Feels to me like the players should also be punished. Large fines for players, suspending them for several years and stripping their title would really make this a punishment.

Players def got off wayyy too easy but they got a deal that if they admit what they did, they would have immunity. So theres nothing MLB could do after that. however, I would say the term "them" is too subjective because we do not know exactly which players actually took part in it or was even aware of it.

20 years ago when MLB salaries started routinely breaking the $1 million mark, friends and I would joke about whether the game would be the same now that a bunch of millionaires were playing against other millionaires... Lol! The spirit of the game was definitely altered. Fast forward to today where virtually every franchise has a valuation of $1 billion or more, and what we have instead of teams in competition with each other is multinational brands vying for global market-share. And all of these institutions are now owned by billionaires or equally wealthy consortiums who have an orthodox belief in the bottom-line. All of this has badly damaged the soul of Baseball. There's no way that Manfred could police his bosses effectively and objectively and still expect to keep his job. The MLB has become just like every other corrupt, parasitic "too big to fail" institution. And it only took 174 years! Boys of summer my arse... it's more like "boys of diversified portfolios and guaranteed defined pensions". That doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, lol. Rant over :(

You're mostly right, but missed the big internal conflict- the players are paid a lot, but only a fraction of the actual profits. Owners are great at getting fans to think their players are overpaid w/o ever considering the actual bottom line. Lerner couldn't afford Rendon & Strasburg! Please. Stra even was willing to take deferments to keep Rendon. What was Lerner willing to sacrifice?
The players have an interest in getting paid & owners want to pay as little as necessary. The Black Sox were underpaid & disrespected & so tanked the series. Houston, thru Lunhow, created a toxic franchise that viewed ethics as obsolete. They used their farm system as indoctrination. It's really depressing.

@@MrJimmy3459 Cheating is cheating man. It doesn't matter how far each was. There is no worse once the rules are flagrantly broken. And comparing the two isn't exactly what is happening in this thread despite thats what I keep reading about when I read your retorts. There is no comparison nor should there be. When you go through the list of cheaters being caught in the game where would you rank the astros? it's obvious that you think the BlackSox are the front running winner for sure. So where would the Astros rank? No.2??? What they did is may not be on the same level. But when you are comparing cheating scandals in the sports it's pretty high up there. I mean the PED scandal is probably worse IMO, but these 3 incidents will be remembered forever for a reason. It's because they are all way over the line. Whether or not it matches the Sox doesn't matter. The fact is the MLB had more integrity back then as well. It's why they were all banned from the sport. And these guys get a year??? Really?

Rich! It doesn't matter HOW useful it was. That's the common defense of this crap. "Oh, it didn't help that much.. they were still the better team." Allowing that crap as a defense simply encourages more cheating. To engage in the conversation, they wouldn't have done it if it didn't work. But regardless - it doesn't matter. They gained an unfair advantage - and as Bob Costas put it, "If you can't trust the integrity of the game, then you might as well be watching the WWE." The players were behind this. I'm fine with punishing the GM and Manager because they allowed it, but to NOT penalize cheating players is horrible. I'm waiting for a professional league to come down with the death penalty against the team for this crap. Vacate a title. Ban them from post-season play for a couple of seasons. Think that's too harsh? Guess what - it would work as a deterrent. Period.

And none of these professional athletes care about their public reputations. When you're banking half-a-million a week, why care what the fans and what history think of you? The culture now values wealth far more than it values honor or honesty.

I feel sorry for Bregman, Correa, Altuve, Gurriel, Springer, and the rest of the roster. That Management would hang the threat of them losing their jobs, reputations, and what I've heard from anonymous sources that AJ, Cora, and Lunhow threatened physical harm to the players, their families, and friends IF they didnt' do what they were told, is horrifying. I'd be surprised if the 2020 Astros roster can put up 50 wins, while surely playing with PTSD after enduring said atrocities for months.Being made to cheat?!?!? Good Lord!!!! Just saying that sends shivers down my spine. Firing these diobolical coaches and GM is barely the tip of the iceberg towards healing. Ownership should be made to pay for what will be years of therapy for these players, nay, victims which may not even help. Irreversible damage may have been done and what with the merely livable wage these ball players (American heros in my book), take home after taxes. Sigh.....I'm beside myself.

I mean so many people are blaming hinch and the man is guilty. But how shameless are those players and the front office. The manager clearly didn't like but accepted it coz it was helping his team win. He was clearly frustrated with it hence he broke it twice but couldn't bring himself to say guys don't do it. But those players especially someone allegedly as clever as Beltran and Cora. U should realise he's not breaking this for fun he doesn't like it and he doesn't wanna say it we need to stop. Like shameless bastards they replace the screen twice and continue their nonsense

Rich. You are a very smart man, but I find it so interesting that you are so “stunned” by these actions of A.J. Hinch. Just like you didn’t understand why the Raiders TE would self sabotage himself as an addict. The fact that you don’t understand tells me you have lead a very superficial life

"NOBODY CARES".. this is just another step in the failing sport known as Baseball. In ten years, if Hinch wins more World Series with other clubs, people will be saying he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I heard all this kind of stuff with PED's, they made players out to be villains and now complain that they should be in the Hall. Cheaters win in Baseball, have for a long time actually, the history of the game shows it. All of this is just a failure by MLB to improve and grow their sport. The NFL has helmet communications but Baseball cant have a two way wrist band that lets Pitchers and Catchers communicate? There is so much technology that makes these issues non-existent. Nets down the foul line, Electronic Strike Zone, etc. Yet year after year MLB drags their feet and allows things like this to plague their sport. Move on, watch Soccer, Basketball, any other sport, just stop worrying about Baseball its dying and Nobody cares.
