The direction car design is going is actually scary. Even just the aesthetic design. It’s a move towards a more corporate design, it basically reinforces the “ideal future” where people get up, go to work, and go home all with a smile on their faces. Aka: corporate drones
Yeah, it's literally corporate propaganda...I'm out ngl. 2-wheeled revolution. As Car Companies fail me over and over again, Motorcycle Companies like Triumph, Royal Enfield, Yamaha, Indian and so on, are doing the opposite. Simplified, Prices stabilized, features increased, and customer satisfaction kept at high priority Next car I'm thinking about? @@BladedAngel If you can, try getting your hands on some sort of what I call "commie cars". Basically import some sort of car from former Eastern Bloc, you'll be delighted to see their 20-year obsolescense even to their own times. For starters I suggest either Fiat 126p or Skoda 120. Both will surprise you with their rear mounted engine and all the other nitpicks they have.
Nah you're not alone in this. A lot of this is horrible. People who think that companies won't do anything or everything they can to increase their income at your expense are fools.

Wonder if it's possible for another company to take advantage of the void that will be created. Like their market pitch is going to be "this car won't have bloatware" or something. Unfortunately, that only becomes a strong pitch once this whole thing cross into real uncanny territory. Like a car that locks you inside and you can't get out until you whip out your card.

Some electronics are helping us, like seat adjustment or opening windows. But others dumb us down and take away from the experience. Why a driver is even needed then. Soon if this shit continues we will live in a Wall-e scenario. For eg these warning signs to warn you and preventing you from opening door if someone goes by your door. I've driven one vehicle with lane keep assist (2020 volvo xc90) and that shit started bugging out on me in a construction zone when it began to track the old lane markings instead of the temporary ones. I never had any issues maintaining my lane until I drove a car with a possessed steering wheel
We need to boycott companies that do this. The only reason car companies are doing this is because they think people will just accept it. Fight back, let them know that we won't accept it. We should also write to politicians to pass laws against paywalling in appliances/cars. Im okay with paying subscriptions for streaming, but not on my car.
I don’t think laws should prohibit any of what they’re doing. It should be as simple as when the salesman says that your cars remote start is a monthly subscription (Toyota) you walk out and keep driving your old car. (Not saying you just using it as a generality).
@connerdesomething6218 Unfortunately there are a lot of people who don't think that way, but that doesn't mean they should be taken advantage of. It screws everyone else (even us car enthusiasts) over in the long run. So yes, we need regulations.
The trouble is, we're enthusiasts. The car companies are counting on people with high stress six figure jobs who can afford to drop $50,000 on a fashion statement car and are willing to pay $200/mo to have it read their tweets for them as they commute, and they aren't boycotting.
When I first saw a video of a Tesla being opened remotely from the dealership to be repo’d, I was immediately horrified. People always said “oH jUsT MaKe yOuR pAyMeNtS” neglecting the fact that this could be abused by bad actors trying to steal your car. Imagine someone pretending to be you, they have your info and only connect to an agent through live chat and suddenly they get access to your car. It’s become insane how little control we have over the things we buy now a days.
I remember once a video came out of the UK where a Mercedes was stolen by a hacker that was able to clone the fob from outside the house, unlocked the car, and just drove away. It's already here.
Stuff like this is why I want a manual transmission car with doors that require the real key, don't have a ton of useless crap, and something that is easy and simple to repair. I should go buy an older car 😂

It is funny that you mentioned riding bikes in the subscription bit yet KTM deactivates the heated grips, quick shifter, cruise control and a couple extra things on their motorbikes after a couple hundred miles and unless you go back and pay another grand to reactivate them you can't use the parts that are already installed on the bike. So yeah, even bikes heading into that direction

For the subscription thing, some states (or at least mine) already made them illegal. So long as the function costs nothing to the manufacturer post sale, like heated seats.

My insurance went up by $120 due to the number of accidents increasing in my area. I called and asked how I can lower my premium and they told me that if I installed a vehicle tracker that detected my speed that it’ll lower back down. I told them no and that I’ll be going with a different insurance company. Like I’m not giving up my freedom to enjoy my sports car and I shouldn’t have to pay higher due to how other people’s bad driving.
Not having anything to hide doesn't negate the fact that many people don't want companies spying on them. I don't do anything illegal inside my house, but I still wouldn't let someone install cameras to watch me
This is not new. All it takes is for a problem intersection in your ZIP code. When I say problem, I am talking frequency, not severity, of accidents. Just moving a mile away can have a huge effect on your premium. But, the thing is, law of large numbers, the insurer has determined with quite a bit of accuracy the likelihood of you being in a crash. Remember, it doesn't have to be your fault in order for them to still be out money. And, the most basic principle of insurance is spread of risk. As such, everyone shares in everyone else's joy and misery. It's a fact of life. With respect to the telematics, I detest them and will pay more (really, forgo a discount) not to have them. What driving they deem risky (speeding, braking, accelerating, etc) doesn't necessarily mean it's unsafe. I do all of those things to extreme degrees and I can do them with a skill much greater than the person doing rolling stops at 5 mph. I voiced my displeasure with this when it was being test marketed (it was around mid-2000s), pointing this out. I also pointed out how the data collected could be used in ways that border on bad faith. While that ultimately did not dissuade them from implementing it, I at least tried to advocate for my clients. At least people still have the option.
The worst part about paywalling is that I'm sure some people are actually gonna do it just to flex it, then companies will see that there are idiots out there and just keep doing it
You're exactly correct with many of these. This is a reason why many people hate on EVs: It's not the EV part they hate, they just hate the nickel-and-diming aspect of it.
I hate the EV part too though, they're built like smartphones in a world where phone batteries die forever in less than 10 years and require replacement.
I recently traded in a 2019 Ford Ranger XLT for a 2013 Ford Fusion SE, and personally feel this has been an improvement in every single way despite technically being a downgrade. When I bought my Ranger, I was subconsciously seeking to buy the most expensive and impressive car I could afford. Price wasn’t a factor when I decided to get a fusion, although it definitely made my decision much easier to make. I have buttons instead of a touch screen now and my driving assists feel like they aid in my efforts on the road rather than take them over while providing a false sense of security. I feel like we’re past the peak of technological advancements actually improving cars. At this point, manufacturers are only adding these “improvements” to increase profits
This is a trend going on in all industries, but it's scary and dangerous in car industry. It causes frustration, and frustrated drivers are dangerous. Imagine your AC subscription running out in the middle of a long family journey
Don't forget about that horsepower subscription Mercedes is doing on their electrics. Not long now till you only get 1/4th of the listed horse power until you pay for one of the multiple subscription packages
So I have to buy four engines and then put them inside of a car just to get the horsepower from one engine itself if you figured out how to remove the system which makes it so your engine does not know how to engine
Unrealistic scenario in modern world. There are no older cars - there are pre-owned or simply said used. The moment demand on used cars will drastically increase, it will drive up demand and prices on parts and services, which will push up the prices of new cars. And if the new cars will not sell at all - this the sign of recession. Please buy new cars (according your budget) and not follow some utopia stuff.
@@mogamer4511 When you'll really have this scenario, then make a decision. For now - yes, buy new car if budget permits. Many cars are equipped with Sat Radio and need to pay Sirius subscription... nothing wrong with it.
If Tesla got even a bit of noticeable backlash for their subscription services, I doubt we would be seeing things progress the way they are. All the manufacturers saw people not care when Tesla started doing this, so they followed suit. The only thing fallacious about the slippery slope is the fact that some call it a fallacy. EDIT: on the car hacking side, if someone has physical access to a device, there's not much you can do to keep them from gaining control over it. This makes securing the nightmare that is modern vehicle software essentially impossible, it's more a matter of 'when' not 'if' someone obtains the know-how to get into the system and make it theirs.
It's actually easier than you think. Most people don't care about stupid tablets, infotainments and etc they just want car and less of that rubbish that gives you extra weight. The Self-Reposessing feature Ford is developing terrifies me simply because I can absolutely see the technology be abused! Say if you posted a spicy meme or criticized the government. Even if you were on time with payments!
It literally locks the doors therefore if you're inside hopefully you can still use the controls because you need to literally blow up the transmission and then try to bash a window and get out and you want to break the transmission first if it even possible so you're not trying to squeeze out of a windshield or window while going at 40 miles an hour or something You know and also hopefully you don't have anyone else in the car which is just so happens to be stuck in there with you
This just makes me all the more appreciative how simple my car is compared to the majority of other modern cars. No paywalls to worry about, and the manufacturer even states in the owner's manual that they don't care what you do to the car. (Unlike EV's and other more gadget heavy cars). As long as OEM parts are used to modify the car, the warranty will stay intact. But otherwise go nuts.
@mo gamer The Mitsubishi Mirage. The owner's manual only discourages modifying the car or racing it for the sake of keeping the warranty intact (5 - 10yr warranty is pretty good after all) and general liability issues. Re-reading it, I accidentally exaggerated on the "actively stating" part. In comparison to the Nissan Rogue (using it as an example since it's the only other owner's manual I read), the owner's manual actively discourages the car owner from making ANY kind of performance modifications to the car in general.
so what your saying is me telling my parents (even though I'm a grown adult) that me trying to get a Silvia over a modern car is a good thing? thanks bladed

I do professional detailing (paint correction, ppf, ceramic) and new cars from the dealerships have some of the worst scratching in the clear coat of any cars we get, sometimes requiring a full three stage paint correction just because the dealerships use rough bristle brushes to clean the cars and ruining them in the process. And if buying a new car, NEVER get dealer installed ceramic coating. It’s not a true ceramic, just a paint sealer and will do nothing for your car and you’ll pay extra for it, spend the money and get it professionally done or watch TH-cam videos and do it yourself with the proper product. About fake engine noises, personally, I enjoy the sound of loud whirring electric motors. Automakers should keep that, it sounds cool, or at least better than fake sounds. For regular cars, keep them quiet, and for enthusiasts remove sound deadening and let them machinery sing.
I totally agree. I only drive classics for this reason. My family has cars from 2009 and 2011. Compared to modern cars, they aren't a whole lot different. 5:59 The "fake engine noise" feature was created by automakers when people thought their electric vehicles were not functioning due to the lack of noise they're used to hearing from traditional combustion engines. Think of it as a nightlight for people literally afraid of their cars staying silent. Also, I have no idea why an internal combustion car would ever need this.
A good example as things being more of a pain to repair, think of how many belly pans are either just in the way to catch oil or outright blocking the drain bolt

Do you have something to hide, related to your speed, by not wanting to install the tracker? Or 'enjoy your car' means 'overspeed'?
Not having anything to hide doesn't negate the fact that many people don't want companies spying on them. I don't do anything illegal inside my house, but I still wouldn't let someone install cameras to watch me
@@AK.__ Definitely means overspeed.

No paywalls to worry about, and the manufacturer even states in the owner's manual that they don't care what you do to the car. (Unlike EV's and other more gadget heavy cars). As long as OEM parts are used to modify the car, the warranty will stay intact. But otherwise go nuts.
Dont leave us hanging like that. What car is it?
@mo gamer The Mitsubishi Mirage. The owner's manual only discourages modifying the car or racing it for the sake of keeping the warranty intact (5 - 10yr warranty is pretty good after all) and general liability issues. Re-reading it, I accidentally exaggerated on the "actively stating" part. In comparison to the Nissan Rogue (using it as an example since it's the only other owner's manual I read), the owner's manual actively discourages the car owner from making ANY kind of performance modifications to the car in general.

1998 corolla. Got airbags, got power steering, got electric windows, got decent mpg, cheap to buy, cheap to diy, simple, some models got ac
The more I see of the new cars, the more I love mine. I dread the day should something happen to my car and I'm forced to get another with all that's going on in car culture.
If I was president I would lock up the person who first pitched the 'pay for heated seats monthly' idea for life. I'd pass a special law specifically to do it.
But Bladed you will own nothing and be happy 😅
Not if I dip n join the 2-wheel revolution, CRANKS HOG INTENSELY
Or just buy a Classic Car, yeah I'll probably do that as well.
I hate that phrase so much because it's so often used by very confused people who employ it to shut down advocates for socialism and uphold the very same runaway capitalism that they're complaining about
@@BladedAngel inb4 the lunatics pushing for this stuff turn their eyes to the motorcycle industry...
The End of Ownership: You Will (Not) Own Anything
As a car mechanic I really feel it in terms of complexity.
At the moment I try to get into a truck shop because of the space you get to work on these.
And if that doesn’t work, why not joining the dark side and get into a support role for the development of vehicles.
As a 22 year old car enthusiast sigh... Bladed man... I'm just trying to find a HR 350Z to enjoy and turn some wrenches on man. I absolutely loath the car market in it's current state, especially with all this damn greed. That's why we gotta stick to older cars. Them folks can drive their boring ass Teslas and pay to drive garbage for all I care. I'm just trying to drive and buy my dream cars (05 Evo, 07 350Z, 09 R8, and 99 Type R) without spending freaking Lamborghini costs thanks to rising prices.
Hey Bladed, random Brazilian here man, and i agree with you 100%, the more you show me this stupid market trends, more i love my 89 Opala.
Modern cars have way too much tech anyway. So much weight and cost could be saved just by putting the emphasis on being a good driver, instead of nannying the driver.
But then I see the average soccer mom in her SUV and I realize why those features are there.
Other than that, I have chosen to stick to simpler and older cars that I can work on and keep on the road. I don't care if I pay the price in gas money or parts, at least I don't get robbed.
anti-lock brakes are great but other than that there are so many technological features that are just straight up not needed. for example, blind spot detection. my brother in christ, it's y'alls fault that there even is a blind spot to begin with, so now I have to lean to the right to look around that fat ass B pillar that's totally going to come in handy when I don't get T-boned
@@blitzn00dle50 every car has a blind spot? unless we all drive 2 seater mini cars. any car that can fit a family of 4 has a blind spot. personally i like cameras more than blind spot dection tho. just seeing is nicer
I remember the Citroën 2CV or the Bettle ads main argument being that these cars were easy and quick to repair. Guess what they were bangers.
Constantly contemplating buying the oldest car I can afford and fixing it up
My current car is already 32 years old though...
At least you can fix an old car.
@@atomic... That's for sure
Its why I'm going pre 2010 for my first car.
@@atomic... I'd be careful with early 2000s cars. That's when they started adding a lot of electronics. Early 2000s electronics were not quite reliable yet, so they're all breaking down right now.
As a European car mechanic every new car needs to be paired with the replacement part, even the battery. They just don't give people a chance to work on their own cars!
What happened to the customer's power? Well, it's a pretty complex topic with a lot of facets and stuff but if I had to pin it on any one thing, I'd say it was when any customer who dared speak out against a company - regardless of whether or not they were justified - were branded entitled or a karen.
Ongezellig enjoyer spotted
Paying for AC seems a bit much but I totally agree, I can already see in. The near future where people play for themes for their cars interior lighting/info-tainment
Most cars have ambient lighting and themed screens and I can see it happening the same way it works on consoles/ phones.
Well, if SHTF for the car community, I'll apply for a welder course, buy a desired welder (from what I've read TIG is the best for those delicate kinds of works) and weld my own parts and keep (after I get financially stable to buy them) my commie cars and Mitsu L200.
You're totally right, Bladed Angel. The future is scary for everything.
I think you're forgetting that most sports car buyers aren't knowledgeable "car guys", but just people with a lot of money to spend, that don't really know much more than the numbers of cylinders, horsepower and displacement
Nice vid. I agree on all points except for the remote start, in cold winters (we have a few weeks of -20 here) it's very helpful. Start your car 10 minutes before getting out and you get into ready to drive and warm car
yea but living in canada, the remote start on they key works, no need to put it on your phone
The moment someone has remote control over your car, you don't own jack.
I can just imagine new drivers in the future "bro install this exhaust sound I just found it sounds sick"
The best video I have seen for long!
Been here since 400 subs and I still love you
At the beginning, I thought it was cool the remote ignition and keyless thing. But after seeing the possibilities of stealing, hacking, and the problems. Today, I prefer a physical key by a mile.
I don’t fucking understand how companies go out of their way to make shit things when making the better thing is easier, better, and sometimes cheaper.
Whatever makes them more money. At *all* costs
9:44 imagine my face eating at mcdonald's and watching this after they forgot part of my order💀💀💀
Gotta correct you on fake engine noises, they are good for blind pedestrians, however they can be some other noise like an electric space ship or some other sound. Also the rest of the video is straight facts. 🔥
Sitting here watching this with my wife and yes we ordered food. Yes, they screwed it up. People make it too easy sometimes.
On the subject of fake sounds - I do agree, but with one exception. Most countries require EVs to have some sort of artificial sound so that pedestrians can hear it, and that I understand. What I don't understand is why the NTSB took away my right to set it to the bababooey sound effect on repeat
Getting again the vibes of buying an old car. I like buttons, I like how the whole thing just offline. My only downside is music, but I recently started using earbuds. I can hear the traffic, but can listen to music and make phone calls, without ever worry to stay in the car 'till the end of the song/call.
You cant trick my ears 3:53 that is the mizuhagawa distrivt theme good to see another scarlet nexus fan
