This is probably the first axe carving tutorial ive found that makes me believe i could give it a go, you break things down very well and make the process seem less intimidating I really appreciate the lesson and thank you for the great video!!

Man this is the best comment. So glad you find it useful. Its not intimidating if you have the know-how! This makes the effort of a video worthwhile. Thanks for commenting

Thank you for the vid! Will give it a go with my small camp-hatchet, love that you dont preach about "you need to buy this, this and this tool before you even start"!

Any time mate. You can spend $500 on axe or you can spend $150. It'll still cut! Just had to be a Carving specific axe, a standard hatchet will glance off and will be super dangerous. Glad you enjoyed it

Really appreciate this video. I will take so many tips into my next spoon billet carving 😊🙏I especially like how you cut the sides first. I also have had difficulty deciding how deep to cut the crank. Drawing on the side seemed to help but watching you - you seemed to cut about 1 cm deep- is that correct?
Thanks heaps for posting this 😊

Lovely video! What properties make wood more favourable for a beginner? (Apart from straight grain that is). I have some kiln-dried hardwood I saved from the fire. Lovely wood but it's super hard. Still worth using for a beginner project? Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. My advice, leave the hardwood for furniture. Get yourself some fresh cut green wood and carve away. Dried wood isn't super good for spoon carving with knives

For carving you're best using a sloyd knife. Its made spefic for carving. Pretty easy to get a hold of one!

It could be a ball too if I call it that. But nope, definitely a spoon once it was finished. Check out my Instagram page and you'll see
