This lady is speaking facts. I moved to another country to start a new job. A couple of months after I arrived, the CEO gave a presentation on the state of the business. He spoke about the secured revenue for the current financial year, and the balance sheet. For whatever the reason, he conveniently avoided the topic of profit.
This has been a red flag since. I was star struck when I first arrived here, but now I realize that it’s time for me to be more vigilant and aware. Something is cooking, and I’m here preparing myself in case the rug gets pulled from right under my feet.

I always say to people, do not be loyal to any employer and you should leave when things start to go wrong. You are replaceable and forgotten quickly. You and your family come first.

Was in the same situation with one of the 2 companies, when my contract ended they did not renew despite the bragging that the company was growing. Was depressed for like a week or so. Since then I only go for permanent contracts and i now choose jobs.

    • @3522able

This company came back to me after 5 months when they were now preparing for another busy season and in that moment I had power which I gladly used to decline the short-term contract. Yes, you are right, we should never stop investing in ourselves.

I appreciate your vulnerability and hope the lessons learnt make you wiser. I still am curious though as to what was so important back home that you chose to work in such a unstable economy when a better future was handed to you on a silver platter. You are so talented in your field that I feel you are worth more than your current employer is paying you. The opportunity to do your job in a different country alone gives you resume a great boost and the job opportunities after that are world wide and endless. I was just thinking of what could have been.

    • @CareersWithMaud

Thank you for the compliments. And not being rude with your question. It was both a financial and strategic decision. When the contracts came, going to London and an adjustment for cost of living, woulc make me save only a third of what i could save here. And the terms would make my CV unstable for what i really wanted to achieve. And 3rd, i really wanted to spend time with my family and friends because i know sooner or later i will leave, and for something that is not audit. It will make sense soon, when I am really ready to share those reasons in detail. Stay tuned

Fun fact, the day that the layoff waere announced was the day that I got news of my moms passing💔.
That call got me so emotional as i was suppossed to go on maternity leave in Feb.
I understood that i was not making any money for the company and it made financial sense for them to lay me off.
What i learnt is to never be too comfortable and learn to save for rainy days as no job is safe.
Thanks for the video what you said here is true.
