To be fair, it's not hard to do right now. I mean, not that you need a ps1 if you have a ps2, or a ps2 if you have a 60gig fat ps3. But the three old systems are still pretty cheap, and the ps4 is getting cheaper.
So how these work is the laser looks for an index which starts from the center of the disc out compared to a record which is out in. PS1 uses standard disc format kinda like a cd-rom or music cd. Which is around 650-700 MB of data max. PS2 used DVD format which is 4.7 to 9 gig depending on if you using duel layer disc or not. PS3, PS4 and PS5 uses blu-ray format which is entirely different compared to dvd or cd. PS 4 has smarter tech in software to identify PS4 vs blu ray and first it looks at the index in the center of the disc. If it cannot find that special coding it looks for in the game, it will go "Hey this is not a ps4 game so this must be either music,dvd, media, or blu-ray movie." So then it will try to find the proper index for any of those. Which is why you getting the different sounds it was making, As it was going back and forth in figuring out which of the multiple indexes that could be available. Now and days there is so many choices and availability that a ps4 and ps5 can read which is why no error as it keeps trying all of the choices available. The Ps2 had really 3 choices to choose from and that is it. Game PS1/PS2, Music or dvd. If it cannot find the index of either, it just flag the error as it assumes the disc is either damage or unreadable. PS1 was the most basic of software and it had only 2 indexes to look for, music or game. The indexes for either of these were written very similar to each other as the devs for the ps1 wanted a simple way for the ps1 to index for cost and dev time. There is 1 major difference they added for the indexing of the ps1 and this just got more advanced with future consoles is the index on the ps1 is copy protected mean it will not copy over to a burned cd which is why u needed a mod chip as it would inject that index into the console before reading the disc to fool the console. You would have a copied game on the burned cd but without the proper index. As you can see as the system got more advanced and more options of data format became more available as well as error correction tries to be more detailed which gives reason for the keep trying to read approach without error message.

The XMB menu to be exact. Yes. I loved that menu screen... I miss it a lot. When the PS4 launched without it, I was genuinely disappointed it wasn't as good or better... if anything, it was worse :/
"The disc could not be read." That's what the PS2 Slim says for every disc that's put into it, including most PS2 games. The PS1 Slim doing absolutely nothing at all is no surprise either.

My friend had a PS1 Slim and PS2 Slim that never worked, and that's why he hates all Playstations to this day. I've had other friends with the same problems with those slim models and always told them to be careful with them. After witnessing the fails of their systems, I know what they were like. However, my PS3 Slim works perfectly, while I've noticed some of the PS3 fats of my friends having problems. Maybe I'm lucky or just take better care of my stuff.

Me and my friends had some really great memories playing Black Ops 1, Black Ops 2, Little Big Planet 1, Little Big Planet 2, and Modern Warfare 3 together! I've heard the ps4 will play ps1 disks, but I haven't tried it or seen it. Obviously ps1 disks work in a ps2, I played them all the time. I couldn't tell you about ps5 or ps3 (there are different backwards compatabilities with different types of ps3, early ones play ps2 games, later ones don't, unless it's the ps2/3 hybrid, etc).

U can buy them at Walmart it is just a thin strip of cord that u can stick to anything on the wall and make ur own designs n stuff with it they are pretty cheap actually but they work good

@@RobertJene idk it probably depends on what it’s loading up like for example try putting in killzone 3 which is the largest in size ps3 game then put in something like call of duty classic and see if it takes longer for the larger disc to load than the smaller one, and if that theory is correct then it’s not the ps3s disc drive being better than the ps4s in some way, but it’s just that it has to load smaller games than the ps4 because the ps4 games are obviously larger than ps3 games

Generally, older disc drives didn't spin as fast as modern ones, even when pushed. Not that the read speeds could even support that anyway. In this case, it probably didn't even recognize it as a valid disc because of how different the format is. So that's probably why they were quiet. Unlike the PS3 and PS4. Which recognized it as a blu-ray disc. But likely didn't get the proper read on them because of software incompatibility.

The PS5 disc is a ultra Blu-ray Disc. The PS5 drive is an ultra blu-ray drive. The PS4 drive is a blu-ray drive. The PS3 drive is a Blu-ray drive. The PS2 is a DVD drive. The PS1 drive is a CD drive. This is why it can’t be read in the other consoles. Even if it could be read the program on the disc is incompatible with the cpus in the other consoles.
I waited some kind of error messages etc but due to the technology being dated to CD roms DVD's etc the system didn't updated somehow in order to show messages like that.I remember in ps3 first model slim when you put a ps2 game it saying this is a ps2 game disc if im not mistaken! Also this reminded the good all days that at least they had a backwards until the ps3 80gig models,and their controllers worked in their second & first models as well!
3:47 Once when I was getting Call of Duty: Ghosts on my PS3 Slim, but hey gave me a PS4 version. I realised it immediately but I still tried it on my model. Now, my Slim's disc drive isn't good at the best of times, but when I put that PS4 disc in, it made weird noises like never before, and I immediately took it out to prevent damage to my disc drive. I took it back and got a PS3 version.

I waited some kind of error messages etc but due to the technology being dated to CD roms DVD's etc the system didn't updated somehow in order to show messages like that.I remember in ps3 first model slim when you put a ps2 game it saying this is a ps2 game disc if im not mistaken! Also this reminded the good all days that at least they had a backwards until the ps3 80gig models,and their controllers worked in their second & first models as well!
With the ps1, you need to place the disc in before you press the “on” button.

Once when I was getting Call of Duty: Ghosts on my PS3 Slim, but hey gave me a PS4 version. I realised it immediately but I still tried it on my model.
Now, my Slim's disc drive isn't good at the best of times, but when I put that PS4 disc in, it made weird noises like never before, and I immediately took it out to prevent damage to my disc drive. I took it back and got a PS3 version.
I was waiting to that PS2's red screen telling you to enter a playstation format disk, ohh that would be a low blow to your ps5 🤣🤣
