The main reason why this movie flopped is that it came out at the same time as the first Despicable Me movie, I think kids were more drawn to that movie over this one cause this one is more complex and adults didn't really want to give an animated movie that much attention. It's unfortunate that Megmind falls into that area of being too mature for kids and being judge by adults just for being an animated movie, it's still a stigma that hurts lots of great animated movies and shows.
This movie is awesome…. They don’t make them like they use to … just straight out fun … entertaining movies…. Animated or not animated… Here are some more fun movies …. In one of the school scenes at the start Metroman is playing the guitar for the class in the background. So, part of it is he just likes to play the guitar.

@alm2587 yes but i think he means more that only those who gave it a shot enjoyed it. Whens the last time u brought up megamind n someone knew what u meant?
Something I noticed is that at first it feels like Megamind’s egocentric, but then you realize he’s just easily impressed. While yes he brags about himself, he’s also that way with other people too. Like Metroman’s awful song, and his “granted you have talent” line.
Yes. He's, in general, very positive towards others. For example, telling Roxanne that she's the smartest person he knows. And he means that. He likes other people, but they didn't like him. And part of the bragging is probably him cheering himself on because he didn't have anyone else who would (except Minion).
I love how much this movie works to show the difference between the creepy Nice Guy, and a nice person. Also the difference between abductions. When Megamind does it, Roxanne is calm and even sassy. But with the loser, she’s beyond terrified and probably worried that she’s gonna die at any given moment. She knows Megamind wouldn’t hurt her, but the other guy is just a skeevy slime.
It's pretty crazy to me how much Megamind was ahead of its time. It got decent reviews back then but nobody really talked about it but now in this day and age when there's more superhero media that tries to tell unique stories and deconstruct the superheros as individual people, Megamind surely fits in
Fun fact when metroman is “trapped” in the observatory and megamimd is doing his monologue- there is a glitch on the screen where you see a flash of white behind megamind, but we would all assume it was just a connection glitch. But we see later in the movie it was actual metroman moving faster than light so it’s a neat tip off that metroman was still alive because he choose to go back to the observatory
A sad detail that not everyone would catch. After Megamind and Roxanne left Metro-Man’s “man cave,” he said he was going home. In the next scene he was at prison turning himself in. Prison was the only place he considered as home. Love the vids!
I'm really glad you guys are watching Megamind. I have always loved this movie since I first saw it as a child. It is such a fun movie. We need more people to appreciate this masterpiece.😁😁
Since you guys enjoyed Megamind, I think you'll definitely enjoy The Emperor's New Groove if you have not seen that before 😁 I honestly love how you guys watched this and immediately got Hal's creepy 'nice guy' syndrome. It's true, this movie really has depth and a message despite it's a comedy animated movie! *EDIT:* Glad to see so many agree as well! I checked their patreon the other day to see if someone suggested it and I saw a couple of people in one of their posts, just in case they don't see this comment... so I REALLY hope they saw this comment! Also, I would like to suggest Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire since we're talking about animated movies!
Oak is such a good dude (genuinely). He went straight into one of the main points of this film. "The Good Guy" and "The Bad Guy" tropes. This movie examines this with two major plots: The Clark Kent of it all and the "Best Friend Good Guy". Is a super hero inherently good or were there factors (like being praised all their life and having it insanely easy). Is the villain inherently bad (or maybe they were seen as the problem from the jump by society so they had no other options but to be the other side of the coin). And is the "best friend" who always puppy dog follows the woman who is obsessed and devoted to her actually a real friend (or does he expect more). Obviously not all men, super heroes, villains fit this but it's worth investigating and questioning. For Mega Mind he represents the kids who maybe grew up in poor neighborhoods who are seen by society and the justice system as the problem (they feel like they can never win or be the good guy). Brad Pitts character represents people who grew up in privilege who got everything (without maybe really earning/deserving it and sometimes even really wanting it). There is extreme pressure in having to be the good guy the successful one. No room for failure. Jonah Hill's character (ironically) represents the guys who think they're the solution to the problem ("the nice guys") but are actually toxic. Because they believe being "nice" means they deserve things. That's not real friendship or real generosity. You are kind to be kind not to get things in return. These types of men can and do lash out at women when they don't get what they want from them. It can be and is very dangerous. It's encouraging to see men acknowledge this and be able to spot and highlight this. There are some really good humans out here raising their kids to be good humans. It's important for young people to see that some behaviors are toxic (even dangerous) but that there is good in the world and that there are people really working hard to change things in the right direction (like men who are examples of positive masculinity: Badd Medicine host).
I've seen Megamind a couple times, but just noticed something. At 22:36-22:39 when Megamind says "I can explain," I just noticed the poster behind him that says "NO YOU CAN'T"
As a woman, I just want to say thank you guys for your emotional intelligence and willingness to talk about nuance in your reactions and discussions! Oak talking about Nice Guy Syndrome was so awesome and affirming to see - thank you for understanding what that is and how harmful that mindset is. Love this channel!
It really shows just how much the trio of Metroman, Megamind, and Roxanne trusted each other Not a single moment of her being captured was she afraid or trying to escape, and Metroman could've just stopped time and gotten her at any second, but didn't Whereas with Hal, she's immediately terrified for her safety if not her life, seeing "someone like him" have powers, and then promptly gets twisted around by Megamind as well
It’s kind of alarming that some reactors seem to almost side with Hal. They expect Hal to get the girl in some way. Im glad you guys picked up on what was happening. I think a lot of people (especially hormonal teenagers) could learn from the themes in this movie. Placing conditions or expecting reward for acts of kindness is borderline predatory. You see kids like this in high shool, that have this notion. And it can lead down some dangerous paths. *A genuine act of kindness is given freely, with nothing expected in return.*
@@RambunctiousMouse I’ve seen 2 that automatically assume Hal is the hero just because he has a crush on Roxanne. Subtle comments such as “so they are going to be together” or talking about “deserving” a shot after Hal “putting in work”. They just seem to have zero issue with his attitude or actions. I can’t say who they were bc they were suggested channels. And I told TH-cam to not recommend them anymore based off their reaction. Creeps me out
@@shadowlessxpan Yikes! I can't say I blame you at all, I'd block recommendations from them too. Mind telling me which ones so I can avoid them? If no that's okay, I just thought it was worth asking
@@shadowlessxpan Ah, that's okay. At least I now know there's some reactors like that to look out for. Thanks for answering my questions dude. Take care
320 mil box office isnt really a flop for an animated movie. It just didnt have a lot of staying power and was over shadowed by Despicable Me which came out a couple months before it.
@@renoslash1890It cost $130 million plus marketing which was probably an additional $50 million and as a rule a movie has to make 2.5 times its budget just to break even, which is $320 million. So if it's box office take was $320 million of which the studio only gets half, the studio either broke even or lost a little. The studio spent $130 million plus $50 million for a total expense of $180 million, half of $320 million is $160 million. That is considered a flop.
@@GoldenWreckYeah, I love the movie and wish it hadn't flopped. But the reality is it did. When talking about success the money is the only factor that really matters. I'm sure that DVD & Bluray sales and streaming licences have pushed it into profitability in the last 13 years.
I love the detail of the eyes being their original colour when a character uses the device to look like someone else, it's a great clue if you spot it. Using the weather to emphasise an emotion is called pathetic fallacy, it's a common and effective technique! Also, although they use a recognisable voice cast, I personally think everyone embraced their roles well and gave some decent voice acting. We don't see it often these days when live action celebs get involved.
I'm fine with Megamind not having a sequel. This movie was clearly very well thought out and if you just make another one because the first one was great, it's rarely going to be so good even with the same writers. They clearly had some specific concepts and themes in mind with this movie that were explored well and there's really no need for more. You'd have to touch very different themes in the sequel for it to be even worth making and I doubt it'll get this good. I prefer to let things stop where they should.
the real fun in megamind is the pleasure and the enjoyment he has from "being evil". Now that he is considered to be the hero of the city he can't really go for the fun of breaking the rules and being mischievous, also having vilains plans gives him a goal to strive for, he always fails but it motivates him to push even harder. There is a small animation (maybe 20 minutes) that was available on youtube in the past, same actors, same team and all but since it was a story taking place after everything, it didn't have the same energy
Love Oak addressing the issue of NiceGuys and how other men handle (or ignore) it. Dude was keeping it 100% real. Great children's movies are those that people of any age will enjoy. Like Shrek having more mature one-liners, jokes and references.
Oak mentioned that this movie felt like it was aimed more towards adults. Fun fact: the original script was written as a live-action adult comedy. Dreamworks reworked it as a family-friendly animated movie instead. The original script can still be found online, but yeah, it definitely wasn't for kids. Anyways, loved the reaction! I knew y'all would like just based off of how awesome the soundtrack is!
when I was a kid, I hated metroman for his reasons, but now I'm grown, I completely understand metroman Metro Man was tired of always being a hero. It's not that he dislikes saving people, but rather felt like that he never really had a choice. He decided to MAKE a choice, and chose to give up crime-fighting and go into retirement. He away be of what the city love him to be, there savior. But now he realized that he should have become someone that he love to be instead. Metroman's message is often overlooked, it's alright to help others and all, but you are not responsible for anyone's happiness, you should come first on your list of priorities, and no matter how much better the world would be with your help, if you are not happy, then what's the point? Do what you love to do and be who you want to be, and don't let anyone or anything stop you or make you feel wrong for doing so.
What about moral responsibility? If you can help someone, you should. I don't understand how MetroMan could go on playing on his guitar when someone in the city is screaming for help because their love ones are in mortal danger. It's like walking by without stopping when you see someone drowning. You are not responsible for that, but no decent would ever shake your hand knowing that you could have saved someone's life and just chose to focus on yourself.
@@ZarrarAAliBad comeback. I do believe people have moral responsibility. If you know that you can stop a horrific event, are you going to stop it or ignore it and look away. That was the point of that character arc in Spider-Man 2. If anything, your comment shows how bad MetroMan is. You're right, he's not Spider-Man. Because Spider-Man is a far better hero than Metro Man is.
@@Xeno_Solarus yes. Spidey is a better hero. Because his story is someone who was a one in a million chance of getting bitten but he decided to do the right thing with that very lucky chance. It was never forced on him. With metroman it's the opposite. He was forced into it. Grown up into it. So it's not so much as a choice for him.
This movie is one of the most underrated animations ever. It subverted the superhero tropes so well. There were so many hidden detail and easter eggs. I think the reason Megamind mispronounced so many words because he wasn't allowed to go to school and had to teach himself English. The mispronunciations were ones that someone who isn't a native speaker and doesn't understand how illogical the english language is. "School" wouldn't look like it has a "sk" sound. Maybe he pronounces them that way because he is so intelligent that he assumes everyone else in saying it wrong because it doesn't make sense.
We love this movie as a family. It is just so funny. We all say "Ollo" instead of "Hello", 😂😂, especially my daughter. She has even slipped and answered her work phone like that.
I'm really glad that you directly addressed the whole nice-guys-that-aren't-actually-nice/idea of women only wanting "bad guys" issue and recognized it in the movie. That's very refreshing to see, especially from an all-male group. And I agree, they did a great job at highlighting the subject in Megamind. Especially since it's so pervasive in our society, but so rarely talked about. One of the many reasons why Megamind is one of my favorite animated films.
I think my favorite part, was watching you guys geek out to the soundtrack, the songs were perfectly placed and I had the same reaction when I saw it, such a fun reaction!
There’s a brief moment where Metro Man disappears for a couple frames and then reappear once more. Somewhere right here - 8:01 This was the moment he describes later on to Mega Mind and Roxanne when saying he took a walk and went away to rethink his life.
I stumbled over Megamind on Netflix. Had never heard of it before, but it looked interesting. So I gave it a shot and it has been one of my favourites since then! It's an absolute gem and I always find new things. The cast is amazing, the visuals are great, the message is awesome and the music is just 🔥 glad you took your time and enjoyed it as much as the fandom did!
I remember loving this movie when I was younger and I was STUNNED a few years back to hear that it didn't do well in the box office, especially considering the surge of memes and praise I was seeing online at the time. Glad to see you guys enjoyed it.
It's one of my fav animated movies ever. The writing is so clever, the soundtrack is perfect and the humor is amazing. Sadly it was overshadowed by "Despicable Me" when it first came out.
Megamind also came out about 4 months after Despicable Me, and some people probably thought the two movies were too similar, at least on surface level, to bother seeing Megamind.
Gosh this has always been one of my favorite movies, it's such a clever twist on the superhero genre, has tons of great references, and twists that are as believable as they are surprising. Just such a masterpiece of a movie.
For some reason, my favorite line is when MM as Space Dad looks over at Minion as Space Stepmom for the first time and says "Oh, you look fabulous." without a hint of irony or sarcasm. Talk about ride or die...
Unfortunately, when Megamind came out, I think there was Will Ferrell fatigue. When I saw his name attached, even I got put off. I saw it on dvd afterwards, and absolutely love it now, it’s amazing.
Someone might have already mentioned it but yes Metroman was heavily inspired by Elvis. Elvis himself loved the idea of being a superhero or a secret agent, he was rather inspired by Captain Marvel Jr. aka one of the Shazam family Freddy Freeman. Also the original story for Megamind, or Mastermind as he was called, was more of an R rated comedy. So glad this movie has made such a comeback over the years, it was so overshadowed by Despicable Me originally. Great reaction.
From personal experience, the guys who pretend to be nice to suck you in are always the most spiteful when you turn them down. Real nice guys are definitely my type though!
Fun fact in the scene at the end where metro man has a flashback about their last confrontation? At the beginning when Megamind hijacks the opening of the MM Museum, Metroman actually disappears from the screen for 1 frame when he does his walk around in the flashback.
If you think about it part of the joke about Metro Man's fake weakness being copper is that if he was vulnerable to copper you could just sh--t him. And not with anything special, like almost any bullet would work if you could hit him. I don't know if this was an intentional thing on the writers part I think it was but it's funny either way
I love how after they meet music man Mega Minds hero journey literally starts and they speed run it. It starts with refusal of the call and everything. Brillant.
This is my family's favorite movie! My sister was obsessed with it when it came out and it passed on to my brother when he was born. We quote it all the time! And my dad recently watched it with my 2-year old son! It was a joy to watch with y'all :)
So many things I could address, but most important is that the Welcome to the Jungle entrance is one of the top 5 hero entrances in movies--and it's found in a smirking Dreamworks Animation movie!
it really is such a fantastic film ! I think what makes it so good and what made and makes animated films good in general is when they don't underestimate what kids can take and what they can actually deal with. You guys touched upon that as well, it has very adult themes and is definitely a film that can be watched and enjoyed by adults as well and I don't know but whenever animated movies or tv shows directed towards families find that perfect balance between darkness/ seriousness and comedy/ wholesomeness it's always a hit! Really seems to be the perfect formular. Funny and lighthearted enough to be tolerable over the whole run time for younger viewers but serious and hard- hitting enough with deep messages for the adults to enjoy
A lot of people attribute the poor performace at the box office to the terrible marketing around the film. The trailers did a very bad job at representing what kind of movie this was, and I think a lot of people dismissed it without giving it a chance
I never saw it in theaters. Didn’t even knew about until I was bored one day and saw it on streaming. I freaking love it, one of the best animated movies ever
The plot threads in this movie were and are some of the best circumventions of expectations of any movie ever; and in a family movie to boot! Absolutely wild how they pay homage to the classic comic book hero tropes and weave around them all to make 'what if the bad guy won?' so engaging. Leave it to the casts all-star comedians to know how to set em up to knock em down! Megamind is Criminally underrated. love to see the whole crew has become fans!
I'm glad they didn't do the cliché thing and make Metro Man the bad guy. It was much more wholesome to see him kind of cheer Megamind on to be a better person and that they actually kind of get along.
I love how they show the different grades of good and bad/evil with different characters. Like how it's made pretty obvious that Roxanne is the true hero with her actions, but she's so humble that no one ever considers her one. The scene where they're talking about what makes a true hero and finding someone who embodies those things, and she's literally standing right in front of him while her qualities are being listed off. She's the first one to always do the right thing. In this way, it also shows how she and Megamind are genuinely compatible, because they're both good people. Also that metroman knew Megamind was just playing at being bad the whole time and considered him a buddy. The depth of writing is brilliant. It's a bit frustrating that people feel like crying is what makes a movie a masterpiece or not though. This film is perfectly constructed with fantastic character writing and delivers on many other emotions. The focus is just different than the usual Pixar or serious Dreamworks stuff, but I think it's on level with them and even exceeds in a lot of aspects. HTTYD 2 is good but it's actually kind of messy in some ways in comparison to this. Not every movie needs to make you cry and it's "failure" to do so shouldn't be used against it. Just different genres, and a movie can be a "5" in comedy/drama, or a "5" in drama/fantasy etc. There's room for all of it.
Yay! So glad you guys watched this. It's ahead of its time lol. My only gripe is the "get the girl" trope that Megamind played into a bit, but they did a great job avoiding it a bit with Roxanne not being so helpless or useless. It was more the expectations and the lines delivered by the blue man himself.
I personally felt like it was more about how he felt like he didn't deserve love or as he put it to 'get the girl' Whereas he thought guys like metroman did. And then in the end he accepts that he is worthy of love too.
@@mariakhan7986 It's a better way of thinking it but it's an outdated expectation by the writers, even as Megamind's character's assumption of "how it goes".
Megamind is criminally underated However it came out at the same time as the MINIONS movies and was for older/ mature kids which unfortunately overshadowed it glad you guys love it!
Oak: "Being picked on, bullied or feeling like you don't belong can stick with you for a long time." Yeah. It sure can. I haven't been bullied for 13 years, but I'm still affected by it. I might not have turned into a super villain, but I'm dealing with crippling anxiety and depression instead. I'm glad you guys are around to make my day a little better. I don't usually comment, but Megamind is one of my favourite movies. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to more awesome movies and shows!
The movie lost to marketing, really. Despicable Me had nothing except minion. That's what sells the ticket. Not the story. There's a long, long lines at McDonalds when they offered Minions toy with every Happy Meal. I was there working. Just finished school. It was a nightmare for the crew.
The name Hal Stewart is an amalgamation of the names "Hal Jordan" and "John Stewart" both Green Lanterns of Earth at various points in time. This movie was made way before the Nice Guy(TM) term was used. Hal is the original Nice Guy(TM) in movies.
I still quote "Get back you savages!" with regularity. This movie ended up getting overshadowed by Despicable Me, both having character named "Minion" but being much more toy marketable, but this was always the better movie. It touched on themes like Nice Guy Syndrome and destiny vs. desire, and had an amazing soundtrack. I like how Metro Man wasn't just an arrogant jerk who was full of himself, but someone who much like Megamind never felt he had a choice. He got the lot in life that led to the existence Megamind wanted to build, not the one MM wanted. And even in spite of their lifelong rivalry, he understood Megamind was just as lost as he was and wanted to inspire him in the end.
I love this movie so much and I am so happy more and more people are turning their eyes toward it. The music slaps and is used so well throughout the movie, it's just pure joy.
I remember watching Megamind at the cinema when I was 9 years old, I went with my mother's friend with her son who was 5 years old. He got stressed in the middle of the film because he wasn't enjoying it. I didn't understand why. The movie is very good. But now I understand. This film is for older children. And many adults must not have been interested in watching it in theaters, because they summarized Megamind as a children's film.\
Thank you for all of your thoughtful insight as always, Appleton Oak. :) Your comments on "nice" guys were spot on, and it's heartening to know that there are guys like you out there standing up for the right thing.
Bro so so glad you reacted to this. This has been my favorite DreamWorks movie of all time aside from Kung Fu Panda. I’ve been saddened that this never got any sequels because it’s just so good. Hope you guys can react to some more animated gems like Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Rise of the Guardians, etc
This is, by far, my favorite superhero movie! And has been since it came out. I love the way Metroman and Megamind's stories mirror one another - they both feel trapped in a story role they can't escape, and Metroman knows if he comes back, he'll be locked into that cycle all over again. He's tired of feeling like he has to live his life living up to other people's expectations, which is definitely something people coming from wealth and prestige struggle with!. I love that he chooses to fade into obscurity and work quietly on his music. And I love how supportive he is of Megamind when they could have easily written him out and not referenced him again. There's just so many neat elements to this story about choosing your own path, doing the things you love, and changing your mind later in life. It's definitely a movie easily aimed at older children and adults, and it rides that line better than most other movies to come out today. There really aren't many that get away with including messages and teachings directly relevant to adults.
It's probably been mentioned somewhere in the comments, but there was a follow-up short film, "Megamind: The Button of Doom", and an animated series, "Megamind's Guide to Defending Your City", is going to be on Peacock some time next year.
The previous video was Megamind 2 mockery. When I read the title of this video, I thought it was talking about Megamind 2 for a second and was extremely confounded. 💀
It's also important to know that this movie came out the fall after Dispicable Me, which also contributed to it not getting as much attention, especially from families with kids. I remember seeing it in theaters and absolutely loving it and it's one of my comfort movies to this day. Fantastic reaction as always! 💜
My top 3 DreamWorks movies are How to Train Your Dragon, The Prince of Egypt, and Megamind. For me, these 3 never get old no matter how many times I watch them. And there aren’t a lot of movies I can say that about.
Ouuuu this was a great reaction! I love watching you guys. It's like watching "family" in my Badd Medicine voice lol this movie was severely underrated but I'm glad more folks are watching now. It also came out the year of some pretty big movies, Harry Potter, Inception, Insidious, to name a few.
I like how they represent both sides of the nice guy. Hall is the "nice guy" and Metroman is an actual nice guy. Having the shortcomming of both sides really impressed me since one was too nice not to save people and the other was too delusional to notice he was not really being nice.
I find him funny but in this weird haha ugh type of way. It's pathetic funny. You know when you look at someone and you're just like wowww haha what a knob. He's very real and very creepy but hilariously pathetic.
I would pay a lot of money I don't have for you guys to react to these animated movies: - Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Treasure Planet - Titan A.E. - Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
@@TheCigam09 It's like a golden age of great animated movies that were too much ahead from their own time. Imagine if we had gotten more animated movies like this...
Excellent reaction! This is in my top five favorite movies; such a sleeper hit, great soundtrack, fantastic writing, totally unexpected twists and hilarious lines, super unfortunate that Despicable Me came out at the same time and stole the audience, or maybe we would have gotten a sequel. Really a clever movie and you're right; there's a lot of little things aimed at adults too, not in the usual innuendo type of way, but with great callbacks to Brando (awesome that you noticed that; not everyone picks up on it). And wow, the eyes! I've watched this movie at least a dozen times and I never even noticed the eyes as a clue as to who was impersonating who. Amazing!
This was a ton of fun! The soundtrack ROCKED! Shout out to the cast and crew for this banger! What was your reaction? What did we miss?

A theory is that Metroman chose music because his super abilities won't help him.
He has to actually put effort into improving.
To learn before excelling in order to earn praise

@alm2587 yes but i think he means more that only those who gave it a shot enjoyed it. Whens the last time u brought up megamind n someone knew what u meant?
Something I noticed is that at first it feels like Megamind’s egocentric, but then you realize he’s just easily impressed. While yes he brags about himself, he’s also that way with other people too. Like Metroman’s awful song, and his “granted you have talent” line.
That's actually a good point, he really was just seeing the good in everybody 😂
Yes. He's, in general, very positive towards others. For example, telling Roxanne that she's the smartest person he knows. And he means that.
He likes other people, but they didn't like him. And part of the bragging is probably him cheering himself on because he didn't have anyone else who would (except Minion).

Of course. That's why he had so much confidence in Hal.

It got decent reviews back then but nobody really talked about it but now in this day and age when there's more superhero media that tries to tell unique stories and deconstruct the superheros as individual people, Megamind surely fits in
Spider-Man 2 did Metro Man's character arc and did it better.
I guess because back then we were kinda spoiled for choice, great films like this slipped by somewhat unnoticed.

Its one of the greatest pieces of work, sadly they don't write like it very much anymore.
all the small little details, chekov guns and so on
Yeah the fact you can see the freeze frame and a hint to the twist so early is genuinely amazing
A sad detail that not everyone would catch. After Megamind and Roxanne left Metro-Man’s “man cave,” he said he was going home. In the next scene he was at prison turning himself in. Prison was the only place he considered as home. Love the vids!
he also says "no place like evil lair" early on, implying he doesn't consider the lair his home
@@GBlockbreakerI think it was also a nod to the wizard of oz. A multilayered reference!
I'm really glad you guys are watching Megamind. I have always loved this movie since I first saw it as a child. It is such a fun movie. We need more people to appreciate this masterpiece.😁😁
did you watch it before he joined sidemen??
The “I need you” by Oak was too accurate. He said it with a perfect hint of breathiness.😂😂
I second Emperor's New Groove, and also the Lego Movie and the Lego Batman Movie!

Lmao me too 🤣 I also go with "tomato potato potato tomato"
You put it into words 🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you!
I've seen Megamind a couple times, but just noticed something. At 22:36-22:39 when Megamind says "I can explain," I just noticed the poster behind him that says "NO YOU CAN'T"
Yes but it is also a parody of Obama’s campaign slogan “Yes We Can”
As a woman, I just want to say thank you guys for your emotional intelligence and willingness to talk about nuance in your reactions and discussions! Oak talking about Nice Guy Syndrome was so awesome and affirming to see - thank you for understanding what that is and how harmful that mindset is. Love this channel!
the oak is solidifying himself as my favourite member
It really shows just how much the trio of Metroman, Megamind, and Roxanne trusted each other
Not a single moment of her being captured was she afraid or trying to escape, and Metroman could've just stopped time and gotten her at any second, but didn't
Whereas with Hal, she's immediately terrified for her safety if not her life, seeing "someone like him" have powers, and then promptly gets twisted around by Megamind as well
It’s kind of alarming that some reactors seem to almost side with Hal.
What reactors are you watching that had that opinion about Hal? Every one I've seen picks up on it pretty quickly
@@RambunctiousMouse I’ve seen 2 that automatically assume Hal is the hero just because he has a crush on Roxanne. 320 mil box office isnt really a flop for an animated movie. It just didnt have a lot of staying power and was over shadowed by Despicable Me which came out a couple months before it.
@@renoslash1890
If there’s an OVERestimated movie, it’s Despicable Me.
@@jamesreese7111 Maybe budget-wise, but historically, this was definitely one of the most memorable animated movies.
@@Stefanswisswell…this she’s poorly since the new peacock exclusive came out 😅
Love Oak addressing the issue of NiceGuys and how other men handle (or ignore) it.

This movie has one of the funniest scrips. Of. All. Time. Ive watched it at LEAST 10 times since it came out and I laugh. Every. Time. 😂
when I was a kid, I hated metroman for his reasons, but now I'm grown, I completely understand metroman
Metro Man was tired of always being a hero.
Not everyone Is Spiderman@@ScarlettM
@@Xeno_SolarusMetroman doesn’t want to be a hero. So obviously Spider Man is a better hero, he actually is one
I have a friend who says certain random words wrong all the time. Like Scythe he says Skythe instead of Sighthe.
Never seen oak enjoy an animated movie so much 😂😂 glad yall loved it
We love this movie as a family.

I Still Love How At The Start Of The Movie Most People Think Metro Man Is Gonna Be An Arrogant Jerk But He’s Actually A Really Chill Dude
it's so important when men address wrong things that other man do, I'm thankful you guys talked about the nice guy syndrome with sincerity
I think my favorite part, was watching you guys geek out to the soundtrack, the songs were perfectly placed and I had the same reaction when I saw it, such a fun reaction!
There’s a brief moment where Metro Man disappears for a couple frames and then reappear once more. Somewhere right here - 8:01
This was the moment he describes later on to Mega Mind and Roxanne when saying he took a walk and went away to rethink his life.
And in that frame he also appears behind Megamind in the giant screen. Amazing detail!
I stumbled over Megamind on Netflix. Had never heard of it before, but it looked interesting. So I gave it a shot and it has been one of my favourites since then! @@JuicyJLeesame despicable me is overrated
Of the Bad guy becoming the hero... The fact that there are 6 despicable me movies but ONE Megamind IS upsetting
Truly a "hidden gem" movie
@22:38 as he says "I can explain!" and the "No You Can't" poster is behind them.
From personal experience, the guys who pretend to be nice to suck you in are always the most spiteful when you turn them down. Real nice guys are definitely my type though!
Megamind was soo underrated. It definitely remains one of my favorite animated films and it just had so much fun with the superhero/villain genre!
I don't know if this was an intentional thing on the writers part I think it was but it's funny either way
Or maybe it just takes a LOT of copper several minutes to drain his powers.
Megamind is criminally underrated. It is one of the best animated movies. I would give it a 5/5
So many things I could address, but most important is that the Welcome to the Jungle entrance is one of the top 5 hero entrances in movies--and it's found in a smirking Dreamworks Animation movie!
it really is such a fantastic film !
In the end we can all agree metromans the real hero for giving megamind he's big break
This movie is a cinematic masterpiece! This movie is so quotable and funny and Megamind is such a likeable villain
I have seen this like 50 times.
Brad Pitt as Metroman is awesome,And Megamind is my fav..
Megamind is top tier animation movie! so underrated
I like how this film virtually only had six voices throughout (not counting the mayor and Ben Stiller).
Megamind is such a great film. The quote about the difference between villainy and super-villainy being presentation is a classic.

Oak: "Being picked on, bullied or feeling like you don't belong can stick with you for a long time."
Yeah. It sure can. I haven't been bullied for 13 years, but I'm still affected by it. I might not have turned into a super villain, but I'm dealing with crippling anxiety and depression instead.

If this movie hadn’t come out the same year as Despicable Me, it probably would’ve been as well-received as any classic Pixar movie by critics.
The movie lost to marketing, really. Despicable Me had nothing except minion.
That's what sells the ticket. Not the story. There's a long, long lines at McDonalds when they offered Minions toy with every Happy Meal. I was there working. Just finished school. It was a nightmare for the crew.
I woke up sick, and I needed this video this morning. Thank you guys 😂
I love the "Forget me stick"
One thing that must be considered is that this same out the same year as despicable me, except this one gave us the better minion
I love this movie so much and I am so happy more and more people are turning their eyes toward it. The music slaps and is used so well throughout the movie, it's just pure joy.
the entrance of megamind at the end is legitimately one of my favorite character entrances ever, he's so cool

@@emeryltekutsu4357is it? I’ve heard nothing about it.
I'm so happy that all of my childhood animated movies are in so many react channels
Getting a "5" from Diamond Dave is the equivalent of a restaurant receiving a Michelin star.
I'm surprised oak didn't catch any or the many memes this legendary Master piece gave us
It's probably been mentioned somewhere in the comments, but there was a follow-up short film, "Megamind: The Button of Doom", and an animated series, "Megamind's Guide to Defending Your City", is going to be on Peacock some time next year.
Oak’s “I need you” whisper was HILARIOUS🤣🤣
The previous video was Megamind 2 mockery. When I read the title of this video, I thought it was talking about Megamind 2 for a second and was extremely confounded. 💀
It's also important to know that this movie came out the fall after Dispicable Me, which also contributed to it not getting as much attention, especially from families with kids.

I like how they represent both sides of the nice guy. Hall is the "nice guy" and Metroman is an actual nice guy. Having the shortcomming of both sides really impressed me since one was too nice not to save people and the other was too delusional to notice he was not really being nice.
Laughed a LOT with this one guys 😂 specially with the whispered “I need u”
I love how invested y'all get with these movies
Y’all need to do Onward or Treasure Planet! Both have amazing messages ❤
Never seen reactors find Hal funny before, he's scarily realistic and extremely creepy.
I find him funny but in this weird haha ugh type of way. It's pathetic funny. You know when you look at someone and you're just like wowww haha what a knob. He's very real and very creepy but hilariously pathetic.
Megamind is great
agreed
I would pay a lot of money I don't have for you guys to react to these animated movies:
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire
- Treasure Planet
- Titan A.E.
- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
- Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
All you wrote are SO good :)
@@TheCigam09 It's like a golden age of great animated movies that were too much ahead from their own time.
Imagine if we had gotten more animated movies like this...
One of my favourite films, glad you guys have come across it now
Excellent reaction! Amazing!
