  • The subcompact crossover SUV market is full of vehicles vying for your attention. Each one has unique characteristics that make them standouts, whether it be fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, price, or driving enjoyment. So what does the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross bring to the table?
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which produces 152 hp & 184 lb-ft of torque (113 kW & 249 Nm). Those numbers are not class-leading, in fact they’re very average for this class, but because it is turbocharged, it feels peppy from a stop. It doesn’t struggle to get up to speed nor does it ever feel as though it is impeding traffic behind it.
Unfortunately the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is not a particularly efficient subcompact crossover. It is rated for 9.6 L/100km (24.5 MPG) in a city and 8.9 L/100km (26.4 MPG) on a highway. On highways,it is possible to get slightly better fuel economy figures than what it’s rated for but the city fuel economy is accurate. During my week with the car, I averaged 9.2 L/100km (25.5 MPG).
The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross starts at $29,398 CAD ($26,345 USD) while the Noir trim will set you back $37,998 CAD ($29,195 USD). This is almost a top spec trim with only the GT at $38,498 CAD ($31,145 USD, Ralliart) being more expensive.

The 360 camera and handsfree liftgate are pretty rare for the segment.I wish you touched on that

They're not that rare anymore. The Kia Seltos & Mazda CX-30 both have a power liftgate while the Hyundai Kona has surround view cameras. Admittedly, not both. But the Kona & Seltos are both also available with ventilated front seats which this does not have. And also the Seltos has a head-up display as well. Surround view cameras are great but the ones on this Eclipse Cross have some of the worst resolution I've seen on a modern day car.

And on top of it, they stole the name from the only fun to drive vehicle they used to sell in North America, and slapped it on this mediocrity. Spoiler alert: that Eclipse had a normally aspirated engine, more power, 5 speed stick, and got better fuel economy. How do you get from there to this?

And I used to own an Eclipse too. It was my first car. And now they're using the Ralliart name for this car.....

Hyundai & Kia have come a very long way in the last decade, never mind the late 90's.
