I was listening to Johnny Cash before I could talk or even raise my head off a pillow. Thanks Dad, bringing me up right AND giving me a love of such wonderful, fun, true, heartwarming and heartbreaking tunes. A gift I can never repay. I miss Johnny damn near as much as I miss my dad.
I only worked with Johnny one time at the Carolina Country jamboree in Myrtle Beach, SC. I didn't work directly with Johnny but their crew was excellent. On another occasion in Bowling Green, Kentucky I was out doing sound with a three hit wonder named Starbuck and was having buffet breakfast at out Holiday Inn. Someone behind me asked, "May I join you?" I said yes without looking and Willie Nelson sat down. I knew Willie had played the county fair last night when we played the college but he was so down to earth and we talked more about concert tour catering and bus drivers than anything else.WHAT A CLASS ACT.

My son, and I worked a concession stand at a Willie Nelson Concert. We were hoping to see him on Stage, but we didn’t get to. He played at 9pm, and my son had to work early the next morning so we had to leave since we also lived a 1&1/2 away. We were so bummed, but we did purchase some T-Shirts, and Hats! Willie is a Legend, and I remember listening to him at Circle-T Restaurant I believe it was called on the scroll jukeboxes that were at every table. ✌🏻to Willie!!!!

He was really quite a cut-up too, pulling pranks and teasing. One night on the Johnny Cash television show, which was on the air about the time John Carter Cash was just a toddler, about 1969 or 70, he let loose with four or five in a row. I don’t remember exactly who he imitated, but they were all really famous like George Jones, Conway Twitty, etc., and yes, he did a spot on Johnny Cash, who loved it, although he had probably seen it before because Merle sometimes would be on the same road show.with Cash, although that might have been after the TV show years, I kind of lose track. Anyway, Merle’s imitations were all dead on. Merle seemed pretty laid back and reserved as an older man, but he was really quite the clown in his younger years. This is the first time hearing this song and I love it. When Merle is singing he reminded me of the way Johnny sang especially Boy named Sue.
