"Does King Triton know about other Worlds?" "It's implied but never explicitly stated." King Triton: "As a Keyblade Wielder you must already know! One should not meddle in the affairs of other Worlds!"
I genuinely adore Kingdom Hearts so finding this series after binging Monty's main channel was so fun. Please keep Lore Dump going, guys. GREAT content.
1:40 Neil, sounding slightly nervous but, indeed, excited, fresh-faced, and ready to go: “Hello! 😃 … I know this will be my entire weekend!” Oh past-Neil, you sweet, naive boy. You thought this would only be a weekend. And now. You’re stuck with us. >:) lol
The comedic value of how chase is explaining this game cannot be understated tho some key stuff was imo both omitted and explained a little early chase did a fantastic job this podcast and this episode are gold so happy i stumbled onto this channel ❤
Source for this? Wiki says in the manga he tells the reader he was approached to join but told them to f off, nothing about him joining and then betraying them
Heartless aren’t “people without hearts” as Leon said, but just simply hearts that fell to darkness, and the nobodies are the bodies without hearts created from the fall of darkness. Just getting in so sorry if that gets clarified
I just have to say thank you for these podcasts! I did a Kingdom Hearts Retrospective panel at a convention this weekend and binged your whole series to prepare! Couldn't have pulled it off without you! This has quickly become my favorite podcast series on TH-cam!
Something important that I think was missed (Unless I wasn't paying attention): Heartless don't die, unless you use a Keyblade. That's one of the reasons it's so important. You can beat the shit out of them, and destroy the body, but it'll just sorta dissipate and reform again later. This is a pretty big deal, as Leon comes from a world where there was no Keyblade wielder, and so when heartless showed up, they were Fucked, and everyone died except Squall, who changed his name to Leon for some broody emo reason.
They could have had Ariel be a Princess of Heart and just have her get turned into a human form when she gets kidnapped by Maleficent since she gets legs in the movie
Clearly the best way to ingest this lore, with other people shouting and laughing at the explainer. Why is this perfect for this game? Because if they didn't do these things you would feel crazy for thinking them at home.
35:08 Olympus Colosseum has an unintentionally funny moment in Kingdom Hearts 2 where you hear a crowd cheering Hercules fighting monsters but there's nobody sitting in the seats. Later the hydra destroys the Colosseum and Hercules acts like it killed people but again there's no one there.
Day [redacted] of re-watching all of these every time I need a dose of these videos from my good, good Comfort Lore Bois: My mental illness burst in with an Eminem music sting “this looks like a job for me” so we back at it again, I guess. As always, very glad these are here, even if at this point I feel a bit weird about the fact that I can quote every word from the introductory 3 minutes of this video.
Just completed all of this. Every, single, one. Absolutely amazing. I would pay good money for the script and slides so I can do the same with my friends. No matter what though, you guys are amazing!!
"Ansem was basically a terrible person and did a bunch of experiments on children." Yeah, but have you seen those shredded abs? Still would. Also "And the barriers return, and Sora is caught forever IN A 15 MINUTE UNSKIPPABLE CREDITS SEQUENCE."
Just finished binging all the Lore Dumps about a week ago. After a quick break listening to the Noobus series, I’m happy to put this on in the background again
Incorrect, the Batwing sword (Soul Eater) is actually a keyblade, but it's not fully formed for a few reasons. UX reveals keyblades can actually grow and evolve in complexity (like pokemon can) so his little batwing's kinda like a baby keyblade. Shit depends on one's heart, experiences, and strength of heart (completeness of self identity)
I keep coming back to this lore dump series because I love kingdom hearts, and you guys have such great personalities. The quote “Also cloud from FF7 is here” “No he’s not!” Kills me every time
I still have a brand new copy of the HD remix and KH3 sitting on my shelf waiting for me to play. After this amazing breakdown, I think I'll finally crack into them. I loved these games on the PS2, ridiculously convoluted lore and all. I think KH2 will always be my favorite. Thanks for the awesome videos! Can't wait to listen to the rest!
Commenting for the algorithm. But I also wanted to say that KH 1’s world building is kinda underrated. Like, you can find an answer to (almost) any question you have about the game within the game itself. It takes a lot of effort, and you have to buy into the world. But it’s doable. In comparison to every other game in the franchise, the story is actually quite simple and clean (pun intended).
I enjoy these games a little bit at face value, but even when the entire story and lore is explained to me, I'm just like "WUT IN THE ACTUAL F$&K ARE YOU SAYING TO ME?! ARE YOU INSULTING ME?! WHAT ARE THESE WORDS COMING OUT OF YOUR FACE?!" Lol I don't even try to understand it.
Yet another bonus thought as I play this in the background. Near the end of Hollow Bastion, the boys mention that Riku's Keyblade of Heart would be the only one that can open the final door and Sora'a couldn't, leading y'all to wonder what the plan was in the first place. I get the impression (especially in this game) that Maleficent is like someone who hears about or reads the legends of lore and charts a path to the power of the myths. Like she heard about the power of the princesses and the key that can unlock the path to true power, so she starts rounding stuff up. By contrast, the robed figure that possesses Riku doesn't just seem to know OF the legends... He seems to be deeply KNOW the legends. Like Maleficent has read about it, but Ansem knows it firsthand. It's one of the things that makes him scary in the first game... You spend all this time seeing Maleficent and thinking she's a threat, but then you see that she's just a cat chasing a ball of yarn and Ansem is someone who really, truly understands the forces at play here. For anyone familiar with Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door, I get heavy Grodus / Shadow Sirens & Queen vibes from the Maleficent / Ansem vibe in KH1.
These reuploads are a great excuse to go back and experience their exasperation while already knowing how much they will go on to love Chanteal (the canonical great^x grandfather of Axel) and best boy Roxas.
i know this is almost two years old now, but the reason why Sora didn't lock the keyhole on Destiny Islands is because the heartless were already at the Heart of the world and consuming it, hence why the door blows open and darkness comes spilling out, blowing Sora out of the cave
Sweetness, now I can dedicate my listening videos to this channel and my watching attention to your main videos. Thank you, Monty, Chase, and Niell. Or should I say Chontiell lol Love all ya'll's content.
Dude I’ve always got the games and never played them through but I always wanted to know the story line. These videos combined with y’all’s humor is gold. 😂
1:39:57 And that's the end of Maleficent being treated as a threat in the series. In every other game she just makes empty threats to get revenge on Sora.
Looked this up on a whim one day, blasted through the entire series, and now I’m listening to it again with knowledge of all the games etc. I bought the package on Switch (sans MoM), all the volumes of the Days manga and a pre-3 Ultimania, and I’m planning to expand my print collection by buying the CoM manga (or maybe light novels, haven’t decided) next. I also downloaded Union X just for posterity. Your artful retelling of the series in release order (proper order to find out about things) and you graciously and effortlessly answering Monty and Neil’s questions whenever they had them really helped me understand the overarching plot better than if I just went into the series with no knowledge beforehand. I’m so glad I found this. Thank you, Chase, for getting me into this series!
I mean in Harry Potter, the reason the sacrificial love works to protect Harry is not because Lilly was the first person to sacrifice herself. Its because she was the firsr person we know of to sacrifice herself after being given the option to save her own life. Voldemort tells her to step aside and he will let her live. That option is what creates the protection. Also we don't know that this type of magic hasn't been used before, just that it hasn't been used before against someone using the killing curse. Also this type of protection only works against one person. Meaning Lilly only protects Harry specifically from Voldemort. So like any Death Eater could have killed Harry.
Also, the Disney worlds are totally not important but I just find this funny: in Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts wants to chop off Alice's head for the crimes of "assault and attempted theft of my heart". Sora jumps in because he knows it's the Heartless. The Queen tasks him with collecting evidence to prove Alice's innocence. You then run around, exploring and finding boxes of evidence that the Heartless were there. You show up to the court and give 1-4 boxes of evidence, and then the Queen adds 1-4 boxes of her own so that there are 5 in total between yours and hers. She then decides that it'd be too much trouble to look at it all and commands you to pick one at random. You grab one and, if it's your evidence, she gets mad that you made her look bad and declares the heroes to be the assailants. If it's her evidence, then it implicates Donald and/or Goofy and they get imprisoned during the miniboss fight. It's not important in the slightest, but it's the kind of silly manic energy that makes Wonderland one of the few interesting Disney worlds in these games, in my opinion, on top of exploring around a room and finding the direction of gravity changes depending on which doorway you use to enter.
This channel is hilarious. Started with the control videos and saw there was a kingdom hearts series and couldn't resist entering the maw of madness that is its lore.
I will say now - I love the Kingdom Hearts series, so I'm excited to hear/watch this! Quote a comment that sums up why I love this series and it's story - I've realized something about my thoughts on KH's story: It's just genuine. A genuinely heartfelt story. No matter what batshit insane ideas Nomura comes up with in the long run, I *CARE* for these characters and their struggles. Hell, I can't even count how many times I cried at the ending segments of KH3.
Hey! It’s Monty - quick comment to say… stick with the series because Neil and I DEFINITELY come around. We still think it’s dumb and silly but when we get to the closing chapters we are IN. This was also our first experiment with the new format (3 of us) so it takes a while for us to get the audio mixing and pacing right. Getting better all the time! But I still find these early episodes rough
You didnt really explain the heartless all too well. The regular Shadow enemies are Purebloods like Darkside. So is Invisible. Pureblood Heartless dont have hearts, and when they eat a heart they do change into Emblem Heartless. Purebloods are Pure Darkness, but Emblems cant exist without a heart.
I don't know if anyone else has explained this in the comments, but the reason why the Destiny Island Trio thinks there are other worlds is because Kairi, the milquetoast love interest, is from another world. She fell from the sky one night in the middle of a meteor shower with anime amnesia. The boys concluded that she must be from another world and somehow get into their head that they can go to those other worlds by raft. Kairi decides to join them- interestingly enough, it doesn't really seem like she joined in the whole raft idea because she wanted to return to the homeworld she's forgotten, but more because she's a friend enabling her other friends' terrible decisions. Also, Kairi doesn't really turn Sora back into a human, she just somehow gave his human form back. He's still a Heartless, just a Sora-shaped one. His body has still been left behind, which is how Roxas exists.
I just want to say, I believe there isn't much lore importance or anything about Shadow Sora, it's basically just doing the Peter Pan's Shadow thing + Heartless Edit: Yeah, Mickey's Keyblade is ugly as shit. That's why it's piss yellow, and the Keyblade he had before Kingdom Key D and will have after Kingdom Key D are much better.
Found yall on the remedy-verse videos. But i heard about this. Im here to scrutinize your KH lore. 😆 i know its early but im hoping yall mention the Sleeping Worlds Theory in KH3
I'm relistening to this for fun, and I just wanna add one glorious tidbit. When Sora meets Donald and Goofy and they're trying to convince Sora to go on their spaceship with them, Sora wistfully wonders if it would help him find Kairi and Riku. Some somber silence follows, at which point Donald proudly proclaims "Of course!!" Sora looks surprised, and Goofy whispers to Donald "Really? You think so?" And Donald whispers back "Who knows? But we need him to come with us if we're gonna find the King." DONALD IS THE EFFING WORST IN THESE GAMES. HE'S SUCH A LITTLE SHIT.
Past Neil: "I know that it's my whole weekend!" Future me: "Oh...Poor sweet Neil...you have you idea the number of weekends you will be with us now. Kingdom Hearts and beyond. MUAHAHAHAH! Just wait till you see yourself be in the chair for the Red Dead franchise! It will be MAGNIFICENT! YES!!!!
Ok, i understand what they mean by the Disney worlds not being important to the plot overall, but they are still important to the story because it builds out the characters and they're thematic to most of the games. To say the Disney worlds dont matter, to me, is the same as saying the character growth doesn't matter. But, i won't argue that to the overall, overarching plot, they arent as important
Wait if Rikus body is changed to Ansem heartless...how does the heart dictate the form if it's a heartless though... wouldn't it have to be Normal non-heartless Ansem? Or Terra technically?
Well. In my ignorance, I thought you know what? Now as an adult woman I’ve watched all the lore dump episodes, I’ve watched the play throughs, I understand the game mechanics, have a shiny new PS5, and I’ve become a fair bit better at video games since I was 12, I bet you I can play this no problem and enjoy it. ~*cut to me STILL getting my ass kicked by Riku on Destiny Island, still flailing Sora about like I’m back on my PS2, and rage quitting boss battles two worlds in.*~WHY DO I STILL LOVE THIS GAME 😂😂
Goofy is an anthropomorphic dog. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goofy#:~:text=He%20is%20a%20tall%2C%20anthropomorphic,designed%20as%20a%20rumpled%20fedora. He is also known as Canis Gooficus in Latin according to Google. “Canis” is derived from “Canine” I’m sure.
This was funny to listen to and Kingdom Hearts is full of convuluted nonsense at times. However for a "lore dump" video this was pretty badly explained... For example in terms of kh1 keyblade weilders are so rare that its a big deal when one appears. Riku was supposed to obtain the keyblade in Destiny Islands but since he embraced the darkness the keyblade literally decided to choose sora instead who was next to him at the time. Malificent didnt know which characters were princesses of light and was literally travelling to many many worlds to find them. Its not explained yet but shes been searching for 10 years. She knows they are required to open the artifical keyhole in Hollow Bastian but i guess wasnt aware the hearts would craft a keyblade to do so. So its fortunate that riku who is a natural keyblade weilder was around with her. Completing this keyhole caused alot of darkness to flow out which actually causes stronger heartless to spill out and appear on all worlds at this time. Each disney world has a purpose and not all bad guys of the worlds know of the bad guy group motivations. Wonderland is where you discover wacky rules present in each world and also where the first princess (sora sees) gets kidnapped. Deep jungle teaches us what happens when you lose your heart because you went too far into the darkness (clayton) and the themes of keeping friends in your hearts. Olympus is about the strength of ones heart. Agrabah is where plot points start being spelled out. Atlantica is clearly very important but unfortunately has not been revealed why triton is aware of other worlds and keyblade weilders yet. Etc. Every world has a keyhole and they wont reveal themselves under normal circumstances unless you are a keyblade wielder which is why young Riku was able to see the keyhole as a child after sora left the cavern. Sora didnt physically give the paopu fruit to kairi but etched a pattern of him doing so in the cavern which she acknowledges in the credits and reciprocate the notion too which is basically the same as them sharing the real fruit. Theres are 2 types of heartless. Pureblood which are those naturally born from lost hearts or live in the realm of darkness. And artifical heartless which were created from Ansems experiments and machines. They are functionally the same but the artifical ones are able to adapt to surroundings of the worlds and take on powerful forms. Lastly it wasnt mentioned that the Enigmatic Man appears in Hollow Bastian after the keyhole is locked. His fight/encounter with sora is extremely important for the following games plotlines. The game story is really good and id argue it only turns to absolute retcon nonsense when time travel is involved in DDD. Again i enjoyed listening to the video but i think it could be explained a bit better in areas.
The in-universe reason was that he renamed himself after the Hollow Bastion incident, because of feeling like a failure, not being able to protect his home, or something similar to that.
As I listen to Chase explain the story of Kingdom Hearts, I remember why I quit out after Kingdom Hearts 2. I distinctly remember thinking, "This is too much. " I don't think I had ever had a moment in life , where after playing any video game I felt like I was losing a sumo match.
I know this a bit older, but about the Harry Potter death curse thing at around 01:53:30 I'd guess this has never happened in the history of ever before, because nobody else was as much of a dumba** as Voldemort. I mean, seriously, when there is at least one decently powerful wizard, a potential threat, left (Harry's mom), who in the ever loving f*** decides to kill the random baby sitting around doing absolutely f*** all? 😂
This sounds like a TH-camr explaining the crapy fan fics they wrote as a child… wait I just found out the ultimate secret in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts is a fan fiction.
*DISCLAIMER*
Thanks for being here! This episode is a reupload, transferring our backlog of Lore Dumps from the Monty Zander youtube channel.
That explains why it no longer shows I watched the videos lol
I have lost count of how many times I have watched the KH Lore Dumps
"Does King Triton know about other Worlds?"
"It's implied but never explicitly stated."
King Triton: "As a Keyblade Wielder you must already know! One should not meddle in the affairs of other Worlds!"
“Does Sora have an organ heart?
“Um…y-y’know….”
Killed me
Here we go again.
This series kinda became my happy place on yt and I just keep rewatching the entire thing every couple of months. Thank you.
I genuinely adore Kingdom Hearts so finding this series after binging Monty's main channel was so fun. Please keep Lore Dump going, guys. GREAT content.

Just a fun tidbit: the cheshire cat is the member of the shadow for Wonderland. He both joins and instanty betrays them for the lolz
Source for this? Wiki says in the manga he tells the reader he was approached to join but told them to f off, nothing about him joining and then betraying them
I'm so happy that you made a channel for lore dump!
I am so happy you subscribed before we uploaded any new episodes - thank you!!

1:22 As soon as you go into Neverland Sora's Shadow is missing, that's what Dark Sora is
I hope Neil sticks around for future Lore Dumps. He's got a fun energy.
They confirm it in a later episode 🍻

Kh lore dumps are still such a comfort media! Keeping the anxiety away while trying to sleep 😊 Hopefully there's silent hill lore dump incoming~

It's Donald's magic that changes there outfits.

Fun fact: the voice actor for Genie in KH is the same voice actor for Homer Simpson
Time to rewatch the kh lore dumps!
Theres a scene in KH1 traverse town where the base heartless eats a heart and upgrades, right?
A soldier heartless does this. It doesnt upgrade itself on doing it though. Just zaps the heart out, engulfs it and then disappears

Before KH:UnionX 'huh interesting"
After UnionX: "HOLD UP!"
Here after the Remedy and Bioshock lore dumps. Had to drop in to say Ariel’s dad is King TRITON not trident 😂 he’s the son of Poseidon.
The hardest bosses in the main KH games go Sephiroth in 1, Lingering Will in 2 and Yozora in 3.

Goofy is always a turtle because he uses a shield.
If Chase is Mickey , does that make Monyy Goofy and Neil Donald?
I'm back for my yearly (sometimes bi-yearly) listen to you guys's KH series lore dump! I'll reply here each time I do this!
I just want to say, I believe there isn't much lore importance or anything about Shadow Sora, it's basically just doing the Peter Pan's Shadow thing + Heartless
Edit: Yeah, Mickey's Keyblade is ugly as shit. That's why it's piss yellow, and the Keyblade he had before Kingdom Key D and will have after Kingdom Key D are much better.
i find it funny that i'm playing kingdom heats as i listen to this
Found yall on the remedy-verse videos.
Some somber silence follows, at which point Donald proudly proclaims "Of course!!"
Sora looks surprised, and Goofy whispers to Donald "Really? You think so?"
And Donald whispers back "Who knows? But we need him to come with us if we're gonna find the King."
DONALD IS THE EFFING WORST IN THESE GAMES. HE'S SUCH A LITTLE SHIT.
Past Neil: "I know that it's my whole weekend!"
Future me: "Oh...Poor sweet Neil...you have you idea the number of weekends you will be with us now.
Sucks you didn’t cover the hidden boss but makes sense why lol. Im enjoying this as someone who played everything but kh3 and afterwords
Wait if Rikus body is changed to Ansem heartless...how does the heart dictate the form if it's a heartless though... wouldn't it have to be Normal non-heartless Ansem? Or Terra technically?
I found the reactions of like WTF to be hilarious
time to listen to these again
We love Lore Dump in this house!
I’m now just continuously relistening tell new ones come out😂
Dade Nelson has the right idea, commenting on this rewatch for the algorithm on each video
Ansem is a stand user. Stand name owner of a lonely heart
Goofy is an anthropomorphic dog.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goofy#:~:text=He%20is%20a%20tall%2C%20anthropomorphic,designed%20as%20a%20rumpled%20fedora.
He is also known as Canis Gooficus in Latin according to Google. “Canis” is derived from “Canine” I’m sure.
Beautiful format!
Did these get re-uploaded? Here i go again...
I come back here every time I need something to listen to while I'm at work, and need a good laugh
Rewatchable as heckin Steamboat Willie
It's been 3 months, I'm back again >:3
I agree with Neil that the Gunblade is the dumbest thing i've ever seen.
A series where a new game gets released to answer smart-alec questions? How is that a downside Monty?
there's, like, over 33 hours of these...
this is gonna take awhile
13:05 The skip 🤣
Landlord maleficent lmao
Did they rename Squall to Leon in this game? What did they do to my boy!
The in-universe reason was that he renamed himself after the Hollow Bastion incident, because of feeling like a failure, not being able to protect his home, or something similar to that.
Goofy is in fact not a cow
Goofy IS a dog not a cow
I'm now watching these on this channel to help it out
As I listen to Chase explain the story of Kingdom Hearts, I remember why I quit out after Kingdom Hearts 2. I distinctly remember thinking, "This is too much. " I don't think I had ever had a moment in life , where after playing any video game I felt like I was losing a sumo match.
I know this a bit older, but about the Harry Potter death curse thing at around 01:53:30
I'd guess this has never happened in the history of ever before, because nobody else was as much of a dumba** as Voldemort. I mean, seriously, when there is at least one decently powerful wizard, a potential threat, left (Harry's mom), who in the ever loving f*** decides to kill the random baby sitting around doing absolutely f*** all? 😂
🎉🎉🎉
This sounds like a TH-camr explaining the crapy fan fics they wrote as a child… wait I just found out the ultimate secret in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts is a fan fiction.
❤❤❤❤
