I helped my mum buy a puma recently and it's a fantastic car. At 155bhp it's pretty quick and responsive it doesn't handle like a SUV at all and the megabox is amazing. In contrast I now drive a Nissan Qashqai company car (hand me down for the lease) and its boot is only 430 litres compared to the Pumas 450 and unlike the Puma it drives and handles like a P&O ferry!
Love these comparison reviews, and the easy friendly presentation style is brilliant, really entertaining but comprehensive and informative. Two of my favourite motoring journalists - brilliant! As for the cars, like you say it’s hard to find a bad car these days.. For me it’s close but I would go with the Puma - based on the slightly better ride/handling and the practicality in the back!
So we have had a petrol automatic Mokka for 12 months. So the lane control is a pain. Getting in the back is another issue. So kids will be ok but if your an adult you will have issues getting in and out. We have the keyless entry. We have given up on this as it is so temperamental. Then one big issue is when we go to open the car with the key fob. We find the car will not open. The key fob stops working. So we have a trick now to get round this. We have to open and close the boot. Which I am guessing because we have keyless entry it allows us to do this. Then the key fob comes back to life. We can now open the car with the key fob. The car has been back 7 times to the dealer. Still not fixed.
Great review of both cars, if I had my choice I'd have the Ford as it looks better, is more practical and has a proper handbrake which is a nice touch! Having said that both are too expensive for what they are tho' as a second hand buy they'd be better. I'd have happily done without the megabox in the Ford and had a spare wheel instead, tho' I wonder if you could get a spare to fit in that space.
In the video, there is something part-filling the megabox. I am wondering if it is a space saver wheel with a cover over it 🤔. The empty megabox is much deeper than that.

I rented a brand new Mokka for a week recently. It was fun but I found the steering really tiring. Even after switching off all lane assists etc it would constantly want to pull back to centre. The need to pull the wheel down and keep pulling was very wearing, especially after long drives.
it's not an automatic, it's a dual clutch, in US even vw only sells crappy dsgs for performance cars (as it should be) and ford has dropped the powershift years ago (still sells that crap in Europe in almost all models)

Hello, may I ask if the PUMA you tested is the FROZEN WHITE color please? It looks much whiter on the website. Yours looks a much more interesting white, almost creamy. If that was really the frozen white I would definitely consider it.
The Ford Puma is not a bad looking car on the outside just a pity the latest Ford interiors are so dull. Fords best interiors were in the S-Max it was like a space ship sitting in that so spacious and such a great dash with the cool airplane style handbrake, the last mondeo not the current run out Mondeo which has a very dull dash. The C-Max as well as the last Kuga both basically shared the same dash and a great stylish classy dash it was too. Unlike the latest Fords which have all gone very dull. The Opel has a nice dash but looks very dull at the front. Maybe in the metal it looks better. Still I think a Renault Captur is far nicer than either of the two cars here and very reliable too.
Just ordered the mokka gs line manual in full outer black pack without the red accents or red on alloys … looks mean . Looked at Puma but you get more spec as standard on mokka. 👌only prob is expected delivery time 6-8 months 😭
Spent a few days with a Mokka Elite Nav Premium with 130bhp. Tech is really good and engine is excellent for a 1.2 litre. Suspension slightly firm but I like that. Good to drive. The negatives are the really small boot space, lack of room in back seats and lack of height in cabin. Also quite a bit of cheap looking plastic in the lower areas of interior. Is the Ford worth the extra money though?
Hard to say, but one thing I would be confident about is the residuals will be better with Ford. Opel are not liked as a brand by the motor trade in Ireland (having experience of trading my Opel Astra for a Puma). One thing that was glossed over a little in the review is the fuel efficiency of the Puma. I'm getting an average of 5.6l/100km at motorway speeds which is pretty good and off the motorway driving on R roads I'm getting 5.0l/100km, the Mokka will struggle to achieve that. The 48v battery also provides some additional torque when accelerating. I do think the Puma is definitely the drivers car of the two, it has a sweet manual gearbox and the steering is superb. Build quality is a problem, mine has rattles as the passenger door is not properly aligned, so they need to up their game in that department and there are lots of reports of the 12V battery failing. Both cars have a timing belt that is submerged in oil and that would worry me in the long term.
Puma is a good looking car but absolute trash if it comes to drivetrain - with petty 1 liter engines and horrible dual clutch transmissions ford has nothing I would buy today. Opel on the other hand, based on psa platforms with all their flaws is miles ahead if it comes to drivetrain. 1.2 engines are much stronger than fords and torque converter automatics are available even in tiny cars like 208 and can be paired with weaker versions of 1.2 so you don't have to go to top spec to get real automatic transmission. For me the winner is obvious in this one.
Wow lol Fords MULTI award winning 1.0 ecoboost and PSA turbo engine (we all know how there’s no issues with those) Not sure you know what you’re talking about. Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better.
The Puma is too dark inside, too much black.Old-fashioned handbrake. Also has the dreaded rubber camshaft belt.(you have to think of maintenance costs) Chain is best. Also I don't like driving around in a frog.
if i was getting a new car, it would be the new Toyota Yaris Cross as it switches between electric and petrol power seamlessly. It offers lower co2 emissions and improves fuel economy. You can't beat Toyota's excellent reputation for reliability.

Yeah but its cramped and dingey and I don't think it will be as efficient as the full electric Mokka. Toyota must think so too or they wouldn't have introduced the Yaris Cross.
There's nothing funky in a mokka trust me. Front is too soft, rear is too hard, esp is just ALWAYS there. Eat8 is great, better than dsg, but at the end. Nope bad car.

Correct. Our test car did have the optional mini spare wheel in the Megabox, we just didn't get a shot of it on the day.

Lets be honest, on crappy Irish roads bigger wheels and even 2 inches more of clearance is an advantage.

Take away your spare wheel - call the space where it used to be a Megabox .... and advertise it as a unique feature. Wonderful!

There is no question in life to which Vauxhall is the answer. Had one when my car was off the road. Utterly boring and devoid of anything pleasurable.

CHR 2.0 Hybrid is way better than both. Looks sexier, drives better, and more efficient. Also, a lot more reliable than these two.
