I'm not understanding how you dislike his videos. They're informative, enjoyable to watch, and just entertaining to watch. Some people must be jealous or just mad at the world. Anyhoo, congrats on finishing planting so early, one weight lifted. Keep up the good work.

A lot of channels I see can be controversial but I don't understand for the life of me why someone would dislike any of these videos. Are they disliking the quality? Maybe the content? Someone has a bot that just automatically dislikes the videos? Maybe a bot that just dislikes all video with similar content. I just don't understand how you get to this channel and regularly dislike it.

Friend sent me a pix of me sitting on a stack of 10 small bales May 17 last year...it was a warm day. Today it was 68 and we've had no real 80 degree days. Hay is ready but we've had 20" of rain in 10 weeks. Soggy fields, we are a week from getting any hay up in NW Ark

I asked the question about the speed of the two planters in the comment section.
One of your other watcher/farmers had a formula on how to tell acres per hour of planting.
His formula shows the new planter is 1/3 rd faster per acre. Even though it is less rows planted per pass.

Zach your a Hoot, you could really tell you were getting close to being done and yes that feeling of being done and it starts to rain is a Awesome feeling but there is always something to do on the farm, fix stuff as I never put anything away broke and service tractors as back in the days when I was farming we then had to cultivate and that was my favorite job as we had a guidance system on our cultivator and all you had to do is keep the wheels in the center between the rows. Love your videos Mr. Millennial farmer.

I heard "Starbuck". I forgot that it was on the west end of the lake. I remember a weatherman on 'CCO used to like to give the temperature in Starbuck before FM became a common thing. Farmers used to mount a transister radio on the tractor hood (no cabs back then) so they could listen to the Twins games on "The good neighbor of the north".

Derek, have you ever experienced frost this late in the year? I worked on a farm much further North in mid Canada in 1978. I never witnessed any frost until August, and I arrived there in April.

    • @adrianchetwynd1334

That Canadian farm had land situated just 20 miles North of the main farm, and all the crops there were killed off by the August frost. So they were swathed and bailed for cattle feed.

Zack, just a bit of mathematics (NOT the new math where you add 1 + 1 and get 5 and then subtract 3 because there were only 2 numbers you used -- or something like that) for you. You are planting 2/3 (two thirds) as much 2 times as fast; you will lose some time depending on how much backing and filling and twisting and turning you have to do at the end of each pass, so add in about 1/6 (one sixth) of of the time you are out planting. Granted, if you do say, two passes for end rows, you will make the "lost time" less by being able to do a 180 degree turn instead of backing and filling.)
Think of it this way - your field is 120 rows wide and 5 miles long. Using the 60 row planter at 5 mph, you will take 2 hours to do the two passes (dis regarding turnaround and what ever else needs to be done). Now, using the 40 row planter at 10 mph, you will do the first pass (40 rows) in 30 minutes, the second pass (40 + 40 for a total of 80 rows) in 30 minutes (Two thirds done now in half the time!) and the third pass in 30 minutes for a total of 120 rows in 1.5 hours -- essentially having gained 30 minutes for ever 10 miles you plant. So, why are you still complaining with sooooooooooooooooo much extra time on your hands???

It's safe to say things have changed since the 70's and early 1980's when we farmed/ranched in Utah. When the neighbor got air conditioning in his new John Deere, we thought it was soft. The whole computer thing would have been great. *balances an Atari on the steering wheel* Anyway, I'm curious about the corn, with the virus disruptions to the markets, if that affects what was planted, or how many acres. Ethanol use down, as well as feed lots thrown into confusion this year having that much of an effect or are you counting on a rebound?
