I'm still don't own a FPV drone, but long range always get my attention. I like the steady and stable feeling on the footage plus the possibility of fly long distances and explore new places.
Start with a small cheap analog drone (rekon3, rekon35, etc) and analog goggles. If you can stay calm when you loose video all the sudden and get gps not just working but working correctly to guide it back until you get video back then go for a long range 7 inch with a go pro.
I have the chimera 7 pro v2 with the 8000 mah battery and its a great combo in my opinion. But i haven't flown it yet with my 4000 mah battery for comparison
I have Chimera 7 pro v2 and I have flown this with 6s2p 8000mah liion pack and 3300mah 6s lipo. What I have noticed with this quad is that the motor stator length is exceptionally long compared to other efficient LR 7inch quad. I also have tested various props with this and concluded that the stock hqprop 7.5x3.7 prop is not efficient and it feels it has weak grip in the air. I think this is because the long stator motor with high torque can handle more aggressive pitch props. 8000mah 6s doesnt feel too heavy if you use higher pitch prop which this quad can handle. The battery is around 860g and using 7040 triblade from gemfan and without a gopro, the quad can fly around 20 minutes and above 3.0v in mid air flying and it depends on the wind and so on but it takes around 14~15amp draw for mild slow cruising. 3300mah 6s lipo would give you around 10 to 11 min of flying in conservative manner flying as well. This is not the most efficient setup but pretty ok if you use higher pitch prop than the stock ones.
@@nicolasazar96 i can make it fly upto 30min yes if I charge the bettery fully to 4.2v per cell and drain it to 2.5v and no gopro and fly it in eco mode (no sudden throttle input, no high speed, and so on). I think though from 3v to 2.5v per cell, the voltage drops so fast that i cannot enjoy flying but be nervous about returning home safely…
Nice review and comparison Justin. I’ve thought about that Kolas for travel, it would be so much easier to fly with vs the others. I have a Rekon7 that I built up myself with an O3 and it’s freaking huge, not getting it in bag easily, even without props. The only way 7.5” will work on the Rekon7 would be to put a spacer under one set of motors to get the props overlapping.

Hey Justin. the flag is hung backwards. the blue panel should be in the upper left corner whether hung horizontally or vertically. Blue in the upper left when hanging on a wall. The only time it is blue on the right is on the right hand side of a uniform or a vehicle for cavalry (think of how a flag would look if it were waving in the wind in a charge). love brother.

Awesome review Justin. I am still working on finalizing the tune on my 7” ApexLR. I went very unconventional on the build though. I decided to go with 3008 motors at 1900kv and 5s batteries. I like it but, it has low resonance frequency issues with the frame. But it flys good and it’s fast as ish
I often run 2x4000mah 6s(the iflight ones) in paralell on the Chimera7 pro, and it handles it like a champ! So I think the 8000mah pack would work just as well. 🤟😎
Hey Justin, just watched the video, I live in the UK I want a long range, I've pilot a lot of drones over the last few years but they were loaned to me. I desperately want my own for exploring when I go rock climbing and holidaying. I've clicked the links for the top 3 however I don't really know what options to choose and some aren't available to me in the UK also do I need the fpv goggles as well? I think the dji v2 goggles have been recommended to me several times. If anyone can help me get started preferably lower budget but can possibly adopt a higher if necessary. NB. I am open to building my own if its an option and has plans 🙏 TIA
So I was telling someone yesterday at 10 feels pretty big to fly and transport. I don’t know why, but 8” seems like the sweet spot. I also like my 7.5” quads a lot. The point of a 10 really is for going the extra distance with a larger battery. The seven and eights really just will almost do the same distance and they’re a little bit lighter and easier to transport and deal with . The 10 inch quads with props on, are actually pretty big in person.
i still have a old 285 vortex in the box withe the foldable arms from back in the beginning when fpv first flew from caves lol :} i wouldnt mind owning a 7 inch. ... with crossfire. analog or preferably caddix vista. got any reasonable used one justin?

There are so many, I’m looking into getting a good fpv freestyle drone, but it’s so hard to choose.
How big if a fpv drone it will be required to lift about 5 lbs and carry it for about 5 miles one way? No return is required.
