The concept of power to weight ratio is something that a lot of people don't seem to understand...
One note about the turbo thing: bikes are way more sensitive to changes in power while cornering (adding power makes the bike want to stand upright more, whereas braking makes the bike fall over more. The rider must manage all this while factoring their body position and counter-steering) and the power delivery of turbos can make that much more difficult, hence why there are so few examples of factory turbo bikes and they all were pretty much unsuccessful commercially. The only place you'll really see turbos on bikes is the drag strip, where cornering performance doesn't really matter. It's also why Kawasaki opted for a supercharger in the H2 series, as the power curve is much closer to something naturally aspirated; you just get a lot more of it.
Thats why turbo bikes only serve two purposes: fun project builds and highway missiles. Harleys have probably the largest turbo scene, and thats because they suck at cornering already, so you're not taking much away from their capability as a bike. On the other hands, harleys are great for the highway, and adding a turbo can make riding in a straight line that much more enjoyable. Turbos are not something you add for performance, you add them because you want to build something different.

I want to get a mid-60s Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser that's in rough shape, pull the 330 and use it as a parts engine for my F85's 330 (or if it has the 400, sell the engine for parts if it's thrashed or as a long block if it runs good) and put a tuned 6.0 Vortec in it. Sure, not as big boy powerful as a proper performance LS, but the pre-2007 iron block 5.3 and 6.0 truck LSs respond to tuning and bolt ons pretty decently while staying stone cold reliable. Slap a Holley EFI system on them and be that one guy with a station wagon that's way too powerful for its own good.
Motorcycles can be surprisingly quick, even my first (1998 Yamaha Virago XV250) only has 20HP and is perfectly fast enough for around town and back roads - highway is another story yet that's just another reason to take the scenic route.

hey Bladed, heres an idea that you can split across a few videos, top 5 or top 10 motorcycles of the different groups like the cruiser, touring, dual-sport (what I'm interested in getting rn), sport, scooter, cafe racer, and mopeds or whatever
Cars are just a better and easier platform for modding, i. e; there's more you can do without putting yourself in danger, and it's often easier, mostly just because cars have 4 wheels, and you know, stability, grip, more safety and so on.
Ngl im a car guy and have never had much interest in bikes but watching this was extremely entertaining and I was not expecting to enjoy it so much. Keep up the sick vids bladed 🎉🎉😊
It's not about just power, it's power to weight ratio. Motorcycles are weigh about 1/10th-1/5th of a supercar So they can achieve similar performance with 1/10th-1/5th of the power
11:46 I know this is a very old argument but in my opinion as a car and bike guy I don’t agree with the loud bikes save lives statement. Sound travels mostly in the way it is directed so unless you have some weird pipe that points forward people will only hear it when you pass them and not before you pass them. So to sum it up: “Loud pipes save lives” is bullshit.
With a basic Miata being easily $10k nowadays, MR2s and stuff getting more expensive too, it’s definitely a good option to be a gear head through Motorcycles. It’s so much cheaper for the most part and I feel it’d be easier to work on yourself.
Regular car reviews did a video on a turboed motorcycle Honda did(I think that's the brand) the one thin he said is that turbocharger turns it into a deathtrap as it's tempting you to push it
I feel like if you plan to go balls to the wall with forced induction on a motorcycle, you might as well strap a blue light back to the back to mimic TRON given you'll be going so fast to leave an afterimage lmao
Been watching you since around 2019 when I was going to driving school, loved your videos then and I can safely say that you’ve been a huge influence on how I drive and treat cars these days for which I’m very grateful! I stopped watching your videos at some point (dunno why, yt just stopped recommending them to me for some reason) but when I came back around a month ago I was really surprised that you’re also getting into the motorcycle content at the same time as I got my moto license😅. Anyways, keep up the good work, love your videos and hope you make some more educational stuff for young riders out there!
I miss my FXDR some days but love my bagger 🔥🔥 by the way, your point about getting older is spot on. I prefer my Road Glide ST “performance bagger” build because of the way I ride. I post my stuff too but I’m a pee on lol great video, brother!
ayyy, i actually came here from a Fortnine video lol its all the power to weight! HP don't matter if your weight class is comparable to a dump truck. Love the video, and love the bikes! just about done rebuilding my bike from every bolt down and while this ones factory parts, your giving me bad ideas for my main dirt bike! I've definitely noticed that with bikes its a lot more of "you like bikes? so do i! what's your..." and you learn out of it, a few car people i talk too its more "why would you do__ instead of just___?" sometimes feel more status than pure enjoyment (everyones different but i've seen both lol). The best one i know so far at least near me is the offroad racing scene, we're all just happy to be ridding and help each other out even on the track mid race sometimes. Again amazing stuff, ill be surprised if anyone reads this far XD
An old colleague of my asked his buddy why his scooter was hold together with duct-tape. (Not the framework) he didn't say anything but in a corner the turbo kicked in and then he understand why it was in that condition. Cafe racers if done properly it looks good and saves a lot of weight. Sound saves lives, if you can't hear it then people won't know you're there
I was chuckling a bit while watching this video. My dad has two GSXR 1000's. A street bike that he recently installed a super charger onto and a 1/4 mile drag bike with nitrous. And I think one or both of them have an aftermarket exhaust. Actually the drag bike doesn't really have much of anything for an exhaust pipe now that I think of it. Following bladed's advice he told me the other day that as a biker you should treat everyone around you as if they are trying to kill you.
The last take is pretty wild from my perspective (i only ride dirtbikes) as its common place for people to put an fmf or a pro circuit exhause on their bikes
People forget power to weight ratio is a thing, when you have more weight you meed more power to accelerate that weight. It can become a vicious cycle, because in the quest for more power you would need more weight(bigger engine components, more parts for reinforcement) which require more power.
Bro, I have very weak motorcycle. Although, the fact it is weak saved my 18 years old ass so many times. Upgrading motorcycle really seems like something fun to watch and I love Yammie noob's crazy builds but damn I could not see myself doing that. But car on the other hand...
Oh I too prefer slip ons or just stock exhaust over a full system. I hate when I hear loud v twin cruisers. Like they sound ok stock when they're not blowing out your ear drums, but when they are they just sound like piercing farts. Like after getting into motorcycle I started to question why car onlies call i4 fart machines when they're no where near as bad as one cylinders or low revving cruiser v twins. Btw I'm not calling all v twins on this because those like the sv650's just sound amazing. Speaking of which I'm thinking of maybe getting one as my first bike, they're so cheap and reliable, and with a restrictor for a2 license they're just perfect as a first bike, with like just a little more added weight over something like a ninja 300.
There is indeed a point where loudness of exhaust gets excessive. Buddy of mine had a Honda Shadow 1100 with shotgun pipes on it, thing would give you a headache if you were near it for more than a couple minutes. I try to get my exhaust just loud enough to be heard from a distance for safety reasons in traffic, but I draw the line if it gets loud enough to cause me issues. Had to put aftermarket exhaust on my '81 Suzuki because its pipes rusted out, but it was so quiet you couldn't hear the engine when cruising at 60 mph. Pulled the baffles out, and its a little bit on the loud side now, but not bad enough to cause me issues on my 70 mile daily commute.
non-car guys don't understand that cars that make let's just say 180 hp still have to haul around the car itself, while motorcycles only have to haul around 2 wheels and an engine
I just tend to race replica on my bikes. I don’t ride cruisers so when I get performance parts, I order two stickers one for each side and obviously on the fairing or the fender or I want them. That’s just my personal thing. The stickers are parts that have.
The thing about loud pipes save lives is that u dont really hear bikes coming towards you only away from you. people have finally begun taking their bikes out where i live and i dont notice them untill they are next to me most of the time.
You just keep shooting me down bro lol. I’ve got a gs1100g that I’m doing a super cafe racer build with modern electronics. That said, it’s just a project and I’ll likely never even ride it on the streets.
What's holding you down? If it's an FI conversion, use a dedicated ECU (at least a Microsquirt but limited capabilities, recommend a FuelTech with that screen doubling as a dash, Haltech, Link can do too) and depending on your crank trigger pattern it might just need a cam sensor for individual cylinder injection/ignition. Retrofit a Hall effect sensor on the crank trigger for a cleaner signal - not required but helpful! For throttle bodies the Yamaha e-throttle (YCC-T) would be great, but modding it to fit your intake port spacing can be troublesome, what size carbs does it have? (Might be better to use the 2006+ R6 ones instead of the huge R1's)

I have grown up to the point where simplicity is better than complexity I actually get stress migraines from things being too complex if I had a bike I would keep it simple even if I could mod my dream car just some simple upgrades new rims better tires improved improved suspension and maybe a light HP upgrade but other than that flashy isn't always better
That bit about the wheels is why I won't use tire shine stuff like Armor All on them. I'm even careful when I wash my bike. Nothing with a coating goes near my tires.
I think the main reason people keep wheels stock is because of all the hardware that covers wheels. Forks, swingarms, brakes, sprockets, belts, and exhaust all are in front of your wheels, blocking basically all but the rim. With cars all that is behind the wheel, you see the full face, unobstructed. So the style is more important, because it is just more visible.
Being a car guy gone bike its hard to go back to cars for straight line speed and thrills when youre absolutely slapping nearly all cars at 150hp or so for like 5-10k
That little section about bad drivers hit home after the tiny accident I had a month ago. :) Yep. You can have a loud rotary.. Doesn't matter. They will still do the fucked up shit.
Fun fact: the whole 'loud pipes saves lives" doesn't work when the sound comes out from the back of the vehicle. In order for this to work, your exhaust needs to be pointed to the sides of the bike.
Power to weight ratio is what makes bikes bikes. A "measly" fz/mt-09 (115hp at crank, used ones go for ~6-8k USD) does 0-60 in 2.95 seconds. That is a lot of zoom for little $$ compared to cars which can do the same.
The problem with “loud pipes save lives” is that your exhaust noise ricochets off of everything and nobody can actually tell where the source of the noise is. You are just a moving speck in a cloud of obnoxious noises, if anything you’re just making the drivers around you more aggressive with a loud exhaust. Loud pipes don’t save lives, they paint a target on your back.
People who scoff at (comparatively) low HP numbers on low weight vehicles don't consider PWR (Power to Weight Ratio). They also don't consider power gains in percentage. Which admittedly is less of a consistent performance comparison. Using percentages is a good way of gauging performance gains against your own build. PWR comparisons are good to judge between other builds/vehicles. The HP on my turbo miata is 295hp. Stock HP is 140. That's a gain of 110%. My car is fast for a miata, but not fast for a bike. The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX has a PWR of .241. My "fast" miata has a PWR of .126. The Ninja has more than double my PWR. It would smoke me. For comparison, a 2016 mustang, with 435hp has a PWR of .116, meaning my miata has more power per weight than the mustang GT, despite the car having more than 100 more HP than I do. The car just weighs 3705lbs. That's 1373 more pounds of mass the engine of the mustang needs to move, compared to my 2332lb circuit tracer. Weight plays a huge role in performance. Far more than the average enthusist gives credit. Your average bike weighs about 500lbs. To edge out my car, the Ninja would only need to make 64.76HP. Those are pitiful numbers for a car, but for a bike, that power will fly past most vehicles on the road. When in doubt, "weight reduction bro"
I love Dusrbin Fairings. Not just the appearance of them, but the performance & efficiency gains are well worth the crosswind struggles to me. Have you seen the concept Dustbin Fairing art, including Fulcrum Sprint Dustbin Racer? Then theres sport bikes with aftermarket canards and downforce wings replacing mirrors. Sadly, Airtech-streamlining is going out of business, because he's retiring. But you can find or make your own fairings. And also putting active aero on a bike. And aftermarket windscreens for better airflow over your helmet.
The complications of removing a motorcycle wheel might be a factor. Car wheel: lug nuts. Motorcycle wheel: lots of things in the way, especially in the rear.
3400lb on a vette vs a Honda CBR300 which is 350lbs. Even a slower bike is a tenth of the weight as a sports car. So whatever horsepower the bike is, multiply that by around 8 to 10. That’s a good way to relate the power/weight to a car. So a 20hp tiny bike is still just as fast as a Honda civic. Now imagine what a 300hp bike is capable of.
Bikes are fractions lighter than cars. They will pick up speed much quicker than any car. The only thing not helping enough are the tires. Want faster acceleration? Buy wider curved tires. I mean 12"+ wide with a low angle curve or wider. Additionally if you could have 2 wheels in the back you would have more stability. 2 in the front? Better steering. 2 in the back? Better grip. 4? Now you have a quad. Personally I'd rather have a bike that fits my personality and meets my needs.

Love the Content and how you give honest opinions unlike other automotive channels which are rather i would say people pleasers or for affirmation seekers!

"Loud pipes saves lives"
-People who don't know about doppler effect
Enjoyed the video, agree with all of those.
You can change wheels though mostly on older motorcycles or on motorcycles that use the same kind of suspension, it won't do much difference as long as the wheel axle is well made.
crazy how we can see the progression of bladed's opinions on cars and now bikes though his youtube channel. It's super interesting to see. Keep being you, bladed!
Honestly, a lot of the car community has become so toxic that you have to find somewhere you can still have fun and burn gas.
@@fordaith Yeah. I hope by the time I get a fun car, its not completely dead...
I've been having those sleeper dreams, too. Like, Coyote swap a Ford Flex and put it on a suspension with a half in drop. You have no idea how happy that would make me. I miss when car culture was accessible and just....fun. I hope what happened to cars doesn't happen to bikes.
Meanwhile, I want to put turbo in-line six with like 400 horsepower in a Flex.
Hey man, as a wise man once said, the Turbo Busa is the best beginner bike to get
turbo busa smart car is best miata
Motorcycles can be surprisingly quick, even my first (1998 Yamaha Virago XV250) only has 20HP and is perfectly fast enough for around town and back roads - highway is another story yet that's just another reason to take the scenic route.
Another point regarding turbos, the only bike I know of that even has a dedicated turbo kit is the Yamaha R7.
suzuki hayabusas and some harleys also have turbos
@@hackerbot809 I didn't know that about Harleys, but I was aware that there are turbo kits for Hayabusas. I also remember hearing something about a turbo conversion for the H2, but to my knowledge it never materialized.
hey Bladed, heres an idea that you can split across a few videos, top 5 or top 10 motorcycles of the different groups like the cruiser, touring, dual-sport (what I'm interested in getting rn), sport, scooter, cafe racer, and mopeds or whatever
Cars are just a better and easier platform for modding, i. e; there's more you can do without putting yourself in danger, and it's often easier, mostly just because cars have 4 wheels, and you know, stability, grip, more safety and so on.
Slip on exhaust changed my entire bike in the best way possible, more aggressive, louder across the entire tachometer, in a good way.
Ngl im a car guy and have never had much interest in bikes but watching this was extremely entertaining and I was not expecting to enjoy it so much. Keep up the sick vids bladed 🎉🎉😊
It's not about just power, it's power to weight ratio.
Motorcycles are weigh about 1/10th-1/5th of a supercar
So they can achieve similar performance with 1/10th-1/5th of the power
Regular car reviews did a video on a turboed motorcycle Honda did(I think that's the brand) the one thin he said is that turbocharger turns it into a deathtrap as it's tempting you to push it
Mate you put that “Loud Pipes Saves Lives” argument in the ground so well while still being respectful. This is why I love your vids.
I started on rockets so I rip it through the mountains of PA in my stage 2 bagger and it’s super fun. And I hop on my Ram with the fam to do to dad stuff. Love it. I post my stuff too but I’m a pee on lol great video, brother!
Can you make a video about your experience with biking? Tips for a newcomer to bikes? Your honest opinion on the hobby, etc.?
At 9:00 I love the subnatica concept art keep that coming one of the best games out there
Slip-ons are the way to go for bikes. Most factory headers are well optimized, but factory mufflers are usually too quiet. So a slip-on it is.
I legit agree with every single point that you made except for the exhaust mod. Love the Video
6:45 that looks pretty sick, but it also looks uncountable as hell
ayyy, i actually came here from a Fortnine video lol
its all the power to weight!
Honestly i know barely anything about bikes but i'm all for the blending of the 2 keep up the good stuff 😈
The last take is pretty wild from my perspective (i only ride dirtbikes) as its common place for people to put an fmf or a pro circuit exhause on their bikes
My Problem is that a Turbo-Upgrade costs at least 6k in Germany to be legal which is just stupid.
I have a 12 hp vespa and satisfied with a 25 hp bike. But 100 hp on a bike 🤯
People forget power to weight ratio is a thing, when you have more weight you meed more power to accelerate that weight.
It can become a vicious cycle, because in the quest for more power you would need more weight(bigger engine components, more parts for reinforcement) which require more power.
Rotary swapped bike should be a thing. Light, high revving, compact and fairly simple. Plus. They take premix lol
That's the cool thing about bikes most mods you see serve a performance increase including just riding comfort upgrade.
Bro, I have very weak motorcycle. Although, the fact it is weak saved my 18 years old ass so many times. Upgrading motorcycle really seems like something fun to watch and I love Yammie noob's crazy builds but damn I could not see myself doing that. But car on the other hand...
number 6. massive chassis mounted wing
I really want to see LS swap honda accord that will be Beautiful
My dirtbike has around 38 horsepower… it tops out at 120, but it’s got insane torque… bike are insane with such little power
non-car guys don't understand that cars that make let's just say 180 hp still have to haul around the car itself, while motorcycles only have to haul around 2 wheels and an engine
Bladed : uses a sea emperor picture to illustrate disgusting monster
Literally anyone who played Subnautica : excuse me sir but *WHAT THE FUCK*
Why?
@@ruikazane5123 is just that I’ve got a turbo suv build going and bladed hates suvs and now he’s hating on cosmetic motorcycle builds lol. I know it’s all in fun but damn
@@deltacharlieecho4732 no shit lmao the blades are pretty sharp...what SUV is that? Diesel, gas or corn?
@@ruikazane5123 I’m building a turbo e83 x3 into a Swiss Army knife fun car that can do everything from Drift in rwd to track attack in awd.
@@deltacharlieecho4732 Sounds good. At least not as hard as putting the new NSX motor in a CRX (before Del Sol) and Subaru AWD drivetrain. I have to move countries to do anything though...my FZR400 can't realistically get going in this POS place, no tracks or strips and no good shops. Hope you're in a better position!
That early Gran Turismo music hit a nostalgia itch i wasnt prepared for.
3 words: power to weight
the fact that bladed switched to bike content got me hooked back!
Can you do one on what your favorite classic car says about you with the vw beetle. Love your content, ride safe
MORE MOTORCYCLE CONTENT PLEASEEEEE
Being a car guy gone bike its hard to go back to cars for straight line speed and thrills when youre absolutely slapping nearly all cars at 150hp or so for like 5-10k
Your supercharger on the corvette has more displacement then my mini cooper
That little section about bad drivers hit home after the tiny accident I had a month ago. :) Yep. You can have a loud rotary.. Doesn't matter. They will still do the fucked up shit.
Fun fact: the whole 'loud pipes saves lives" doesn't work when the sound comes out from the back of the vehicle. In order for this to work, your exhaust needs to be pointed to the sides of the bike.
I don’t have much of an interest for motorcycles but I watched the whole thing to support you
First entry: I can relate, I've seen irl a drag bike (Turbo Hayabusha 600 WHP) do a HORRIFIC crash
Power to weight ratio is what makes bikes bikes. A "measly" fz/mt-09 (115hp at crank, used ones go for ~6-8k USD) does 0-60 in 2.95 seconds. That is a lot of zoom for little $$ compared to cars which can do the same.
Couldn’t agree more - it’s all about power to weight ratio
Bladed, if I may tempt you with a slice of brazillian car culture, I think you should try looking into Baja/Rally Beetles and VW Brasilias
Hey Bladed I see you got the down -n- dirty GA Tags on your rides. I love your content, & being a GA guy myself.
*TURBO LAG ON DE MOTORCYCLLEEE*
The delay before the spool will be final thing most people hear before going straight to heaven 💀
@@BladedAngel oh absolutely! i'd call it the *turnaround*, because it's the one thing you can never do again if you sit on that baby!
Damn you caught me off guard mentioning v6 accord. I drive a FBO 2013 accord coupe v6 with a 6 speed manual.
I used to have a turbo R1 making nearly 350hp. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever been on
Bikes have gnarly power to weight ratios in comparison to cars, that's why doing certain mods on bikes turn them into literal death machines.
bLaDeD!!!! how many bikes do you even have???
All of them?????
Bladed YammieNoob collab when?
Next video title “ why I went with the tts supercharger kit “
I love Dusrbin Fairings. Not just the appearance of them, but the performance & efficiency gains are well worth the crosswind struggles to me. Have you seen the concept Dustbin Fairing art, including Fulcrum Sprint Dustbin Racer? Then theres sport bikes with aftermarket canards and downforce wings replacing mirrors. Sadly, Airtech-streamlining is going out of business, because he's retiring. But you can find or make your own fairings. And also putting active aero on a bike. And aftermarket windscreens for better airflow over your helmet.
Oh, and vintage fairings like Vetter.
Oh, and will your LS swapped Sleeper have exhaust cutout valves to bypass the extra mufflers & resonators?
The complications of removing a motorcycle wheel might be a factor. Car wheel: lug nuts. Motorcycle wheel: lots of things in the way, especially in the rear.
I love Cafe builds. like frfr so much❤
…..Turbo Busa
Yep, got to be insane to ride one of those.
Some cosmetic mods that I like to do on bikes are fender delete kids and smaller turnsignal.
There's a guy in a local MC around where I live that runs twin turbos on his 1800cc Harley.
Bikes to cars: "look what they have to do to mimic a fraction of our power"
