    I drove both, the Golf's seatbelt buckle digs into my hip when the Jetta's didn't. I find the Jetta a LOT more comfortable.

    In comparing the two cars why did you fail to mention the most obvious difference, the hard plastic cheap interior of the Jetta VS the premium soft material interior of the Golf?

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Steve W The Jetta still has a soft touch dash, but the front door panels are hard plastic rather than the Golfs soft touch. But even the Golfs rear door panels are hard plastic..

      Brandon Friesen In the US only the GLI & SEL have soft dashes and they are not the most sold.

    Hey autoguide what would you say now that the Jetta has the new 1.4L turbo engine? Does it change the outcome at all?

  • @tranceformerfx
    @tranceformerfx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It kills me that people still have a superiority complex when it comes to Manuals, and when ever an Automatic is recommended - they take it as an insult to their ego.
    Spoiler:
    Formula1, Daytona, and professional drag cars are standard in Automatic transmissions. Why?
    Because modern cars shift gears better than people. Get over it.

    • @exeuroweenie
      @exeuroweenie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That cracks me up as well.It seems cars are as contentious a subject as politics or religion.I grew up driving manuals,then converted to auto because city driving is a pain in the ass enough without shifting.When I drove sticks I didn't consider myself a saint or martyr,though.

    • @leapfrog4561
      @leapfrog4561 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TranceFormerFX I would say That a manual is still more durable and less problematic.

    I just traded in my 2017 Jetta for a 2018 Golf GTI autobahn. I have no clue what this guy is talking about with the transmission. The automatic transmission in the Jetta is the worst transmission I’ve ever experienced in a car. The dsg in the Golf GTI is so much smoother and feels more refined. The Jetta transmission shifts very roughly and just feels weird.

  • @uos64
    @uos64 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can't decide golf vs gti ... I like the softer side of the golf because we have a lot of crappy roads here. But I love the dsg in GTI

    I wish this video was up a few months ago when I was considering a Golf and Jetta, but I still chose the Golf. The top trim Golf has features the Jetta doesn't. The 1.8t Jetta can't come with rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, or the big sunroof. But the price came out to over $30,000! Paid a bit too much but the car is sooo good. The Mazda3 and Focus can't even compete!

    • @Beer_Dad1975
      @Beer_Dad1975 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Friesen Except for $30,000 you can get a fully optioned Focus ST, which might not be as nice inside as the Golf, but is better looking outside (subjective I know, but most people would agree the Golf is very bland looking) and rapes the 1.8T Golf in performance and dynamics (objectively) AND have enough money left over to fuel it for a year or more. All depends on what you want though, performance and good looks vs economy and premium finish. To say that Ford and Mazda can't compete is not accurate at all though, clearly in a lot of areas their offerings are a lot better than the Golf, particularly taking price into consideration.

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Sharpe I live in Canada so a fully optioned focus St here would cost $38,000. In your guys' money, I paid 27,500 for my car. But here, it's 30k I paid. Comparing at ST to a 1.8t is unfair. The car is much more expensive, I'd have to pay 2,000 more to get a base St. And who wants a base model car? I know a Ford technician and he says new Ford engines to avoid are all ecoboost engines. The only solid Ford engines being made today are the 2.0L in the base focus, the 3.7 and the 5.0. I wouldn't touch an ecoboost with a 10 foot pole if I had to own one. Carbon build up is becoming a major issue, bad coils, random misfires, fuel leaks, weak turbos and failing intake manifolds.
      I almost went for a titanium focus but it didn't offer the power and fuel mileage that the 1.8t gets. I work for Mazda and almost bit the bullet on a '15 Mazda3 GT 2.5L but they're cheaply made and the engines are almost as bad as the ecoboosts. That, plus after warranty I want to modify my car for power and Mazda has pretty much 0 popular tuning companies while VAG has 2 of the biggest in the world, APR and unitronic. Once Mazda becomes popular, works on their build quality and enhances durability and longevity, then I'll buy one since maintenance costs will be high in my golf.

    • @Beer_Dad1975
      @Beer_Dad1975 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandon Friesen Ah, I just assumed you were talking US dollars. I'm in NZ, and VW's bizarrely suffer from euro badge snobbery here, the dealers know they can charge a premium for the badge because their customers would never consider a Japanese or American brand, so a well specced golf 2 liter can run you close to $50,000, which is very similar to the Focus ST and far, far more expensive than a standard Mazda 3 or Focus.
      The Golf GTI is in the $60K+ area here, so I have no idea why people buy them because that's crazy money.
      Sounds like you have done your research anyway.

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Sharpe Geez that's a ripoff! As much as I live volkswagens, I'd totally go to Mazda or Ford for that price. That's just ridiculous.

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ericj305 Where I live it gets sunny and I love big sunroofs. The one in the Jetta will do but the golfs is much bigger. Also rain sending wipers is really nice to have and so is auto lights. And the golf is about $2,000 more than a Jetta. Those features are probably half that price. The nicer interior and chassis is the other half.

    You talk about being fun to drive (taking corners fast) and then recommend an AUTOMATIC transmission? Tell the truth, you don't know how to use the third pedal, do you?
    As for practical, the Golf just doesn't have enough room until you get to the SportWagen. And even that is a bit smaller than my '93 Accord Wagon was.
