Great video Tim. The only guitar lesson I ever had was from Ted Greene. I was 17 years old. He lived in an apartment in the Valley. I’ll never forget it.
I love watching your videos Tim. They are really very educational. I love the sounds you get out of those guitars. I enjoy them very much. Thank you so much.
Great wise words from the sage. And don’t you just love the way Tim smiles that little smirk when he starts to play? 🤣 Thats a master that loves music right there, and one of the best ever at it👍
Wow Tim....It is a cold winter and guitar season in northern Ohio. Thanks for a great TH-cam lesson! Will definitely work on the five positions. So good to see you're safe! Thank you
Great lesson Tim; and a great reminder of chord positions in playing. Toward the end of your segment the playing progressions were reminiscent of classic Steely Dan. At any rate thank you Tim. Great as usual!
There was so much to take away and study in this lesson! Thank you so much. I have a feeling I will be coming back to this video many times in the coming weeks. I unfortunately am not one of those " photographic memory" people! 😅
Just ordered Chord Chemistry from Amazon and subscribing to your master class. New years res to learn every note on the finger board and become competent at guitar. not just so so intermediate/ Thanks Tim I know Im gonna love your lessons.
I can take three weeks to learn a song and forget the whole thing 3 days later...lol Thanks for doing what you do, and most importantly, thanks for being who you are, Tim!
Amazing lesson Tim. This is so helpful. I have the Ted Greene Chord Chemistry book and have to dig that out of my book archive. It has some mind boggling stuff in there.
I actually have a mental block on these so I went to caged. Using that, I understand and see the scales now. I need to understand. I can't just memorize.
Yeh, that's true, 40 odd years ago it was still very much a completely analogue world. My memory is that the range of pedals available was tiny. Interestingly, I still own and use an Ibanez UE-300 multi-effects, bought brand new around 1982 - must have been one of the very earliest multi-effects units (all analogue), it has a compressor/limiter; a tube screamer and a stereo chorus. Fun times!
I have watched a huge number of guitar teaching videos on TH-cam, and there is one aspect of guitar playing that NO ONE ever talks about. That is your FINGERS! For example, should your finger nails be cut short? Is it important to have calluses on your fretboard finger tips? How should a beginning guitarist strengthen their finger muscles? It would be delightful if you, Mr. Pierce would talk about these things I mentioned. Thanks!
Um about to head to solo gig tonight. Ive been practicing alot...alot. Plus ive played all this material over and over again . Some songs for years. I still get nervous but i know my material. Will i play perfectly? probably not lol. Im there to entertain and give the buisness what they hired me for. Your video just reinforces that. Break a leg.
But in your case isn't that you just play without even thinking about or knowing what you're playing, it just comes naturally and whatever falls under your fingers fits the theme in the musical moment? Are you still thinking if you're playing a minor or whatever key and scale that is?
Only if you let yourself be trapped. I hate that folks think they are "trapped" in the boxes. You trap yourself. The boxes are the neighbor hood and you can explore farther down the street but you always have home base in the pent scale. Its about being creative.
So happy your neighbourhood stayed safe! 🙏
I love watching Tim play. His smiles and facial expresions encompass what guitar playing is really about.
10 minutes that absolutely rescued Me from Cabin Fever in Frigid Colorado.
Great video Tim. The only guitar lesson I ever had was from Ted Greene. I was 17 years old. He lived in an apartment in the Valley. I’ll never forget it.

@ good music! How about you?
So glad you're doing well, and we're able to avoid last week's fires. I hear the wind is coming back soon, tho! So stay alert, my friend.
At 6:18 that wasn't just luck that was pure skill 😂 and true mastery from years and years of playing guitar 🎸
This is such a brilliant lesson! It answers the question I asked in the recent survey! Thank you Tim! You are a generous man! Much appreciated!

appreciate the content, Tim’s the man …
and all the music over all the years..
really loving the Tom Anderson Raven …
I prefer the way where everyone meets and jams… more of a social interaction and experience, face to face… my opinion
I can take three weeks to learn a song and forget the whole thing 3 days later...lol

I forgot I had chord chemistry. Thank you for reminding me to revisit that. My hand has recovered from what it did to me years ago :-)
Nice slide up from Am to Em at the end. Got some Amos Garrett on it! Great lesson, thanks!

Hello Tim , everyone else who is here for some knowledge from a Master 🤘🤘

I hear you are doing a class at NAMM 2025. I will be attending. Do you know where and when this will be taking place?
Countdown and we’re back

What's the prerequisite for your 30 lessons? what do I need to know to make it effective?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Damn sometimes I feel like I am doing everything right, and then sometimes every guitar is crappy sounding, as well as every amp.
What is that guitar? Can anyone tell me who makes the guitar that Tim is playing?
Tom Anderson guitar.
I'm subscribed to masterclass - just would like to download music track for practice......
it's attached to yesterday's master class members live stream... the most recent one in the category :) just email support if you can't find it ...
But in your case isn't that you just play without even thinking about or knowing what you're playing, it just comes naturally and whatever falls under your fingers fits the theme in the musical moment? Are you still thinking if you're playing a minor or whatever key and scale that is?
Tim, don't say "I play slower." Rather, "I play more melodically," which is absolutely true (cf. David Gilmour).
whereas the boxes are the great tool, I think the same time they represent the deadliest trap for guitarists 😒
Only if you let yourself be trapped.

look ma no hands
I’m the one who showed him that.
