I just love your channel. I am not Jewish, but I do live in a suburb in Manchester England that has a large population of Jewish people, the second largest in England. Most of my neighbours are Jewish, during their Jewish holidays they always try to include my family - which I love and it made me want to learn more about their culture. For French onion soup, I don’t have oven safe bowls so I put the bread with some mustard spread on it and the cheese on top on some foil. I place it in the oven and then plop it on top the soup once it’s melted!
I love watching your videos and trying out your recipes. My grandfather who was a chef told me to put the onions in the freezer so when you cut them your eyes won't tear up & it works. Many blessings to you and your family ❤

I eat soup in the summer. My apt. is tiny, so the a.c. cools it off really quickly. A cup of soup is good !! & Sometimes I'm in the mood for a light supper, especially if I had a big supper the night before. I remember an old ad for Campbell's Soup, where they said, "Soup is good food,"!! Homemade soup is even better. 💗

we're in Texas and eat chilies so often, I can't imagine avoiding soup just because of the heat. You are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing. I also love that you don't hold back on the garlic. To me, it's not love without plenty of garlic!
Another helpful tip is save some pasta water so you can mix the pasta water with your pasta sauce because it will the sauce that much more delicious...
I love soups... we just have to figure out how to do dinner on the run during the summer for kid sports and neighborhood events, so we end up doing more snacky-do items and sandwiches.
Your right you can't taste the vodka. You add it to this sauce because it is tasteless but works its magic in other ways. In chemistry we learn how certain substances brake down things, while others bond together etc. Here the alcohol works with the compounds in the tomatoes to release flavor compounds that would have remained hidden. The alcohol cooks off and you use only a small amount.
I made the French onion soup for after the fast! It was delicious. Could not stop eating it! Thank you for the recipe. I am learning a lot when it comes to your recipes.
Hi, Sonya I hope all is well. My name is Charnell, First let me just say you're an amazing mom. Hi Sonya! What a great video! Everything looked so delicious…esp that sushi cake (looks more like a sushi pizza!). I just LOVE your videos and sweet family! 💕💕💕
So yummy soup is great anytime. One thing .... when you put cut up potatoes in cold water, be sure and drain off that water! Or at least leave it to add back after potatoes have cooked. That starchy potato water can keep your potatoes from cooking ! This happened one Thanksgiving when we had cut up the potatoes and set them aside in water and after an hour or so we put them on the stove to cook. They would not get tender. Luckily it was about 20 minutes before dinner (and our grocery to close) so we had to make a run to the deli and they sold us a large bag of already mashed potatoes!!!! Later that afternoon, we drained and added fresh water to those potatoes and they cooked right up.
@@SonyasPrep Neither did I until it happened! Did some research to figure out why and found that it was the starchy water and that we should drain off that starchy water and replace with fresh. Of course that starch water is ok once potatoes have been cooked, the water isn't bad. It's great to thicken soups, make gravy, even add back to mash potatoes.
