We just traded our 2019 XT4 for the 2024 model. The interior upgrades are remarkable. The new screen is stunning, and really modernizes the vehicle. Lots and lots of customization features. I have noted the suspension is improved, and I really like the new front end styling. Our 2019 was very reliable, with only two very minor issues, both fixed under warranty. Our new one is the Stellar Black Metallic colour, which really pops in the sun with all of the gold flake. There are lots of little, pleasing details such as the illuminated Cadillac logo on the back of the screen, visible through the windshield, the suede on the sides of the seats, the embroidery on the top of the dash, the carbon fibre trim on the doors and dash etc. Its a really nice vehicle, and a perfect size for the city. Anyone considering a CUV really should check out the XT4.

Thanks for another great video. Recently purchased the Q3 after looking closely at the Volvo XC40. Your reviews helped and the bang for the buck was the deciding factor. 3 months in and no complaints!
I'm looking for a small to midsize luxury crossover/suv. 2 rows approx 190 inches long. What I find is that some are high spec and well appointed, but typically the larger vechicles come with higher end and more options. Why don't the manufacturers make the smaller vehicles with the same high end options? Just because I want a smaller vehicle mainly for parking, turning, etc, it doesn't mean I want something less luxurious or high tech.
The Audi Q3 is a terrific vehicle. We owned a 2018 and moved into a 2023 recently. Wife loves it and we love the regular fuel option as well. For someone who doesn’t have teenagers this is a great option!
I am sort of thinking about this one. I like the look. I'm older, no young kids so I can now choose for me, but what are the maintenance bills like? How much is an oil change and other basics, when it comes to the Q3?
I had a Q3 which, while emotionally a loser (involved in a divorce fight) when we got it I loved it! Was a 2014 S-Line with 220 hp fun car (with too much turbo lag) . But it had costly issues needing replacement of the dual clutch robot shifter, radiator, and the tires last about a year. Looked at a new one and it looked cheaper but not better. Happier now with Hyundai Tucson hybrid. Now I can’t sell it no one wants an old q3 too costly to fix.
On our second XC40 T5 and looking forward to getting a third when they fully redesign it as a pure BEV. We're only on the second one because the first one kept its value so insanely well we couldn't resist the trade offer.
We live in Europe so the options are a bit different for us. Looked at the Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo and Mini and narrowed it down to the Volvo and the Audi. Eventually decided on the Audi because my wife wasn't a fan of the Volvo even though we were offered a great deal on the XC40. Got the Q3 Sportback (not sold in North America) and are very happy so far except for the rear seat headroom when our tall kids are with us. Love the way it drives, both on long trips and around town, and got an extended seven year warranty thrown in. Price was OK [we have a 25% VAT to account for instead of sales tax] and we loaded up on many extras including leather seats. We very much prefer the physical buttons for the AC and the traditional shift lever. Would do it again.

Andrea, Zack, appreciate you providing prices for the various trim levels of vehicles, however the fully optioned price on top trims especially in the luxury segment tend to be considerably higher than top trim MSRP.
Great review as always, I know this is a luxury subcompact review, but I have to admit, looking at this and the price tag associated with these vehicles, I am just so happy I have a Mazda, CX5 and a Mazda, CX 30, I feel those vehicles are almost just as good, with Price tags many thousands less. I take that money and do so many other things with the difference. Oh, well to each their own!
Yep, my 2024 Cadillac XT4 (0-60 in 7 sec) is quicker than my 2014 Toyota Highlander (0-60 in 7.6 sec) that I traded in. XT4 also handles better too. I upgraded from a 2014 Toyota Highlander to a 2024 Cadillac XT4 this past weekend (the 2024 highlander drove the same and is pretty much the same chasis and interior so it's boring). The Cadillac XT4 has no turbo lag that I can feel. Every other car that I test drove had turbo lag, whether short or long...Mercedes GLC300 (least turbo lag), BMW X3 (a little more turbo lag), Porsche Macan S (even more turbo lag), Honda (way too much turbo lag). The Cadillac has these features that TH-camrs miss: - lighted logo behind the dashboard - pulsating safety seat (most cars only beep) - left behind child in the rear seat alert - capless fuel tank (like my 2017 Corvette C7 ) - umbrella storage in the doors (like Rolls Royce) - active noise cancellation (like my 2017 Corvette C7 with Bose) - power passenger seat with lumbar - free 5G hotspot - stop/start feature is the smoothest I’ve ever experienced that I don't even notice it. My other car is a 2017 Corvette Stingray in stickshift.
Had an Audi Q3 on order but cancelled it because it doesn’t have lane keep assist. Not even on offer for more $$$. As someone who drives on highways a lot, that is a dealbreaker.
Ooh, I just love that boxy Mercedes GLB, especially one of the more powerful AMG models! I have wanted a Volvo for 30 years, and now that I could afford one, the reliability has gone off the rails.Such a bummer!
Great work as usual. The Audi Q3 is very interesting, once I do not need the cargo room of my RDX. But the only one interesting in Ottawa is 2023, 10,000 km, at $58,000…
I was looking at the XT4, but the Deal Breaker was the 2 liter Turbo Engine, If they had offered it with the 3.6, even the 3.0 V6, I would have bought it in a Heartbeat
Andrea and Zach great review. Too bad you couldn't drive the refreshed Cadillac XT4. I've heard the only drawback of the XT4 was the refinement of the 2.0 liter powerplant or the noise level in the cabin. Is it quiet and refined?
Nah, I still don’t like JDPower as much as Consumer Reports. But having said that, I’d still take the Cadillac because it’s a great facelift they did. Finally Cadillac is competing with good interiors. My other option is Lexus. Anything Lexus does is magical. Great video guys.
I really dont like that one piece long wide infotainment screen. Id rather it be separate and in the middle, and then a separate screen behind the wheel that shows the speed, etc. And i do like some basic knobs for temperature, radio, etc. While i love technology, a touchscreen just seems annoying and unnecessary for basic things like radio and temperature.
I was looking at the Q3 and test drove both the standard and the 45tfsi model. Ultimately both are under powered for the price they're asking for. The Q5 is decent but older in terms of interior design than the Q3. We went to the LA Car show to check out other options and fell in love with the Genesis GV70. A few days later we bought one and never looked back. Not sure why it's not in this comparison.
I had an X1 28i as a rental car in NY this summer. I really hated the dual clutch lag in the city (I might had a defect car though). I have a 22 Rav4 hybrid back home, which has much better reaction times in the city (I did not want to loan a BMW, they had run out of rav4 size cars).
Good info. My concern with all of the cars in the round up is no dual mode fuel injection (Direct and Port) in these small turbos. If you are leasing the vehicle or only plan on keeping it for 30,000-50,000 miles then carbon build up on the intake values should not be a problem, but, if you plan on keeping the SUV for many years/miles it is very possible that the intake valve issue will need to be addressed. I know there is no agreement on how much of a problem intake value carbon build up is (of course every brand that does not have dual mode injection says it is not a problem at all), but if I were purchasing a new vehicle, I would like to have the manufacturer address it. Lexus/Toyota, Genesis, and I *think* Ford are offering a limited number of engines with dual mode injection.
Corsair Grand Touring, runs on regular gas when needed, has very comfortable quiet interior better than Lexus, has exterior German like styling, is more reliable than VOLVO, gets fantastic hybrid gas milage, decent handling and acceleration, yet can’t even get an honourable mention, maybe if built in Germany would get some respect.
Germans and Japanese rivals has been dominating sales nearly for 2 decades! It will take awhile for American luxury brands like Cadillac and Lincoln to catch up. It’s been stereotyped as “old luxury” driven by Baby Boomers.
I have been debating between the 2023 GLB 250 and the 2025 XC40. I have been going back and forth for 3 weeks, and I cannot decide. Price points are equal, insurance costs are equal. Looking for some input to break this tie breaker. Safety is of paramount concern
Does anyone have experience with the GLB or xc40 with two car seats? GLB is not my favorite look, but I love the option of having extra seats for a guest.
Thank you for the reply. I like trying to "identify the cars" so I always search for clues, but I was so struggling to figure this one out. Looks really roomy and luxurious... of course it is a Porsche! Thanks again!@@Motormouth...
Definitely Q3 and X1. I have driven XC40 for quite a while, its overrated for its top position. The front seats are thinner than what Volvo used to have. Damping feels more like a warm over subcompact SUV with a luxury badge, not premium brand. I kind of associate Volvo with Buick's tier-2 segment rather than Mercedes/BMW/Audi/Lexus tier 1 premium segment.
Great job. Not so much interested in a pretigious brand although you have come compelling arguments and went for a Hyundai instead, the Tuscon plugin hybrid and so far we have no regrets. Has a lot of what the "better" brands offer but at a lower price.
Cadillac xt4 comes with an additional rattles and road noise at no extra chargealso the 9-speed transmission only works when it wants to add 75 or 80 you have to manually shift into 9th gear and the engine code light comes engine light comes on engine light comes on
If folks love the reviews just wondering when you’re doing the reviews and you’re going into the comparison for fuel economy you quote the leaders per hundred kilometres then you quote the miles for gallon but you got fans in the states as well as Canada so which miles per gallon are you using is that the miles per gallon in the states or is that the miles per gallon imperial?
Bizarre that the Lexus UX250h doesn’t make the top 5 cuz it’s small. To me, that’s the point of a sub compact, to be small. As the sign in the Vinyl Cafe record shop says: “We may not be big, but we’re small.”
@@jraheemjefcoat429I’m a Canadian, like Zack & Andrea, but I agree that the industry does seem to be chasing a NA market of “bigger is better”, upsizing CRV, RAV4, etc.
The NX is in the compact class, not subcompact. It did make our compact list. Here is the link to that video th-cam.com/video/vb8Hmvs8R8M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=58DxDdpU9TWR2o_3
That’s one of the reasons I am hesitating buying it. I also heard it burns oil like crazy and the repairs are very expensive. What is your experience? Thanks!
Even though it is small, I would take the UX over any of the others. Reliability, low maintenance costs, retained value, gas mileage. Would never drive another German car after a Porsche and Audi. I think luxury comes with peace of mind and not just pricing. Just my opinion.
Why is it so hard to find out how much cargo space the UX has with the rear seats folded down? The answer, I think, is about 43 cubic feet, for anyone wondering. That's been bugging me for months.
I actually think Cadillac is killing it design wise. Think the BMW got too large. The UX is the perfect size for a *sub* compact. Mini ain’t gonna be mini anymore 🥹 plus it’s too expensive. I’d be torn between the Cadi & the Q3
Looking at reliability most being below 80 with JD Power, 72 each for BMW and Volvo, I would take a pass on those right away. I would shop amongst your last video Top 5 subcompact SUV and buy a loaded one of those brands (Toyota, Honda, etc) with better reliability, more features, etc... plus most take regular gas. I too was surprised by the good JDP ratings for the Cadillac.
Would rather have the Lexus LBX, but of course that isn't sold in our market since that is actually a true subcompact crossover instead of a compact one reclassified as a "subcompact".
@@SHBK1980I like that the LBX is a bit smaller, & I loved my 2015 Yaris SE hatch 5-MT for the 4 years that I had it before it was crushed by a distracted driver. The LBX looks a lot better than the UX in a variety of way. The UX has ugly, weird-looking styling & bulges towards the rear & looks more like a flashy station wagon than a crossover. I don't care much about the luxury aspect of things, as I found even my $19K 2015 Yaris SE to be fun, comfortable & perfectly fine. Same with my current 2022 Mazda CX-30 CE. So, I'm sure the LBX is plenty refined for my tastes even as a "bottom-tier Lexus".
The fact that the Audi Q3 STILL doesn't offer ventilated front seats on the Premium Plus is ridiculous. Even the Lexus UX has ventilated front seats. For the price of a fully-loaded Santa Fe Calligraphy or even a better equipped UX 250h (if you want a subcompact luxury option that doesn't need premium fuel), the Audi Q3 really should offer ventilated front seats. And the same for the XC40. Otherwise there's no point in going for a premium or luxury brand when mainstream brands have luxury models that give you more features for less $
I had an XC40 (T4 model) but i found it too slow and the safety tech too annoying so I switched to a Q3 which i much prefer. Volvo is more plush inside but the Audi is an overall better car in my view.
My life has changed now that I just live for hearing Andrea say “pound feeta torque!” with such enthusiasm! Somehow makes me smile!

Andrea, Zack, appreciate you providing prices for the various trim levels of vehicles, however the fully optioned price on top trims especially in the luxury segment tend to be considerably higher than top trim MSRP.
Yes lots of add ons for sure but you don't have to add them.
Great review. Thanks. Apparently, Cadillac is coming to Australia next year. I think they'll be well received.
The Cadillac has these features that TH-camrs miss:
- lighted logo behind the dashboard
- pulsating safety seat (most cars only beep)
- left behind child in the rear seat alert
- capless fuel tank (like my 2017 Corvette C7 )
- umbrella storage in the doors (like Rolls Royce)
- active noise cancellation (like my 2017 Corvette C7 with Bose)
- power passenger seat with lumbar
- free 5G hotspot
- stop/start feature is the smoothest I’ve ever experienced that I don't even notice it.
My other car is a 2017 Corvette Stingray in stickshift.
Had an Audi Q3 on order but cancelled it because it doesn’t have lane keep assist. Not even on offer for more $$$. As someone who drives on highways a lot, that is a dealbreaker.
you cant stay in lanes? I dont understand why this feature is even necessary unless u constantly fall asleep at the wheel
@@nextfall1047 It alerts you if you're changing lanes and a car is there/in your blind spot. Very helpful on my Mercedes.
Ooh, I just love that boxy Mercedes GLB, especially one of the more powerful AMG models! I have wanted a Volvo for 30 years, and now that I could afford one, the reliability has gone off the rails.Such a bummer!
The reliability will probably come back once they go fully electric
@@jodi_caffeinatedyarn everyone says stay away from mercedes, it will be a money pit, sad
Great work as usual. The Audi Q3 is very interesting, once I do not need the cargo room of my RDX. But the only one interesting in Ottawa is 2023, 10,000 km, at $58,000…
Caddy finally coming back down under, for a price of course. Last assembled here in the 1960s. Big fin era.
I was looking at the XT4, but the Deal Breaker was the 2 liter Turbo Engine, If they had offered it with the 3.6, even the 3.0 V6, I would have bought it in a Heartbeat
You do a video with no starbucks in the cupholders on a Saturday morning that's brave.
Lol, probably recorded PS (post Starbucks) 😊
Andrea and Zach great review. Too bad you couldn't drive the refreshed Cadillac XT4. I've heard the only drawback of the XT4 was the refinement of the 2.0 liter powerplant or the noise level in the cabin. Is it quiet and refined?
Nah, I still don’t like JDPower as much as Consumer Reports. But having said that, I’d still take the Cadillac because it’s a great facelift they did. Finally Cadillac is competing with good interiors. My other option is Lexus. Anything Lexus does is magical. Great video guys.
Please get your hands on the new xt4
I really dont like that one piece long wide infotainment screen. Id rather it be separate and in the middle, and then a separate screen behind the wheel that shows the speed, etc. And i do like some basic knobs for temperature, radio, etc. While i love technology, a touchscreen just seems annoying and unnecessary for basic things like radio and temperature.
As always, great review reflecting your homework. I've been told the DCT in the X1 is extremely rough and jerky. What do you think?
Our test model was great, we didn't find it jerky.
@@andreaspencer9813 Great to her! Thank you for your feedback.
Loving the Audi Q3 ❤️🔥👍
I was looking at the Q3 and test drove both the standard and the 45tfsi model. Ultimately both are under powered for the price they're asking for. The Q5 is decent but older in terms of interior design than the Q3.
We went to the LA Car show to check out other options and fell in love with the Genesis GV70. A few days later we bought one and never looked back. Not sure why it's not in this comparison.
Probably because it is not a sub-compact, it is the same size as the Q5. The GV 70 is a beautiful car!
It is a compact, not Sub-compact. And it is one of their 5 best Lux Compacts.
Why is Buick Envision not in this review? Because it has the same engine as the XT4?
I think I would get the volvo xc40 I love it! It has the perfect ride height! compared to the others!
What is size up from Lexus ux, hybrid ?
The Lexus NX!
Bit late to this one but looking forward to watching in 🎉
Corsair Grand Touring, runs on regular gas when needed, has very comfortable quiet interior better than Lexus, has exterior German like styling, is more reliable than VOLVO, gets fantastic hybrid gas milage, decent handling and acceleration, yet can’t even get an honourable mention, maybe if built in Germany would get some respect.
Germans and Japanese rivals has been dominating sales nearly for 2 decades! It will take awhile for American luxury brands like Cadillac and Lincoln to catch up. It’s been stereotyped as “old luxury” driven by Baby Boomers.
Drive a 2022 Audi Q3 Premium Plus and love it. Good power, fun to drive.
I have been debating between the 2023 GLB 250 and the 2025 XC40. I have been going back and forth for 3 weeks, and I cannot decide. Price points are equal, insurance costs are equal. Looking for some input to break this tie breaker. Safety is of paramount concern
I test drove the Lexus NX and Cadillac XT4. The Cadillac is far superior in front leg comfort and interior.
Love the list. For the UX, it is more of a puffed hatchback than an SUV.
Does anyone have experience with the GLB or xc40 with two car seats? GLB is not my favorite look, but I love the option of having extra seats for a guest.
Happy to see the Lexus UX on here. Great Little Lexus for daily driving in the city. Thanks for the honorable mention
Agreed! It doesn't get a lot of love compared to its larger siblings
Give me that 2025 Countryman, such a fun ride! 🎉
@Andrea and Zack (ladies first!): Have you considered using the recently released Consumer Reports reliability data?
Great video, Thank you.
I have a GLA 35 AMG and I am very satisfied with this car
Good show! Yea I am surprised the Cadillac xt4 is so good. Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️
Impressive reliability scores and it is fun to drive. Glad you enjoyed the show, thanks for watching.
@@andreaspencer9813 I agree! You are a very welcome! ☕️☕️
Driving X1 but in my short list I was considering Lexus NX 250 and Jaguar E-pace. What about those cars?
Hi, please someone tell me what car is Andrea and Zack sitting in to film this video. Thanks in advance.
Our Porsche Cayenne
Alphabetical order…..
Andrea, you look fantastic, girl. 💖💖💖
Decent list, much better than your mid size list.
Great job. Not so much interested in a pretigious brand although you have come compelling arguments and went for a Hyundai instead, the Tuscon plugin hybrid and so far we have no regrets. Has a lot of what the "better" brands offer but at a lower price.
Amen to the simplicity of the GM infotainment. Honda, Subaru, and Toyota could learn a lot from GM on this front.
Cadillac xt4 comes with an additional rattles and road noise at no extra chargealso the 9-speed transmission only works when it wants to add 75 or 80 you have to manually shift into 9th gear and the engine code light comes engine light comes on engine light comes on
The rear turn signals on the Countryman are weird.
Consumer Reports is the better trouble index to follow over JD Power.
Funny how the Q3 have the same engine output as a VW Tiguan in the base engine. But yet VW doesn’t offer the powerful engine for the Tiguan
That may goes for the European market. North Americans just want space, even if it’s subcompact.
@@jraheemjefcoat429I’m a Canadian, like Zack & Andrea, but I agree that the industry does seem to be chasing a NA market of “bigger is better”, upsizing CRV, RAV4, etc.
I'm all about Reliability and Gas Mileage so I would go for the Lexus UX over any of the others you mentioned
I agree.
I never thought to consider the Cadillac
The Lexus NX didn’t make the list? What are the most reliable vehicles among the segment?
The NX is in the compact class, not subcompact. It did make our compact list. Here is the link to that video th-cam.com/video/vb8Hmvs8R8M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=58DxDdpU9TWR2o_3
Lexus all day my choice from my experiences
Anyone knows what vehicle and are they sitting in?
Our Porsche Cayenne.
@@andreaspencer9813 Thank you!!!
XT5 Cadillac number 1
Can you speak about Mazda cross over 2024
Why is the Lincoln Corsair not even in your memorable list ???
the xt4 really interests me.
I have an Audi Q3 and love it but for its leaking roof. I’m on my third repair and hope it’s the last…
That’s one of the reasons I am hesitating buying it. I also heard it burns oil like crazy and the repairs are very expensive. What is your experience? Thanks!
@ no problems with burning oil but front and back brakes had to be replaced before the 80,000km mark.
@ How much was it to change them? I’m really just trying to give me an idea of the costs of repair. Thank you so much again!
i really love my rvr gt reliable big warranty better than any car mentioned
Andrea, do you get royalties as Automakers boast of having 'Andrea Auto' in all their cars?
I really should!! Lol!
I'd get the Cadillac or Mini.
The XC40 is cool, practical, and luxurious, while some Germans are starting to look like civics and I don't like that 😢
Even though it is small, I would take the UX over any of the others. Reliability, low maintenance costs, retained value, gas mileage. Would never drive another German car after a Porsche and Audi. I think luxury comes with peace of mind and not just pricing. Just my opinion.
What happened with he Audi for you to never consider it again? And what model was it? Thank you!
Why is it so hard to find out how much cargo space the UX has with the rear seats folded down? The answer, I think, is about 43 cubic feet, for anyone wondering. That's been bugging me for months.
Why you never mention Acura in your show ? I enjoy your show anyway, thanks
We did Top 5 Luxury Compact SUVs and the Acura RDX was on our list. Acura doesn't offer a subcompact SUV in their lineup.
Volvo XC40 any day
Please lexus, replace UX ASAP. Make it more competitive in its class.
And looking less like a plain hatchback.
I would like iX1 or XC40 ev
Model Y isn't regarded as premium, but the price, performance and specs are far above any other brand currently
@@jamespaul2587 I agree 100%, this is why Model Y is best sold model in 2024
but I tried to keep to subcompact luxury suv-s
LBX is even smaller than the UX as it is based on the Yaris Cross. UX is way more luxorious.
Which would you prefer? 2024 BMW X1 or 2024 Cadillac XT4?
I had an XC40 (T4 model) but i found it too slow and the safety tech too annoying so I switched to a Q3 which i much prefer. Volvo is more plush inside but the Audi is an overall better car in my view.
