I currently play New Vegas. Admittedly I don’t play much now that I have no computer. But it’s still highly engaging and while outdated. The VATS system actually helps cover the shitty combat and weak animations of the vanilla game.
But man, is it fun just to build a character in the world. I find myself thinking a lot while playing. Thinking about how my interactions or actions will impact the world. I start making decisions based on my character instead of my own beliefs. Which I see, is a true sign of a quality RPG. Unlike skyrim, where I do whatever the fuck I want with no consequences.
Yeah everything feels like it has a weight to it and what amazes me is how deep some things go. Have you seen the video where they show the different responses you can get at character creation depending on how you allocate your SPECIAL points? Granted the responses only trigger if you have a stat at one extreme or the other, but it was little things like that that really made that game what it is.
Fun fact if you don't already know this, the VATS system was introduced in 3 because they knew the gun play was so bad that they had to do something to make it bearable.

keep in mind that Bethesda set Obsidian up to fail and basically gave them a year to do what they did in 3-4. They took the assets and shitty-outdated engine and made something far superior in a quarter of the time.
If the lore bending is this bad in Fallout 76, just imagine how worse it will be in the next Elder Scrolls...
They have Kirkbride as non-official(since Morriwind) lore/script writer, so they NEVER will fuck up TES lore, trust me, there is to much stuff that Mike wrote,all Bethesda staff must have autism to do real bad shit with it(with lore i mean).

Edit. In fact it's not even that. The overseer immediately decided that this is the new currency. Unless she met all the NPCs before they disappered. However, given we are meant to fill the dual role of npc and player, that means we are also the ones that surreptitiously introduced this new currency even before leaving the vault and somehow know it was going to be the new currency. This is Quantum Leap levels of time-fuckery. It literally is just there because "Fallout".

I actually really like him, it's the only way I've been able to deal with Fallout 4, sometimes he does stretch things but it's fun to speculate and it means I don't have to play that awful game myself. Also his voice is soothing af.

Bethesda's go-to game engine is what we call 'rustic', like a dilapidated farmhouse. Not without its charm but needs to be demolished to make way for a swanky three tier modernist, glass walled eco-home.

No it's not. The entire engine was remade before the release of Skyrim. The ONLY parts that remained were the cell loading system and the flat plane terrain generator. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news... but the Creation Engine isn't the only one that loads content that way.
The stupid rumor that it's "the same clunky old engine" stems from a blog post back in 2012 where someone checked the backend of the Creation Engine and found a few lines that referenced Gamebryo, which Bethesda clearly didn't care enough to change. A few defunct lines of code don't make an engine. An engine is the sum of its parts, and the parts have changed completely from "18+ years ago".

The engine IS dated, and it certainly isn't tooled for multiplayer.

You realize that Fallout 4 even used a completely new version of Havok physics to handle animation weighting which resulted in modders not even being able to redo reload animations until updated Havok tools were released months after launch, right?
Yes, the things that I said are the only holdovers within the engine are actual core methods of content generation that have existed for years within the engine. The fact that Bethesda is too lazy or unwilling to properly implement Havok physics with each new release is not evidence that the engine the same. It's evidence that Bethesda either doesn't understand, or doesn't care to learn how to properly implement Havok.

I understand maybe Havok is responsible for this, but the fact that they didn't think to even fix it for a multiplayer game is /holy shit/ because the only fix is to lock FPS unless they want to gut their engine's infrastructure. Which I'm sure their not willing to pay for.

Fallout is Obsidian's baby, something a lot of people forget or don't know. New vegas had it's share of problems but there is a reason that it's one of if not the most beloved game of the franchise. It was a labor of love, they had their baby back and they were gonna do right by her.

It's not like they'd have a hard time writing or designing anything with new factions or ideas or story with everything they do, but they can't be bothered to look at the Fallout wiki which has all that shit sorted and sited and say "okay, where are the holes in this stuff that we can fill in?" No, bulldoze over everything established and force a square block in a triangle hole, and break both things in the process. Power armor for instance. X-01 and T-60 are pre-war now. Why? Cause they were too lazy to include old abandoned Enclave bases, and T-60 was the New Shiney Toy, and the opening scene before the bombs had to have it to market the game. It could have just made sense to just make it new Brotherhood manufactured armor based on T-45 (it looks like it, they had more of that than T-60, it wasn't up to par, and they had Enclave resources now to manufacture). It's that easy. But yeah, money and cause it's cool? It just erodes the series's identity.
Not creating new factions is by far the most lazy shit ever, they just take previous factions regardless of the lore or plausibility and shoehorn them because people known them and we can't write shit even if our lives depend on that.

Bethesda took 4 years to create Fallout 3, now I'll give u the argument that they had to build a three dimensional world from the ground up, but even though it took 4 years the game is still a broken mess. Now take Obisdian granted their game is broken to high hell as well but they had to build a new wasteland from scratch, create a new storyline, write characters and form branching story arcs in an amount of time I didn't even know was possible. Bet no one can tell me how long it took them to do all that.
I started with Fallout 4 and loved it, then I played New Vegas, then Fallout 1. That was when my love for Bethesda turned into hate for fkn up this lovely series, 3 was ok tho. (sorry for my bad english I'm from germany). Btw. I love you Papa Gundam, you give us the news and show us the truth.

I’ve had the game crash (vanilla, no mods) crash 5 times in 3 days. As far as bugs I have 4 quest I can’t finish, I’ve seen npcs fly through the air, animals spawn inside buildings, falling through the map at least twice, I could go on and on with the bugs. Whoever does QA needs to be fired and/or just release a finished product. FO4 is the last Bethesda product I’ll be buying...

hubertET If I remember right, Cassidy from Fallout 2 will have random dialog where he mentions that the center of the country is plagued by severe radioactive twisters. And that's in the year 2241 now just think what they would be like in 2102 for a group to travel from California to West Virginia without vertibirds as they don't have the schematics for them until Fallout 2.
10:27 i dont undertsand what he means by early build. it is very clear that for most modern games an "early build" this close to release is pretty much just the full game with locked content (not locked by the devs persay with this game in particular as by the looks of things content is level gated), look at battlefield 5 perfect example of why the use of the word early build is wrong EA delayed that collosal pile of shit to try and rush as many changes as quickly as possible. bethesda just need to ditch the dinosaur engine and either work on a new engine or like you said in the video use another engine developed by another company.
Like how both of Destiny beta's where actually a demo to try out the early portions of the game.
Bethesda will continue to rewrite/retcon the Fallout series for brand recognition. "The Brotherhood is in Fallout 76, because it's Fallout lol"
I said this a lot, Fallout is just a name that will live on, but the identity and design philosophy it once had died after Obsidian finished development on the last New Vegas DLC in 2011.

I know this is late but that song that plays at the end when the Patreon supporters names go on screen is awesome. It’s so cool because I feel like it fits the whole vibe or your videos in an ironic sort of way which to me is always the best. Like when a horror movie has a friendly and peaceful or upbeat old school romantic song play while someone gets murdered. This is one of the problems with ongoing continuity's, there eventually going to contradict at some point the old star wars EU and the movies ran into this, and marvel also ran into this with how time works in their universe. This is why studious should plan this shit out and get a grasp of what takes place when and how it effects this.

1) FEV was created and experimentation carried out by govenment and had been being tested awhile before before bombs,so likelyhood of Gas being on East coast to be released and create supermutants when bombs is fell rather high.
2) While The Original Brotherhood of Steel was on the Westhad they also had the remains of Military communications at their disposal while they formed on West Coast, they may have been in contact to East Coast Army remnants who took on the name and values of the order even though they weren't part of that Founding Group
So while the LORE is from the view point of the Creators, and based On Game ON WEST COAST the Canon Changes are due to a the more in depth discoveries of what was happening on east coast Lore is KNOWN History , and that changes as more is discovered
Those textures are as bad, as the textures in skyrim on ps3.

I'm hoping to finally play a modded fallout 4 game on my pc, I need to figure out to do the script extender as a computer idiot.
If you plan to do that, make sure that Fallout 4 doesn't have auto-update enabled. The Creation Club updates break the game for some reason, making the script extender unusable.
Seriously? just install the SE and run the game trough the fo4se.exe PS: no mods fix the horrible story.

In defense of star wars, when Disney took over the star wars lore was a mess, a huge mess, they divided in canon and legends, i think it was the right move, but then... star wars the last jedi and han solo happens and all that nice lore disney was building, go to trash... But the books from the new canon still is great!
For bethesda, it remembers a nice guy who sell hot dogs in the street, was a very nice hog dog, so the guy become famous, open franchises etc... Now you don´t see it anymore in any store, and the hot dogs are now terrible, expensive and not good anymore, just like bethesda...
Couldn't agree more, many people won't admit that the star wars lore in the old EU was a mess, a fun mess non the less.
@Mega Megatron Play KOTOR 1&2, read the Revan novel, then play the Jedi Knight Story line and the revan expansion or watch a video on all 3. But you will see there are disconnects and gaps between all of these stories and many ways the later 2 destroy his character far worse then the TLJ did to luke imo.
If you go past episode 1 you can even say "ok... siths creates monsters using the force blablabla..." but when you go past episode 6, woww.... Looks like a bunch of kids start telling the story and someone wrote it, luke is married, have kids, han and leia have some kids too, some are bad others not, everyone can use the force, the empire come back some times, sith empire, sith of the one or something like that, my "favorite" is when a sith kidnap han kid and others and put everyone on a planet that have rockets and all light sabers could only be activated by this guy (don´t remember his name) and luke goes for the rescue, or when boba fett tries to kill vader... yes it was a mess :)

@Fleer Ultra nah venom is doing good cause it came out in a time with little to no competition and managed to be a decent movie and is based off a well none character. Venom is not faithful to his character.

I'm from West Virginia, and i love fallout so damn much. When i played this game for 10 hours, i wanted to make my own youtube channel to express my opinions. But you say EVERYTHING i would say in the exact tone i would say it, so when people talk about about Fallout 76, i often tell them "Just watch a youtube channel called ItsAgundam, everything on it is pretty spot on." I applaud you sir! This wreck of a CCG garbage gathering simulator has broken my heart and Bethesda has no apologies to how bad they made a game they were bragging about so fuckin' smugly.
I remember playing fallout 4 as the first one I ever played in the series, I then built a pc, played new Vegas unmodded and thought to my self "HOW THE FUCK DID THIS HAPPEN"

Don’t think of it as rewrites and shitting all over the lore-instead think of it as non-canonical and taking place in an alternative version of the fallout world you know and love. This is the Fallout 4 universe which is clearly different from the classic Fallout universe. Maybe they’ll have crossovers and can explore the differences in lore, but the only way to maintain sanity after this much lore-fuckery is to pretend it’s all taking place in another reality and hasn’t shat all over the original
For me, games are like books that you can rewrite or experience in first person. Like the innocent fascination and splendor of my first D&D session until the masterpiece that was Skyrim, immersion is key to a wonderful gaming experience. Experiences we carry into adulthood.
Changing established lore is like tearing off a page of that book that we so cherished. The wonderful worlds we have built and experienced, vandalized all in the pursuit of profit.
I understand why everyone is upset about this. Though they say games are just childlike make believe and defending established lore is a futile effort, for us those experiences were real and deserve to be preserved or extended not changed.

As far as lore goes, i had trouble finding it behind all the fuckups that Fallout story and gameplay was. Fallout 4 was full of such a blatant nonsense that i have serious doubts that F4 writers knew anything about it, not to mention knowing it in details.
Ghouls are an integral part of the lore. Yet some dimwit somehow thought that ghouls mean undead, therefore sticking ghoul kid in a fridge for 200 years made a perfect sense to him. And then they put that fridge next to a well travelled road and absolutely nobody checked it out in fking 200 years. Throughout the famine, diseases, conflict and mutations - nobody thought it would be a good idea to look what is inside that fridge.
Only even remotely good piece of writing in Fallout 4 was meeting Shaun and seeing him in his current state. Granted, i couldnt give a two fucks about his fate neither before nor after meeting him, but it was a nice little twist...that got drowned in a sea of shit that was rest of game writing.
And i will never forgive Bugtesda what t hey did to BoS and Power Armors.

Considering this takes place before every other game, this is almost definitely just an unadvertised reboot of the Fallout mythology, which is probably what they've wanted to do since Fallout 3.

I'm actually OK with Jet being retconned in. I even made up a nice little headcanon reason for why that is (Which was more fun to think up than most new Bethesda games =3) and it still allows my character to trip balls while cutting up Deathclaws with a switchblade. So it's all good with me.

I'm glad because it means that any attempts to rewrite canon (looking at you Shadow of War), it won't ruin things because it's obviously a reinterpretation, or fan fiction.

All they have to do is fire their current writer and hire someone who actually understands the lore and has a love for it
The upgraded Gamebryo (err Creation) engine is really showing its age and they need a new one to stay relevant with the competition using next-gen hardware. As for Lore, I guess BoS could communicate with other scattered army units via shortwave or satellite. Or maybe got access to a working troop transport and launched a failed expedition eastwards. A full BoS chapter in WV by 2102 might be stretching it though.

- we want to reuse those sweet assets like BoS power armor

I'd rather play my life to 2076, then play fallout 76. Fallout 4 should have been peoples wake up call, the writing was abysmal. And the ending left a worse taste then mass effect 3 endings.
