So fabulous India, thank you! Imagine how much easier life would have been for all of them if they remained single & not married. Being single is a gift.
Yes, being single is the gift all right. Here I am at 61 knowing this only because most of my misery was caused from seeking love now I’m fine being alone but when I was younger, I wanted companionship so badly and I do remember that feeling of loneliness, I’d like to say if I had to do over again, I would do differently. But I honestly don’t know . That intense pain of loneliness I remember, I can relate to these women.
if your rich & have plenty of family &friends & MONEY , but if "YOUR TRULY" single & have ABSILUTELY NOONE THEN IITS NOT AGIFT YOU HAVE TO TOTAL rely on yourself & do everything by yourself , it is both very very very lonely & boting
India, this presentation was, as usual, masterful. I knew when you covered one of my favorite people--Natacha--that I found a kindred spirit. You gave depth and renewed life to both ladies, along with the sensitivity and respect they didn't always receive. I also appreciate those slashings of humor when needed! I found myself feeling more akin to Doris' artistic leanings, yet sympathetic to the hungry romantic soul of Barbara. One can imagine what it could be like to live within the world so insulated and apart, with all the hurt and pain that makes us human. With the unrelenting eyes of the world forever on you.
Thank you for this wonderful comment! I'm so glad you liked the video! By the end of making it I felt I had gone on a journey with Doris and Barbara, it's so sad that despite all their wealth and power in the end they were both badly treated toward the end.
I grew up in Hawaii, and went to University of Hawaii at Manoa early '80's. I used to go buddy boarding off Diamond Head right outside Shangri La. Now it is a museum of Doris's collection of Islamic Art, Culture and Design. I did not know anything about it until now.Thank you! Funny, I ended up married to an Iranian.
this is a wonderful documentary. your storytelling ability and melodic voice are so appreciated in a time when many people toss out half assed wikipedia summaries and call them documentaries. i really enjoyed this, i hope you make more, though i understand more 3 hour videos would be incredibly draining. thank you.
I found the amount of work put into this absolutely astounding. Brilliant. Slightly bothered by mispronunciations and a rushed, robotic narration style. A lovely voice though, and she doesn't mumble.
Poverty of morality. 👍 Predators & parasites exist in EVERY lvl, however, it's hard to con a conman, so people learn to see thru people early on when raising up thru the ranks from financial poverty, character morality can be learned, if smart. So important to teach our kids how to learn. Love & poor or rich & lonely. Pretty sure most would pick the "other side of the fense". Connection is so important.
Very well done India, I applaud you. I knew the stories and the outcome, yet I was still transfixed. No, money does not buy happiness. These two women paid their dues, I hope they found peace.
I have to tell you again, how much I enjoy your channel. The amount of research you put into these biographies, as well as your presentations, are better than anything I’ve seen elsewhere. Simply magnificent 😊
Thrilled to find your channel!! Im now awaiting all of your content... thank you for your in depth analysis of history of interesting and thorough filmographies..
Remarkable! I was riveted and moved by your wonderful telling of the stories of these "poor little rich girls." I didn't resent them and only wished that they had had better people in their lives, people who would have truly protected them. And mostly, I wish that Doris Duke had stayed with Duke Kahanamoku, kept those children and lived happily ever after.
Woooow I’m very impressed with the Duke Family! That’s literally amazing to me that they pushed for POC and women to be included in the collective spaces. Given the time and how much money they had that’s AMAZING.
Bravo! A compelling and immensely enjoyable watch! This was so well-written, narrated and documented! Incidentally, my head is swimming with the number of marriages and divorces between the two!
I have such fond and nostalgic memories of browsing through the Woolworth store in Titusville, Pennsylvania. We would then have a grilled cheese or tuna sandwich at the lunch counter... ❤️
Odd that the two women would be “rivals.” Doris Duke was quite homely but apparently a thoughtful, generous and interesting person. Barbara Hutton actually rather fragile and pretty in her youth but without much depth. as a person. The two women were nothing alike. Rivals are usually rivals because they're much alike.
THIS NEEDS TO BE A MADE FOR TV MOVIE ON HBO!! A SEVERAL PARTS SERIES! WOW!!! WHAT A HEYELL OF A LIFE FOR BOTH OF THESE WOMEN! I WONDER ARE THERE DISTANT RELATIVES STILL ALIVE?
Chilllle they was cutting up during the gilded age, I would’ve never guessed they were doing all this dirt back then I thought it was so much more conservative. 14:32
I'm always surprised by how wild people's lives were back then! I think the rich have always lived crazy lives and the average person was more conservative in the past
I have always (usually) driven a car with a gear stick... The 1st time I drove an automatic, I hit the brake by accident (no clutch) not the "gas".......
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I love being as detailed as possible (and interesting) and it's great when people appreciate the research! Too much ai content nowadays 🩷🩷🩷
The photograph that you show at 22.09, claiming it is Barbara's mother! Is not a photograph of Edna Woolworth (1883-1917) Edna was only 34 years old when she died!!! She was also an acknowledged beauty, does that photograph look like a picture of a 34 year old woman? Edna died in 1917!!! Look at the clothes of the lady in the photograph? Do they resemble the fashions of 1917?? Of course not!! The photograph is a very well know picture of Barbara's aunt, Jessie May Woolworth Donahue (1886-1971)!!! I would suggest you check all your sources and materials before using them in your videos. On a positive note, your video is really very good, regarding detail and other photographic evidence.
Apologies, it's the only image I could find that is meant to be Edna aside from the one that is supposedly her and Barbara. It was uploaded to Find A Grave.com. The pages on there are usually uploaded by relations. I researched all the information in this video for months, and it's all from well reviewed biographies, but sometimes the photos might not be exactly correct.
@@indiascarlett Thanks for the reply, I understand, I just wanted to let you know, sometimes it's best to apply common sense, as there is a lot of misinformation out there, that is why I give Edna's age at the time of her death, the photo, the clothes, they could not possibly be of a 34 year old woman, on or before the date of 1917. It was constructive feedback. Otherwise, as I said your video was very good, I enjoyed it as I am an avid fan of Barbara. I appreciate the time you took to make the video. Thank you.
I can about guarantee you no one who was raised in the Utica area was wearing “cowboy boots.” Work boots? Sure. Winter boots? Absolutely. Utica used to get colder than it gets now and cowboy boots aren’t gonna cut it.

WOWOWOW!!!!! Walking in another world is so eye-opening. Character truly is made thru struggle. Only character is trustworthy.
Thank you.
I have watched several long form videos about Doris and Barbara, and this is the best by far. The time flew by!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I also have a video on the Mdivani family
@@indiascarlett I've just finished that. It was also fabulous.

Indeed it is! I kept thinking each time Barbara remarried how on earth she could be bothered! Glad you enjoyed the video, ❤️

Happy to have found a channel that does hours long deep dives on topics I’ve never heard of before, can’t wait to watch this video!
Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy it!
That’s Cab Calloway playing at Barbara’s 1930 ball! To be a fly on the wall. Amazing job! The images and film clips are wonderful!
I noticed that!
I saw Cab Calloway in 1992 on the 4th of July on the US Capitol Lawn. He must have been in his 80s but he sang and danced. Great show!
@ that’s so funny… I saw him around that time at the Kennedy Center. He must’ve been on his last tour. I do remember him having so much energy!
incredible, incredible, incredible. this documentary is a JEWEL. I’m speechless. utter perfection-!!!!!!
Thank you so much! 💓
What a thorough and beautiful report. With all this fortune came so much misery, heartbreak and betrayal.
So totally engrossing and well researched. This one is my favorite on the heiresses. Great work!
Thank you so much! 💓

That lady killed Buck. Damn shame. She starved him and froze him to death.
So cruel

Unless!? They are musicians!? Or!? Professional musicians and artists
Like in many cases, money ruins so many things..
..too many relationships, promiscuity...and moving constantly, not settling down....sad
They are also both Scorpios
Wow! That’s all I can say…. glad I’m ME.
Philanthropist suggestions....like paying employees. Ugh! All of these people are so gross. Wow.

“India Scarlett? “. Is there a Rhett in this scenario?
Haha! I am named after gone with the wind!
I wonder why Barbara Hutton didn't give Woolworths employees a raise?
I can’t choose which one was more insufferable. 😂

Great commentary, but are you in a speed reading and speed talking competition? Slow down honey❤
Gosh, they may have had pots of money, but they were extremely low class and cheap.
Woah, Trump owns Barbara Huttons old home. Their lives could not be more opposite.
No one asked you! Trump 2024😂
Mad and tragic
I have no idea about anyone or anything from England!???
Good gossiping.

I think they were both pretty rotten
I don’t have any interest about English culture!??
