    We have a 2017 Alltrack and 2015 Sportwagen TDI with manuals. We got the S models specifically to avoid the panoramic sunroof which lets in too much road noise. The purpose of our Alltrack isn't to go off roading but to get around in Colorado mountain snow and to drive on dirt roads. Its my wife's car and she has consistently averaged 29 mpg over 73k miles. The purpose of the Sportwagen is traveling. It averages 49 mpg around town, 55 mpg when doing 75 mph, and can go over 700 miles on its 13.5 gallon tank. It cost $200 in diesel for a 4000 mile summer vacation. Both cars are really pleasant on the highway.
    I have been driving VWs since 1972, these station wagons are probably VWs best, and its downhill from here. We are so happy that our VWs aren't loaded up with bad tech "driver assistance" features like adaptive cruise control. But there is a feature I despise. When you turn the temperature control all the way down it turns on the a/c and recirc even though you don't want that to happen and have to take your eyes off the road to turn them back off. Pure stupidity by VW.

    Bought an S last Sept. (scared of the pano leaks). I wish I could've got some of the upper trim features without the roof but whatever. The car in it's price point is so comfortable and quiet. Mpg def isn't the greatest especially in the city and with all the craziness in the world now I can't take any trips but I plan on doing a solid 800-1500 mile trip as soon as I can. Jealous of your AZ and NM trips. But def appreciate your Alltrack coverage! Keep it up!

    I bought an SE 2019 with lighting package and beautiful canyon rims with DSG. I loved manuals my whole life but with traffic now they are no longer worth it. I have been lucky no issues with pano sunroof after 8000 miles . I wanted the SEL for the fender but I am satisfied with the speakers without it and saved about 2 grand. It’s an excellent car and drives excellent and the interior is beautifully done and the brown leatherette looks really nice.

    Great review! Owning a 2018 MT Alltrack - here up in Canada we already got them a year earlier :)) It's a great car; the only things that bother me are the power, parking sensors (turn on quite often) and the size of the mirrors (could be 30% larger). Nevertheless, it's a fantastic car and I am happy to have one of the last MT Wagons on the road.

    Just picked up a black 2019 Alltrack SE 6-speed manual. I LOVE it. I had been going back and forth about that or a Subaru Impreza Sport 5door hatch with 5 speed manual. The downsides of that car were that it has way less features (although it admittedly is like $8k cheaper), one less gears, and uninspiring power. But the symmetrical all wheel drive in the Subaru is a way more robust AWD system, and the boxer engine is cool too. Ultimately, it was a hard choice, but I like the one I made. Plus, the COVID-19 pandemic specials were too good to pass up.

    I'm playing the back and forth game with a dealership on a new 19 SE manual. I'm hoping they play ball on the deal I want. I'm not driving 200 miles away unless we have a done deal. If I do get this, it's getting the front end PPF and then I'm going to coat the car. After that I will get the APR+ stage 1 tune and I think it will keep me happy performance wise until the warranty is up. After that I'm going is38 turbo swap with the supporting mods.

    I test drove the automatic 2019 SEL. It is perfect for me and my fur daughter except for one thing: the steering column completely blocks my egress when the steering column and seat are adjusted to my preferences. For reference I'm 5'2".

    We are trying to decide if we want the SE with the assistance pack or the SEL. We will definitely be getting a 6 speed. Are the differences just the sport seats, power seats, dual zone climate, ACC, and navigation? How are the sport seats compared to the standard? My wife doesn't like sporty seats with aggressive bolsters. Also, my wife is much smaller than me, so while we don't care too much for the power seats, memory seats would be huge! And how is the ACC with the manual? It is not offered very often, and I was surprised it was available here. We could care less about the dual zone and navigation too. If the seats are memory and comfortable, and the ACC works well, we will consider upgrading to the SEL. Unfortunately they cost more money and are rarer to find now, which means traveling further, and less color options.

    I was beginning to think i was the only one with this spec Alltrack! Bought mine new in 2019, Night Blue, saddle brown interior, SEL, Manual. Your looks black, but that's about the only diff. Especially pops with the Thule roof basket - and adds a lot of practicality. Next move is maybe a tow hitch ...which they come with from factory in Europe grrrr. Enjoy!

    • @EnglishLevy
      @EnglishLevy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I drive mostly long distance on Interstate and a lot of secondary roads. I replaced original 205/55-17 tires with 245/45-17 (Cooper Zeon) tires. Now feels and drives much more like a Sportswagon. Lost a little mileage but good trade. Seems to ride better as well.

    • @thefadshow
      @thefadshow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that APR makes you go to an authorized installer. You can search on their website. Also unitronics and integrated engineering come with cable to do yourself. These are also reputable vw tuners. I am partial to apr just because they do an 87 octane tune. Not about paying for premium in a daily car.

    My '15 SE Sportwagen auto is really peppy and have gotten 39mpg on road trip.
    No desire to tune it.
    Cheers and you could create your own gti Alltrack or Alltrack golf R.
    VW could of sold alot of those in North America.

    Random shit you see in the middle of the road in Texas. Yep. That's how I got my first Yeti cooler. Dude in front of me lost it, I stopped grabbed it, waited 15 mins or so to see if he'd come back to get it, he didn't so now it's mine. God bless Texas! My Alltrack is too bad either. They'r a well put together machine. Very versatile. My only real complaint has been a leaky sun roof which has since been fixed. I also don't care for the lack of a tow rating. We all know it can handle a tear drop camper, jet ski or motorcyle trailer, maybe even a small bass boat just fine. All in all I love mine and hope to drive it until the wheels fall off.

    How is the adaptive cruise compared to automatics you’ve driven? I’m trying to decide between going manual and having 1 car or going automatic for highway and traffic driving and keeping my manual Subaru for when I want a fun drive. I was under the impression ACC wouldn’t really work in a manual so curious about your opinion. Very helpful video! Thanks!

    • @thefadshow
      @thefadshow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have limited experience in automatics but works just the same. This one doesn’t go all the way down to zero so I don’t think manual versus auto really matters. It will tell you to shift but you don’t have to and it will keep trying to adjust speed. Mostly just use it on straight highway anyways.

      I do love the car. It’s awesome having a manual with all the modern tech features. It’s amazing how far vw came in 20 years. It’s a much nicer better built car than the mk4. That being said I do like the connection with the driving sensation in the mk4 better. I paid 30 even and felt like it was a steal at the time 36k msrp.
