There was a rule back in 4th or 5th edition for the rules supplement "Apocalypse" For context traditional 40k games are around 1500-2000 pts per players, a Space Marines model is 12 pts and a Tyranid gaunt is like 3-4pts , an Imperial guard solider is 4pts etc, you get the gist. An Apocalypse game is when you want to play on...Well on an Apocalyptic scale, where games would be between 4000 and 10.000pts if not more, the biggest Apoc games where around 500.000pts PER SIDES (teams of dozens of players playing in a whole darn gym) And to truely embrace and immerse the players in the Absolutly gigantic scale of the game in this mode, Armies had special rules, Stratagems and Formations that they could use wich would give them an edge. Stratagems where limited but could turn around a Battle Round, and Formations, where an organized Force of specific units that when the requirement where met, would allow for the use of Special rules that would normaly NOT be accesible. One of the formations for Tyranids, wich i've forgot the name, gave the Tyranid Horde(you HAd to fill in like 6 to 8 FULL sized Gaunts units and 3 FULL size Warriors units, and then some extra units as options, a full Gaunt unit was around 30 models..., thats a LOT of models) a rule that says "There's too many of them!!!", litteraly when an Enemy unit targeted swarms of Tyranids, they had to roll a D6 at the end of the Shooting phase, on a 5+( or something, going from memory here), the unit would "Run out of ammo", now there is normaly no concept of "ammo" in 40k rules, unless its a special weapon that has limited uses (many such wepaons exists that has like One use per battle etc), so that was something new. In brief the unit who ran out of ammo shooting at Tyranids, would not be able to shoot in the NEXT Shooting phase, they could do anything else instead, but Not shooting.
The swarm tech really make the tyranid feel alive, being control by a single hive mind. The way the swarm split into three so naturally was incredible.
A lot of these streamers haven't played the Saber classic WWZ. The sheer amount of swarm and the climbing on top of each other to get to the player on the high ground mechanic was their signature, even the Operations mode progression is the same. Too funny when they see it the first time. SM2 is WWZ reskin with extra steps and I love it! Love that old game!
Yes thank you! This is exactly like WWZ and that was such a fun game! Too many people are comparing it to Gears but it’s so much like WWZ since it’s Saber.
@@jamienicholas7500 Yeah I never got the GoW comparison. Was it because of the chainswords and executions? The cover system and the lack of for the other alone made their gameplay miles apart!
Its not the first time GW has had swarm-based enemies. Vermintide and Darktide make heavy use of such mechanics too (tho you probably knew that already.)
You can tell most of them haven't played the first one on how they keep trying to get away from enemies when the entire mechanics of the game is to keep killing to gain a bit of health and regain armor.
True horror show - first day play with a friend and my laptop didn't manage to process high count of enemies. So they were invisible. Did you think this inconvenience stopped us? No, because Emperor protects. But it was freaky to fight and avoid invisible enemies on max difficulty
I’m just trying to wrap my head around just how much time it must take to even go through hours and hours of different streamers footage to find interesting clips for this montage. How did you do it? How long did it take you?
( *Asmongold encountering the swarm* ) Asmongold: " maybe that's just cinematics and it does nothing " ( And it does in fact it is not cinematic and does something )
I love how most of the streamers were like shiiiiii me with my sadistic ass just 😈 let them come and may I die a glorious death if the emperor wills it
Or be a freaking 7ft tall superhuman in some of the most advanced armor and armed with some of the best weapons of your culture and time. And know it will only buy you some seconds more. Maybe a few minutes if you’re lucky. I Fricken love how well they did that XD
The true space marine 2 experience. Fighting, killing, doing the best you can, then you hear a couple "dinks" of damage, you look up - no armour and a scrap of health left. Where did it go? What took all of that in an instant? Why am I made of paper mache? Why do I HARDLY FEEL LIKE A SPACE MARINE? But god damn it's still fun as hell when you ignore those moments. Once you hit the flow of realising that you're way more vulnerable than you expect and everything's a threat if you let it hit you, it starts to feel good. Though at the same time I still really, genuinely wish we were more durable. The rally system is neat but it's not built for hordes and weirdly-slow-melee. Just gaining health and armour both on executions and tiny amounts on kills would put the game through the roof imo.
apparently when it comes to lore accurate Tyrinids, that swarm size in game is not lore accurate, it gets far, far worse

Yup. Thr swarm would have just kept coming....and coming
Yep it should be in the billions+ but really no point in rendering that. This game gets the point across fine enough
i like how the game clarifies this is only a splinter fleet
I think it would be more accurate for like a beginning stage of the swarm which I believe this is
"That's a cool background animation.... wait. that's not a background."
"Hey that's cool."
"..."
"Oh it's real."

"OH SHIT. *Bolter fire*"

Imagine if *Saber Interactive* one day decided to remaster *Space Marine 1.*
The Green Tide would look amazing!
Yes! Would love a Remaster of Space Marine 1
The masculine urge to face and entire horde alone to establish dominance
Smallest Tyranid Swarm be like

@@KreschavierI knew but I forgot lol thanks for reminding me, they're rotting in my library
7:26 You just know some Speedrunners are looking at that with great interest
Honestly, this is less than a fraction of a percent for how a Tyranid invasion usually goes.
8:10 when your ragdoll breakdances better than Raygun
That Gargoyle had some skills man
3:35 HOLY CRAP!!!! They’re like the scarabs from “The Mummy”🤣
Their ripper swarms are exactly that, the imperial guardsmen calls them ankle biters.
You can tell most of them haven't played the first one on how they keep trying to get away from enemies when the entire mechanics of the game is to keep killing to gain a bit of health and regain armor.
It's pretty accurate to how a Tyranid Invasion would go lol
"ooooohhhh SHIT.... Gimme the grenades!!" Is an absolutely perfect response to Nids showing up
Everyone is glad that these tyranids are from the 5th and 6th edition...the 10th ones are FAR, FAR WORSE
No wonder helldiver fans, 40k warhammer fans and rock digger dwarf fans join together to hate bugs
That reaction of "oh, those are real." Though. They were just not ready
That impression at 3:40 had me rolling. What a voice 😂

Orks tried to get rid of that splinter fleet by painting all tyranids violet. It only half-worked. You were unlucky to stumble upon the result XD
Why is Asmongold surprised? That exactly how the cockroaches enter his room.
Enter? They never exited it in the first place
“They’re just part of the background”
“Oh, I can shoot them from afar?”
“ThEy’Re cLiMbING tHE WAAAAAALLS!!!!”
And the phrase "Shoot anywhere" became canon.

How did you do it? How long did it take you?
And everyone thought the Orks were bad.
Chapter Master Dante had to deal with something even far more fucked up
If this Swarm Horde were already chaotic enough, you deffinitly wouldnt want the Book lore accurate version of Tyranid Swarm Horde 🗿
Tyranid players watching this: “Yes, I should definitely buy a few more boxes of Hormagaunts at the weekend…”

Is it okay that background animation runs at us? 😂
They never played WWZ game (same devs) if they still shocked to see this hordes numbers 😂

The Emperor approves.
Wait... you can fall off ledges in this game?!
Awesome!
Definitely getting Astro Bot first but I will have Space Marines 2 in my grasp before long
That was some crazy stuff alright. Just plain nuts.
That's my faction baby! Tyranids!
see it in 2x speed, have fun))
The girl was so totally disassociated from her character. It was sad.
This is just a scout force to.
good job
why you have doom music in background
Far too few people have played the WWZ game.
i love the doom music
I could make them react to the thousand sons, I think it would be interesting.
FOR THE EMPERORRRRRRRR
just like a new in wwz xd
Gonna need some backup
theres not a singe video game that cant be improved with the addition of hte doom soundtrack.
