    Excellent tutorial. One of the best I've seen yet. Subscribed, and liked. I'll be back. Thanks. BTW: I could hardly tell which shots were done with the RX100 m4, or with the A7 (for the most part.) Love that little 100 mk4.

    Many thanks from France, your video is clear and usefull. I installed the aplication on my Sony alpha 6500 and I did it with the wifi like you, the procedure via the computer not working !
    Another remark is on the nbre on frame per second : only 2 possibilities 24p or 30p when we use to work in 25p in Europe. But using 24p, it's easy to adjust in 25p.

    I couldn't find a way to turn the screen off, however, one thing I love is that you can connect a battery brick through the USB which can provide very long run times for time lapse if you use a large capacity usb battery!

    Boy - you exactly captured my experience with buying and installing the time lapse software. By the time I finished chasing my tail, I had wasted 2 or 3 precious hours of life that can never be retrieved. Like you, I also felt that it was nuts to waste time collecting $10 to put software on such an expensive camera. Finally - like you - I could not help thinking that Canon (or Apple) would never put its customers through such torture. Buying this software dredged up every miserable experience I have had with SONY over the years (noisy VCR drives, overpriced "optional" equipment features, unreliable high-end gear; analog displays priced like competitors' digital; top-line monitors with a little :shadow" line ⅓ of the way up from the bottom of the screen). And all the final indignity: demanding agreement to pages of legalese fine print and personal information for the privilege of buying their $10- app. Ever since the rootkit scandal, I have felt no trust for SONY, though some of their products (like the Rx100 series) have overcome my negative feelings about the company. Anyway, thanks for posting the tutorial and for expressing the aggravation we shared with the miserable user experience
    Gene.

    I find the Time-Lapse app more interesting and way better than the Slow Motion...good that I bought me the RX100V instead the M6 ..because the Play memories doesn't exist anymore on the RX100m6..!and btw...your Time-lapse footage is really awesome...what an awesome picture-quality that is...wow

    Thank you. Really helpful guide. I´ve been resisting to pay 10 euros to get this app for my Rx100 mIV. Just as you say I consider it a mean trick from Sony. But... I´ve been given also a Sony a6300, and for 10€ I can install this app in both cameras (that makes 5€ each if you want to trick yourself... :-) ). I´ve installed it in both cameras directly but through cable connexion to my Mac. The app has been downloaded right to my cameras and I´ve had no problem. As far as I´ve used it is a great app (no justification for the 10€ though, Sony). I´ve enjoyed your video. Wish i could try it in Kuala Lumpur also....

    • @CTLOnTheLine
      @CTLOnTheLine  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I have it on both my a7s and rx100. How are you liking the 6300?

    • @MrNeurovegal
      @MrNeurovegal 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These are my two first Sony cameras (Canon guy my whole life). My a6300 (I have it just one week ago) is doing really great. I bought it looking for some medium size camera that shoot a good 4K (doing some experiments in video field...) with interchangeable lenses. I´m greatly surprised for the quality both of the video and the still images. Super fast focus and really good colors and definition. I´m looking for a better lens. Not the best ergonomics fora camera though, A bit of overheating but not as much as I´ve read... IMHO you can´t expect more on a 1000 € camera. If you're interested in video is a really good value. If you´re only for still images I guess is better look for a a7r or a7rII. And really really LOVE mi RX 100 mIV.

    There's no excuse for ANY camera today to lack time-lapse functions. Time lapse is essentially FREE to implement;.
    I wonder if Nikon is ripping customers off like this with their new DL models. They're the only manufacturer that has pulled its head out of its ass and included time-lapse on its SLRs, while Canon doesn't (and still peddles a ridiculously overpriced and crippled external remote).

    • @CTLOnTheLine
      @CTLOnTheLine  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi:) For sunset timelapse, i use custom settings, you can experiment between the aperture and shutter. In that shot i used shutter priority. I use about 8-10 seconds between shots. Actually, I alsways use custom settings. If you have moving subject and you want blur, i find that setting the shutter to a slower release helps and then the AEL to low so that it doesnt bounce around. Also try and set the WB, if you leave it in auto, it can change midway. I did nothing in post. That footage is straight out of the camera.

    Just to confirm. Was the opening shot of this video shot with the app? can this app do slow shutter timelapse? to see lights trailing? This app will make a movie at the end right so that there's no need to do the timelapse in post production. This is easier for sure...

    I figured out out that if you turn "Scan SSL" off on your AV, ( I have Bitdefender). It fixes the problem with not connecting to the camera and app store. I guess IE reports this as an error for some reason and the anti-virus blocks it. This gave me a headache as well for a while. Hope this helps.

  • @Bonedriven1984
    @Bonedriven1984 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can make in-camera video timelapse, but only in 1080p? There still is no option for 4k? (or perhaps sony updated the app?)

    • @CTLOnTheLine
      @CTLOnTheLine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, the camera does not output a 4k time-lapse video, only output video option for time-lapse is 1080. The alternate solution, is to output the time-lapse in JPEG pictures, then in your editing software you can create a movie from your series of jpegs thats are 4k. It is more work but possible.

      You can adjust the time between pictures to suit your needs. You can also plug in a USB battery brick to the camera which would allow the camera to be powered on for much much longer than the cameras internal battery as the USB battery brick would charge the internal battery. It gives you a lot of flexibility.

      +onenarrowdoor Good grief. Just noticed that you only have 500,000 shutter actuations. is it possible to take time lapse in 4k on this camera?

    • @CTLOnTheLine
      @CTLOnTheLine  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +f50koenigg you have three choices of how to "output" the timelapse.. 1. video file 2. picture files 3 video files + picture files. If I select to output as a video file it is the .avi format. I have a choice of 24 frames per second or 30 frames per second only. In both 24p/30p the size resolution is either FHD 1920x1080 or HD 1280x720. So, if you have the camera output the file into a video which is what i do, then FHD is the max. It will not output 4K video. You MAY be able to output the files as pictures in a larger resolution and then use a program like quicktime to make a 4K video time lapse.

      Hopefully they make an update for the firmware or that software for making time lapse in 4k. The rx100 iv is my top pick to buy to next month.

      I'm also about to buy a Mk IV - but have question: Can the RX100 Mk IV record 4K jpg's with good resolution when time lapsing ? I mean: Using Sony Vegas Pro for editing then a row of 4 K JPG's from the camera would be just perfect for some extra playing around with pan/crop in the 4 K Jpg's down to normal full HD.

      +Einar Ritsmer i have been doing the video (.avi) output which has given me some very nice images.. I will test the photo output mode to see the size and quality and report back!!! Give me a week or so...

    During a timelapse is there a way to review a photo just to check if everything is ok?

    • @CTLOnTheLine
      @CTLOnTheLine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      after each picture is taken, it is displayed on the screen for two seconds before the next picture is taken. The screen is automatically dimmed to save battery so you can get an idea of what is being taken.

    Unless there's something I am missing, you CANNOT change camera settings once the time lapse app starts capturing. I have just tested this again on the A7Sii and A7Rii, try for yourself. Yes, I have been testing this with the camera(s) in Manual mode. Yes, I have been testing with the Custom theme in the time lapse app. While the time lapse is capturing you CANNOT make changes to the camera's settings (ie: shutter, aperture, ISO) which is total bullshit. I have tried changing all kinds of settings withing the app and nothing changes this ridiculous shortcoming. I hope I am wrong but I doubt I am. If you find that I am indeed mistaken, PLEASE tell me exactly what I need to do to have full control. I am not a newb! I have been shooting photography and time lapse professionally for over five years now. The only thing new to me here is these small Sony cameras and all the stupid problems associated with them, thus far. In my experience, making manual adjustments to the settings, during capture, and then compensating for this in LRTimelapse is the ONLY reliable way to capture day to night (holy grail) sequences. Every single bulb ramping or "app" that makes decisions/adjustments seems to create more problems then it solves. It can't be trusted to do the job. Also, the fact that this app doesn't allow wireless tethering to a mobile device is plain stupid. These cameras have wifi, WTF Sony :(

    You could level it up and tried to download that timelapse app in country not supported by SONY :D. You would aditionaly needed to fool playmemories that you re in sony supported countries.

    This sony app rip off starts to get realy entertaining when someone finally after all hesitation decides to buy it, no matter how stupid it is for all the reasons you mentioned, but discovers that it is not possible! It is not possible because there is no online store support in his country. If this is not idiotic and arogant "bussines model", I don' t know what it is. Anyway, nice and informative video.

    The problem is with this, and I agree, I am still angry about this Sony dumb method of "using their product in full", is the fact, that if one tries to connect to their store from third-world-country (saying that, I mean not from US, Canada, EU, Japan and few lucky ones) Sony, by some reason, refuses to accept payment from my Bank Account. I called their support hundred of times, and this jerks are telling me how sorry they are, but there is no way to register my card, and I have to create bank account in the US, or such countries.... Why Sony, dont you tell this BEFORE you sell your cameras? Uhhhhhhhh...... ((((((
