I love these updates and are really good for a new EV owner. Could you do a feature on the Renault Charger Pass and the subscription of Mobalise Intenze please. It’s a new offer which may help people charge for less with Renaults such as IONITY charge points
Took IONITY Passport Power membership for annual Glasgow to North Wales holiday in my MG5 - efficiency not great as fully loaded and large roofbox. Charged at Carlisle (12 units but always very busy) and Blackburn Darwen Services. Excellent experience and only 43p/kWh. Also took Tesla membership and used Flint Mountain - likely ‘lost’ money on this membership. Had planned on visiting Aberystwyth and use Tesla units there but plans changed. Visited these three locations both there and coming back. Carlisle operating at capacity and Blackburn was a short detour from M6 but worth it. Previously used MFG at Crow Orchard but too expensive compared to IONITY passport. Also used Podpoint at Lidl 65p/kW which seems expensive for 50kW but no other options other than 85p/kW InstaVolt whilst in Conwy. Refusing to pay that price though.
The MG5 is a brilliant car! I stopped at Flint Mountain on the way back from Hollyhead because I was intrigued by the name and never seen a Flint mountain before. (hint there isn’t a Flint mountain.)
GRIDSERVE could be useful when I’m going long distance, worth looking out for their chargers. However at home we have a bank of E.ON chargers at a local Marcy-D. 63p/kwh as standard - no apps or subscriptions. 6x 300KW chargers supporting both CCS and Chademo on all stations.
Hi Dave, Have you talked about the Tesla superchargers in car parks that require payment for the car park on top of the cost of charging? The Tesla app will add these to your route without mentioning you have to pay for parking. E.g. Heathrow Hilton Terminal 5 where you have to pay £6.60 for an hour plus charging. I would avoid these if possible, but why doesn't Tesla provide this information?
It is even more complicated than that because I stopped somewhere where I thought I had to pay for parking (it was a hotel) but the receptionist said the parking charge was already included.
Great update, queues still at park Royal Warrington Tesla charger most times during the day, as only 2 ev chargers at the location. I believe an update to 8 ev chargers is on the cards? But when or if we get them.
One thing to note on the Gridserve discount is that Rugby Services are not included at the moment (but they are due soon i was told). When I was there last week they were doing ground work for extra chargers.
As a Dutch watcher, I'm flabbergasted by the Kwh prices for public chargers in the UK. What is the general price for a Kwh for a home connection in the UK as a comparison? Here in the Netherlands a home connection is 26 cts per Kwh. Public chargers range from 28 to 80 cts. where the slow public chargers are around 35 ct. Tesla is the cheapest with super chargers between 28 and 35 ct (open to all). The SHELL and Total fast chargers at the petrol stations are the most expensive of up to 80 ct per Kwh. These are all Euro cents. There are about 130.000 public charging points in the Netherlands
Uk home charging depends on supplier, I have octopus agile and it was about 6p kWh a few days ago. The week before it was -2p at peak they actually paid me whilst charging. But average it’s about 8-10p over night. So I’m flabbergasted you have to pay 26c in the Netherlands.
I recently stumbled upon this YT channel, which is useful for me as a regular traveller between Switzerland and the UK. I'm still on petrol but will move on to EV in the near future. I wonder if someone has suggestions considering the EV fast charging infrastructure for the Bucks area in general and High Wycombe/Beaconsfield/Amersham in particular.
Companies like Shell and BP installing chargers on their own petrol station forecourts should be able to get their prices down below those at places like motorway services because they shouldn't have any ground rents to pay for the space they occupy; that could be a saving of between £4k and £10k per bay per annum.
Our local Shell station now has six 150 kW superchargers on the site. I am not sure how much the rate is, I charged there once just to try them out. I think it was 85p but I could be wrong.
How do you find the cheapest chargers? I’ve tried lots of apps but all require you to find click and dig around to find the prices. Anything that can filter by price?? Good video as usual!
Some great information here. One thing that would drive competition really quickly would be for the charging apps and on board vehicle systems to do more to filter charging locations on price as well as networks. Perhaps you could egg them onto do this!
Tried the Gridserve app with the discount rate at the new hub at Rownham Northbound (or east if you think that way). Cost benefits for non-Tesla drivers of using latest Tesla chargers often mentioned on the channel. As Kia driver, I’d love to know whether previous reports of problems for Hyundai and Kia EV6 drivers using Tesla Superchargers (related to 800v architecture?) are still prevalent. Anyone know latest. Thanks.
I assume some company car drivers get all their charging costs reimbursed so less incentive for them to shop around but we need them to do so to help bring down the prices quicker. I suppose it’s like some people filling up on the motorway their ICE, why would you do that unless money is no object.
Is there anything in place to limit the time and EV can be plugged in to a public charger. For example a train station on the outskirts of Cardiff, has recently had three EV chargers in the car park. What's to stop someone plugging in a car and catching a train into town to spend the day shopping and preventing anyone else using that charger. Another example. I noticed a story from Australia recently, where a driver, apparently, spent ' hours' sitting in his EV, occupying a charging station, whilst watching a movie. I'm sure he got grief from other drivers, but some people can be bloody minded when they choose to be.

Around here MFG forecourts are busy with Vans DPD, BG etc, probably as they usually have 8 bays sites (I.e. capacity) seems a good strategy to me for business users
Sounds about right. These guys probably never wanted an EV van in the first place. They probably don’t care about the price if the business pays. They’re used to going to the diesel pumps so to find the charge points at the same place.
The 50kw chargers should no longer be classed as rapid chargers and the price reduced accordingly. I now try to use only Tesla chargers now when I’m on a journey and have to charge. Heads up Gridserve Norwich. No food or drink due to franchise shutting down. Staff not sure how long before they get it up & running again, but it will be run by Gridserve. So no idea on what exactly that will feature.
BP Pulse was the first "membership" I had because they have the local onstreet parking near us and we could not charge at home when we first got our ev. I had an rfid card and the pricing was nothing special. I recently received an email telling me that they would be charging me nearly £9 a month from August as a "member". Needless to say I have closed my account. Also, the app is inconsistent with charging prices which is farcical. BP are totally rubbish with chargers not working properly and prices too high. BP has lost the plot.
Jesus Christ! Why can't someone just say how much it costs to fully charge an EV? Why won't anybody just give a straight answer? A tank of petrol is £60. How much is a full charge at a a public charger? What's all the bloody secrecy? I've watched a dozen videos and NOBODY will answer the bloody question. It's infuriating!
With these cheap ev's hitting the market at the same time in the UK there will be a large uptake on charging services the companies that lower their prices will benefit from it
Why do they not put them under cover then put solar on top, sorry but the price per mile if you relie on public charges is more to run than a ice car regardless if the argument is an ev is cheaper to service, if our electricity is dearer than in Europe that's probably because the power is produced using foreign companies and with that we are subsidising there cheaper fuel it's the same with public transport and waste collector's.
Maybe look at real figures before you spout your false myths. I charge at home for 7p per kWh, Octopus intelligent Go, available to any EV driver, and I can drive 3 miles on each kWh. So one mile costs me 2.5p. Petrol is £1.40+ per litre or over £6 per gallon. If your ICE car does 70mpg that costs 9p per mile; that is 3 x as much and few cars can get 70mpg. .
@@davetakesiton SO WHAT IF YOU CAN'T CHARGE AT HOME THEN, YOU EV LOT REALLY ARE A BREED OF YOUR OWN, all I was saying is if you have to pay upwards of 50p per kwh it's not cheap against putting fuel in and doing 40 mpg, see o yes if you can charge at 7.5 p then your correct but how long do you really think you are going to get away with that because if and when we're forced to go EV then how does the government get all the lost tax.
@@ricardo-iw9sq If you charge a public charger then 20% VAT is applied so the Government are getting some tax from it and from next year VED will apply to EVs registered after a certain date so they will actually be paying more than a low emissions ICE car. Once you hit around £0.52/kWh you reach breakeven with the average ICE car, and more expensive than most hybrids.
Ospreys in the Electroverse app are 63p instead of 79p BUT ONLY 7-11pm

‘P’ in BP = Petrol. Wonder why they hate EVies… 😂
Dave, can you do a show on tariffs? Here, in North America, we’d like to know what tariffs Tesla/Chine face in the UK 🙏 Frunky
I will no pay the silly prices at superchargers. I only use Tesla public chargers. All the others are a ripoff.
Gypsy lane luton Tesla super chargers 16 open to all Tesla 41p KW/H Members , None members 55p KW/H
Do you think people care about price. Just look at Costa and Mac rip off. I mean a fiver for a cup of coffee and people flock to pay it. Madness.
At the public Bristol Tesla supercharger it costs me £18.06 for a full battery. At home it costs me £5.74. No secrecy quite open. Got your answer now?
If your ICE car does 70mpg that costs 9p per mile; that is 3 x as much and few cars can get 70mpg. .
@@davetakesitonHe clearly said "if you rely on public charging". Not much of a myth there.
Why all those charges empty what a waste of money
