As cars get more complicated, packed with distracting gadgets, gaining weight, and skyrocketing price tags... something like this is old-school refreshing.
Agreed. There's something nostalgic about this car that transcends its flaws. On our website Feann gave the car 63/100 verdict and concluded with this: "One could argue that owning a Suzuki Jimny XL is comparable to being a parent; it can sometimes be vexing and troublesome and janky and contradictory. Yet that’s what makes it so endearing."
Hahaha I'm not even half way through this review, and I have to say it's brutally honest. But refreshingly honest. "The cloth seats feel awful..." hahaha I'm thoroughly enjoying this. I'm honestly looking forward to seeing this guy do more reviews
I have had mine as daily driver and adventure sincew 2009. I paid more to get one with rubber mats (no carpet) and steel wheels, wind up windows, no cruise co0ntrol,. no power steer. It is as basic and analogue that anyone can get and I designed her that way, which I think Suzuki prefers as well. Before this 2009 purchsed mew one owner, I had a 1986 vSierra and that was fantastic as well. Your appraisal was not only accurate and fair, warts and all, but the best Jimy Review I have listened to in 13 years. Thankyou. PSX I oftyen hit 140 kph (she gets awqay from me) driving 20 kilometers on fast road to Town.. In my Model she sits firm, no wadle, shimmy or drift, where you point is where she goes and stays until you move again gripping the road firm, hence getting away from me when driving, if it had idiocincracies, I would notice and keep my speed down BUT as I think mindlessly, I look down and too often I am doing 140kph "with more pedal by far, to go". I think this one would do 160kph, 1300 cc VVT. Fautless after 15 years
I have bought a jimny too recently. I live in India. My variant is Alpha MT kinetic yellow dual tone. I've driven it around 4k kms and this is what I feel about this car:- Pros: 1. Very capable off roader. Earlier I was driving 4x2 where sometimes I had to struggle during off roading but off roading in jimny feels way way easier. 2. Compact car. Maneuvering on narrow roads not an issue. 3. Suspension is really good. 4. Body roll over is almost non-existent. 5. Less road presence makes your car look different and with some modifications, people will keep checking out your car. 6. Boot space is adequate. U can put sufficient luggage if u want to go on a trip. 7. Five door system makes it highly practical. Ones who have used 3 door system on gpysy and thar (don't know if those are available in international markets) would understand how tedious and uncomfortable it is to sit in the rear seats. Due to this reason, jimny can actually be used as a primary car. 8. Best 4x4 at this price. Cons: 1. Rear seat belt alarm is annoying. (fixed it by detaching the bus couplers below rear seats). 2. Gearbox is stiff initially and may take time to adjust. 3. Stock tyres and the front grill give a bad look to this car imo. Stock tyres are really thin. From the front, car looks like a toy due to this very reason. Upgrade if possible. Side profile of this car looks great though. 4. This car feels underpowered. No matter what others say, this car won't compete with many on the highways. This might be a factor to many who like to drive fast. There's a lag in acceleration. 5. Turning radius is a bit more. 6. Cabin space inside is not enough for big bulky guys. If you're bit overweight, your arms will be touching the car door and also to the person sitting alongside you in the front. For skinny guys it's not an issue. Car is tall enough so there's enough space for your head also. 7. Under thigh support is not adequate in the rear seats. 8. This car doesn't have proper storage space for basic stuff like bottles, phones etc. It's really bothering.

Under 35K for the Xl 5 door? I paid 40k in NSW for a new 2024 in stock White colour with manual transmission. I priced cars in Newcastle NSW and Sydney. Limited stock and unless your lucky you will wait 12 to 18 months for your order. Sydney City Suzuki had none available in a manual transmission and came in at 39,800 K . There are better city cars for the price. More economical, more boot space, more safety. But you make a good point about the kids - all their friends will be jealous when this plucky little wayfarer picks them up.
I had a close view of this vehicle and found that the rear is about short and from the side view looks odd. The pricing should be reviewed along with the tech details, as the vehicle could do with a turbo along witha1.5 L motor and a 6 speed transmission to give it some boost and cruising speed along the highways in Australia. Maybe the 2025 model can be reviewed to keep the Suzuki owners happy. Management take notice of people's comments.
$35k. Car yards are selling them anywhere between $41k to $50k drive away. The car yards are being selfish here and taking full advantage of the production hold ups. It's not like everyone wants them. I'm waiting a couple of years.
35k plus on roads, due to demand no discounts at the moment, so add about 4k to the price for dealer delivery, rego and stamp duty, a white manual should be 39k white auto 41k more then that tour being ripped off
This is my and my wife`s dream car! We have 2020 3d and really love it. My wife is using it as a city car for herself as the parking is supereasy and it has a nice and high seating position. Of course due to the 4 speed transmission the confort limit is 100kph at most. We got some A/T tires after buying, despite of the fuel increase its visual and road handling got better. 4 doors would be nice for us as we have 2 kids 🙂 Btw we have the retro Suzuki badge installed on the front!
I'm tossing up between one of these and a GWM ute. The GWM is bigger, safer, more powerful and has so much more tech, but the Jimny is definitely charming and just slightly cheaper
I'm actually now leaning more towards the SsangYong Musso. My only issue with it is that ugly front grille and no active cruise, but neither the Jimny, GWM or LDV have that either
Hi all, after some info. I’m looking at buying the 5 door XL ,so chatting to the dealer in the yard I was looking at the chiffon ivory,he happened to mention this was “about $700” more with the black roof compared to the Jungle Green ,no black roof, does this sound correct or was he already jacking up the price. I can see nowhere were it mentioned this in any reviews. Cheers guys.
The three-door used to be priced under $24,000 when it came out in early 2019. How times have changed. www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/2019-suzuki-jimny-australian-price-and-spec-116600/
@@carsales yea true..... market is tough now there are heaps of new players around $35 - $40K price which offer more value for money, more comfort and 7 seats like Mahindra Scorpio, LDV D90, Haval H6, Tank300 etc and as compare to them Jimny XL is quite small and bare bones.
Even if I owned a G63 or Range Rover, I would only use it for shopping and driving around town, and I would never want to drive it off road. If I'm going off road, I'm going in a Jimmy.
Me 2 somebody like Dodge/Stellantis should try and partner up with them and bring some their designs over instead of making all their vehicles electric…
I had a 2000 Suzuki, the car was very reliable. I got a lot of mileage out of it. Is Suzuki ever gonna sell cars in America again please let me know. I would like to buy one they are affordable and reliable. Please let me know where I can buy one in America. Thank you.
Greeting from INdonesia, I hope someday I an have one for roadtrip across Indonesia for which I don't need to worry about road condition ahead. I have Toyota Innova reborn diesel 4x2 now, Previously I have Isuzu Mu-X 4x2 but I always feel unrest whenever I go to a new place because the road can be heavily damaged. in addition, those big car is not suitable to my wife. so this small size, yet capable to go anywhere, would be a suitable one...roadtrip anywhere unleash your spirit !!!
Just ordered one, first time a manufacturer has built something i would be new. Is it perfect no, is it comfortable and durable enough to drive on c class or worse roads innthe country absolutely
@garylab7934 c class is the supposed good roads and what we have in 3 directions for an hour and 1 for half an hour. The smoothest roads in the area are the earth roads these are nicknamed freeways as you can sit on 100km/h with out a kidney belt.
Adapt to your vehicle; that's what a good driver does. This engine is more than capable off-road, what it's designed for. But a Ferrarie if you need Nurburgring.
Always loved the little Jimny but a mild hybrid version of the vehicle's engine is long overdue. With something similar to the 48V hybrid system on the new Toyota diesel engine suitable for the little off-roader. 😎🇦🇺
Hello and thanks for another great review !!!! It’s a great little beast the Jimny !! CAN I ASK WHERE ABOUTS ITS THAT TRACK LOCATED ??? I would love to take my Jimny there thanks
We've asked the guys and they said "they'll come back to us". We think that's code for "it's a secret"... ☹ But we do know it's in Victoria, Australia.
Being from the states ive always loved the Jimney but its near impossible to find one. This also feels very Jeep minus the absurd Stellantis influence.
Dull fact. Here in Japan the 3 door model has been out for 6 years, still has over 12 month waiting list. So Suzuki has absolutely no plans to send the 5door to Japan. (they dont have to)
I hate the US Market. Everything keeps getting bigger, heavier, and more expensive. My 2016 Renegade Trailhawk was filling that void but they discontinued it because of declining sales. Hopefully Toyota or someone makes something when its time for me to get a new vehicle.
If I didn't have to tow I would buy one just becouse of the solid axels and coil suspension. Owned one in the 90's and it was fun and capable off road but just too small and underpowered on long trips.
Previously Suzuki can dominate this market with this type of car but with the arrival of new Chinese 4x4 with the like of Tank 300 that start at around 46 k driveaway, you are talking about just a few thousands more and you get a far better car both on road and off road. Much more useful space. Make you wonder whether it is worth waiting for a tiny Jimny
no safety? hard plastics? simple? sounds perfect. no auto transmission and it will be perfect. nowadays i dont even want power steering, lower-tech the better.
I live in the US and I hate that Suzuki pulled out of North America. I have an '08 GV and it's a bitch to get some parts for it and they cost and arm and a leg. I just spent $108 dollar on 3 oil seals for the transfer case. Everybody is all JEEP JEEP JEEP here and anything that threatens that isn't available here. I'm telling you, if this Jimny was available here it would sell like hot cakes. $35k price tag, actual solid axles, available manual tranny. Put a reliable 4cyl diesel engine in it and they would fly off the car lots.
Cruising off-road car, spartan styling interior and exterior, probably needed a 1.8 litre engine and remove the back to before a Ute style but hey can’t have everything.
*me crying at the pc screen* this probaly never gone get released where i live also they cracked down on most of them new suzuki jimny in the EU most of them you can stil buy are mostly for company use no civilian use / unless you maybe get handy with DIY a 3 door version into 1. --- i do love the look of these Jimny XL or 3 door but im afraid i can never get the steep price paid for them here if i do look for 1. Its sad but its the truth they should realy try bring one back for EU spec if possible with a different engine maybe. Stil a great review
I love the looks. "super low price" you say? Here in The Netherlands, the 3-door version starts at €43.400. So this one will start at 45K euros. Nobody will buy it. The new Duster 2024 4x4, is the one I want you to test. Even though this one has an iconic look, the price here in the Netherlands is just too much. You say it has no competition, but I would like a test comparison with the new Duster, which will sell for 15k less.
Yeah fair call, but where we live and test these cars - Australia - Dacia are not sold. But there is word the Dacia Duster could arrive here in the next couple of years. We will do a comparison if that happens. But is the Duster any good off-road?
Nah, the times have changed and driving one on the highway was dangerous. On gravel the centre of gravity feels like its going to tip over at 25km/h. Buy a secondhand subuaru outback or XV.
Great objective report. I wouldn't buy one though because the safety of my occupants is a high priority. For similar money you could get a Pajero Sport GLS with 160,000km but much more room, as good off road with that Super Select II 4x4, 3.1 tonne towing double the kW and torque and a pleasure to use on every road every day. Or perhaps for $10k a similarly agricultural Daihatsu Feroza in great condition.
Unfortunately its not sold as a normal car anymore in Germany. The three door used to cost 18k€ (30k AUD) now they sell it as a commercial vehicle to avoid penalties for the engines emissions. No side Airbags, no led headlights, no infotainment and it now costs 29k€ (48k AUD) it’s a joke. The 2018 Models are sold used for around 35k€. I‘m out, on the road its a piece of shit and without the side airbags wont even get 1 Star on ncap.

The fuel economy is the key selling feature. 6 litre per 100 km. I love it. Hi from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬
We hope Suzuki takes notice of these comments.
$35k. Car yards are selling them anywhere between $41k to $50k drive away. The car yards are being selfish here and taking full advantage of the production hold ups. It's not like everyone wants them. I'm waiting a couple of years.
35k plus on roads, due to demand no discounts at the moment, so add about 4k to the price for dealer delivery, rego and stamp duty, a white manual should be 39k white auto 41k more then that tour being ripped off
That's car yards here in QLD. Definitely not touching them. NSW may be a better option for me.
4 doors would be nice for us as we have 2 kids 🙂 Btw we have the retro Suzuki badge installed on the front!
he spend the whole time bagging the car saying how bad it is day to day but overall its a great car hahaha
He does. And it is an old car with low tech bits and pieces. But that's part of the charm 😉
Basically a mini Prado or jeep but is much more capable in off road.
Would be interested in knowing whether the longer wheel base improves the ride and handling compared with the shorter version?
They just need to make a 1.8lt 6 speed manual/auto. It's not like they dont have a plethera of engines to chose from.
👍👍
Live in the Colombian bush, the area is full of Jimnys, mainly LJs. These things will outlast 2 or 3 LandCruisers, & I'm a Toyota fan
very pertinent comment mate - thumbs up
I'm tossing up between one of these and a GWM ute. The GWM is bigger, safer, more powerful and has so much more tech, but the Jimny is definitely charming and just slightly cheaper
What are you looking at for on-road price for Jimny XL? Guessing around $40K? While Tank 300 starts at $47K drive-away.
I would stay away from GWM.
I'm actually now leaning more towards the SsangYong Musso. My only issue with it is that ugly front grille and no active cruise, but neither the Jimny, GWM or LDV have that either
@@ThatGuy-ur5cn Well it's proven tech vs iffy tech. I don't mind buying cheap but not if it means poor quality.
It should be priced at $25,000
The three-door used to be priced under $24,000 when it came out in early 2019. How times have changed.
www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/2019-suzuki-jimny-australian-price-and-spec-116600/
@@carsales yea true..... market is tough now there are heaps of new players around $35 - $40K price which offer more value for money, more comfort and 7 seats like Mahindra Scorpio, LDV D90, Haval H6, Tank300 etc and as compare to them Jimny XL is quite small and bare bones.
suzuki will ripoff early buyers by providing huge discounts to later buyes😅😅
Hello there! Have you tried it with the manual transmission? What would be the best choice between mt and aut?
Feann reckons the manual is more fun... but more work. He says go with the auto, even though it's not as engaging.
Auto works better than manual off-road.
We’ll never get it in the States, but we had a 95 Side Kick 4wd that we Loved, anyone know how this compares to the old Side Kick?
Even if I owned a G63 or Range Rover, I would only use it for shopping and driving around town, and I would never want to drive it off road.
If I'm going off road, I'm going in a Jimmy.
very pertinent comment Bud - speaks volumes
legendary little machines.
Any idea when the XL being ANCAP tested?
Suzuki is unlikely to give them a car, which means ANCAP would have to buy one. And they don't have deep pockets so it's probably never gonna happen.
When the ANCAP the Hyabusa ...
I have this in India. And i love it.
Nice video guys
Thanks mate!
For looks l think the 3 doors is more good looking but practical purpose the 5 doors wins hands down!
Wish this thing was available in North America
Me 2 somebody like Dodge/Stellantis should try and partner up with them and bring some their designs over instead of making all their vehicles electric…
It would sell like hotcakes.
@@carsales yes it would…
Buy a Canyonero 😀
@@JoeC88 what vehicle is that…?
Big road trips off-road are the best! Thanks for the comment.
I feel like the country of manufacture may well impact quality control. Japan has a stellar reputation for quality and reliability.
You shold definetely try out Japanese version of Jimny with 660cc 65 hp engine to fully appreciate your Jimny
Just ordered one, first time a manufacturer has built something i would be new.
Is it perfect no, is it comfortable and durable enough to drive on c class or worse roads innthe country absolutely
I guess it depends on how often you will be on C class roads.
@garylab7934 c class is the supposed good roads and what we have in 3 directions for an hour and 1 for half an hour.
The smoothest roads in the area are the earth roads these are nicknamed freeways as you can sit on 100km/h with out a kidney belt.
@@Bigcountry_littlelegs Wow good luck on those roads. Jimny will be well suited to it.
Less is more. Cars have too much tech these days. I just need a small 4wd to get to work in the snow. Our long driveway and street isn't paved.
Precisely. For a lot of people all the tech and doodads and gadgets are overkill. This is simple but it works.
great review
Getting the same job done with less complexity is genius. That's the Jimny for you.
I wish they would bring them to the US.
Great little nugget, but 75kw and 130Nm is hopeless. Should at least have the 86kw and 156Nm engine from the Vitara.
More hopeless is my turbodiesel samurai With 63hp & 110nm, this Will be a rocket ship
@@salvador_mano4x4 Yeah in comparison the Jimny has 103hp and 134nm torque
@@ishowspeedy21 15% more Torque and almost 40% more horsepower, cannot go so bad
@@salvador_mano4x4absolutely
Adapt to your vehicle; that's what a good driver does. This engine is more than capable off-road, what it's designed for. But a Ferrarie if you need Nurburgring.
Drives fine don’t what’s the issue such a fun car to drive plenty of room in front n rear
It drives fine yeah. But it ain't perfect.
Since when did they start to manufacture it India? And is it reliable as the Japanese made Jimnys?
As reliable. Proven in the rock deserts and savannah of Africa, in extreme situations.
Wombat state forest. Raddclif trk
I am seriously jealous. I just purchased, less than a month, three door one. And I like 5 door😢😢😢😢😢😢
Being from the states ive always loved the Jimney but its near impossible to find one.
This also feels very Jeep minus the absurd Stellantis influence.
Yeah there's definitely a Jeep feel to the little mud plugger.
Back in 1988 I had a samurai it was great just under powered but it went anywhere
Dull fact. Here in Japan the 3 door model has been out for 6 years, still has over 12 month waiting list. So Suzuki has absolutely no plans to send the 5door to Japan. (they dont have to)
best second car, back to OG
A bit more power would make this a killer ride...
35000$ is not dirt cheap. $20k is dirt cheap.
7.22 it is a small vehicle. I dunno how you get a large boot in a small vehicle 🤔
Exposed seat latches make excellent tie down points.
NCAP rating is thus tested for the 5door jimny launched in India where it scores 4/5 *. 😃
I bought it in India and am loving it...
Would be awesome for exploring in India for sure.
@@carsales it's pretty awesome in our cities also.... Especially in our bumper to bumper traffic
Me too… bought it in India… auto alpha variant
I hate the US Market. Everything keeps getting bigger, heavier, and more expensive. My 2016 Renegade Trailhawk was filling that void but they discontinued it because of declining sales. Hopefully Toyota or someone makes something when its time for me to get a new vehicle.
Excuse me, 11:25 what was that?
I ordered a Jimmy i only have to wait 4 to 3 months for mine
If I didn't have to tow I would buy one just becouse of the solid axels and coil suspension. Owned one in the 90's and it was fun and capable off road but just too small and underpowered on long trips.
Previously Suzuki can dominate this market with this type of car but with the arrival of new Chinese 4x4 with the like of Tank 300 that start at around 46 k driveaway, you are talking about just a few thousands more and you get a far better car both on road and off road. Much more useful space. Make you wonder whether it is worth waiting for a tiny Jimny
Reliability
Reliability with chinese unproven
Suzuki needs to add some 8 to 10 inches to the wheelbase.
In the Philippines this thing (AT Model two-tone) costs around AUD46,500 and that's without adaptive cruise control. Crazy ain't it?😅
Woah, yeah that's a bit exxy.
SUZUKI JIMNYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Actually the four-door jimny Auto on the road is $41,990
no safety? hard plastics? simple?
sounds perfect.
no auto transmission and it will be perfect.
nowadays i dont even want power steering, lower-tech the better.
Mate, I just care about off-roading!!! Who cares about on road stuff here in Australia?
Yeah fair call 😁
Cruising off-road car, spartan styling interior and exterior, probably needed a 1.8 litre engine and remove the back to before a Ute style but hey can’t have everything.
Thx Suzuki for adding an extra full row seat to jimny
Improve the quality, raise the price $3000 and I'd be interested.
The winky little motor is a deterrent to purchase.
Pity it didn’t have two doors and extended single glass for the side rear passenger area.
Dealers in WA asking more than 42k
Demand is high, so prices go up...
Same ingine power..!very disappointed.....we don't need new door...we want ingine power!😢😢
Lets be real we all want 1
love it
Wow, I really don't want one of these.... I want two 😊
My manual is great
What colour? We were hoping for the green one, but the Ivory has a safari sorta look. Contrasting roof is nice too.
Stil a great review
went to look at the price on Suzuki website, $43,000
Damn!!!!! What's the price for a wrangler there???
All they have to do is raise the Scross to 220mm gound clearance and lower the price $5k and problems solved
4*4?
Needs a 2L and a 6 speed Auto
ScorpioN and Gtank does gives similar capabilities at that price
You mean GWM Tank 300?
Give this car a 1.5 turbo diesel and we are talking
That would be insane off-road - all that low end torque.
A bit small for the price considering you can get a tank 300 for the same price with double the features
Add 15k for the tank300 they start at 50k
Unfortunately its not sold as a normal car anymore in Germany. The three door used to cost 18k€ (30k AUD) now they sell it as a commercial vehicle to avoid penalties for the engines emissions. No side Airbags, no led headlights, no infotainment and it now costs 29k€ (48k AUD) it’s a joke. The 2018 Models are sold used for around 35k€. I‘m out, on the road its a piece of shit and without the side airbags wont even get 1 Star on ncap.
Harsh but fair.
