      I agree no taco is real without corn tortillas but flour tortillas originated in northern Mexico. If you didn’t know that.

      @@stopmotionboy1085 Man, not only I am Mexican, but all of my life I've been here in Mexico, and I have had the opportunity to travel country wide so yes, of course I know flour tortillas (tortillas de harina) are from northern Mexico and yes, those are too very much used here in Mexico City and some other parts of the country. You can even go to traditional tortillerías here in CDMX and find some varieties of flour tortillas like with butter, with integral flour and some other options. I love to use dlour tortillas for quesadillas or sincronizadas, wich is a dish you make like a sandwich with the tortillas and in the middle you put on ham and cheese, you put that on a pan with butter and you have a sincronizada and you can eat it with your hands or with a knife and fork. Usually flour tortillas are used for certain type of tacos, generally with meat (carne asada), but yes, the normal here is to have a taco with corn tortillas. Cheers.

      @@nunyabznss5866 That's absolutely true, I had the same experience when I lived in England. Sometimes we do have that problem here as well, them falling apart, especially when there's lots of juices in the fillings, some places will give you two tortillas in a taco (it's called "with copy", as in photocopy). I don't know much about living in the US but I would imagine you can get some good tortillas in local mexican supermarkets. Maseca corn flour is a very popular brand here.

    One day i came up with a great idea. I went to the store and picked up a packet of taco seasoning. I took a picture of the ingredients list and put it back. Then i went to the spice aisle and bought cumin and chili and paprika etc. Everything in the ingredients list minus xanthan gum and sodium benzoate bs.
    No regrets.

    • @HeavyMetalMike
      @HeavyMetalMike 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's the way to do it. I actually like xanthan gum. It's basically a natural low carb thickener, it just takes all the meat drippings and makes them cling like a sauce. Not necessary tho.

    • @misterturkturkle
      @misterturkturkle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@HeavyMetalMike i prefer flour or corn starch for a thickener. Flour if theres butter or grease to bind to. Corn starch elsewise.
      But yeah i reccomend this trick for a lot of things. Did it with a box of zatarans red beans and rice yesterday. Put it back, bought short grain rice red beans bell peppers and onions. Already had all the spices. Gonna do it up in the insta pot tonight.

    Melbourne, Australia - named the world's food capital because of our cuisines. Well, Mexican and Sth America have always been lacking so our title is incorrect. In the '80s a mate introduced me to 'Mexican' food at a small franchise (5 stores) called Taco Bill's (not Bell). I instantly loved it. After many monthly feasts, I'd noticed their taco meat was different. I asked the waitress and she said they pressure cooked it. I borrowed an unused pressure cooker from my M.I.L. and went on experimentation. My mates and wive's loved me. Later I found Masa Harina for soft tortillas but in 25 KG packs. I bought it and loved it. I'd use an Indian naan press with the balls in b/w freezer bags (not foil :-) ), and after grilling keep them hot in silver foil.

    Tortillas can be made in that skillet without any oil for those who wanna avoid the grease. The corn dough wont stick if hou use a ziplock bag just cut it in a 10" circle no more corn flour need it as long as the masa is well hygrated and you'll know when it does not crack when you re doing the portions, always use lukewarn water and let it sit for at least 15 minutes so it raise then you are good to go..be gentle when you press the tortilla press. Amazon has great cast iron torilla press for less than 20 bucks but if you re near a Mexican deli you can always find it there. Other than that I think this gentleman nailed it and knows what he is talking about. 😁👍 cheers

      I use to work for a major department company in the shoe department. Mexican's shopped there often especially buying work boots. Anytime they said keep the box, that meant they were shipping these to family in Mexico. They package them smaller to save on shipping cost. They said work boots sold in America is much cheaper than sold in Mexico, to which I found surprising. And it was obvious who were illegal because the illegals would pay with $100 bills and always shopped the same day of the week.
      Many illegals worked at a fruit farm in the area and would keep hidden and rarely see them in public.
      American's etc never get these jobs due to the owner that produces majority of fruit sold in America. I forget that guy and company name but he has farms in many countries and basically only hires Mexicans. And yeah... The GOV knows. Trump knows and not arresting them. I support the Mexicans here in America be they legal or not.

    “Whole Oregano” used in Mexican cuisine is typically Mexican Oregano, which is different from the European/Middle Eastern varieties. They’re similar, but Mexican Oregano is a little more intense after an initial bite. It’s a must for pozole, menudo, caldo de res... lots of things. (Also really good for you when you’ve got a cold.)
