during my first ride, i was DRUNK and it was at NIGHT in the FRONT ROW and during the mosesaurus roll i have never felt closer to death. it sounds like a joke but i am so fr. scariest most thrilling feeling ever!!! best coaster ever
Just wanted to say, this has become my favorite podcast in a matter of a few days of listening. I love the format, all of your enthusiasm, the deep dives and research, and of course all the goofs. Also love that you give Universal and Disney pretty equal attention, as well as other big names across the world. Keep up the incredible work, and hope to see more Universal Orlando attractions especially!
another fun fact about velocicoaster: when the ride was originally being designed, there was planned to be an ending with an animatronic raptor jumpscare. The small show building for this animatronic portion was cut but in the video on the wall right before you see the animatronic raptors you can see the building still there in the coaster mock-up animation.
1:41:05 There's no onride POV or any view off the ride that really conveys how aggressive and fast it feels. It's an absolute sleeper. I love going on this ride with people for their fist ride. Everyone's jaw is on the floor.
Love that you guys covered this ride! One thing I love that I haven't heard anyone mention is that at the end of the ride while you are waiting to go back into the station you can hear Claire and Owen speaking. Claire mentions a "situation" over at the River Adventure for Owen to go handle. It's a great tie-in to the rest of the area and it always makes me want to ride River Adventure next to continue the story.
This was one of the first rollercoasters I rode while high on an edible at a theme park for the first time. I screamed an operatic scream that was long and continuous without taking a breath during that second top hat arch. Had my friends laughing 😂
50:59 idk if this was intentional on the ride devs part but - blue is the leader When you see the raptor heart rates during the pre show you can see blues heart rate going down way faster than the others, like she’s regulating herself better. Incredible detail.
I'm so glad you guys are talking about Velocicoaster! You're totally right that no on-ride footage could ever do it justice. I don't think there's any other roller coaster like this that makes you feel like it wants to THROW you out of it. That Mosasaurus Roll is absolutely unreal. Combined with the lack of over-the-shoulder restraints, makes Velocicoaster one of my top rides ever!
A deep cut Easter egg, in the line. When you are in the room that has the equipment on display there is a red clip for lack of a better term that has 6 holes. This you use in working with dangerous animals so that multiple different locks can be placed on one door. That was each "keeper" has there own specific key and thus a double check. It's a proven system in the zoological field to make things safer. Two people operating the locks and literally call out to each other after doing positive counts that they feel safe entering a enclosure after shifting animals on/off display.
A correction to something Byron had mentioned regarding the top hat. That is not actually a trim at the top of the top hat. The train is weighed at the 1st launch sequence (the build up section) and then launched. Based on the weight the forces of the LSMs are adjusted for each train so that when it launches through the second launch it crests the top hat at the correct speed. If for some reason the forces are such that the train just makes it to the top without being able to crest over, those are additional LSMs to push the train forward so that it doesn't stall on the top hat so that way a complicated evacuation is avoided. So long story short the trains aren't trimmed which in my opinion makes it even more amazing of a coaster.
@@watcherpodcasts y'all are doing great! When I first saw the layout I thought it was a trim too but bigger coaster nerds than me such as eltororyan pointed out the true purpose of that element. I just thought it was a cool tidbit and a testament of the great lengths Universal goes to to ensure a superior experience for park guests. Love y'alls podcasts ♥
Velocicoster was my first ride of the day (at 9am) and I waited 25 mins with the fast pass. Rode it as the last ride the same day (at 4pm) and waited 8 mins!! My fave roller coaster I’ve ever been on❤️❤️❤️
My best friend and I rode this for the first time (4 times in a row) at their 21st b-day after Margaritaville for *breakfast* They threw up in the Dino pavilion like 10 minutes later lmao it’s my new all time favorite ride
I rode Velocicoaster and Hagrid for the first time each the same day and it was a life-changing day of ride experience for me. In my opinion, this is the BEST coaster in the world. Everytime someone is going to Islands all I do is tell them to make sure they get on this. World class. Hands down. I don't even need to watch this whole video to know it's a ten out of ten. I mean I will watch this whole thing. But I expect a ten or you're wrong.
I'm fortunate enough to visit Universal Orlando quite often and, honestly, VelociCoaster is a must-do every trip. I've been on it many times and it never loses its WOW factor. I absolutely love it. Additionally, this is my first time seeing Theme Park Obsession, I love the vibe between you three. Excellent podcast this week, pals!
the second time i went on this ride was during testing, i got incredibly lucky and got a rollback, i thought it was a part of the coaster that had just gotten added and i will just say it was insane. So much love for this coaster
I look forward to your podcasts! Thank you both for being you and for giving us theme park nerds fun videos! And thank you Dylan, I’ve been a fan for years!
I’m new to theme parks my boyfriend bring me to universal for the first time in March and day two we opened with velocicoaster and i thought I was going to die and have dreamed about going back since

Love velcicoaster! I'm from Ohio and I am always comparing roller coasters to the ones at cedar point. I love the stuff that they show in the line for velcicoaster too. The fact that the engineers made it to feel like you are going to fall out is crazy awesome 😂
I remember getting on Velocicoaster with my family around the time it was completed. When everyone re-convened to walk down the steps to the exit, I loved how much energy we all had talking about how insane it was. Its moments like those that bring me back to theme parks.
@ Ryan's story about the vomit on Velocicoaster, I remember when I went to Universal as a kid and the same thing happened on Hulk. The employees were telling us there was a, quote, "Gamma Spill" 😂
My favorite fun fact is that allegedly the rock work in the spaghetti bowl is the Halloween Horror Nights puppet for stranger things. I’m forgetting the name but it’s the big monster. The same guy who made the puppet did the rock work. (From the river adventure employees I have talked to)
Perfect timing! I'm riding Velocicoaster tomorrow!!! (And Cosmic Rewind on Friday) My partner is riding with me, the only coaster they've ever been on was Seven Dwarves Mine Train, and they agreed to this sight-unseen. This will be the last time they ever willingly ride a coaster, so it has to be a great one.
Wife and I took our three sons (11yr, 7yr, & 5yrs) to the park and everyone rode Hagrid’s together. Then the 11 year old rode Velocicoaster by himself! He loved it!

when they talked about the Taron blitz coaster, they pronounced it the exact same as my name is and that was honestly such a jumpscare LOL
the airtime you get on this coaster is honestly breathtaking and amazing when you get to experience it in person. Had a blast.

@1:24:54 they did not develop new screens for this ride. Transparent OLED screens already existed. They only devolved/ special ordered a certain size.
Yeah, they should’ve used the locker and animatronics arguments rather than the screens
Best day of the week when this pod comes out! Look forward to it every week!
There is literally no roller coaster in the world that scares me more than this one. I thought I was going to die.
Velocicoaster: Almost 2 years to build.
Tron: 5+ years of a copy/paste ride.
You have to get Molly from Mammoth Club on to do Hagrid's
Yessss!!
I would die for that crossover!!
Yes!
I believe you mean Hagrid's magical creatures motorbike adventure tm
