Full Build: Watch A '29 Ford Roadster Turn Into A Raunchy Rat Rod

  • Rat Rods are hot! So, Joe and Mike explore the lifestyle and go on a mission to find the perfect Rat Rod body for our "Raunchy Rat". First, they visit the annual Street Rod Nationals in search of a chassis for their '29 roadster Rat Rod body. Then, back at the shop they load it with suspension, brakes and a steering box. After that, they show you how to channel the body to make it ride right on the frame before building and installing a vintage Ford Flathead motor, supercharger and transmission as Raunchy Rat gets closer to completion.
Then Joe and Mike finish the brakes and clutch, also creating a floorboard with road signs, installing some off-the-wall seats and finishing touches. A rat rod is never finished, so it seems. However, Joe and Mike finally put the finishing touches on their '29 Ford before Mike takes it to a local car show to blow people's minds.

    Couple thoughts:
1: The title should be .. "How To Spend Way Too Much Building A Rat Rod"!
2: Finish the fab work before painting your chassis!
3: Shop for cheap used parts so that the finale cost won't be a LOT more than the finished product is worth!
4: Learn how to fab some Rat Rod parts .... especially a grill because that one sucks worse than anything ever sucked before.
5: That's not a 9 inch ... someone lied to you .... and you should know your rear ends before getting on TV and talking about them!
6: And last but most important: Watch Rat Rod Bob Builds before building your Rat Rod.

Atleast TRY clean it up and make it look good. It can still look rusty without actually BEING rusty.

And I’d put one of the Chrysler 3.6 Ltr., v6, twin ohc, 296 hp, just to be different, and a good engine that doesn’t start with “LS SOMETHING”. My Chrysler van will burn the rubber if punched with the v6. It’s also compact.

    • @brucereimer4604

@@garrettpolhamus3733 That's not my point at all. You can spend a million dollars building a rod. If you have the money, power to you!! The very foundation of the rat rod principle was born out of protest to everything that is done in this build because not everyone can afford all of these expensive parts and materials. So buy a new frame, suspension, steering, and drivetrain, just don't call it rat rod because it's an insult to the whole principle...get it? At the very least call it "How to build a mega dollar rat rod"...this video is very mis-leading and thus a huge disappontment to those who aren't just mindless viewers! Then again if you're pandering to idiots, who am I to stand in your way. BTW, I've built way nicer rides than this with way less money I'm not just some wannabe shooting his mouth off.

Top Tip: Save your money until you find something you like, then change it to suit your taste. It's a lot cheaper in the long run. I would definitely NOT run a flathead. They are prone to overheat and be underpowered. Even a blown flathead makes as much power as a stock sbc. I used a '64 283 for a fraction of the costs of their flathead. My trans was a Muncie M-21.

What is the flat-head I am seeing @19:42? That must be the elusive tri-power big block flat-head.

The Pistol Shifter just looks ridiculous. Like Trying way too hard . A cast Aluminum Skull would look awesome . And for the love of God that Air cleaner needs swapped out for a velocity stack. That flat round air cleaner looks so out of place. And that tractor grill just ruins it irregardless. Its hideous

I actually have to agree with the pistol shifter looking kinda ridiculous
I personally would've gone with the classic 8-ball shifter knob or something else along those lines

Paint the frame then cut and weld on it! You guys ever build a car before?
