i didn't notice til years later that if you look in the King and Queens bedroom it's filled with lilly pads and frog decor, some light hearted forshadowing🥰
The song Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows was actually written for this movie’s soundtrack and was nominated for an Academy Award for best original song. Unfortunately, it didn’t win the award, but the song that won that year, “Al otro lado del rio”, was performed by Antonio Banderas if that makes you feel any better 😉.
I love that 85% of this reaction was just you all pointing and shout-laughing at all the references because same! No matter how many times I see this movie I point and laugh at every one 🤣
Did anyone get that "what in Grimm's name are you doing here"? Cause the Brothers Grimm wrote so many of these fairy tales, it's the fairy godmother's version of "what in God's name" 😂😂
@@cosesu8929 If you want to be "that guy" at least get it right. They DID write them. That's the whole point. They were folk tales before and they collected and WROTE them down. Does that make them the "god"(s) of the fairy tale world? I guess that depends. They didn't invent the stories themselves, but they DID create the version of these stories that are still known today (if they hadn't written them down, they'd likely changed a lot more over time).
Its so funny you guys immediately said that prince Charming looks like Jamie Lannister, cause when GoT came out everyone made that comparison, but the other way. 😂❤😂
Shrek 2 is absolutely deserving to be involved in any conversation about the greatest sequels in movie history. For me, everything about it is top notch, and it's only time I have actually literally fallen out of my chair laughing at the cinema!
Funnily, Dragon was originally meant to be used for breaking into the castle but the directors decided against it as it was too easy since she's OP, so was replaced by Mongo the Giant Gingerbread Man. Mongo was also gonna be destructive and roar from the get go but he came off as unsympathetic, so he was made childish and dumb until he was provoked and then became kaiju-like, Godzilla roar and all.
I still have the magazine interview just before GoT came out and they were on set with the cast. The interviewer told Nickolaj Coster-Waldau if he realized he looked just like the Prince from Shrek. He absolutely did realize it. 😊
On a rewatch, if you slow it down, you can actually SEE the knight holding the catnip before he cuffs puss! Puss wasn’t lying, the catnip wasn’t his! This is in reference to scenes like this actually happening on the cops show sometimes
The funniest part of watching this is watching all of y'all lose your minds laughing, LOL!!! You missed some references for sure because y'all were cracking up so badly. You NEED to watch it again!
My favourite thing about this movie, and maybe any movie ever, is the female frog in the bar asking the king if she knows him from somewhere. At the time, that question doesn't really make sense. Not until we finally find out at the end that the king is actually a frog who was turned into a human king. So the lady frog from the bar recognizes him from when he was a frog. Such a clever way to set it up
At the time, the question is meant to make the audience think that she's just recognizing him as the king, and it also gives Shrek a reason to take notice of him.
Fun little fact for you. The voice of the King is John Cleese, who starred in a popular UK comedy called Fawlty Towers. In that show, his character Basil often complained about an "old war wound" bothering him - so King Harold saying his Crusade wound was playing up is a very fun callback for us classic British comedy fans. I loved the first time I watched this and immediately got that reference ❤
Shrek 2 is definitely a fave of most, I love it so much! Fun fact: Jennifer Saunders, the fairy godmother, was nervous recording "I Need A Hero". But it became iconic almost more then the original and is such a big one for us who grew up with it. I still have it in my music lists I love it so much! Antonio Banderas kills it and made me a huge fan.
Ha! I also noticed only this time (I watched it two days ago after watching the guy's reaction to the first movie) that the queen's name is Lillian! lol
i still remember when mcdonald's had donkey and dragon's babies as a toy in the happy meal, and they all had wings you could make move and they had sounds they made too!!😭
You guys got nearly all of the references the only one I’d say you missed was the bubbles : fairy godmother first appears in a giant bubble to Fiona - which is a reference to the Wizard of Oz and the ‘good witch’ Glenda who first appears in a giant floating bubble to Dorthy before she gets her slippers
Yes, in a way the message of Shrek 2 was reaffirming the message of the original [when Shrek told Fiona she was beautiful] because Fiona was given the choice to turn back human at the end of Shrek 2, and she chose to remain an ogre who is happy and loved.
@@traydevon All of the Shrek movies are Shrek proving his love for Fiona, his love for her drives him to be a better person in each film. it's actually really sweet. And yes, loads of messages about self love and acceptance.
I absolutely loved this reaction. I've never seen another reactor get as many of the references as you guys did. In fact, I've never seen anyone else get the white bronco chase at all. It was such a pleasure to see someone else understand as many of these as you. 👍👍
Omg I watched this a lot as a kid and never went back to it and now watching it with you guys as an adult... THE AMOUNT OF ADULT JOKES AND REFERENCES I MISSED OMG The OJ bronco? totally flew past my head as a kid. The Lord of the Rings reference? Amazing It's such a cult classic I can't believe I've never watched it again as an adult 😭
It's not underrated at all - it's probably the one film everyone says they like most from the Shrek franchise. It's memed back to hell and forth. If there's an underrated Shrek movie, it's probably the one with Rumplestiltskin.
shrek 2 is my favorite shrek movie , it teaches such a good lesson that external beauty doesnt equal happiness and to a young girl that really stood out for me
Shrek 2 is in that small, prestigious group of sequels that are better than the original. This is my all-time favorite comfort movie, even 20 years later. So happy you finally got to see it...and the meme 😂
Movie was a riot! And as someone who has had cats my whole life and has been watching Desperado from the far too youngest age, Puss in Boots was just the best addition!
Just to be clear, Fiona's father was the Frog Prince, which isn't a huge surprise if you're paying attention: the Queen's name is Lily, their bedroom is full of pond and lily pad motifs, they mentioned they first met at the pond where they had their first kiss, and the female frog at The Poison Apple thought she recognized him.
2:47 It's not just Accidentally in Love. Every single song in that movie is just perfect. One of the references you missed was the love potion. It was labelled IX. As in Love Potion Number 9.
I think this movie was the king fu panda of the earth 2000s. It takes fairy tail ideas / motifs and flips the script and takes the “flipping of the script” as a theme and BOOM we have the Shrek series!
I love how just EVERYONE sees the Jaime Lannister resemblance in Prince Charming.... It was literally my first thought when watching the first episode of Game of Thrones ...
There was actually an interview with the creators that said dragon was turned into a pegasus! I love that this means that dragon is donkey's true love ❤
This movie is SO good for rewatching. When the king goes to the pub, the female frog comments on him looking familiar. There's SO much little setups for later paying off!
I will always maintain that next to Hunger Games Catching Fire, Shrek 2 is one the THE best sequels of all time. All the pop culture references were amazingly added, the new characters are freaking awesome, and like Mason said, they took everything from the first one and improved upon it! And of course, it has one of the best covers of literally all time withe the Fairy God Mother's "Holding Out for a Hero". You can't get better than that! You can tell everyone just had so much fun making this film. Such an amazing movie! Also, since you guys are dipping your toes into musicals (since Hamilton) it might be really cool to wrap up this franchise with Shrek! The Musical!! It's one of my favorite musicals personally, and it takes the first Shrek movie and gives it a lot more depth and emotion and highlights everything amazing about the movie and makes it fantastic! It's just as hilarious and fun as Shrek, but with some incredible musical numbers!! The songs are AMAZING! I think you guys would like it!!
Catching Fire the book was awesome. I found myself bored with the film several times, and I feel like it would be incredibly confusing for anyone who didn't read the book first. The intro parts felt way too drawn out, and the actual excitement of being in the arena feels very skipped over. That's just my opinion though. My dislike for it was enough that I've still never watched another film in the series to this day.
The PS2 video game for this movie was so fun, one of the games from my childhood that I beat the most. 💚 I'm still so upset the game disc went missing.
I love when the three little pigs say "I see London, I see France" because it's something me and my siblings used to say a lot when their underpants was showing. It's a nursery rhyme, I think. In full it goes "I see London, I see France, I see (someone)'s underpants!" So the pig was saying he was seeing the fairy Godmother's underpants without actually saying it 😂
Your faces when they started in with OJ chase scene cracked me up hard. "Flabbergasted" seems like the right descriptor. 😂 I was hoping that you would catch that Antonio Banderas was doing a parody of his own Zorro character, but maybe you haven't seen those films.
The. Best. Final. Act. In. Animated. Cinema. History. Jennifer Saunders absolutely NAILS Holding out for a Hero. I think there is some footage of her recording it out there somewhere.
You guys laughed so much kore and much harder during shrek2!!!! How is it that the first one is still better ;D i love all of the films but the second is legendary ;) thanks for your reactions! You’re a great squad!
One of the best soundtracks in an animated movie, better animation and action, even funnier than Shrek 1 with some of the best spoofs, introduction to the best cat in cinema. This movie really is a materpiece. The rest of the Shrek franchise.... well, it was always impossible to top this I suppose. As for the two Puss in Boots movies they came out later, 11 years apart. The first one is a Shrek Prequel, the second a Shrek sequel. It's the second one you hear all the praise for, and it's extremely well deserved.
Hello there. This is Sandra from Argentina. English is not my first language, so I hope this is ok. Just to tell you guys that I always look for your reactions. You all are funny, accurate, sensible and sensitive . Keep going!!

I love that they are having so much fun with my favorite movie EVER.. I didn't even realize I was smiling so hard at their reactions 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shrek reached its peak with this movie. This one is my absolute favorite.
This is one of my favorite Shrek sequels!
I have seen shrek and shrek 2 way too many times in my life. Shrek 2 might be one of the greatest sequels of all time.
I absolutely loved this reaction. I've never seen another reactor get as many of the references as you guys did. In fact, I've never seen anyone else get the white bronco chase at all. It was such a pleasure to see someone else understand as many of these as you. 👍👍
"Accidentally in Love" was written for this movie
One of the few times where a sequel is as good or better than the original
Omg I watched this a lot as a kid and never went back to it and now watching it with you guys as an adult... THE AMOUNT OF ADULT JOKES AND REFERENCES I MISSED OMG
The OJ bronco? totally flew past my head as a kid.
The Lord of the Rings reference? Amazing
It's such a cult classic I can't believe I've never watched it again as an adult 😭
I absolutely love watching movies I saw as a kid, because sooo much goes over your head. For me, it was blazing saddles. Lol.
Shrek 2 is my favorite of the series. Glad to see the guys were cracking up the whole time. Fun reaction.
The Saunders diet break was ICONIC!
I recommend Absolutely Fabulous to everyone for peak London snob stereotypes 😂
Love AbFab!!!
a criminally underrated film. People keep looking at it like "oh ew shrek, an animated kid's movie" but this is legit a masterpiece of a film.
Underrated??? Be serious 🤌😭
It's not underrated at all - it's probably the one film everyone says they like most from the Shrek franchise. It's memed back to hell and forth.
If there's an underrated Shrek movie, it's probably the one with Rumplestiltskin.
Let’s be honest, Shrek was more for adults 😂😂😂
@@kenjinpiniteu In my opinion it is the 3 one.
Imagine calling Shrek underrated 🤡
shrek 2 is my favorite shrek movie , it teaches such a good lesson that external beauty doesnt equal happiness and to a young girl that really stood out for me
Shrek 2 is in that small, prestigious group of sequels that are better than the original. This is my all-time favorite comfort movie, even 20 years later. So happy you finally got to see it...and the meme 😂
It took me until today to realize the "ugly step sister" in the pub was the voice of Larry King. Brilliant.
I didn't realize it was Larry King lol that's perfect
The greatest sequel ever made tbh
I always thought that Mungo was a reference to Blazing Saddles. He talked just like Mungo from the movie
I completely missed that. Excellent catch!
You guys uploads actually make my day. The only youtubers that can make me stop what I'm doing to watch lol. Love the consistency guys! x
We appreciate this and thanks for spending some of your time with us 🤙
I think this movie was the king fu panda of the earth 2000s.
Not even five minutes in, and I'm GRINNING watching these men lose it in the intro. Couldn't click this fast enough 😂❤
28:23 how did i just now notice Pinocchio's head turned a complete 180° 😂
Wish we was told what dragon turned into when donkey was a horse. One of the biggest mysteries of the Shrek movies.
There was actually an interview with the creators that said dragon was turned into a pegasus! I love that this means that dragon is donkey's true love ❤
@@jessfusco8 Oh now that is so cool. And yeah I'm happy that they are truly meant to be or soul mates, however you wanna word it lol
My dislike for it was enough that I've still never watched another film in the series to this day.
the Lannister Prince Charming meme is just a mere one of the greatest things to come outta this movie haha.
'its a thong!' is probably my favorite.
The PS2 video game for this movie was so fun, one of the games from my childhood that I beat the most. 💚 I'm still so upset the game disc went missing.
I love how much fun y'all had with this MASTERPIECE! It's definitely a FAMILY movie, not a KIDS movie.
I love when the three little pigs say "I see London, I see France" because it's something me and my siblings used to say a lot when their underpants was showing. It's a nursery rhyme, I think. In full it goes "I see London, I see France, I see (someone)'s underpants!"
So the pig was saying he was seeing the fairy Godmother's underpants without actually saying it 😂
The COPS skit is my fave skit ever.
Your faces when they started in with OJ chase scene cracked me up hard. "Flabbergasted" seems like the right descriptor. 😂
I was hoping that you would catch that Antonio Banderas was doing a parody of his own Zorro character, but maybe you haven't seen those films.
The. Best. Final. Act. In. Animated. Cinema. History. Jennifer Saunders absolutely NAILS Holding out for a Hero. I think there is some footage of her recording it out there somewhere.
Just starting this reaction and already I cant with how much youre laughing BABHAHAHAHAHA
Love that yall are finally watching the shrek series!!! My favorite react channel‼️
The first two Shrek movies are *GOLD* standard.
You guys laughed so much kore and much harder during shrek2!!!! How is it that the first one is still better ;D i love all of the films but the second is legendary ;) thanks for your reactions! You’re a great squad!
When Game of Thrones was first airing, there were a ton of memes about Jaimie looking like Prince Charming lol
When the conversation about perfect sequels comes up, this movie is always at the top of my list.
14:50
Donkey: did I missed
Shrek: no you got them
Prince Charming looks like a Lunch Lady at the Start. And Most Handsome.
😅
Love how the first few minutes of this reaction is them going: ...........HA! ............HA! .............HA!
Lots of references to be spotted!
