    About #2: that’s why dock socks exist and you should DEFINITELY get one. It’s a sleeve that covers the inside of the dock so that your screen slides against soft safe cloth instead of the dock and dust and debris.
    Solid-color simple dock socks like mine are $5-$10. Dock socks with designs on them are around $15-$25. Dock socks are a life saver.

    #3 oled have a failure mode known as burn in, burn it is most commonly known from the cathode ray tube Era but is now returning with the oled Era, burn in happens when the phosfers have a image "burned" into them from outputting the same picture for a long time

      Actually a youtuber named Wolffden tested the OLED's screen for this and it's not a major problem for this console. I think he just has the OLED always on the same screen on a shelf or something and checks it occasionally

    • @antivire
      @antivire ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wulffden on TH-cam left his oled switch on displaying a single image for over a year straight now, and the burn in only started happening several months in, but it was very minute. Today, the burn in is pretty bad, but in some conditions it’s pretty ignorable. The conclusion is that there’s pretty much no way your oled switch can get burn in because:
      1. It’s not gonna be on 100% of the time
      2. Even if it was, the same image or UI elements aren’t gonna be displayed for that long
      3. Even if you’re a hardcore switch user that plays daily, by the time even the smallest amount of burn in happens, you’ll most likely already have either a revised switch, or a new switch 2 or switch pro.
      So basically, you don’t have to worry about it, you can use the oled switch as much as you like with no issue regarding burn in 👍

    The last one takes well over 3000 hours. But shut the console down so the boards don’t suffer heat damage, it’s not the screen you have to worry about. This has been proven several times here on YT.

    1. You would have to be an idiot to damage your Switch that way.
    2. Buy a screen protector and don't worry about it.
    3. Just turn your Switch off after use and it doesn't matter what the timer is set to.

    It’s not that the lifespan will drop, you’ll get something called screen retention which actually goes away after a while since it’s not actual “burn in” like with old plasma tvs. Also it preserves the battery.

    Don't forget Internet>internet settings>[Select your home wifi]>change settings>MTU> change to 1500
    This can help speed up downloads slightly. This works mostly only with home networks because proper work and public networks use that extra 100 MTU when your home network is too basic to need or use it.

    This all makes sense and I'm thankful you posted this, but I'm never going to bother with the OLED. I've had a regular switch for years before there was the old and I'm not going to bother with upgrading. It honestly isn't really much of an upgrade. I was really hoping that they would make this newer version of the switch have more internal storage but they didn't.

    For the dock I'd recommend getting a dock sock. You can pick them up pretty cheap and will protect your screen when you dock it. I have one with a Boo etched on the front.

  • @BosuDX
    @BosuDX ปีที่แล้ว

    The vent issue with the kick stand is very rare, I open OLED stand they way they dont recommend and have been doing so for over a year with no issues. The dock scratch issue can be solved with a $10 screen protector replaced yearly as long as you arent extremely rough with the console. The burn-in issue is a non issue. Wulff Den did an experiment with the OLED screen, and after keeping the screen on for literally 1000s of hours on the exact same image, only then did very bright portions of the screen start to burn in, and it still wasn't very noticeable. Go watch his video for details but basically as long as you don't leave you switch plugged in and on, on a stationary picture with bright images for hundreds of hours straight, you should be fine.

    I bought a dust cover for my switch as well as a screen protector that came with thin rubber strips that you stick on the inside of the dock which minimizes the risk of scratches. I also got the Skull & Co. GripCase which is a case for the Switch that protects it from the sides and from the back in case I ever dropped it on the floor
    My Switch will be good for years to come
