2Faded Dominic You heard the scandal about vw diesels i hope(not just vw did that tho). It burns on trash fuel, the excess of making petrol, dont tell me its “healthier”. while in a petrol car(what is stock) only water and co2 comes out of the exhaust, while a diesel smoke is more complex i think. And have you seen a dpf regeneration process? They dont count that into the emissions when they test it. Also its a trend in the eu that guys cut out the cat and woaa it smoking like a coal factory, diesels are for long distances, like you fill it up and drive 200miles or so. Or trucks. I simply hate them, hate working on them, hate driving them. By the way what you replied to was supposed to point out that japanese diesel cars are not that good and reliable as some people think

This is an old car as the Jetta Mk6 is ultimately derived from the ancient Golf Mk5 from September 2003. This means the Jetta is even even older than you. The questions begs: why do you want a sedan at all? A Golf hatchback is far more versatile and practical. You ought to be aiming for a 2012 Golf Mk7, as this is a much newer car compared to the Golf Mk6 / Jetta Mk6. 🇩🇪 🇪🇺

I have an American 15 Passat TDI SE with Sunroof, wanted the full sized to have more room for family.
I absolutely love it and does great on the highway, which I do a lot of driving on. The highest I got the mpg up to was 58.6 on the highway. At a 16 gallon tank I can theoretically max it out 938 miles on a single tank. That is a drive from New York City to Jacksonville Florida on one tank.
Sure the exterior went the safe route and didn't do anything crazy, but looking at other cars I was in the market for, the Civic, Cruze, Legacy, they didn't blow my mind on the exterior either.
The interior is comfortable, clean, modern and German feeling.

Just a quick warning to anybody thinking about modifying this vehicle: My 6 speed MKVI TDI has a DPF and two cats. It's straight piped from the axel back and makes absolutely no sound over stock. Deleting the DPF is absolutely mandatory to get any sort of performance gains (you'll need a tune as well since deleting it throws codes like crazy) so I'd honestly recommend the MKIV TDI since there is no DPF because it was before the requirement. Not sure if DPF deletes are legal in other states, but it is illegal here in California. That being said, the car is excellent for its price. I put in 15 bucks a week and do a considerable amount of driving. School, work, picking up my brother from his school, car meets, general errands, etc. The manual transmission is fun, but like he said, plenty of vibration in the clutch pedal. It's definitely luxurious, but there are bolts EVERYWHERE. Yes, the annoying torx screw ones. There's like 8 on the air box alone. Doesn't seem like there's too much room for modification, but it's a decently fun car and the gas mileage is no joke. I can achieve up to 60 MPG on the highway driving like a grandma.

And if you decide to tune (chip) this TDI you make near 180 hp, 300 lb-ft torque and get better mpg.
In the MK4 generation TDI you could get 220 whp and near 320 lb-ft while getting 50 mpg highway with just a turbo/injector and tune. Diesel has a lot of potential, i don't know why it isn't more popular in the states

This engine is a CBEA if I'm not mistaken. Nearly identical to the CJAA as found in my 2014 Jetta TDI.
When you first start the car it takes a few minutes to start blowing cool. It actually feels like heat for the first minute and a half or so. You get the coldest air when the vehicle is in motion. I do notice when I'm at idle it will blow slightly warmer but I have a 4runner and TSX that do the same thing. I live in Tennessee. I am speaking for when it's 85/90f+.

Did you now if this car have DPF (Diesel particulate filter)? And also, did diesel in the Usa have DPF? In Europe, where i live, DPF is standard equipment

Looking at getting my first car in the next few years and will start saving soon. Right now I have a 14 year old Chevy Cavalier that is a family hand me down. Looking at either a Volkswagen Golf or jetta, or a Honda civic. I would prefer to go new as opposed to used and standard transmission. However, living in Canada we often have -40 degrees Celsius in the dead of Winter. When it comes do Diesel now a days, are freezing lines still a problem? Of course I can plug it in to keep it warm, how much energy does it use? Also, I often wait in my car for the engine to heat up before driving, will a plugged in Diesel mean less time waiting in my car for it to warm up enough to drive without being hard on it?
I'm just in the research phase right now.

Anyone know if the specs of this car have changed after VW had to fix or "update" the tune on these engines?

I am curious to know what sub model this is. I currently own a 2015 VW TDI SEL w/ a DSG transmission. My model, made in March of 2015, has 4 wheel independent suspension, not the multil link track axle you show here. My dashboard is also different. I have a digital fuel gauge & no temperature gauge. Furthermore, my multifunction display does not show oil temperature. And you mention this model has adaptive headlights, turning left to right, yet I have never seen any VW with the exception of the Phateon (discontinued). Also your model doesn’t have a trunk lid spoiler nor did you mention the DEF tank in the trunk in the right rear...

It;s nice to see diesel power coming to USA - more efficient than petrol for long journies. And it's manual. Good job! It's a lovely car by the way, if you drive sensibly you will get 50 plus MPG easily.
Being from the UK diesel power is common here.
Though I'd love to drop a Cummins diesel in there :D

the first thing I do to this car is cut off the exhaust system and have something sporty put on it. Now I'm not a young man anymore but I have a Subaru 98 legacy that has a modified exhaust I just love the sign of the engine. And I'd like to hear the turbo on that engine coming out the tail and also the diesel sound.obviously it's not a V8 diesel or an inline-6 so it's not going to make a lot of chattering sounds but I would probably remove the insulation under the hood just so I could maybe hear that engine.
My goal is to keep the Subaru in and one day get this car.

That’s insane gas mileage for the ‘15 TDI. I have a ‘09 Jetta 2.5L automatic and it gets 21 city, 30 highway. I have to fill up for gas like once or twice a month. I use the car for short distance driving. So I make the best out of the mpg.

I had a 05 TDI, honestly they're great road cars. Low end power and speed to make them fun, but they're a dog at high speeds which keeps you from getting in trouble. The only thing I didn't feel great about was VW used super thin wires for everything. At one point I got a trouble code for the turbocharger VNT actuator. After looking underneath one of the 3 wires going to it had broken in half from the heat hardening it and making it brittle. It looked like the same 16 or so gauge wire they use for the radio harness. Not even a wire loom over them. Not ideal.

I would take the computer's MPG calculation with a grain of salt, especially on short highway trips.
A more accurate way of testing mileage is to fill up, reset trip meter, drive a full tank, refill with consistent factors everytime, and divide miles driven by gallons pumped.

I have a 2009 TDI Jetta. This is the 3rd TDI I've owned including a 2012 TDI that was sold back to VW.
The 09 TDI has been modified with a bigger turbo and injectors. It still gets over 50mpg hand calculated. 184HP and nearly 300lb ft torque.
