PART 2 - THE DLC AND AMERICAN NIGHTMARE th-cam.com/video/CP0b5CoAB7w/w-d-xo.html As promised, here's the Old Gods of Asgard (Poets of the Fall) song we discuss in Part 4! th-cam.com/video/GLxb7m0j5Jg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=OldGodsofAsgard-Topic
I find it amazing how Remedy, having to lower down their expectations for this game because of budget and time, were able to make such an amazing work with such iconic songs and scenes. Also I like to imagine what they felt in the studio the first time they heard this song, it must have been a great time to be working there.
This got me hooked. I started listening while working and found myself completely engrossed in everything. I had only played a few hours of control and hadn’t touched quantum or Alan wake before but now I am enthralled. Kudos to Monty for his story telling, you can really feel his passion for the game shine through and kudos to Chase and Neil, there’s was a distinct part where they switched from making fun of everything to you really being able to tell they were getting engrossed. Also Chase and Neil’s one-liners and Kingdom Hearts references really made me belly laugh. Felt like an old campfire story with friends. Great episode guys, you have no idea how excited I am for the next one now.
I hope you mention that the funniest thing about the Old Gods of Asgard songs is that they just flat out tell you the plot, and give you your next objective. Delivering the in-game lore dumps in rock song form is such an inspired choice. Take Control is so f*cking good.
Dylan from Control: " In one World, there is a Writer who wrote about a Cop. In another world, the Cop was real." Dylan about the Dreams that are "very real".
God I can't wait for Alan Wake 2. I still have to play Control before it comes out though. Also as someone who's played Alan Wake a million times the impressions of the characters in the opening are SPOT ON.
Oh my god. The manuscript page from Zane about the clicker (around 2:25:00) perfectly follows the explanation of Control on how Objects of Power are created. You have a physical representation of a Jungian Archetype (the Lightswitch, something, that literally turns on lights) given power by the strong believe in it's paranatural properties (it "turns off" the darkness). Excuse me if I'm talking bullshit, it's like 8 am and I haven't slept. My brain feels like it's nom nom'd by a scary lake.
Yeah the clicker IS an object of power and a extremly powerful one at that, just like how Alan is a parautilitarian (telepresence and precognition, he can see the future and the present which he used in his writings) which makes him extremly powerful in the dark place because the dark place cannot create things but it can change them, influence them and having someone that can see the future is pretty useful with that powerset
1:40:00 Actually I am fairly sure that there is a manuscript page that mentions the Anderson brothers helped the other patients escape from Hartman's clinic, with there being some mention of Tor raising his hammer and the lightning which comes down scaring away the Taken and Dark Presence.
Handguns are genuinely good to have when you go hunting in deep woods, to deal with or to just scare off Snake's, badgers, coyotes. Also sometimes you don't have your rifle or shotgun on you if your just hiking or setting up a blind, but if your responsibly open carrying a handgun it can save you from a bear, mountain lion or other predetors. You probably won't kill it, but you could scare it off.
bruh unless high caliber mag a handgun will not save you from a brown bear that wants to attack you. Nor would you need one for black bears (if for whatever reason one attacks you could very likely fend them off)
@DuckysMediaShowcase believe it or not, black bears attack people too. They don't tend to kill, but on average, they have killed someone once every 2.03 years. Brown bears, kodiaks, and grizzlies still feel pain and can be surprised by loud noises. If you aren't threatening their den or their cubs than they can easily be detered. Bears are tough. But they ain't invincible, nor do they have the abnormal geometry and bone density of an alligator. Bear spray is better (and more humane), but a bullet is better than nothing.
If you’re shoulder carrying, you don’t have time to pull your rifle around if something like a coyote or boar comes out of the brush. Hand gun, on the other hand does the job. And yeah, for some larger predators with sensitive hearing, the crack of a handgun round can spook them off of coming towards a person. That’s why we have .45 Mag trees all over our property so you can quickly grab a gun if you need one, for animals or god forbid shadow monsters.
@@HumanisticJones I understand that but I'm just referring to his examples of bears or mountain lions. While a handgun will probably stop and/or scare off a mountain lion unless it's high caliber it isn't going to do a damn thing to a brown bear but piss it off and you genuinely don't need to worry for black bears since they don't usually attack unless extremely provoked or coyotes since they even in packs probably won't attack a fully grown human. I understand where you're coming from with coyotes and snakes or badgers. That's definitely a reason to carry while hunting but yeah I'd say carry in any out of element situation anyway. Regardless of travelling by road or deep woods.
@@HumanisticJones I'm just saying you're ordinary 32 isn't going to stop a fully grown brown bear that's either so hungry itll attack or is so threatened that it will
i am shocked and appalled that monty didn't mention alan's habit of wandering off and shoving dozens of whole ass collectible coffee thermoses into his cartoonishly large pockets, and that those thermoses are implied in control to be spooky
@@gaycosmichorror yeah! Idk. It’s just a head canon but it would blend gameplay and story lore together! Especially when a multiplying object I think was seen in control as well! So why not have the coffee thermos be ONE thermos that just splits itself all over the map! 😂

2:32:15 I just want to interject a theory. I don't think it's just that if you write badly the magic doesn't work, more so the worse you write the more the darkness can interfere. It's an editor, it makes changes where you've made mistakes, and it will make those changes in it's own favor.

Your ways of explaining the story and the interaction between you and your friends is just hilarious. Can't wait for further lore dumps and I hope your days have been going well
Listening to this, it's very clear that Alan Wake is obviously a key blade wielder. Fights The Darkness with the light, writes lots of reports, has a real thing for stories... Maybe he's the reason Sora hasn't mastered The Power of Waking. They might have to meet up to Remedy that XD.
Huh he's also writing a book that says what's going to happen, a real Book of Prophecy one might say? How would Chase feel about Alan Wake being the Master of Masters?
So happy Lore Dump is back! Loving the two eps that came out so far this year. Alan wake its one of those games where recounting it to someone just doesn't do the game justice, but Monty's done a great job so far! Also can I say the ongoing Patreon donator's scroll is the best Patreon shoutout on a TH-cam video I've seen? It's there to give Patrons their credits but it's so inoffensive and doesn't distract from the content unlike a jarring/distracting/shilly break in the middle of the video. Noticeable but not distracting, just wanted to shout out that good layout design!
We do have mountain with cabins here in the US as well. Cabin in a wooded area is not weird at all. Cabin in the Woods is even a horror movie. Idk y it was so strange to him.😂
I am extremely amused how just after you bring up Sarah asking Barry to stay and make those calls and Chase and Neil immediately say secret society essentially mimicking what Barry asks Sarah. I just immediately started cackling.

Just starting the video but this is the first time you guys are covering a series I haven't played. Normally I'd stray away for that reason but I never really had any inclination to play these games so let's see if that changes regardless I always love listening to you guys!
Coming back to this comment to say you definitely have me hooked for the rest of this series on lore dump idk if the gameplay is for me but the story absolutely is so I'm definitely here for you guys to take me through it
So, I found monty's channel after his Arkham origin video (thank you youtube) and after watching that vid, saw his review of alan wake and went "hell yeah, a review of my favorite video game of all time". And now after seeing those two, watched the quantum break vid, and making me play control (so good), I am now here. What a ride. And now I've subscribed to both channels and will not look back.
I think it's kinda fitting that the first gun Allen finds is a pistols cause at least to my knowledge in PA you can hunt with a revolver or a single shot center fire hangun
I assumed the clicker story was something Alan had recently made up for Alice and he got that light switch to sell the story more convincingly to her and make it more comforting, and that’s why he only gave it to her after knowing her for a while. Just a thought.
@@LoreDump I'll toss some extra stuff in here for the fun of it. I'll update it as I listen to more. 8:45 - Weirdly enough newspapers can be found around Bright Falls of people having UFO sightings. 24:30 - The place was called Wizard Lake. 48:50 - Taken vanish after Alan kills them. So no body left behind to find. The Sheriff's office is full of missing person photos so they definitely know people are vanishing. 1:41:00 - Odin and Tor 100% make it out fine. There is a manuscript of them getting all the patients to safety. They are both excited to fight the Taken again. 1:47:36 - The stage power was dead until a lightening bolt hit it. Implication is Tor caused it to happen.
I went into this completely uncaring of Alan Wake and mostly just wanting to listen to you guys talk about whatever and now Im completely invested in this story. So, congrats on sucking me in guys. You're all great. Also Barry is a goddamn gift.
Can we expect more remedy Videos soonish? I played the games but totally miss major interesting story bits cant wait for more! Huge thank you too all three of you ❤
Monthly releases now! We wanted to get these out with more regularity this year. The next Remedy Video (The DLC and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare) will be out March 1st! - Monty
Oh man, this is a great one. I never played Alan Wake, but after watching Monty's video on it, I was stoked to see it coming up on Lore Dump. The worldbuilding is fantastic, and the storytelling you guys do here is great (and, often, hilarious). Thank you for another fantastic video!!!
You know every other series you’ve done for Lore Dump, I’ve had anywhere from a passing knowledge to an encyclopedic knowledge but I know practically nothing about Alan Wake so I’m 20 minutes in and I feel like I’m having a fever dream. I guess this is the true lore dump experience.
I personally think that Alans Writing mostly work like this: If Alan knows about a person, he can call them into the story by writing about them, once he has written something like "Magdalena Cartwright had always wanted to be a pilot, and now on her 15th year as helicopter pilot, she flew to BrightFalls" And now every time he writes "Magdealena did" he calls on them now that they are added to the story. But he has to manifest them INTO the story first. However, some characters are people already there and their presence will nudge his writing simply due to their normal day to day activities and will eventually get themselves written into the story. He can make people sleepy if there is a reason for it, etc, biut there needs to be a reason for it, which they or he created.
Yo? This is great, I was interested in the Remedyverse since watching LPs of CONTROL, but it was just too big of a commitment to fully dive into it, so this series will be just FANTASTIC to catch me up on the whole thing before Alan Wake 2 or Control 2.
One thing I think was not made clear here is that it was Thomas Zane's writing that caused Barbara Jagger to become the face of The Dark Presence. You said he tried to write her back, and it didn't work, it did. She came back wrong. Zane tried to cut corners and The Dark Presence took advantage of that to insert itself into his story. It is not so much that any story has to follow a specific set of rules in order for the magic to work, rather it needs to follow it's own internal logic.
Came here again after listening to Monty's video on Alan Wake 2. Can't wait for him to explain it to Chase and Neil whenever they find the time after dealing with the Yakuza series. Their reactions will fuel me for months to come.
I have literally binged everything Lore Dump and love what you're doing! My only gripe is that Chase talks while chewing on something, because it makes me hungry...
Twin Peaks Lore Dump WHEN? (For Chase’s skepticism I offer the fact that I am both a twin peaks fan and a kingdom hearts fan and the appeal is very largely the same)
Huzzah!!! This is exactly what I needed today, thanks lads! :D Edit: Absolutely LIVING for Chase’s falsetto goodbye at the end there. As a musical theater actor, I applaud your breath control and excellent vibrato good sir XD
Lately I've been watching a lot of Control and Remedy-Verse videos. And from that I stumbled upon this channel. God this is just hilarious. Can't wait for the AW2 Lore Dump in idk how long
Just finished Metal Gear lore dump and so excited there's another ready for me! I really enjoyed Montys critique of Allen Wake and the other Remedy games. As someone who is really interested in the stories but not really interested in playing the games it's really awesome for me. Also every Kingdom Hearts reference just fills my heart with joy 💕. Keep up the amazing working guys!
I loved the story in this game. I never considered it as a podcast episode because I was only thinking of games that were part of a series. I hope that you eventually cover Portal 1 and 2 for possibly one episode, God of War, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill, Oddworld, etc
2:28:00 Chase: "[exasperated] Fine, I'll play these games." Now he's 100%ed some of them multiple times. And Monty you said he wouldn't make it 30 minutes
I never had any interest in Alan Wake (or the Remedy verse in general) before randomly watching Monty's video on Alan Wake. Which I watched while taking a break from my Control playthrough. Which I picked up on a whim, having never heard about it before. Well. I then listened to this (and the rest of the Remedy verse episodes) in the same time period as I played and finished Control. I don't know how I managed to simultaneously randomly decide to pick up Control and find this content, but it seems weirdly appropriate. Also. This podcast is brilliant, and I have been slowly going through the older episodes, even though I also never really cared about Metal Gear or Kingdom Hearts.
As someone who never really got into Remedy games outside of a few Max Payne retrospectives this was a very interesting episode and it really came across how passionate Remedy are as a development team adding and mixing alot of personal interests and outside inspirations to their games which is really intriguing as to what the rest of this group of episodes will bring. I'm also starting to pick up a theme of said games that wear their outside media inspirations on their sleeve as Montey's favorite games which i definitely understand why. hope this wasn't too off the mark/too speculative about you Monty.
This is fantastic. I’ve always loved montey’s lore dumps and this is what got me into Alan Wake. I hope you’re as excited as me as Alan Wake 2. Your video essays are the best on TH-cam and have inspired me belong what yous imagine. Keep up the fantastic work guys as a fellow Scot❤❤❤❤
With the Stage battle...a bolt of lightning actually starts the music and the effects. Now remenber who set this up. Methinks Tor still had one last spark of lightning left from his storms.
The fact that no one really ever states the obvious inspiration from that movie both Alan Wake and even more with Dark Place segments of Alan Wake 2 really bums me out. The inspiration is as much on the sleeve as much if not more than David Lynch's works like Twin Peaks/Mullholland Dr and even more so than Stephen King.
My favorite bit about Alan Wake is that he wrote this terrible horror story to try to save Alice, but he still had to foresight to write that his best friend is essentially invincible covered in Christmas lights with a headlamp and flare gun. Alan loves Barry just as much as we do.
Excellent work, gang! I'm glad you guys are covering some games I've found interesting but never really wanted to play, or figure out (looking at you kingdom hearts)
@2:43:27 Yes, I've always thought that this particular shot is definitely implying that Agent Nightingale is ... Spoiler ...
... the new vessel for the Darkness. But if that turns out to be the case, then it's interesting that in Control ... Spoiler ...
... It is implied that a living and breathing Alex Casey from the FBI has appeared and has requested information about Bright Falls and the disappearance of Alan Wake ... and that the next altered world event will be back at Cauldron Lake. I find that really intriguing, because years ago I read the unfinished manga of Satoshi Kon, "Opus", and in that story ... Spoiler COMBO!!!!
... a manga author (who is very clearly a stand-in for Kon) has decided to kill off his main character so he can finally write move on and something new. But in the alternative reality within the story, this main character finds out and tries to stop him. It's kind of like if in the book/film Misery, ... Spoi ... ah, screw it! ... the person trying to undo the writer's killing of Misery is Misery herself. I think it would be pretty cool if Alex Casey is similar. To borrow a line from Blade Runner: "I want more life, father". Sam Lake is a person I would love to have a few beers with and just talk about all of the movies, books and media that he loves. I think it would be really enlightening.
Never heard of this game, but interested to hear it's story. Having just finished the video,I have to say this was great. Can't wait to hear more of this story, it's super interesting.
Oi Chase burnt out? Just a Control thing innit? 2 Lore Dumps not in the driver seat and he's getting the itch already! Just messing around love the videos, so happy 2023 is gonna be stacked with y'all.

Loving this channel! Can’t wait for you to do Alan Wake 2!
I went into this completely uncaring of Alan Wake and mostly just wanting to listen to you guys talk about whatever and now Im completely invested in this story.
So, congrats on sucking me in guys. You're all great.
Also Barry is a goddamn gift.
Neil's puns and Chase's KH references were glorious! Amazing as always!
I'm so happy that y'all are going over the Remedy-verse! It's up there in my favorites as well, Monty!
- Monty
I really like how each of your console icons change for each series discussed.
3:29 IT'S PAYNE! WHACK 'IM!
You guys are quickly becoming my favorite youtube personalities and I hope you guys keep the videos coming.
So next episode, Alan Wake Re:Mind?
You know every other series you’ve done for Lore Dump, I’ve had anywhere from a passing knowledge to an encyclopedic knowledge but I know practically nothing about Alan Wake so I’m 20 minutes in and I feel like I’m having a fever dream. I guess this is the true lore dump experience.
Welcome to my world- Neil
@@LoreDump I suddenly feel so bad for you.
1:15:08 "Nowhere to run now Dan Brown!" lmao irl the writing on this game is hilarious LOVE THESE LORE DUMP VIDS
anyone know when we should expect the next one because im hooked
Next episode will be March 1st! Aiming (🤞) for monthly releases moving forwards
I personally think that Alans Writing mostly work like this:
If Alan knows about a person, he can call them into the story by writing about them, once he has written something like "Magdalena Cartwright had always wanted to be a pilot, and now on her 15th year as helicopter pilot, she flew to BrightFalls"
And now every time he writes "Magdealena did" he calls on them now that they are added to the story.
Hey! It'll be out on October 30th, but it's already available on the MontyZander patreon, hope you enjoy! -Neil
@LoreDump Hooray! Can't wait! I'll just have to watch the Yakuza episodes I've been putting off until then lol.
Edit: Absolutely LIVING for Chase’s falsetto goodbye at the end there. As a musical theater actor, I applaud your breath control and excellent vibrato good sir XD
43:06 the flashback shows how Alan Wake could use the power at the cabin to rewrite reality to introduce the lightswitch.
I found your channel completely randomly! and it's becoming one of my favorite. You guys are just so hilarious. Your videos are making my days!
A new lore dump makes for a wonderful day
I need a lore dump of max Paine someday
I loved the story in this game. I never considered it as a podcast episode because I was only thinking of games that were part of a series. I hope that you eventually cover Portal 1 and 2 for possibly one episode, God of War, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill, Oddworld, etc
It is part of a series! This is Part 1 of 5 👀
2:28:00 Chase: "[exasperated] Fine, I'll play these games."
Now he's 100%ed some of them multiple times.
I listen to these at work, they're perfect for the long hours on your feet. Gonna listen to the Kingdom Hearts ones after this ❤️
For those who don't know, torch is another name for flashlight.
With the Stage battle...a bolt of lightning actually starts the music and the effects.
Now remenber who set this up. Methinks Tor still had one last spark of lightning left from his storms.
After watching Monty's review of this and Control, I was so excited to see this!!
I can't express how happy I felt when I saw a new episode soooo soon after the metal gear rising video!
The lads devastating the Clicker cutscene had me rolling!
How to save having the typewriter be the surprise: bring out a metal bat from behind the back.
"Wait, the darkness is dangerous?" you can hear the kingdom hearts neurons activating
Man I love these Alan wake videos they are so good
after the mindfuck that was kingdom hearts, this actually is a good followup, this got me hooked
Thoroughly enjoyed this. I've never dug to deep into this universe, so hearing about it for the first time with others is a fun experience.
So whenever you do a horror Lore Dump, I expect you now do it with the lights off, or at the very leasr dimmed to get you in the spooky mood
Hadn't realized how much I missed lore dump. Gotta retrain the algorithm!
This was an absolute treat, loved this game so much when i played it all those years ago
I joined the patreon for the full version of coconut... Feels bad man
@2:43:27 Yes, I've always thought that this particular shot is definitely implying that Agent Nightingale is ...
Spoiler ...
... the new vessel for the Darkness.
Do we plan to do a lore dump for Control in tangent with part 1 and 2 of Alan Wake?
Yes! We’re recording Quantum Break in April, followed by Control, then followed by the DLC
@@MontyZander It is weird to know that I have seen all of Quantum Break and not remember any of it... Am **I** Alan Wake?!
I’d love to see a max payne lore dump sometime idk maybe it’s not really that “crazy” or shocking twists
All the taken who die fade away like Obi-Wan Kenobi so there was no Stucky body to find
I can’t believe Vanitas chucked things at Alan Wake
Wake up babe, the boys just dropped a new Lore Dump!
One thing most people dont mention is that the moonshine was made from lake water wich is why alan has magic dreams
With Monty's performance, I'm absolutely seeing Barry Wheeler as Wheeler from Captain Planet. Guess he grew up and got over his pyromaniac phase.
And got fat, lost his hair, and spent some time in the Jewish parts of New York
One of my favorite games! So excited for the sequel
Speaking as someone who is both an Alan Wake and Kingdom Hearts fan I approve this message.
Oi Chase burnt out? Just a Control thing innit? 2 Lore Dumps not in the driver seat and he's getting the itch already! Just messing around love the videos, so happy 2023 is gonna be stacked with y'all.
