    Use phosphoric acid on the rust. Wirewheel everything, then use Ospho or Klean Strip concrete & metal prep. They work great. It neutralizes the rust so it doesn't spread. Then paint over it with a epoxy primer then finally raptor liner it. That's what I found works great. 👍🏽

    The "tar like coating" is an undercoating used on tanks to prevent rust but also it stops rocks from denting, chipping or puncturing the surface causing leaks. removing that and used a hard coating like ceramic isn't the best option as it will chip off if it has an impact from rocks or road debris.

  • @craig2963
    @craig2963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I will have to keep putting this down here....Scotch-Brite Roloc Surface Conditioning Discs. Get a pack and give them a try, you will love them if you try them. Would have been great for the fuel tank prep. No metal in them so no sparks like your wire wheel was doing.

    At first I thought you were nuts for wanting to strip down and coat the fuel tank, but as I watched the progress and saw it finished, I realized that you knew exactly what you were doing. Very impressive and it turned out better than new👍( hope you didn't grind through any spot welds for the internal fuel baffles )

    Hey bro another great option is POR-15 for things you can't bake and powder coat. We use that up here in Canada and its great . It dries with a great shine too that looks like clearcoat was applied

  • @lancelarson6710
    @lancelarson6710 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shining that tank up, i would get an air 90° sander with the green plastic gasket remover pad on it, with all the little nubs. Work like a charm, i use those things when im patching a tire also, it scuffs up the inside of the tire around the hole just right to lay a patch down.

  • @maverick2242

    You can make it (Raptor flatter, look into the instructions as to the mix,) 2 ways turn up the psi or add reducer! You could also lightly sand, for thos who want OTT and finish with a std black paint and finish.
    Also why didn’t you use some Pryme wheel kits on the fuel tank esp the top section, would have been so much quicker safer and easier,.
    Came out good though,, I don’t mind the rougher look on the tank it will absorb and deflect road rubbish better and protect the tank better. good work, turned out great, imo def worth the extra effort, it’s these details that make the build, it was needed imo, great work. 🤙

    man i get so nervous using angle grinders and cut off wheels. I had a cut off wheel explode. it started jumping while I was cutting and before I could pull away is exploded. Thankfully I was wearing thick gloves and eyewear. after that ive been manually using hacksaws to cut my metals. 🤣🤣🤣
    love the way it came out. I planned on doing this to my evo's tank as well. raptor liner will protect it from road debris.
