The little scene with your littlest boy and making the soup was so sweet it almost brought tears to my eyes, it reminded me of being a tiny little girl and watching my Mama making soup too, and I would watch as she cut up the celery and carrots, and I'm sure I asked all sorts of questions. The "bye bye soup!" at the end just melted my heart. You are such a good Mama Sonya, your kids are blessed to have you, and I feel blessed to be able to share a bit of your life through your lovely videos, that have also brought me so much comfort, inspiration and motivation for cooking and cleaning my own home, which can be difficult for me because I struggle badly with chronic illness. You are a treasure and a light in the world, to your beautiful family, to us, and I'm sure to everyone who has the pleasure of meeting you. Thank you so much for being here, and for being you. 💖💖

Sounds like you and I have a lot in common, I’m pretty much bedbound these days & oh, I miss baking cookies, cakes & sourdough. I can’t say that I’m a great fan of lots & lots of cooks on here, but real people, like Sonya, or homesteaders like Farmhouse on Boone? I can watch them all day! They become almost my friends I watch them so much. Sending prayers & hugs for your health issues. xx

I just love your channel. I am not Jewish, but I do live in a suburb in Manchester England that has a large population of Jewish people, the second largest in England. Most of my neighbours are Jewish, during their Jewish holidays they always try to include my family - which I love and it made me want to learn more about their culture.
As a Catholic I do see a lot of parallels between both my religion and that of Jews.

For French onion soup, I don’t have oven safe bowls so I put the bread with some mustard spread on it and the cheese on top on some foil. I place it in the oven and then plop it on top the soup once it’s melted!

I eat soup in the summer. My apt. is tiny, so the a.c. cools it off really quickly. A cup of soup is good !! & Sometimes I'm in the mood for a light supper, especially if I had a big supper the night before. I remember an old ad for Campbell's Soup, where they said, "Soup is good food,"!! Homemade soup is even better. 💗

I make soup all year. Just made a celeriac, apple and cider soup and during the week I plan to make strawberry soup with basil and slices of mozzarella. Soup is great as you can still get your vital minerals, vitamins, protein etc during the summer without eating a heavy meal. I also make lots of quiches to have with salad during the summer. I make a load and freeze them for quick standby meals. I will br trying your mushroom spinach and feta recipe.Thank you for inspiring me with another quiche filling.

Your right you can't taste the vodka. You add it to this sauce because it is tasteless but works its magic in other ways. In chemistry we learn how certain substances brake down things, while others bond together etc. Here the alcohol works with the compounds in the tomatoes to release flavor compounds that would have remained hidden. The alcohol cooks off and you use only a small amount.

I saw one of your little guys on the screen then it hit me. Not sure if you remember but I was your boys bus driver for the day camp earlier this month. You have very respectful children, not one time did I have to change their seats. Actually your oldest was a very big help one day the counselor wasn't on the bus. He helped me make sure all the kids were sitting while I was driving, and made sure everyone walked into their homes before leaving the stop. I too am a mother of 5, and at times I don't know how I manage to get things done but somehow everything just works out. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, please say hello to the family.

I'm not really one for eating hot foods in the summer. But I'll eat ice cream in all seasons. My son's half brother is married to a Romanian girl. She ALWAYS has a big pot of soup in her fridge. She eats at least one bowl full for lunch, and one with dinner, every single day. Summers included.
One last thing. Your little soup making sidekick is adorable. So beautiful. But then all of your children are beautiful. Thank you Sonya for taking time during your busy life to teach us abt your culture, & your beliefs, all done with love and patience. 🤗❤️🤗

PS Marketing thought: have you considered kid-sized “Sonya’s Prep” gear like aprons and cute chef hats? Perhaps Sonya’s Prep mini meat and dairy utensils as a teaching moment? Offer personalizations embroidered (I like white with Hanukkah blue embroidery) and you would have a hit! You have five models to demonstrate in exchange for treats made by Mommy!!! You could have a “Miriam” line for big girls, a” Hillel” line for little boys, and of course don’t leave anyone out! “Mr. Prep” for spouses….Sonya, the opportunities are endless!

So yummy soup is great anytime. One thing .... when you put cut up potatoes in cold water, be sure and drain off that water! Or at least leave it to add back after potatoes have cooked. That starchy potato water can keep your potatoes from cooking ! This happened one Thanksgiving when we had cut up the potatoes and set them aside in water and after an hour or so we put them on the stove to cook. They would not get tender. Luckily it was about 20 minutes before dinner (and our grocery to close) so we had to make a run to the deli and they sold us a large bag of already mashed potatoes!!!! Later that afternoon, we drained and added fresh water to those potatoes and they cooked right up.

@@SonyasPrep Neither did I until it happened! Did some research to figure out why and found that it was the starchy water and that we should drain off that starchy water and replace with fresh. Of course that starch water is ok once potatoes have been cooked, the water isn't bad. It's great to thicken soups, make gravy, even add back to mash potatoes.

Love the salmon idea. I shy away from cooking spray though. I eat as much junk food as the next person but for some reason I fret about what exactly is in that can of Pam. Oh well.😂

Hi Sonja!!! You look very pretty today! I'm a big soup lover - my mother made the best homemade soups and I guess it rubbed off on me. I can't cook just a small amount - when I cook soup it winds up being enough to feed a crowd! Ha Ha Ha Ha But I love soup. Love that your kiddos are in the kitchen with you - or in the background. They are so cute. Sonja, try putting some grated nutmeg into your French onion soup - it is amazing - about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon. Really very good.
