Thank you for making this video on Myrna Loy. She is by far my favorite actress of all time. This is also become my favorite channel. I love old Hollywood and the actors. Thank you again. ❤
Libeled Lady, The Great Ziegfeld, and all of the Thin Man series, Test Pilot, Wife versus Secretary, and Manhattan Melodrama are on the top of my list for my favorite Loy movies. However I do have a secondary list. She was a fun actress even when she played bad women.
I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation on Myrna loy. Her profile was just as famous as John Barrymore's. She always had a delightful speaking voice and when she Co-Starred with William Powell in "The Thin Man" series you could always count on her doing the unpredictable with a delightful nuance, that epitomized and was completely Myrna.
Another great episode! Just a quick little correction. The picture you used for Peg Entwistle was actually a picture of Bette Davis in her “blonde” phase.
To me Myrna Loy was the most beautiful woman in Hollywood history! 😍 Even though she was very slender. I had the pleasure of having a pen pal relationship with her!
She was such a great humanitarian all through her life. She quit movies during WWII and followed up with one of the greatest films - "The Best Years of Our Lives". One thing is she could play opposite against anyone.
Although Loy was never one of my favorites, her looks were certainly arresting. Your choice of pictures was very interesting. Great deep dive. Love this channel
I wish people discussing the 1930s stars wouldn't omit to mention Leslie Howard. He was a huge star. Loy stared alongside Leslie Howard in the Animal Within, and they even had a fling. Howard lost his life due to his work for the Allies, but because he died honourably for his tireless work against the Nazis no one mentions him. It makes me really sad that his heroism excludes him from mention as a major movie and stage actor.
@HollywoodMysteries Will do! It is kind of upsetting that so many people leave mention of Leslie Howard out. I even saw something on Bogart, and they said his sons name was Leslie Howard Bogart and didn't say who Leslie Howard was or why Bogart would name his son after him! The reason is a delight of humility and gratitude. What really upsets me, though, is there can be no doubt that Leslie Howard threw himself into the war effort. When he made Pimpernel Smith he as good as signed his death warrant. After about 18 months of the films release, his plane was taken down by the Luftwaffe. This was perhaps a reflection of Nazis perversity. Leslie Howard had produced, directed, and starred in The First of the Few (US title: Spitfire 1943). The story of R.J. Mitchell who designed the first of these planes. The name refers to Winston Churchills' famous words of respect to the men of the Royal Airforce who fought in the Battle of Britain. Their determination, skill, and courage had a powerful impact on the subsequent Allied victory. "Never was so much owed by so many to so few." ~ Winston Churchill The Nazis killed Howard in a plane crash. People nowadays are so cynical they can't understand that a man really would "give up his life for his friends." Leslie Howard can be clearly seen through the lens of history as a man of honour. He had just made Gone with the Wind (which he really didn't want to do). He could easily have sat the war out in the USA. He didn't. In those days, you couldn't go back to England if you had shares in a foreign interest. He had shares in Gone with the Wind. It was a major hit and was obviously going to be a honey pot for anyone with shares. Leslie Howard went back to England to throw himself into the war effort. To do so, he sold his shares to Zanuck for $20,000. Leslie Howsrd had learned a painful but valuable lesson from his experience in WW1. He was not a soldier in the traditional sense. He was rather swiftly invalided out with neurasthenia (probably shell shock). This diagnosis could have been a little embarrassing as neurasthenia was known to be a 19th-century women's ailment. When he entered the WWII war effort, he used the skills he actually had to fight. He was a major star, respected actor, exquisite public speaker, and a very experienced man in all aspects of the movie making business. These were the weapons he used. The Nazi chief of propaganda, Goebals, noted that Leslie Howard was the greatest tool of propaganda the Allies had. Howard didn't simply make films. He would travel to neutral countries and give speeches and no doubt had meetings trying to persuade such countries to weigh in with the Allies. This was what he was doing in Portugal when his plane was shot down over the Bay of Biscay on June 1st, 1943. I'm sure you know he was somewhat easy with his ... er... virtue. A favoured mistress is seen in Pimpernel Smith. She is the French woman in the powder shop. She sadly died a few months after this. When she died, Leslie Howard phoned his wife, who went to pick him up from the hospital. His wife, Ruth, must have been a very special woman. He remained married to her all his life. I think the favoured mistress was exiting as a reliving of youth, but I truly believe the love of his life was the woman he married. She was not a star or even an actress. She struggled with her weight all her life. But she provided him with something modern women would perhaps disapprove of: she provided a safe, secure home and took care of him. No one ever mentions this, but she must have nursed him back to health after he was invalided out of the army in WWI. I have noticed that men and women who go through this together tend to form a very strong bond. Clearly, she had to turn a blind eye every 45 minutes, but she loved him. Unconditionally and forever. Ruth was the love of his life. Sorry. I have gone on. It is just that had he lived, he would undoubtedly have matured into character roles and would have been known as one of the greats. Instead of all that he could have had, he made a different choice. He gave his life for his country.
By the way, you do a great job and it's nice to see you adding subscribers. Raving imbeciles have millions of robotic followers; it's nice to see discernment and quality winning out even at a deliberate pace.
One of my top 5 actresses of the years of beautiful woman. I loved her acting, beauty and brains! Last name of Williams. Is Myrna related to Esther William (excellent actress / swimmer/ dancer, mother to Lorenzo Lamas? I love all the movies Myra did, especially mr. Powell, mr. R. Taylor, etc
Thanks for posting this video. I do plan on reading more about her. What an iconic and sexy actress Myrna Loy was. I plan on watching a majority of her films from when she first came out to the last movies she did. I love her political views; very democratic and liberal.
There's a mistake in your commentary. The lady was wearing orange 🍊 not red ! I saw the actual dress 👗➕The woman in Red sounds better than the Woman in Orange.
This early characters she played were referred to by the studios as EXOTICS. it’s notable how striking she looked and in a number of ways. The word schlocky doesn’t quite catch it.
If you ever noticed how much resemblance she shares with Debra Messing. I told her that when I 1st met her during the filming of the 3rd episode of Will and Grace
thats because they are related -- even down to th red hair 🙂 see Debs "Finding your Roots" episode as well as the TCM bio spot she does which yu may be able to channel serach for at TCMs website, you can certainly google them.
I love all of the Myrna Lloyd movies that she's that I've ever seen her in but I have the added thrill of seeing her on stage in 1975 in Waco Texas at Baylor at Waco Hall Baylor University with Ricardo montalban John Rhys-Davies Edward Moore hair in Don Juan in hell p the best night I ever enjoyed
Something you have not mentioned is the fact that Myrna Loy herself said she would have loved to have had children but early on her career she either had a abortion and back then abortions were done illegally so it made her sterile.
She is my favorite, I love her and William Powell in all the Thin Man Movies. Thank you.
My favs. Always looking for more. Sadly, I now know there were only 6 made.
We agree 100%!
Well deserved title, "The Queen of Hollywood"...my favorite 30's actress....she had it all. ❤ ❤ her Thin Man series! TY for bio!!
She was an advocate for Civil Rights early in the plight for equality. 😊
"Plight" for equality?
She was a gem! I didn’t see her vamp films, but the ones with Clark Gable and William Powell were gems!
I remember Myrna from the 1950 Cheaper By the Dozen film. She was amazing.
Thank you for making this video on Myrna Loy. She is by far my favorite actress of all time. This is also become my favorite channel. I love old Hollywood and the actors. Thank you again. ❤
You're very welcome!
She sounded like a really cool lady. She had her opinions, and wasn't afraid to express them.

Pro tip: Don't ever marry someone named Hertz.
Myrna Loy was so pretty. I just saw Wife vs. Secretary. She was amazing! Thank you for this video.

Myrna Loy was absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful actor. She’s long been a personal favorite.

That was a mistake and you are absolutely correct - they do look a little alike in that one!

Barbara Stanwick was also unable to have children because of a botched abortion at age 14. So sad.
Mysterious beautiful looks. Like Jennifer connelly
I love your content, but the vocal fry is just too much. Great research and presentation, though.
Narration is slightly annoying.
Does the Monroe William Powell have the thin Man complete collection in it?
There's a separate collection for all the Thin Man movies
Could you offer some photo posters? 😊 ❤
Hope Dillinger enjoyed the movie
- Or so they said and say to this day.
I sure hope Dillinger enjoyed the movie as it cost him far more than admission ticket

Myrna was an amazing woman and had an enviable career. Btw, the host (content creator) has a beautiful voice ;)
Thank you!

They removed her sculpture from her high school.
The original cement one decayed and was taken down. They remade a bronze one and it’s still there according to the school website
Can you imagine an actress doing all these patriotic moves today?
Some do, but Fox News & TMZ trash talk them
I love her! Glad I watched this. Beautiful woman
