- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross subcompact SUV.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross offers a lot of value in the small SUV category! There is just one powertrain option, a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder matched to a CVT, 152 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross offers a comfortable ride, but when accelerating quickly on the highway, the cabin does get a little louder. Once you reach cruising speed, the cabin is fairly quiet. There’s plenty of advanced safety features available like a multi-view camera system, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control.
2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Standard features include an 8” touchscreen, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 4-speaker audio system, 6-way manual driver’s seat, 4-way manual passenger seat, heated front seats, cloth upholstery, automatic climate control and remote key-less entry
In the US, a 7” touchscreen is standard. The 8” touchscreen and heated front seats are available one up from the base model.
2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross available features include, navigation, a head up display, power front seats, leather appointed seats, an 8-speaker sound system and heated rear seats. The Eclipse Cross does not come with ventilated front seats.
In Canada, the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross starts at $28,998 CAD, SE $32,498 CAD, SEL $35,298 CAD, Noir $37,598 CAD and GT $38,098 CAD.
In the US, The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES $26,345 USD, LE $27,995 USD, SE $29,045 USD, SE Pano sunroof $30,045 USD, SEL $30,445 USD, and SEL Touring $32,295 USD.
Fuel Economy is rated at 9.6L/100 km, 25 MPG city and 8.9L/100 km, 26 MPG highway.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross can tow 1500 pounds.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a good size for the subcompact class with plenty of front and rear seat legroom. Cargo space falls short to others in this class like the Corolla Cross, Kia Seltos, Honda CRV and Hyundai Kona.
There is only one powertrain option available in the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross for North America, it has a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder matched to a CVT, 152 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD.

My favourite car couple is back, Happy New Year! I pick up my Crosstrek tomorrow thanks to your review.
Lived in Thunder Bay, ON for a while, which has really Extreme weather, and Mitsubishi's were everywhere. They have a great reputation for reliability and affordable repairs because Mitsubishi does not overcomplicate things and basically do the same iteration over and over.
My father in law, who works on all his own cars, recently bought an rvr for these reasons. So far he is really happy - I drove it and I pleasantly surprised - interior was simple but the ride quality was perfectly fine.
I thought it had a 10 year and 160000 kilometer warranty because my 2022 eclipse cross does. And we have had no issues or recalls on it in time the we have owned it. Great job keep up the excellent videos
The powertrain warranty is 10 years or 160,000 km. Glad your Eclipse Cross has been good to you.
This is my first time watching, and you guys have the most thorough reviews anywhere on TH-cam❤
First main car review of the year, been looking forward to this 🎉
Ty for shooting it straight and saying what we actually are interested in hearing
I like how your reviews are not biased towards specific brand and they focus more on giving a true advice to the consumer helping them to make a decision comfortably from their home couch. Love it
I am pleased to see , Andrea, you addressing a point i made in a other of your vids.....a subcompact hybrid. Yes! As well as we all know with vehicles, colour makes a diff.....i was not crazy about the black "noir" but the red model in your vid, imo, looked much nicer.
honestly i love the design! I was yesterday talking with a mecanic friend, i ask him his opinion on Mitsubishi, he told me older engines but build like a tank, he would own a mitsubishi over any german, american and korean product. Only ones that are build to last maybe more are Toyota, Honda are pretty good but not as much as mitsubishi, he said they are really underestimated. For me i really am considering one, we need a smaller vehicule because we have a nissan Rogue, so im between a crosstrek and the eclipse cross, i wouldn't hesitate if a hybrid or plugin hybrid was offered on the cross. The only problem for me is the the calibration of the cvt and the bad fuel .
the PHEV is not using CVT so... I hope you get it soon wherever you are.
Mitsubishi ❤️ Great reliable cars we own 6 Mitsubishis, Evo X, Outlander, Outlander Sport, Lancer X2 and 4g Eclipse Spyder
It’s undeniable the value for money this vehicle offers
Thanks for the great honest review.
I work for Mitsubishi and the Apple CarPlay is actually wireless. You have to use a cord to activate the CarPlay but after that, its fully wireless!
You guys are being very generous on this review.
The Red Diamond and Octane Blue on this thing looks amazing especially the one with ground effects, just wish it has a bigger 19" rims, would fit it perfectly add the Outlander's interior and tech.
Yes, the red and blue look great. The Silver also looks good and so does the White.
Lo mejor coche! Estamos encantados!
hi motormouth would you guys highly recommend this over Toyota rav4 and how good is its reliability when compared to a Toyota vehicle.
I like how the Eclipse drives better than a Rav4 or Tucson. The 1.5T is actually peppier than the NA 4cyl in the basic Toyota and Hyundai non-hybrid products.
The interior is meh, a bit plasticity but vice free. The S-AWC system is excellent for Canadian winters, and the feature content is very good.
I had a Mitsubishi 1992(?) Eclipse which was also sold as an Eagle Talon 4x4 sports car with turbo 195 hp engine and manual tras. I recall loving to drive it. Shame this is what became of the nameplate.
Will you cover RVR in the coming days?
I think you missed this point : for powertrain , Mitsubishi offers a warranty of 10 years (not 5 years) or 100,000km, whichever comes first. No other brand offers this.
The powertrain warranty is 10 years or 160,000 km, the basic warranty is 5 years or 100,000 km.
What about the other colors did they call it something else?
good value? We have RVR for the missus good value and big warranty
The Eclipse Cross PHEV is great.
Greatest car ever i put 75k in 3 years and not a single problem go mitsubishi
I have a 2018 Eclipse Cross SEL and watched this video because I was curious about the changes since the first model year. Not a lot that I can see TBH. The interior on the 2024 looks exactly like the 2018 with the exception of the lack of the piano black accents which I personally could do without. I remember people bitching about the lack of knobs on the infotainment panel in 2018 and seeing knobs on this one...just WHY? It's so ugly. The knob-less panel is sleeker. This little SUV is sexy (I have the red diamond color and well worth the extra $600 5 years ago) and it's been reliable. I used to have 2 Newfoundland dogs who both fit comfortably in the back with the seats down. 🙂 I guess I'm a Mitsubishi girl since my other car is a 1997 3000GT VR4. ;) Anyway, thanks for a great review.
Don't ever get rid of that 3000GT. I have a 2022 Eclipse Cross and an '09 Eclipse GT. The '09 isn't as quick as the 3000GT turbo, but the 3.8L V6 and the sound of the engine and exhaust make the '09 so fun to drive.
It looks like you have paddle shifters there. In my Subaru Impreza I also have paddle shifters and if I don’t use them, the car feels sluggish. However, if I downshift using the paddle shifters, it does pick up quite readily and doesn’t feel as sluggish. I wonder if that would be the same with this car.
I love you guys❤ if you did a video on like toilet paper I would watch it xo keep up the AMAZING work!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nice Tudor Zack! You need to get the Speedy in the rotation!
That's the plan!
I have the 2023 eclipse cross. No complaints. Not a fan of the piano black plastic centre piece. It scratches easy
There are trade offs with cvt transmission, they do not launch like an automatic , but it makes up for that at highway speeds and overtaking.
The engine in the eclipse cross is solid , with parts readily available, being an international vehicle parts are easy to source.
The 4b40 engine in the eclispe is also more reliable than any boxer engine from subaru and mazda sky active which suffers from carbon build up.
There is also no deterioration in transmission performance like the kia sportage and hyundai tucson which suffers from jerking.
If you live in a hilly area dont even consider dual clutch , like a sportage or tucson, your transmission wont last too long
Except the Tucson has a 6 speed automatic, just bought one so I know this
@PickensDon except the 1.6 turbo gdi tucson version comes with a dual clutch transmission which is the most common version in every region. I would know this because actual car experts have reported this.
Your point was: don’t buy a dual clutch, well Tucson comes without a dual clutch! I had one on a Q3 which failed so I agree they are picky.
It's pretty good for older and (younger people for that matter) on a budget and they're pretty dependable
I have a 2022 Outlander Sport/RVR and it's fantastic. I would highly recommend giving Mitsubishi a look when car shopping, you might be surprised!
I think you should also highlight the wait times of vehicles. In Winnipeg (Manitoba) ,Corolla Cross (Gas trim) wait time is around 2 years - placing it out of contention.
The waiting time in places is always different
Lots of corolla cross in alberta if you are looking for one.

Honda Crv also has standard 1.5 turbo.
I was looking at the Chevrolet Trax but now this has my interest . No Chevrolet dealer is willing to negotiate.
Thry should bring the Delica to the Canadian market
This was such an enjoyable video to watch, thank you for the laughs.
You mention a taos as coming standard with a turbo but not the Jetta, which also comes standard with a turbo as does the arteon, the gli, the GTI etc. the Jetta is often ignored in ten best lists but it is probably my best car ever, having cost me 16500 USD in 2019 with a 6 year warranty. 46 mpg on my first trip, phila to Atlantic City and back, 80 mph with air on. I've done 55 mpg. The 8 speed automatic can be shifted faster than any stick in manual mode (no sissy paddles). It handles like a proper German car of which I have owned a 59 Porsche a 56 Porsche a 2002 bmw, a Bavaria and a 77 rabbit, another terrific car, all of the above stick. Then on to two thunderbird turbo coupes Peugeot 504 and 505 turbo original mini 3 Mitsubishis a scion XA 2 kia fortes an Alfa Milano and a lancia zagato and almost forgot a Mazda rx2 and a 626, rear wheel drive. That's about it. I love French cars...wish an R5 turbo 2 was on my list.
We are reviewing a subcompact SUV so the Taos is one of its main competitors. Both the GLI and Jetta are great vehicles but they don't fit on the "For Your Consideration List" this time.
Its such an ANCIENT platform that its reliability is good. A revamped model line-up is REALLY needed. US dealership network is very sparse, especially outside of the largest urban centers. And why buy a Mitsubishi when you can buy a platform-mate at the local Nissan dealership? CVT transmission is not my personal preference, especially in terms of durability 😮
It's better than a Nissan Kicks though.
You'll be yawning from point A to point B driving this car. Very sluggish, slow to get going, especially driving on any incline. Great review as always.
Quicker than the HR-V and Corolla Cross, also the base 2.0L Crosstrek.
You will be yawning in every vehicle in this segment, the corolla cross will also struggle more on an incline since it does not have a Turbo, the hrv is also slower as well as the crosstrek
Black wheels, what year is this 2006?
It's the NOIR trim that's why it's black.
Why would you guys suggest the hyundai/kia subcompacts over the crosstrek? Doesnt consumer reports rate the subaru as one of the most reliable and customer satisfaction
Mutsibishi is underrated due to old designs, but they are solid vehicles. We've had 3 new ones in our family since 2014.
I prefer the Outlander Sport/RVR/ASX over Eclipse Cross even though its an older design. I prefer the normally aspirsted engine choices, the lower price, and the in-dash stereo unit over the tablet style type. Reliability is very good. Power and MPGs could be better, but that's what you get with decade old technology. Proven, but outclassed.
I bet any of the “get up and go” issues was because it was in ECO mode. Turn that off and it’s night and day.
I was going to comment on this. In eco mode, acceleration is "sluggish", but turn off eco mode and the turbo really kicks in good. I was able to EASILY pass other vehicles on single lane country roads in the U.S.
So taking off is horrible! I have to really give it gas to move it along. I'm not in Eco mode from what I can see, BUT when I'm cruising along at 70mph a little green Eco light comes on. Does that mean I'm in Eco? How do I turn it off?
@@dianaholmes7544 there is a green label called "eco" on a button just left of the usb ports
Not bad vehicle! I never like all black! The informant touchscreen is not my favourite size. I am not crazy about exterior design. Great review Andrea! ☕️☕️
Great review & nice car. I’m curious how you met & pardon me if it’s a rude question. Thank you.
To drive a mitsubishi, you have to be chill. You want to overtake/pass? Chill. Remember you're driving a mitsubishi. REMEMBER - CHILL or you'll be reminded you bought a gutless car. Chill and plan your purchase for your next car?
Bring Back the OG Eclipse and EVO!!!!!!!!!
Mitsubishi needs the XForce stateside asap. Great vehicles but lack of competitive products.
quote: "it gets there" !!!??? Since Henry Ford built the Model A, has there ever been a production car that does not "get there"????
It looks nice but I prefer the Sport.
The biggest handicap is the poor mpg. The computer makes it look far better than it is.
What's the sport?
@@mileitman
In Canada it's the RVR I believe. Here in the USA it's the Outlander Sport.
I had to go to New Jersey to buy a Mitsubishi. No Mitsu dealer on Staten Island, a land of 400,000 people.
2:40 2:40 2:40 omg all the course corrections. I rented this vehicle to go out of town and I was so nervous. Hate the steering
Mitsubishi sales are up in the U.S. in 2024, with 1st Quarter 2024 Eclipse Cross sales more than double that of 1st Quarter 2023.
Bad gas mileage but that thing gets up and go😮
Great package! Note this: the better the fuel economy, the worse the engine reliability. I believe the world is so obsessed with fuel economy that the manufacturers give people what they want at one cost, an engine that would die earlier. If you're in for reliability, pick non-turbo (naturally aspirated) with not so great fuel economy.
Or a toyota hybrid
Oh wow, the 2023 Pontiac Aztek! - But seriously, it’s personally disheartening how “far from grace” Mitsubishi has fallen now compared to their glory days, having given the legendary “Eclipse” moniker to *that* thing. I figure it’s exactly what Zack stated: solid, affordable, reliable transportation, but I wouldn’t dare even rent one if given the chance honestly.
But sales are way up. The largest increase in percentage terms was noted by Mitsubishi which saw sales rise 61.6% for 2023 in Canada. More than any other brand.
@@Motormouth... Thanks so much for replying (Andrea I assume, LOL). ~61% is incredible in the Canadian market, and makes sense given how wildly exorbitant the market has been. I’m down in Tennessee around the corner from their HQ ironically, but read a few months ago that their U.S. sales were a mere ~1.8% YOY. - Although I think it’s a “blah” vehicle, I recognize as an enthusiast that I’m part of a very small pocket of consumers, thus appreciate it’s being a good, solid vehicle for so many others who may actually need one.
Lol Aztek lol
@@donteadoss 1st quarter 2024 Eclipse Cross sales are more than double that of the 1st Quarter of 2023.
Reminder - The EV's are coming guys - no more CVT - no more sluggish - no more noise.
NO EV's
NO CVT's
NO HYBRIDS
ONLY MANUAL GASOLINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn't the warranty 10yr/160 000km in Canada?
Powertrain. The comprehensive warranty is 5/100
@@mileitman Ah thats right.
I wonder if the original Lancer Evolution engineers in Japan still work for the company and make these boring CUV/SUVs. The brand really needs to bring a sedan back....like Lancer & Galant.
All Mitsubishi needs is hire someone from other company's head of design and it will start selling more. Kia did that 20 years ago
I think their design is actually good. Thew new Outlander looks classy.
How is the crash protection. I believe in the past they were terrible
Mitsubishi is pretty bulletproof. Dealer network in U.S. is awful.
There aren’t enough dealers, but that goes along with their low volume. I wonder how long they will be in North America.
@@foxlake6750 the problem for them is they need more vehicle variety for North America. The problem with that is the other models they make outside of the US aren’t really appealing other than the Triton pickup, but they won’t sell it here unless they make it here because of tariffs.
@@foxlake6750they're doing well in Canada. Hopefully, if they exit the US they don't leave Canada.
@@DeadAir21tariffs? I know the US has the chicken tax, but we don't in Canada.
@@mileitman true but for almost every vehicle out there if the US doesn’t get it, neither does Canada. They do sell the triton in Mexico though.
Nissan Rogue also comes with a standard 3 cylinder turbo
The Eclipse Cross is a 100% Mitsubishi designed and built as it was conceived prior to Nissan becoming a shareholder.
Not in the same class.
The Rogue S comes with a 2.5 naturally aspirated 4
The Nissan partnership has done no favors for Mitsubishi. Really the partnership has killed the brand in North America. It's a shame to see.
Anything that’s associated with Nissan is junk! .. Nissan at one time were a decent vehicle. Once Renault got involved, … well we all know the history. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi got involved with these two and the stink is attached! …
This should be priced at the very least 5k lower. The competitors are all better priced.
I'm not sure you watched the video, the Eclipse starts at $28,998 while the Honda starts at $31,000 and the Toyota start at $30,000. Both the Kona and Seltos are base FWD, not standard AWD.
Car companies needs to just to put 4 cylinder or a 4 cylinder 2.0 🤭. Would be perfect. No turbo LOL more things to fix and worry about. Zack in the camera LMAO 😂😂💀
Cyber truck review ?
You didn't mention a big negative; the Mitsubishi dealer network. There aren't many around and they may not be close to buyers, which can be annoying for maintenance etc. Suzuki disappeared; how sure are you that Mitsubishi won't also disappear from these shores? The Eclipse Cross seems to be a budget vehicle from a company with a tiny budget. Not that any vehicle prices these days are truly "budget"!
We did mention lack of dealers in the US
You did?! Sheesh, I must have gotten distracted and missed that. Oops. @@Motormouth...
@@Motormouth...And here in Canada I think there are a lot more dealers. For instance, there are 4 here in the Ottawa region vs 3 Subaru dealers
Sorry, to me it looks like the family trickster from the original Vacation.
Too much turbo lag... Mazda has the least turbo lag but there is a wee bit even in their turbos.
Gino Vannelli says black cars, black cars look better in the shade
It's sluggish because of ECO mode.
have talked to MITSU exes why dont give more vehicles
Owned a 2011 Galant. A/C and body hardware fell apart.
Mitsubishi, exactly like its parent company, Nissan, is a Japanese car company with reliability of a French car. Both are owned by Renault, which isn't exactly a surprise. The worse of all, those who buy them, have the expectation of "proper" Japanese reliability. But they don't get what they want from Toyota, Honda and Mazda.
If you don't mind GM's iffy reliability, Chevrolet Trax is a much better daily driving "appliance" than the Eclipse Cross. When the warranty expires, Mitsubishi's parts costs as much as European makes. However, GM parts continue to be cheap.
This was engineered and designed before the Nissan/Renault alliance, so no it isn't a French car or Nissan.
@@Motormouth...This! I'd trust this one over the newer Nissan based stuff. Have you seen reliability issues with the Rogue's 1.5t 3 cylinder with the funky variable compression? Great idea, bad execution.
The Eclipse Cross is all Mitsubishi, no Nissan influence, the Eclipse Cross was introduced back in 2017 when Mitsubishi turned 100 years of making automobiles, also the Eclipse Cross is made in Japan.
Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about :) Mitsubishi is a brand known for it's reliability and they offer some of the best guarantees. You will get bored from the car before your warranty runs out.
Facts @@nikolayrayanov2895
Mitsubishi is Japanese for "Missing the Mark" they have been doing it continually for years. Yes, they are getting better but they still don't have it. They are going up against the less expensive and better Kia Brands but without a reason to choose Mitsubishi over Hyundai/Kia. No value proposition to choose Mitsubishi over the Korean brands.
I thought it was 10 year warranty .... not 5 as you mentioned. ...
Is the 10 year warranty only in america?
10 years or 160,000 km is the powertrain warranty, comprehensive is 5 years or 100,000 km.
Black cars look better in the shade ......
Or cooking an egg on the bonnet.
maybe its me but it really just seems like a bit better looking Pontiac Aztek. 😁
Mitsubishi is no longer sold in the UK.
It is sold on the continent though.
@@mileitman I found one from the Netherlands when I was in mainland Europe.
They even sell rebadged Renault products there.
@@DaveDVideoMakeryes. The new ASX is a rebadged Captur and the Colt is a Clio. I'd love to see the latter replace the Mirage here in Canada.
So, it doesn't seem totally terrible... but in looks, features, & fuel economy, it looks like it could have been out 10 years ago.
Fuel economy aside, the Corolla Cross is worse on all the points even though it just came out not long ago. It comes standard with plastic wheel covers and 3-speed wipers like it's 1988.
AUSSIES get PHEV with their E cross
Europe as well, for the last couple of years.
They should be embarrassed calling it an Eclipse!
agree
💯✅️✅️✅️ an abomination! 😢
I think if this thing was not called an Eclipse Cross, it would have more favourable first impressions. It'd been perfectly acceptable if it were called a Lancer Cross. 😅
Mitsubishi needs to go back to its sports car and rugged truck roots.
First like!
Calling that a Eclipse is pure blasphemy. Mitsubishi just trying to capitalize on a time when they were still relevant. I'd honestly wouldn't spend my money on a brand that might not be around next year.
Why bother to comment then?
Need attention, a hug perhaps?
An CVT gearbox...you don't want to have it.
You don't believe? Make a test drive.
I was given one as a rental from my insurance company while my other SUV was in the shop. Drove it for over 3 weeks. It was downright terrible. No power, horribly cheap interior, tiny retro infotainment, hard seats, and on and on. If you're looking at this SUV, for goodness sake look for something else!
Not enough Eclipse DNA, namely not enough power.
If you want to drive a lawn mower
for the price of the base model eclipse cross, you can nearly get the highest trim fully loaded Chevy Trax Activ / 2RS with better gas mileage. This is a hard sell imo
Depends whether you want or need awd. Trax is fwd only I believe; Eclipse is awd standard.
I'd take the japanese made Eclipse Cross, plus it has S-AWC, I just don't like how the rear on the Trax looks so squished.
@@rapide12345 Ya, I do agree the back end of trax looks quite off, rest of it is decent tho, reliability wise, I think they're about the same
@@genericreference6969 Yes agreed, I live in Vancouver where it snows on average 1 week a year so I don't want AWD, but for rural areas, I would get AWD from other brands.
Nissan and Mitsubishi are in the same family manufacturing. I prefer Nissan with my QASHQAI 2018 and now the 2022. The front is really UGLY 😢😢😢 TANKS to keep your Kindness about Mitsubishi 😂😂😂
does not compare well head to head dollar for dollar with rav4 needs 2litre turbo better steering
Thanks vehicle expert.
It competes more with the Corolla Cross.
That is ugly
It’s a Nissan Rogue with Mitsubishi badging. Your money will be better spent on a Toyota or Honda.
No it's not... these are 100% Mitsu GS platform. The new Outlander was co-developed with Nissan, and the Rogue is co-developed with Mitsu. That'll be the future of Nissan and Mitsu cars
@@Kris_PL_CDN they both still come with the troublesome Jatco CVT transmission. For reliability and quality I would recommend getting a Toyota or Honda.
Soo ugly, but cute 🤗
The only worthwhile Vehicle Mitsubishi ever made was a 3000GT, the rest are basically garbage.
