I’m sure it’ll never happen since they’re already joking about this podcast being financially unviable, but it would be cool if there was a main Watcher channel show where they went to smaller regional parks looking for world class rides. Then maybe some rides outside of the big parks could be covered on this pod.

I have the deepest respect to you two for riding this ride during Ryan’s bachelor party.
This episode brings up an interesting problem with the Premature Detrackulation question. "Does it finish too soon?" doesn't work when the ride is either (a) so fantastic that you want it to last forever or (b) so horrible that you want it over as fast as possible.
I have a similar issue with the smartphone test. I crochet little creatures I take to interesting places to make photos of them. I also sew and I'm doing small photo sessions with any new thing I made. I can be totally immersed in a queue with my phone in hand, because I'm taking photos of my creatures or I'm having my photo taken on an interesting corner (mind you The Mummy is my favourite movie and I have a Evelyn cosplay, I'm 100% taking photos on that queue). And on the other hand, I might be bored by another queue, and I'll be knitting, or crocheting.
One thing they didn't mention is that you can sing "One Little Spark" as a countermelody to "It's a Small World."

I’ve ridden this exactly once when I was pretty young and the only thing I remember was thinking “wow that was Bad.”
I will forever mourn the original version of the ride that I never got to experience. I love Tony Baxter’s work and it’s kind of disappointing how often his vision seems to get sacrificed through budget cuts and refurbishments :(
I was in Epcot the day of the Figment popcorn bucket, it was absolutely insane. And I think the fact that people would wait 5 hours for that popcorn bucket should really be a message to Disney that they should move heaven and earth to restore the original version (or something closer to it). The people DEMANd Figment!
ok but it's funny that the scent is actually coffee, because every time I go into a Starbucks, I feel like the coffee smells like skunky weed. Also my dad bought a brand of coffee once that smelled like straight skunk to me every time he made it. So maybe there are some coffee beans that smell skunkier than others lol.

Okay so I stopped this to watch the original version ride through (I've ridden the new version), and I am so angry. That was phenomenal....just...we lost something special.
No matter what the outcome is, Journey into Imagination will live on in our hearts as a World Class Attraction.
1:04:30 How it happened was that for some reason, the original contract with Kodak specified that it needed an update after a certain number of years, but it didn't specify that Kodak had to pony up additional money for it. By the time the mandated renovation rolled around, Kodak was doing badly and declined to volunteer any finds. So they did the cheapest possible "update" they could think of.
my favorite parts of this ride are actually the flubber references in the queue, with weebo and the flubbers dancing behind the door lol
saying that “the bang room” isn’t what you think it is and then explaining that it’s figment dropping an atomic bomb gave me such insane whiplash

As someone who has only been on version 3 back in 2003 and was for the most part disappointed (aside from the bang room), I desperately wish they’d just recreate the original. I hate what it is now. They literally took all the imagination from the original and turned it into a very plain and boring “institute” setting. Why in the world would they think that’s a good idea? The original would be same level as Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean if it was still around. It’s clear people want what it used to be. Why Disney has sat on this new version is truly mind boggling. Yes it would be expensive, but I think Disney can swing the money. Unless the investors are that uptight (which…. Yeah that might be the reason… investors are awful and money hungry always wanting to cut costs rather than deliver quality)
The original figment ride and horizons are my Roman Empire. Thankful to have ridden both as a kid. Can’t wait til you guys do episodes on defunct attractions~
Tbh this ride is a very comfort ride to me, because when I went to WDW with my family as a child, whenever my parents were tired from walking around under the Florida heat, they`d take us to Journey Into Imagination to sit down and chill under the AC for a while. On the drive home we`d all be humming this catchy asf song

I was also a kid who only wanted to go to Epcot. And you're right, if Figment was at Disneyland, I don't think it would have become the huge thing he is for Epcot. And I love Figment now because he is a relic of classic Epcot, and I cling to every bit of the original park.
On a tangent, it would be interesting for them to discuss Tokyo Disneyland's Duffy love that elevated it from a failed Epcot marketing gimmick to a full fledged franchise for Asia Disney parks. Its not an attraction exactly but they could discuss it the same way they discussed the Epic Universe news
I never realized that Journey Into The Imagination is the product of a man who asked his son what his ideal Disneyland ride would be and ended up making Star Tours. It all makes sense now and I'm more grateful they added Figment back to the ride.

Figment is the love of my life. He stole my heart decades ago and it still belongs to him. I have yet to do the new Figment meet & greet but that is probably for the best - I don’t want to end up in jail for attempted Figment dragon napping.
This ride will always have a special place in my heart. When we were kids it was one of my little sisters favorite rides and when my daughter was 3 and we had passes she loved it. The fact that there was barely a wait like ever was nice too.
You all are literally the best and every guest you have is the best and the entire show is the best. That is all.

This version of the ride has appreciated a little for the part at the end. And I think that my youngest kid loves the character because of my love for the character but I enjoy the ride more now than I did without kids.
Fun little fact, especially since you guys mentioned Guardians, Figment is actually in the queue of Mission break out in CA. If you look up to the left of the screen when you are in the collectors room, he is one of the cases hanging from the ceiling. That case is very opaque, and you can only see the shape of him from certain angles, but he is there! Ask a cast member to point him out! As a diehard Figment Fan, I was so excited to see him when I traveled out west. It was like having a little bit of Epcot there with me.

I use to work on that ride back in 2010! My name is on a small stack of papers on a clipboard just before facing figment heading into the touch/taste labs. CM’s who worked that ride would leave their signature on this clipboard during a track walk. It’s still there today!
My standard trip to Epcot: I go to the Land. I go to visit Figment. I drink. I eat. If any of those four things don't happen, it was not a successful trip.

HAPPY TUESDAY!! my favorite show! so excited as an Epcot girly!
The first time I got to ride Figment was 4 years ago. Knowing nothing what had come before, only knowing the purple little dragon is an Ecot symbol. I geniunly loved the ride, it covered lots of kid sci-fy like flubber and shunk the kids that I always loved. I could see that it was more of edutainment ride for kids, and from that perspective it was great! Then I discovered the original, I can no longer suspend my disbelief and love the ride. I am excited to get to ride it with my daughter when it comes time and to see her reactions. If it gets refurbished before that though, it wont hurt my feelings. Figment NEEDS a re-vamp, bring back dreamfinder, bring back the whole track, BRING BACK THE RAINBOW TUNNEL!

If I could reverse time... I'd ride on the original Journey infinite times til I die. The best memory of 80's me is this ride.
I road this for the first time a month ago. I knew about the love people had for Figment but didn’t really know the history of the ride. So I was definitely confused after the ride trying to piece together why people loved Figment so much.
Wild to me that they said nobody looks stoked after figment/leaves with a bounce in their step because both me and my mother quite literally bounce down the hallway singing “one little spark”
The day has come! I have no idea what the outcome will be but it will always be World Class in my heart :)

Figment was the character I latched onto my first visit to Disney World when I was 3 in like 1994. I. LOVED. HIM.
The last time I visited in 2012, many years after, I felt myself questioning hard why I thought this ride was so special to me as a tiny human. It was weird and just not what I remembered. Then I learned how drastically it changed. My mom was also confused and disappointed. I hope they eventually rework the ride to mirror the wonderful origins.

"Flubber" (1997) was also not the first remake of "The Absent-Minded Professor." (1961.) There was also a made-for-TV remake/soft reboot in 1988 starring Harry Anderson, which even got its own sequel!

Say what you will, but I remember riding this as a kid at Disney world. And it was my favorite and most memorable ride of my childhood. Love the show.
1:12:43 Since it came up a couple times, the reason for killing the original Journey wasn't it's unreliablity. There's a great Yeaterworld video about Journey into Your Imagination, that explains it (which was a crossover with Defunctland).
Yes the ride needed an extended closure for maintenance, and Disney was wanting to update the ride during that. But the original plans were to keep the bones of the first Journey.
The issue was Disney didnt want to put up the money themselves, and kept asking for Kodak for the money. But Kodak was struggling financially due to digital cameras becoming popular, and wouldn't pay for a full refurbishment.
Eventually Disney agreed that Kodak could pay a fraction of the full cost. And then Disney decided instead of having to pick and choose what to refurbish, they would make a new cheap ride on a shorted track.
So basically digital cameras killed Journey into Imagination.
i was never super into figment and then I learned that my crush's ex had a figment tattoo and the breakup traumatized him so badly that he was once 2 hours late to meeting me at epcot cause he saw her in the parking lot and he had a breakdown in his car. so now i really just associate figment with her(a woman ive never met)

Lmao!!! This was great! We just took my sons GF to WDW for her first trip, we go frequently, so wanted to share the hype. This was her first ride...EVER. I felt so bad, I didn't think of it at the time, we just wanted to get on a ride fast, and obv this one didn't have a line. So I failed her lmao she was like it was, uh, cute????
Fun fact; i have been to disney with my family 15 times and our last trip was the first time that my family had experienced this ride.
I had a little figment when I was a small child and have a vague memory of seeing this at Epcot and I never feared and/or loved anything more than that little guy 😂❤

I usually start in Canada but we do multiple laps and start on both sides. I'm not a drinker though. Epcot is my favorite park though!
Also, Living with the Land is my favorite ride with figment being 2nd. I have ridden all 3 versions and of course the original was the best.
Fun fact; Eric Idle used to shop at the WFM on Coldwater & Riverside when it was a normal grocery store.
