If you cannot get the best thing do not stress about it, all of the drones I go over are still incredible to be able to get as "entry level."
Even the Mini 2 is STILL an awesome drone. Mini 2 SE should be shipping when I post this, so that would be your model to go for (same as Mini 2 but better signal).
It is a 1/2.3" sensor and shoots 12 megapixel photos but it is PLENTY to grow with. Just find it used on Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, Offerup for like $300 or lower.
Mini 2 SE (2020) - $350
(used to be called Mini 2)
4K Video, RAW photos photos, no collision sensors but can live in your pocket
Mini 3 (2022) - $450
4K, RAW photos, Great connection, Vertical Filming, .76 inch sensor, really impressive for the convenience and ease
Mini 3 Pro (2022) - $750/$900
Get the $900 one, it is a billion times worth having a dedicated smart remote especially for so little extra.
.76 inch sensor, 4K footage, vertical filming, 12 megapixel RAW photos, quietest body type, looks like a bug when its flying. Could write a book about this thing. By far the most fun, incredible connection. Footage often looks like it came from a bigger drone. Activetrack to follow you around if you care about that.
I've got a review on the Mini 3 Pro as well, LOVE it.
Air 2S (2021) - $1000
Not as fun as Mini 3, not as quality as Mavic 3, so kind of neither benefit. Color profile is sometimes maybe gud, sometimes maybe sheit.
5.4K footage, 1 inch sensor. 20 megapixel photos which is great for pros.
60fps if you care (I don't). After the Mini 3 Pro being out for a year, that thing just overperforms and I'd say just get a Mini 3 Pro instead.
Mavic 2 Pro (2018) - $700 Used
King of drones up until 2021. 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel RAW photos. Beautiful image but software/firmware is getting dated. You would do better with most newer drones.
Autel Evo Lite Plus (2022) - $1100
6K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel photos. Flies pretty rigid so stick to front/back and left/right. Really nice picture, lovely reds like in all Autels. Oversharpened image but I can live with that. Fun colors to pick from give extra points, could use on a work day no sweat. Doesn't beat DJI but this isn't bad.
Autel Evo Nano Plus (2022) - $700
4K footage, f1.7 lens (just means a bit brighter image) 12 megapixels. Features promoted at launch still haven't come, software janky crashes. Was not a good time. Great at low-light and sunsets compared to the Mini 3 Pro though, that is the one strong suit. Everywhere else it loses bad.
Mavic 3 - $2150/$2850
4/3 inch Sensor, 5.1K footage, 20mp photos. Long flight time. Get the normal version not the $4000 Cine version if you don't know what Prores format is.
This is the Business Class plane ticket drone, there is no going back after having this. Unbelievable dynamic range. UNREAL stability, default color, flight control, flexible rich data for color grading.
A 7x zoom lens comes on Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine, not perfect but SO fun to use that thing. Great for cool angles and cinematography nerds. In general most of what I film on this drone looks better in the end than what I thought I was getting while shooting. They knocked it out of the park with this drone, no limits honestly.
Mavic 3 Classic
Not typing all that again, you get the point. Minus the Zoom lens, everything else is the same. Crapping myself at the price being so cheap now.
DJI Mini 4 - No, don't even start asking.
Inspire 2 + X5S camera - $8000+ Used
Shoots 6K RAW Video (literally filming in RAW photos)
5.2K 422 Prores and 4K Proress 4444 incase you know what that all means. Cinema formats but such a pain to lug around, and the noise is a lot. It's more like a once in a while, Ace in the hole to blow something out the water or shoot Stock Footage and practice cinematography. Interchangeable lenses are really nice too.
I have other videos on making money, go watch those if you need.
If you want the fastest way to get better footage, watch the Cinematography one, trust me it is very necessary.

First! Good to see you Alex, your tutorials helped me a great deal when I just started, and now I have my own drone business. Can't express my gratitude enough.
Its 2023 and I'd say the same thing one would say years ago.
Buy a mini 2. Price to value ratio it's fun, useable and has stood the test of time so well

a mini 3 now! Learn to fly without OA. Its the same price as the mini 2 was and is an overall improvement

My man just flew a $8000 dollar drone in his living room. 😂
The drops of humour really make this video standout. Simple effective and easy to understand. Experiences and personal views and then them jokes.
Definitely watching more of ya stuff!
My man, TH-cam needs more people like you.
No senseless hype, honest, to the point, and funny with the quips which really drives your points home.
cheers on a great video.
“It's ok if you have a little one, I've heard from multiple partners, and it matters more how you use it” - Love how you put humor in these videos.
What does it mean?
😂😂😂His humor is absolutely 😂😂😂😂😂. This guy is whole party

started to learn, caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, realised I was fat and this wasn't my course.
I had to stop the video to laugh on that one.
the look of panic in his eyes when he launched the inspire 2 inside was priceless
edit: over 500 likes! never expected this
Yes, priceless. No doubt he has a few prop scars, like me.
I actual laughed
i've watched that part like 4 times. cracking up!!
He ducked 😂
I thought some wind was blowing through the curtains in the background... and then I realized the door was closed.
I'm 63, been into photography my whole life, a Mechanical Engineer, and a technology geek. I mention this so there's a hint of credibility when I say that this is one of the best videos I have seen on TH-cam. Perfect content, delivery, pacing, humor, and the production is A1 quality. My medium format Mamiya RB67 is a bit dated now and certainly can't fly so I was looking for info on a first time drone purchase for entry level photography; but I got so much more. Thanks for such an excellent learning experience.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Took the words out of my mouth. I will be buying the DJI mini 3. I can't wait.
good lord, this is the type of content that TH-cam was invented for. Unbelievably useful advice and expert production quality. Thanks.
Thank you for doing what you do. You’re straight to the point, bluntly honest, and hilarious. You actually make learning about drones fun.
thanks I started youtube a while ago because I hated sitting through 4 minute intros of them reading the title back and then saying "without further ado lets dive right in" drove me nuts.
@@QuickAssTutorials Hey I once drove a drone trhat is around 150$ right to a tree it still lives to this day

“I’ve been teaching people since I was fat.” 😂😂😂 congrats on the weight loss!! You look great. I know how difficult the journey is, lost 40 pounds, coworker thought I quit because I looked so different. Thanks for all the hard work you do for the community! 🙏
hahaha oh my god haven't heard that before, thought you quit haha
@@QuickAssTutorials could see the amount of effort you must have put in when you were holding the remote with arms in blue top. Respect Bro. The self-criticism it takes to do what you have done has made me realise I need to buy your course.
"coworker thought I quit because I looked so different." that's priceless. "You look just like this guy who used to work here" 😆
Its refreshing to hear someone be honest about running a drone for beginners and actually hear the good things and bad things to expect. The truth from actual experience is what really helps me for anything new I'm getting into. It sucks when someone tells you a product is decent when really they are trash or don't do anything close to what the marketing material says. THANK YOU SIR.
"You show your wife, she don't really care" that cut real deep coming from a man who's hobbies include gaming, firearms and model kits of fighter jets and tanks
Feels bad 😢
It's almost always that way. I do grafting of fruit and nut trees and while she loves all the produce, she doesn't care about the actual art that enables it.
Dude I watch your videos for the entertainment. Your comedic quips make my day, and I still end up learning something new.
I've been in this drone game for a few years now and honestly, this video says everything that needs to be said to a beginner.
And more great tut.
@@prototribal4659 I have a lil drone that can be used without a smart phone or controller, and is perfect for me but you would probably hate it cos if the very short range (by design)
No sugarcoating, no nonsense straight honest words and reality. I need you now more than ever since I'm in the process in buying a mini 4 pro
The world needs more people like you doing tutorials and reviews! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video - I don't often comment, but this was great! Straight to the point without wasting time, quick witted jokes slotted in, and real world advice and examples. I really appreciate content like this!
Thank you so much for being straightforward and to the point. Really appreciate how you break down what's really important and what's over hyped.
I like this guy. He doesn’t waste time with small talk… he says it as it it; goes straight to the point and is not a bullshitter
Subbed!
Your video rocks! You have a rare skill in sharing an impressive amount of knowledge in a concise, to the point, and understandable to all skill levels. I could’ve watched 5 other videos and not left w a clear picture of what I need out of my drone. Now I know exactly what to look for. Thank you!
Easily one of the most true and straightforward buying guides I’ve seen on TH-cam. You keep it real and informative. I currently use a phantom 3 advance for construction but due to the jobs we do in NYC the drone is too big and a bit of hassle. Thanks to this video I’m going to upgrade to either the mini pro or the mavic 3 classic. Thanks again for the great content.
Your vids are highly entertaining and ridiculously informative.
As an absolute noob in the drone space just starting off on this journey, THANK YOU!
Man, your tutorial is one of the best out there (speed of talk, excellent info and grate humor) Thanks!!
Man your choice of words, your explanation of everything is out of this world. You really cleared my mind on what I should buy now. I am a total beginner but now it is so clear for me. Thank you for this video!
I believe this is the best video on drones on youtube for those starting out. Explains everything, and I really appreciate the commentary on gimble/lighting/angles/cleaning up with the less expensive drones, that footage is decent! Everyone should start here.
Done his courses, they're fantastic. Clear, to the point, properly useful information. Even back when he was bigger.
This was the hugest help, now that I'm done romancing about a drone and taking the next serious step for my business... which will be my first drone. I loved your delivery. Straight to the point, your 'know how', and experience. I didn't need your dry humor for this but it cracked me up and I loved that too.
From south Florida here. Thanks to your videos and all the information I went ahead and purchased the mini 4 pro recently. I have my part 107 cert but was waiting to finally pick a drone and get to practice flying it. I flew a friends drone years ago when it was just a drone with a go pro on a gimbal. Things have advanced so much its great. Thanks again for your videos. 👍
The Chad is back! Love your reviews man! No clickbait, no bullshit, just clear and concise information. You're the reason why I bought the Mini 3 Pro 8 months ago. Keep it up man!
New subscriber but I’ve come across your videos many times over the past several months while researching for my first drone. I ended up buying the Mini 3 pro last week and absolutely love it!! I already know now that I want one of those Mavic 3 Classics!
I love your channel and humor lol Great stuff!!
I really appreciated your candid honesty on all the drones covered. Thank you. I am that guy that has spent multiple loving years with the same drone and attempt to manipulate the res, filters, ect.. trying to get better and better footage. A "larger sensor", got it. I look forward to updates such as ADS-B, cargo, new sensor, and soft and hardware similar to the new controller in this video.
This video could not have been more to the point with exactly the information I was looking for. Excellent information and you explain things perfectly and calmly. Love it 👌
Great vid. Clear and to the point. No useless filler. Love the dry humor.
Sir, I am only 4 minutes into this but I have to say, your honesty and reminder about your productions and editing is a huge reminder of what I'm going for. I'm just a dude who wants to play around with a drone and take some cool pictures and videos. I'll be just fine with the mini. Thank you for this video man. Really appreciate you putting the time in.
Insanely thorough drone tutorial. Love the banter, settling on the mini 3 pro for my Bahamas trip. Can't wait to try this bad boy out. Thank you sm
Excellent, very informative, very well presented and exactly to the point. In less than 20 minutes you managed to remove all the hype and marketing nonosense that complicate unnecessarily the selection or purchase of a drone. It is the first time, after countless hours of watching drone-assessment videos on TH-cam, that I found all the answers I needed presented in a clear, understandable and very well documented way. I guess that that there are not many people (amateurs or pros) that know those things, and even only a small fraction of them is able or willing to share their knowledge and expertise with other people like you do. Many, many thanks!
Thank you for the overview, loved the snappy detailed review & comparison. I’m gonna buy the mini 3 pro !! Let the learning begin 😊
Hands down the best informative video I've seen on any topic. Concise, extremely thorough, humorous, and relatable!
The blazing fast speed that the IMPORTANT and relevant information comes at you from this video is amazing. I feel informed and encouraged to jump into owning a DJI mini with the Screen built in Controller. Like he said, it's the right time to get into the hobby due to the amazing advancements of Drone Technology.
Bought a used Holystone HS100 from a friend a couple years ago when he decided to upgrade. Great beginner drone, I've crashed it a hundred times, the landing gear are duct taped on, the gimbal motor is broken, but still loads of fun to fly and still works great.
Well worth it to get into the hobby, but the quantum leap between it and the DJI Mini is insane, despite the minor price difference. If you're on the fence, Holystone will be more than enough to allow you to figure out if it's something you'll enjoy.
Dude, I’m sooo glad I watched this. I’m looking for my first drone and mainly for taking still shots of peoples yards for landscape design purposes and you gave meso much info and answered everything . Great job! For real, thank you!
Straight to the point, most of us I'm sure really appreciate that. I picked up the DJI Mini 3 pro.
Literally plugged in charging for the first time (my first drone) So excited!
Superb commentary - thank you, enjoyed this. Complete beginner here, took your advice from some time back and chose the M3P with RC, am loving-loving-loving it.
I really enjoy your style and sense of humor. The long-running "Ninja Turtles Lunchbox" bit is a personal favourite. Genuinely enjoy and appreciate your content, Alex. Please keep 'em coming :)
I’ve just started to think about getting a drone. This video washed the floor of any other out there a very clear and gives just enough information.
Thanks so much. I really needed that. Getting ready to buy a drone and you really helped me out. I loved your straightforward, no nonsense approach.
Your earlier Drone Buying Guide back in 2022 was the one that sold me on the Mini 3 Pro. Couldn't be happier with the choice. Thanks man. At some point, I will be interested in signing up for your drone cinemaphotography & course to get the most out of this hobby. Thanks man.
isnt this the same video, just new uploaded
@@jdexplores01 He re-use a lot of the scripts & footage from his 2022 Guide but modified to incorporate newer drones such as the Mini 3 (non-Pro version) which is quickly establishing itself as the new benchmark for entry level drones. I see absolutely no problem rehashing old advice & footage when the camera drone market has essentially maintain the same models. The title changed to '2023' to facilitate better search by the TH-cam algorithm but the advice remain just as relevant now as it was a year earlier. But it's equally true you can never satisfy everyone on the internet....there will always petty pedants who like to chime in with their snarky quips on the most mundane and petty of grievances. Don't be a wet mop. And if you can come up with your own video with production quality that exceed what is on this channel, then maybe you can put your money where your mouth is 🤣
I bought a 2 nearly 3 yrs ago I'd crashed so many I thought my area or operator so I just kept it in its box not wanting yo lose it
Your videos are awesome! Helped me make the decision to get the DJI mini pro 3. Just a new hobbyist myself, but I love the attention to detail 🍻
Great video thank you! You def hit on all the questions I had and those I didn't know I really needed to ask.
Man! You Rock! Love the humor-tech combo! Keep it up, you’re a positive inspiration! Thanks!
Definitely one of your more humorous videos. I have an Mavic Air 2 and I use it all the time for Real Estate. When I’m lugging around gear it’s a lot and I’m contemplating a Mini 3 Pro to get my load out lighter and smaller. Sensor it a little larger but smaller overall and I think higher chance of traveling with it.
I love his no BS commentary here. It's funny and informative.
Just stumbled upon your video. This is fantastic. It's real and honest and funny as hell. Great content, keep it up.
i rarely comments on youtube but sir, this is one of the best video ever. clear, concise, straight to the point, no overmarketing very professional

Mr Ass, I have my own small YT sailing channel and, my friend, I appreciate your work. The deadpan humour (yes, it's humour, I'm English) and clear and concise information makes your channel superior to very many. I bought the mini 3 pro after weighing up the pros and cons and I'm really pleased with it in the UK with no licence.

Excellent review and detailed comparison between the most popular drones. My favourite is the mini 3 pro which is packed with all the goodies for a reasonable price. Pity it’s not a 1” sensor. Here’s hoping for the mini 4 pro to have a 1” sensor, weight permitting. Once again, excellent review. You just added another subscriber to your list 😃
That would be a huge accomplishment just to get it on a body that small but I would also crap my pants in delight
Excellent video, Alex. While I don't consider myself a beginner, I am approached by people all the time who ask "What is a good drone to start with?" Got this one bookmarked and will pass it on as needed.
First video I have watched from start to finish in a long time. Great job!
What a great video! The best one I've seen so far. Thank you so much! Perfect job!

Wow! I’ve had my Mavic pro since it was released and was my first proper drone. The big selling points at the time were its foldable and practical to take anywhere. How the drone scape has changed over the years. Flying recreationally and mostly just enjoying the thrill of flying in sport mode and seeing sights from a new angle. Camera quality wasn’t too much of a bother for me. Only now that I’m seeing your videos am I realising how far these cameras have come. Being 20 now. I have a pc so I’m going to start getting into some editing and I’m wondering if it is even worth trying to edit the Mavic’s footage or should I just get a new drone?

Aww, I love the Air 2S. It's only slightly bigger than the Mini 3 Pro but with a larger image sensor, extra collision detection and quieter than the Mavic 3. Plus it does better in the wind than the smaller drones.
Yes, Air 2S's wind performance is great. Mini 3 Pro's, not so much. I usually fly really slow and close to things and if there's a wind, the M3P's film will wobble.
Thanks for great video, QAT!

Air 3 next year will not be
This is so well made I am in awe. Thank you for helping a noob.
Wow, that was the greatest introduction to anything I've ever watched. Thank you.
Would you ever make a video about recreational flying and what guidelines you need to follow vs part 107 etc? I would rather watch you than anyone else on youtube. You get to the point with no BS and keep your audience entertained.
Yeah I really ought to
As an Air2s user for professional work, I felt a bit bummed that you left it out because I think it's a beast in its own regard but I understand. Thing about your videos is they hit differently. I can see you put not just time into them but heart as well. Thanks, and well done.
I agree probably beat value drone in the world and has almost everything. It's my dream drone.😅
The "1 sensor is what sold me for the Air2s.
thinking about buying the air2s, looking into getting some footage of my sons football games also some fishing out in the pacific here in hawaii. You think this will be a good choice?
@@daddynowski Check your local regulations first, because here in Europe, you are not allowed to fly over crowds unless you get a special permit or permission. Even need to have a special drone pilot license. But the Air2s is a great drone, excellent quality footage, if you have the money btw, they already announced it's successor. the Dji Air 3
