to build it instead of trading and having negative equity on something. Im thinking of going stage 2 block, turbo back exhaust, and a turbo. I calculated about 14k for everything ill need. Im not gonna start building until the car is paid off and i buy a house
Nit a bad move, hopefully all happens soon. Sorry to hear about the bad luck with it as well 😭
@@Smeedia thanks man, it hurts even more because i was about to trade it for a 2012 durango rt.
Prime motoring is one of the best out there! You'll definitely have a solid build 🔥😁
Smeedia thanks man , for 700hp plus was 33k so I rather go with 500 n work my way up slowly but I love your channel , keep it up , I learn so much from you good luck on your build
Do u plan on taking the sti or the 86 on the track eventually?
Once they open back up yes 🔥
Same thing I did expect I ran a stock turbo with e85, just bought a block cause I wanna run a dom 3.5
Follow up with how much power you make! I'm interested to hear 😁
You just earned my subscription
Appreciate the support my man 🙏🙏🙏
i just picked up a wrx and would love to mod it sometime. im concered about what mods are safe with where i live. im in northern ontario and it can get pretty cold , minus 20 minimuim in winters. so i want to push some horsepower but do it safely. any tips would be wonderful. glad to be apart of the community :)
Nice build, I'm kind of a brand snob myself so I understand lol
Thank you, and many ways to build, just stick with certain ones 😅
Fast, cheap, and reliable………you can only choose 2
The triangle of doom
for the ets fmic, did you get the stock bov flange? and how did you get the one with iat bung?
Yes I did, they all should come with that bung 🧐
@@Smeedia thanks man!!
With the headers do u suggest elh? Or could u make all this happen with a nice aftermarket uel ?
So a note to everyone and not to discount you but... all the sensors are just rebadged gm sensors... that you can buy for real cheap from any auto parts store or the dealership. (Modulators not included)
Agreed! If you look closely at the sensors you can see different branding a lot of them
Thanks for all the info. Great channel. I have a 16 sti limited. What would be the best way to support power? If a forged engine and pistons are better what is a good and reputable company?
IAG, Rev works, wolman performance and some other's for built blocks. I would look up the video for reduxing engine knock that I uploaded and would suggest all those 🔥
It’s the reality aftermarket car mods are a massive rip off in cost but we are addicted to the end result, so we stump up the cash.
You are not wrong my friend
Jeez you spent $10k more than I spent on my SRT, or my SRT swapped wagon. It’s a good looking build but damn that just gave me some perspective.
Subarus are not the cheapest to make power with but I knew that going into the build 😅 my buddy Matt has a 700WHP SRT and spent a fraction of the cost on that thing. Fun car though!
Love your channel! Very informative!
Thank you! Trying to be as open and honest with everyone about the build 😁
I thought about going E85 on my STI but its a decent drive from home sadly
Just go Flex Fuel and use regular gas for traveling and fill it up with corn on the weekends! 🤷🏽♂️
Thats what I am doing, making 1 or 2 trips a month for E85 then splitting it and running half a tank of E with pump gas 😁
What made you go with 3mm spacers instead of 8 or more?
Did not need the height bump from the 8mm so went with the 3mm 😁
One of the best subie channels on YT. Definitely need more subs and can’t wait for the giveaway!
Scott Beauchene yeah he posted on his IG
15K sub giveaway! Its on the IG will be posting more about it here soon 😁😁
It's crazy how much things have increased in price since 3 years ago.
bit the bullet and bought in one year ago. its amazing and will onyl get beter with time. if i blow the engine I get a stronger one.
You will need to do thr injectors, pump and FPR, you can stick with IWG on a catted downpipe. 🙏
Hey with everything you got your is running reliable right? So how long do you think that stock block of yours will last? Cuz I wanna get all the same parts that you got for my 2019 STI…and my STI right now has 18.600 miles on it..
This engine was pulled for an engine swap. But my 05 STi makes 460WHP in pump gas with a stock short block and it's been loving the power, no issues 🙏🙏🙏
i know these feels
We are not alone 🙏 lol
Really hoping it lasts longer than a month or whatever the time frame u were saying. Especially while turboing the BRZ. It's a quality build.
I wish there was somebody building the FA20 and as knowledgeable as u are. I'm doing ALOT of research but feel like I'm pioneering.
Check out Bader built...he's in the process of doing a FA build.
Technically we will be doing thr FA20 next month lol but Badder built had some very informative stuff on the FA going on!
hey again sir. is your uppipe stock? i cant seem to find a video of yours installing it. thanks!
I don't have a specific video on how to swap the up pipe but I've got it mixed into a handful of videos🙏
When I first saw this video I was like, “damn that’s a lot of money.” But now that I’m in the market for a 2017 sti I’m like, “sounds about right for reliability.”
Lol yessir, unfortunately they're not the cheapest platform to build 😖
@@Smeedia gotta do what you gotta do to make yourself enjoy it and feel like it isn’t going to blow up at any moment. So I think it’s money well spent, looking forward to where you take the build with the new motor.
I make about 360whp on my fa20. All I have is a flex fuel kit and catless down pipe. I do have supporting mods but it’s simple things like ebcs, intake, fuel pump and so on
The DI on those WRXs makes a world of difference 🔥 whats the end goal for the car? 😁
Once the short block lets go swapping in an IAG closed deck block (I belive it was their stage 4 capable of 700WHP), machine and build the Heads, swap the turbo to the XR Zero, change injectors and fuel pump Nd shoot for 600WHP with the car.
Sounds like a solid build, how was the tuning processes at PIA? Have heard a lot of mixed reviews from there
@@Smeedia The tune was straight forward, no issues at all. I decided to stay with the turbo in the stock location when I did the FMIC so the turbo lag isn't bad. I could daily drive it if I wanted to but now it's more of a weekend\maybe occasional track toy.
Would I need a tune if I go with the Cobb BPV? Great content btw, new owner
No tune needed for that one and congrats on the new car 🙏🔥
@@Smeedia Thank you brother
Hey quick question If I wanted to install a muffler delete only would that hurt the car..btw I baby my car
Not at all
As stated, nope youll be just fine to do so 😁
how long did the mishimoto radiator last I hear mixed reviews on their products
Get a koyo, I've had so many issues with mishi products
Why’s I’m drooling
Nice numbers, great looking Subie!
Thank you! Definitely fun build 😍
@@Smeedia I bet! What's next for it, or do you plan to just enjoy the car for now?
Fender flares, seats, going to do a half cage and also want to wrap the car. Soon I would like to remove the OEM fuel tank and run a tank in the trunk with a duel pump set up and custom lines to start prepping for the rotated ser up 😅 also turbo charging thr BRZ in the next few weeks 🔥
We all love the money pit 😁
❤❤❤
wow i dont even own a sti but i found this entertaining.
Well I appreciate the support! 😁😁😁
Now that you've tuned your subie might I ask what parameters your tuner asked you to have on your datalogs?
He did not prefer any, he used his laptop to mknoer everything with the car. I generally have Knock. fkl, DAM, Ethanol Final, Injector Duty Cycle and coolant temp up
@@Smeedia thanks, I really appreciate you replying all the time
Anytime!
Lol love ur videos man
Can't say I've ever driven a type R before but always wanted to 🤔🔥
Good choice, for 400whp on a type R, flex fuel, downpipe, front pipe, intake, inlet, Hondata, FMIC and that’s pretty much it, you can also run a meth kit instead of flex fuel and you’ll get in that 400whp range
Could the FA motor not make more power equally as reliably with this much money spent?
It could. After the 400WHP mark it gets a little hard to make power but all depends on how deep your pockets are
Their friend has a supercharged BRZ man that thing is wicked quick
Cannot wait to get my BRZ up to par, such fun cars!
It is scary fast
Why would the small block go if it can handle the hp?? And if it does go how much more would you need to repair it or buy another block??
The safe range is around 350WHP for a stock block EJ257, if it does go a new short block is arkund 3500 or so
I was wondering if you could have bought a different turbo like a twin scroll for example to get less lag or better low end hp/tq
Sorry if its a dumb question, i am not a mecanic, i would have paid to install all your parts XD
No worries! And I don't really have any lag but a twin scroll set up would be beneficial as well and a lot of people do use them 😁
@smeedia how did the 400 whp work out on the stock block! did it blow up or hold its own?
Held up great! The clutch went out before anything else
Im probably gonna sound stupid for asking this, but what’s the power at the crank/engine if running 400whp?
If I had to guess I would say around 460-470ish
How does the rest of components ie trans, axles, differentials and such handle the increase HP are there other mods done … looking at getting a sti in the new year and upgrading
With the STI the drive train is a solid unit. Shouldent have any issues aside from the clutch
@@Smeedia Awesome thanks I learned from videos including yours need to upgrade clutch once get stages done…
I’d like to see a Dyno graph of turbo boost with the new turbo on pump petrol (gas)
Have all of that up on this video, all graphs are posted 😁
th-cam.com/video/pEjL7gomOZU/w-d-xo.html
How did you get the Cobb box to work with the ets intercooler piping?
😁😁😁 have an old video I made on it
th-cam.com/video/ywJ8MAEeDAk/w-d-xo.html
Is the 2019 oem short block or just pistons & rods significantly stronger than previous years?
The 2019+ had the Type RA short block with slightly better internals im using the older gen 257 with the original internals
Can i achieve a similar power on GV 2011? Similar build.
Yes 🙏
What are the essential mods I need to build a reliable fast 2020 wrx? I was thinking 400hp, but don’t know which mods I need for sure, and which are not necessary.
For reliability, EGR delete, AOS, radiator. The FA20s are pretty reliable engines
What are your thoughts on running the 4 in ETS FMIC over the 3.5 inch? Any downsides?
Honestly comes down to power goals, too big of a Core on a smaller turbo can have its draw backs. What set up are you looking into?
@@Smeedia hmm well I plan on building my car overtime in steps until I can go rotated. My first step is probably Stage 3+ running ELH, Grimmspeed downpipe, injectors, intake, and tune all with stock turbo. Should I hold off on FMIC until I go rotated and run stock TMIC in the meantime?
I really wanna see what you can do with that FA20 Im sitting around 330 on my wrx and loving it.
What mods do you have done and how much did you spend, Ive been stockpiling parts and need suggestions before I tune
@@joeylehtomaki9699 ETS intake, Cobb BPV, TurboXS catted j-pipe, Invidian N1 single Exit and then I am E30 tuned by ambot tuning.
EGR and TGV delete are some solid mods for thr FA20 that i would suggest 🙌
Smeedia yes I’m saving for the IBR upper and lower with my front mount AEM fuel pump and EBCS just waiting to do a big install before going E60 and pushing around 380 is where I want to be.
Nelson Horton yeah I’m stage 1 phatbotti tuned now, have a catted downpipe, tgv/egr deletes, charge pipe and intercooler in the garage waiting to go on. I wanna go e85 so bad but the closest station is like an hour away so it’s kinda pointless in my area. Thanks for getting back though guys
Good on you bro!!!
Thank you! Very happg with the build thus far 🔥😁
