People who make comments of lack of power, bad handling, old technology etc. Do not get it, it's a Jimny and I love it just the way it is.
Absolutely right ❤❤❤…I checked out the latest Toyota, Isuzu and Hyundai but my mind kept going back to the Jimny…Lack of power they say?! I find it’s not an issue. I still ran stock tires. It has a throttle lag though which a Throttle controller fixes. Good enough for me as for supposed old technology. It has character. Not a family car for sure. I fly airliners by the way that are fully digitized and automated machines and at the end of the day I fully loved driving my “old technology” jimny.
Yep I agree 100%. Less is more for me.
Yup. We swapped the 3 door for the 5 door. I enjoy it for all the reasons that some people complain. On and off road.
Had a 2gen
It was 45 horses.
It went everywhere.
Was the fastest thing on the lights.
Had fun teasing ppl with sedans and cars, back in the 90s.
But the fun lasted till it touched 60 kmph. After that it was quite embarrassing 😂
But I lived in the hills so speed was never the primary thing.
Point is, even 45 horses could get you places. Later they got a 60hp motor with 5 gears, but the manual diff lock went away.
I own one of these and I can tell you it is an excellent machine. Manual transmisson, very comfortable, go anywhere any time, easy to drive and easy to park and perfect for narrow trails and city traffic scenarios. I used to own many of its predecessors (the Samurai - long wheelbase Gypsy as it was called here in India) and this Jimny 5 door is absolutely the perfect replacement with all the mod cons and yet old school in design and capability. It is a highly common-sense vehicle.
But then, it is also well known that common sense per se is quite uncommon amongst the world of consumers.
I have the automatic transmission (in deference to the mrs 😂) love the retro vibe. It gets the job done and love driving / sitting in it…
I agree with you
I took my new auto on a 6000km round trip to uluru, doing 1000km a day in it I found it brilliant on long runs, very comfortable, no pain or discomfort that I get from much shorter trips in my previous dual cab.
It's a surprisingly comfortable long range cruiser for a little vehicle with a 6ft 120kg driver in it.
I have totally modified my jimny and it’s a dream
1 tanabe suspension springs shocks and chassis mounts ride and handling is next level
2 bullet supercharger power problem solved.
3. Igniters
4. Rear disc breaks
5 new headers and exhaust
The car is a pocket rocket
I hv just paid for one here in Zambia. I should be collecting it in the next few days. Should be good on fuel economy compared to the Grand Vitara I'm replacing it with.
Good review, actually the best around…I have the same car and loving it. I would have to add that if you turn off the traction control when driving on sand for ex. it kicks back in over 30 km/h and in this case you would need to change to 4L driving.
City driving 11 km/l and highway 12,5 km/l. What you said regarding having a turbo engine on it….totally agreed since I think it would not be a Jimny but a complete different animal.
I have had a Jimny XL for a few months now. I have added Kumho 215/75R15 106/103R tyres from Bob Janes, I had Tag towbar (recovery points) installed by TJM and Rhino-Rack 2 Bar Roof racks from Roof Racks Gloare. Great 4x4, very happy with it.
I like that it has rain gutters cars just don't have them anymore they keep water out the car and you can attach an inexpensive generic roof rack. Old school is the best school, keep your apple car play and google not interested.
The exposed demister is great. Easy to fix. Same as my Patrol. The simple seat adjusters is the way most cars work without the annoying plastic covers that break. Thanks for the drive test. We were dubious about the steering characteristics.
Do love the Jimny, it's hard to come at the price but they sell so people obviously see the value
I pickup a manual, jungle green Jimmy xl next week from Suzuki dealer. I needed a 4x4 for NSW country roads which are extremely poorly maintained. I needed more than two seats, as a family of two adults and child, the 3-door wasn’t practical enough. I am worried about the highway driving slow overtaking and blown around with wind couldn’t test at the dealership. But the ability to get home with animals on road and potholed roads means the advantages out way the disadvantages. The back seats being higher is great for our 9 year old being able to see out the front and actual luggage space. We plan to use it for camping. It is slow but this is fine.
Amazing review. Jimny 5d happens to be my first 4x4 and my daily drive in Himalayas….beautiful little machine and I have so much liked it that I seldom drive my other cars…
Great review, went from a 3 door to a 5 door and we find the 5 door heaps better, its still fun but its much more stable,
With constant 100km/h drives with an auto we average 7.9l.per 100.
Also i find the rear seat to have more room then the current model dmax even with the seats all the way back.
I still like them. And so must other people. I keep seeing them around. I now know two ladies that have bought the 3 door version. For me I would prefer a bare bones 3 door version. No touch screen. No electronic gizmos. And a rock bottom price. Unlikely to be an option these days. I was a petrol head. Full on car enthusiast. If I came into money I wanted to commission my own car build. Then Ian Callum built my dream for himself. Plus a few more for rich friends. I really wanted one. Never to be. Now as they clamp down on everything fun. Even with money my dream car would be illegal. Why people want cars that do everything for them. And instead of them, beats me. That revamped sixties Jag would have been perfect.
Take a look at a jimny lite, about as close as you will get, no touch screen etc
@@Bigcountry_littlelegs Yeah the lite is perfect in that regard. Unfortunately there's no Lite option in the Jimny XL. Hopefully in the works.
Spending lots of money on an English car is folly
Awesome follow up video! Thanks a lot , I really like your channel and in this case how you covered the new five jimny with such degree of detail. Love it!
Ripper of a review as per usual, mate. Gotta love the uniqueness of the Jimny package
Helo from Indonesia..compare to Suzuki Jimny or Katan in 90's era which was so notoriously hard, how do you feel this new one?
People shouldn't comment when they don't understand basic mechanical engineering. All they achieve is to flaunt idiocy.
Great video - Jimny is definitely an outlier in the market today. A quick search reveals the 5-door is a Maruti product (India) whereas the 3-door for AU is Japan built. I wonder if there will be any longevity issues. I've read that Maruti is accused of cutting corners for the domestic (Indian) market compared to Tata and Mahindra, but that their exports are built to a different standard perhaps.
That's good info - another reason to get the 3 door!
Maruti and suzuki have been in partnership ship since the 80s, it's more equipment they remove for india to reduce price
Only assembled in India. All parts are supplied from Japan
The ones we get in South Africa 🇿🇦 are all tough and good.
I’ve owned a 3 door, and now a 5 door. I can’t see any difference in build quality. The Indian spec models don’t have adas crash avoidance systems which is mandatory in Australia. The engine and gearbox comes from Japan, but some other components are sourced in India. I wouldn’t let the fact that the 5 door is Indian built put you off.
Can you do the same review with a Suzuki Ignis auto glx, I got one and in Sport just pulls so well I guess the cvt finds make torque and the light tare weight just doesn't put the G force onto the chassis
Seriously if the released it with a 100kw 300nm 1.5 turbo diesel it would be awesome
Diesel why?
That stopping distance of 46me is surprising poor for this liitle car...I did expect a better number than that to be honest 🤔
How wide is the wheel track? Same as Wrangler? Is it wider than the older model Jimny?
watched 4wd 24/7 with an old one, those things are unkillble 👍
Was it mentioned these are made in India?
It so funny I have a Range Rover but want a jimny 😂
Hi there greetings I have a Suzuki 5 door jimny but the car uses 13 to14 litres of gas for 100 km so think about that I am a good driver no of road so so think about this John Vanharen
Im not sure whether to get an automatic or manual
Got the automatic in case the mrs want to use it 😂
For 4x4, automatic. It just works better. And it is torque converter, not CVT. Excellent.
My mum's got the 1.9 litre turbocharged jimny with a 175KW ENGINE BUT IT CAST HER $60,000
i bought automatic because manual was a problem in some cases
it has much low torque so you have to play with clutch in some cases and that will only wear clutch out and not to mention constantly worrying about rev range and gear is an issue
if it had 300nm+ torque this wouldn't be an issue
suzuki wastes a lot of money
they wasted 100million on indian version jimny and no one bought it!
why not invest in a good powerful engine diesel or not doesn't matter
I want a better engine, bigger wheels, IFS, smaller turning radius. Well, that is not a Jimny anymore, unfortunately.
Maybe the new Toyota Mini will be that.
It is like in South Park - they make a good-looking car, but it has no seat. Why cant we have a normal car that looks this cool?
Mini landcruiser i wish. Be perfect but not in au
Nice
You got the wrong price on that car on road
Thise car need desel engine and must be between 1900 to 2200 CC
0-100 in 22 seconds
And? You just don’t “get” the point of a Jimny
And the Bugatti has 3 degrees approach angle, so?
5 speed manual why? should be 6 speed. over priced for a good looking car.
This car needs a more powerful engine to compete
150 hp at least
It's not competing with anything, because it's not built like anything on sale today, you can buy the "competing" brands if the Jimny is not powerful for you
Spoken like someone who hasn't driven one
Thks Breett a great review.on xl 5d jimny .
It does not need more power as it is already light enough to pull it's weight out in any extreme terrain tracks.
power dont bothers me it the enjoyment of the Rid of the car
