    I tryed T-mobile internet for 3 months, 2 kids that game , and I stream TV, so the caps of the local big internet providers were killing me. It only averaged 24mbps most of the time, which was surprisingly enough for it to keep up, but it would drop down to less than 5mbps several times a week, and nothing would work well. Sometimes, a reset would fix it. If I had a window that faced the tower, it might have worked, but as soon as AT&T came through with their fiber and no cap for only $20 more a month, I jumped on it!

    We have been Google Fiber customers for a couple of years and are extreme;y satisfied with it. The monthly cost is $72 and includes one Google Wi-Fi transmitter. Due to the configuration of our home, we added a second transmitter for about $50 one-time purchase. Download and upload speeds are in the 900 Mbps range, and Google offers billing credits if there are outages. Google Fiber has been very dependable and outages are few. The additional benefit was that we were able to pull down a couple of decades' worth of cable wiring from the exterior of our home!

    I switched from T-Mo to AT&T fiberoptics. No fee install, better signal speeds, both up and down. The 300/300 plan at $55 is working well for me. It's just $5 bucks more than T-mobile and I can always pump it up to 500mb or $1 GB if I ever needed to in a flick of a switch. We are truly entering the zone where data speeds will no longer be an issue.

    • @jamesstarks3676
      @jamesstarks3676 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No contract, so no problem there. I could always switch to another fiber optic company and since AT&T installed the line for free, switching would be seamless. Also, keep in mind that there are more and more options coming daily so the thought of a price hike is not very likely. If anything, they may go down. Since I work from home, I actually upgraded to the 1GB speed at $80 per month. It's overkill for what I do, but the blazing speeds are so enjoyable.

Unfortunately, I gave it up to try their 5G Air Hub for a cheap price/year and it worked great for a coupled weeks, but now I keep losing internet connection. One night, I had to re-boot 6 or 7 times until I did a hard reset. Even moved the Hub to another room. Mind, I only live in a 860 sq ft home! And only me living here. I'm using T-Mobile 5G home internet, and my experience is far better than when I had Spectrum. My average download speed is 400+ mbs download, but my upload speed averages almost 30 mbs (let me point out that T-Mobile's average download and upload speed is 2x faster than Spectrum's at half the price). I do have the luxury of having a T-Mobile tower about 2 miles from me. And I installed roof mounted antennas. Without the antennas on the roof, the performance I would get is comparable to Spectrum. I worked from home and I would get unexpected connection interruption with Spectrum. I've never experience any interruption with T-Mobile. I've tested T-Mobiles bandwidth by simultaneously streaming 4K contents on 4 4K tvs with little to no buffering. I'm truly impressed with T-Mobile. I would have never leave Spectrum if it delivered on its promise. Spectrum made me become a "Cord Cutter". I'm sure fiber internet has some kick ass speed, but I'm satisfied with what I'm getting with T-Mobile and the price. I did have 3 existing lines with T-Mobile before I switch to their internet, so my monthly cost comes out to $40. That's more that half of what I was paying for Spectrum.

    In our semi-rural area, none of the cellular services are worth a bleep. ATT/TMOBILE/VERIZON all claim we are in high coverage (5g ultra or whatever they call it), but when you bring the device into the area, we hardly have a signal at all, and the download speeds are in the kilobytes. The cable is Charter Spectrum and while they'll sell you 500Mbps or 1Gbps, the service rarely does better than about 50 to 80Mbps when it is up. AT&T dsl service is limited to 21Mbps but we've never seen that- more like 5 or 6Mbps. They've said we'd receive fiber since it was launched; but still no signs. Oh, and we're in the b-contour for antenna TV, so you need a 40+ft tall antenna, which isn't allowed in the area.

Spectrum is a monopoly and has the subscribers hostage for now. State government has done nothing to protect the subscribers. Internet should be treated like a utility and regulated as such.

    • @slrpirate2372
      @slrpirate2372 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BTW Spectrum purchased Time Warner Cable in Upstate New York and all the infrastructure was already installed. So all Spectrum did was purchase the existing company and jack up prices. Really nothing changed except the monthly charge.
      Spectrum did nothing but take over TW. Again the benefit of monopoly. They are the only internet provider in the area.
      Now Spectrum has closed the local service offices.
      Internet monthly charges have doubled since the take over and Spectrum's stock price has increased by ripping off the former Time Warner subscribers.
      Again, where is our government protection?
      When you are the only bar in town drinks get expensive.

      That’s around what I used to pay when Spectrum first took over. The price has gone up exponentially each year. Last summer my bill reached $105/month. It’s irritating but I haven’t been able to find a different provider for my area. As you said, they pretty much have a strangle hold on people in my area right now. I’ve still been looking around and trying to find something else. The second something comes up, I’m dropping them. Their customer service is terrible, and as much as we are paying, we still have difficulty streaming movies in our house semi regularly. Trash company.

    My wife and I are seniors on a fixed income. We live in an apartment. Our apartment complex only gives us 2 options for internet. Spectrum, which is 300 mpbs and costs 79.99 (because we don't bundle with their tv service anymore) + 5.00 equipment fee. The other choice is AT&T internet 25, which is only 25 mpbs and is 55.00 per month. That would save us 30.00 per month but is 25 mpbs fast enough? We don't do games, and we only have one tv and a desktop computer. We've dropped youtube tv and replaced it with frndly tv and paromount plus which totals about 15.00 per month but we are still just barely making it. Why are apartment complexes so limited in their choices? At the last house we lived in we had AT&T Internet 50 at 50 mpbs which seemed to work well for us. I don't understand the 25 mpbs speed limit here. The only way spectrum will lower the price is if we bundle with their tv service. We just can't afford it. Don't know what to do.

    • @MichaelSaves
      @MichaelSaves  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ugh -- this is tough. 25 Mbps *might* be OK, but if you use Wi-Fi like most people (not directly connecting devices to your gateway) the speed is often cut in half -- so 12.5 Mbps let's say. If I were you, I would probably stay with Spectrum if you can find $25 elsewhere in your budget to cut costs. It all depends on your priorities I would also keep an eye on T-Mobile and Verizon's 5G services as they expand.

    Interesting video. I'm using the gig service from AT&T fiber as I work from home (lots of video calls w/ customers and co-workers, uploading and downloading large presentations, etc.) and it runs about the same or cheaper than the local cable company (Cox)... and my impression is that it is MUCH more reliable.

    Time Warner used to be good at keeping me at their provider with hefty discounts for a year. A few years ago, once they switched to Spectrum and the price bump kept happening I tried to cancel with the rep saying I couldn’t get no discounts at all, seeing as I has no other option back then so I stayed. That left a sour taste in my mouth and now I’m switching to a much cheaper 5g Verizon home internet. I'm in Southern California, recently switched to Spectrum from Frontier after also trying out T-Mobile and Verizon's 5G boxes. Frontier just kept raising prices at a furious pace and service was constantly being throttled. I've got a T-Mobile phone and it works great, but the 5G internet box was inconsistent in its operation, even with a cell booster in my home. Verizon's 5G box was similar and their $50 plan is only good for the first year (its $99 after that from the info I received). I needed a second cellphone anyway so Spectrum worked out for me. They installed a new line into my home from the phone pole in the back yard (the old one had degraded) and the tech hooked up both the modem and wireless while here (pretty simple so only about 5 minutes of his time), all for no extra charge. $60/mo for both cellphone and internet (200mps consistently, occasionally up near the 300mps rating) for two years. Three months into it and so far its working great. I did have to buy the new cellphone, but at a $40 one-time up front payment I thought it was a bargain.

      Suddenlink has a home internet monopoly over my new little subdivision. When I complained over my rapidly increasing bill (it was up to nearly 200 bucks per month and rising for no legitimate reason) they started offering me huge discounts. I don’t live in an area T-Mobile home internet covers. I bought a hotspot mifi with T-Mobile but it didn’t work. Now I stream video via my mobile hotspots on 2 devices. Service here in and around Austin with T-Mobile is unpredictable lately. I didn’t have connectivity problems with T-Mobile until February this year. Since then the towers don’t seem to be working correctly. I spend hours troubleshooting with Tmobile technicians over the phone instead of streaming movies and video chatting with family. I hope they get better options for us here in Jarrell, TX soon.😢😢😢😢

    Most recently I was told that when there is a heavy Home Internet VS Cell demand, T-Mobile gives preference to cell coverage which makes Home Internet even slower.
    I have repeatedly had videos freeze & pages not load.

    The average cost of 500 mbps speed plan with Cox in Phoenix is $90/mo. (more for faster, less for slower), though I get bundled and special promotional discounts. However, expanded cable TV, Showtime, HBO and box rentals (except for DVR's and CableCARDs) are included with our HOA fee. So cutting the cord would be dumb because we are still paying for it (at about 70% off) thru our bulk contract for the resort condo community where I live. Therefore, when my latest DVR rental died a month ago, I turned it in and got a no-fee receiver box only, then ordered a new Tivo Edge for cable with CableCARD from Cox (which does cost $6/mo. since not included in our HOA like standard receiver boxes are). The Tivo Edge with no subscription fees (lifetime paid) and a 5-yr. warranty plan was just $450+ tax. I was paying at least that in monthly DVR box rental & service fees in less than two years with Cox.

    I switched to At&t fiber from spectrum. Best thing I've done in a while. Faster cheaper.

    T -Mobile with a good signal getting both 4 and 5G I get 25 to 20 at best. All weekend I got 0.20 or lower and it was unusable. Many days like that lately as T-Mobile has oversold the service. I have no choice but to switch back to Frontier fiber.
