    This is the first Opel I have seen in a long time with personality. I love that it has the front look of the Manta A from the 1970s. My father had one and I still miss it so much. Indeed if that same car was to be reincarnated in Electric form today it would be a best seller. Why not? BMW did it with the Mini and look what happened.
    Also, its great to see how PSA went with the 50KwHr battery - this is the optimal size. The only problem is that this car is too expensive in electric form - far too dear. I suspect that they are trying to throttle the sales due to supply of batteries.

  • @CapitaineK
    @CapitaineK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    It's funny how many are assigning the drawbacks of the Mokka car to PSA while they let Opel a lot of freedom in design and saved them from being whiped out completely.
    First mission was to redesign Opel, give it a new face and image while cutting costs through sharing platforms and tech to be able to sruvive.
    PSA did it with all its brands actually. The second phase consists of greatly upgrading the digital experience of which PSA launched the new generation with the reveal of the DS4.
    Opel will benefit from that too in the next generation of models. Give them some slack, they went from near bankruptcy to swinging out new models including electric ones.

    • @dvseal2455
      @dvseal2455 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thy could have done the same thing under GM if GM bothered to invest and manage the brand properly. They were already heading in a good direction from a design and engineering perspective with their last models before the PSA deal and at the very least the brand was interesting in that way. Now it's just another dull PSA clone which admittedly will likely bring them more sales, but the brand as an identity is dead. Let's not sugarcoat it. I mean, you can see that with a lot of journalists no longer bother to review Opel/Vauxhall cars. If it's dead either way I prefer PSA had left it alone. Also, a PSA "digital experience" is crap and will always be crap. It's worse in 2021 then what Opel were running in 2016. Flashy and cool looking - sure, but it is mostly shit to operate.

      In the Stellantis recently released document both Opel and Peugeot are in the same category, more upmarket compared to Fiat and Citroën considered mainstream.

    Six months ago I bought an "Opel Mokka Ultimate" and I am very pleased with it. I'm 63 years old. To date, I have had countless cars: BMW 318i, Alfa Romeo 156, Opel Corsa GSI, Fiat Barchetta, Volvo S40 2.0 D etc. I made hundreds of thousands of km. in Europe. Therefore, I have the opportunity to compare. I am very pleased to have preferred Mokka. It is very stylish. It has an easy and enjoyable driving. Very responsive car. The interior and exterior design is excellent. Engine-gearbox harmony and safety equipments are great. I recommend it to those who do not have children, though.

    Against the general trend in the car industry Opel reduced the frontal and rear overhangs by 13 cm !
    That's quite impressive and gives the car way better proportions than the one of the predecessor.
    I like the new Opel look in general.

    STOP putting glossy and fake carbon plastic on the interior please, there so many other and better options! And the infotainment system desperately needs a new UI ! Such a big screen and wasting because of that huge black bars on the corners. Opel really, really needs to hire some good UI/UX developers and have them develop a completely new user interface! As for the exterior, it looks awesome!

    • @grigorig8403
      @grigorig8403 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      PSA wont allow to develop new interface till this one will be so outdated that people wont buy buy the car of its reason. They are just trying to make as money as they can by cutting costs everywhere it's possible

  • @mart_en
    @mart_en 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yes, an EV has a very quick acceleration and less noise in the interior.
    But unless the range is at least 300 km at Autobahn speed ( 130 -150 km/h ) they are just a nice toy for inner city use.
    I know that the general agenda wants EV's to be successful but a combustion engine car is still far superior and more comfortable to use at the moment.
    And that will remain like that until the current ranges are at least doubled and the infrastructure of loading stations is spread enough to have a fast access to them at any time, anywhere and at a high speed of loading.

    • @auralstudent2841
      @auralstudent2841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, you said exactly what was on my mind :) No way is an EV worth the extra 5000 to 10000 in upfront price, unless it can at least match combustion engines in range and ease of charging ... which is clearly not the case yet. Plus, a full charge can take 30 minutes ... how long does it take to fully refuel a petrol tank ? 5 minutes at most ?

    In the market for a new car and even if I have been quite anti SUV I have to say this car looks really good.
    Also looking at the leas price its hard to overlook as in Sweden a High spec Mokka would cost me less then a high spec Toyota Yaris and just a bit more then the Corsa. So yeah its really hard to decide what I want for my motorway commuting.

    would have really liked the car for a replacement - but so sad opel decided to go with such small luggage compartement. It kills the practicality of the Mokka. Now we are left with a "high corsa" basically. And no all wheel drive also anymore.

    I bought 2 of these space-craft, auto for my wife manual for me. I have always liked Vauxhalls (Opels in Germany) and this model is no exception. Both can reach 125 m.p.g., and 0 to 60 in 7 seconds. they are striking to look at, and to drive one is a pleasure. There are tons of bells and whistles so download the spec sheet and have a gander. Both of our cars are the Ultimate versions. I thought the wife wouldn't be able to cope, but not so. Their on the road (without insurance) price is around £33;000, not cheap I know but most Lunar Landers justify the price by growling at you. Seriously tho this is one helluva set of wheels, with attention to detail all over. The manual model also has a sport mode for effortless re-entry. I and my family have owned a lot of Vauxhall and Opels over the years, (I am 73. my wife is 68 I think). Who remembers the flutes that Vauxhall Motors used to insert into their Bonnets (Hoods if you hail from across the pond), models like the Cresta; Victor; Velox; Wyvern . Later came the the Vivas (I had the G.T. model of this) and did it fly; Cadet (Opel); Cavalier; Vectra. with the estate versions of them. and of course the G.T.E,s. Vans, what vans, oh yeah of course. The Bedfords, Viva vans, TK Bedfords to name but a few.
    Keep'em cummin Vauxhall/ I eagerly await the next generations generations. Greetings to all from The Isle of Wight.

    Exterior styling I like alot, compared to previous model a real step up! Interior is not so impressive, especially not the infotainment, but as long as it has carplay/androidAuto it is liveable. Just wished for abit more range/speed at the price of the EV. Looking for a second car right now and is thinking EV because of fuel prices but at the same time maybe it wont drive enough kms to justify extra price.

    Thomas, you were very generous in this review, almost that it looks like paid promotion. You were more strict on way better cars.
    I drove this car as a rental (petrol 1.2 3 cylinder) for couple of days and there is no single positive aspect of this car that I could point out. It's just big hard plastic lump on 4 wheels. You skipped usual review on the rear bench, and facts that rear window opens only halfway, there is no light in the back and it is super uncomfortable. Also, not mentioning the way trunk opens is not like you.

      It's happened a bit over the years. I know the Astra H was sold in 3-door form as a Saturn, and that various of the more recent models were part of the Buick range (the Verano was more or less an Astra sedan, then the Regal, the Cascada, and the Encore). To be honest, though, I prefer a lot of American offerings to European ones! Can we swap? Chrysler's lineup is quite old now, so perhaps some Opels will fill out a refreshed range now under the Stellantis umbrella. (You can have a Chrysler Mokka if we can have a Vauxhal / Open 300C ;))

    Opels always look cheap in detail. The hard plastic frame parts with pimples on it, glossy black covers, which always look greasy + cheap looking dull switches, fake glossy carbon fibre....brrr. I always hated that and they still make it that way. I also don't like the front design, the black painted hood and rim design. Is that supposed to be retro? It doesn't fit to the rest of the car.
    But it's cool that Opel got their shit together and are not limited by GM anymore.

      The Black painted Hood or Bonnet is an option.

    Why. Why car design nowadays look like a bubble wrapped foil from inside out? Why the heck color combinations are like coming from 1980š children's comic book?
    With all the respect to Autogefulhl - I could not watch this video - simply because of awful design of this small suv.
    Similarly to "e" BMW Opel too steps to the "let me take this kindergarten drawing and present as design" path.
    Terrible, really terrible looking..

      Subjective! I on the other hand find it very well balanced, having harmonic proportions. It is wide, short in length and rather low for an SUV, which I think is flattering its silhouette, as it provides a sportier look, compared to a flaccid A-Class or a bulky GLA i.e. :D
