    Thanks for the video! Cleared up some confusion. I just picked one up for a lighter weight video camera and the menu and settings from the factory were very confusing. Quite the change from nikon.
    Thanks!

    I wish all instructional videos were like this. Still learning this camera. It is loaded! I have the model 5 but could follow along okay. Seems the 5 has MORE selections so I had to jump around a little. Looking forward to the more in depth video (couldn't find it)
    AUDIO..I see what you did with your mics..covering them up. What did you use and how well do they work?

    Very helpful. I recently made a 4K video on my channel. A lot of people don't like working with 4K because of the file sizes and some computers just can't cope with editing them. I had no problem. The 4K quality is so noticeably superior, that I find for outdoor recording a better investment. Do you ever record in 4K. Also, what material did you use to cover the speakers? and did you cover the actual hole or just beside it?

    Hey Grant, thanks for sharing this detailed video. Since I am a beginner and would be travelling a lot, I plan to get a single cam that does both video and photo and might go with this instead of Canon G7x M2. Between these 2 cams, can you please let me know which takes a better picture?
    Secondly, can you take a picture in between recording a video on this cam?

    Thanks for this review, very informative. Can you suggest how to reduce video noise that I have with RX100 V when shooting indoors with bad lighting... with slog2 the minimal ISO is 1600 and there are a lot of noise especially on black areas. On all youtube reviews everyone says this is a great camera for low light and there are a lot of low light tests that are really great. My RX100V shoots really bad in low light... I tried all settings, really don't know what's the problem. Any ideas?

    Thank you so much for this very informative video. I have had my RX100v for quite some time now but it was mostly used on stills thus far. I'm trying to learn how to shoot videos now and make the most of this featured packed camera. So your video is invaluable in helping me kick start my new learning.
    Q1 : As I was following and copying your settings, I find the camera becomes quite hot. Is this normal?
    Q2: Your setting is on movie mode, but the 100V has an HFR mode - what is the difference.
    Q3: When doing normal shooting in movie mode, is it correct that if I want to trigger the slow mo, I should hit the movie button a second time? wouldn't that turn off the shooting?
    Thanking you in advance.

    Hi, Grant, thanks for the detailed explanation. Wanted to ask, for RX100 mark V, are you able to customize the shutter speed for video? For instance, shooting 1080p 23fps with shutter speed specifically as 1/50s. (I assume shutter speed can be passively lower by using ND filter, but that’s not the customization I need) Thank you.

    Do you use the 180 degree shutter speed rule for your shutter speed. So if your shooting at 30fps, do you use 1/60th of a second? And does this camera follow the 180 rule when it has to auto pick a shutter speed?

    I am toying with the idea of getting one of these as a compact 'every day carry' (against my DSLR) for video and also as an emergency back-up for my kit (should something disastrous happen with my DSLR). Do you think that this seems a sensible choice? What kind of 'shallow focus' control do you have with this camera (is there full manual aperture control)? Cheers!

    Thanks for going into such detail. Been thinking about purchasing the RX100 mark iv for slow motion video as a second camera for my 70d. In terms of 1080p at 120fps, how does the Sony compare to the GoPro Hero4 Black? Thanks.

    Thanks for the awesome video. I have one irritating problem which I don't know how to change; I constantly end up changing my shutter speed or aperture settings by accidentally touching the control wheel. I thought "wheel lock" would take care of this but, doesn't. Is there a way to change this? Thanks again for all your awesome videos! 😊👍

    I’m have. Sony rx100 V1. I need to make a 20 minute video BUT I’ve noticed that at 4K setting it will stop recording because of heat issues. What setting should I use?

  • @urbanrunoff
    @urbanrunoff 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    First off, awesome video. I scored a used rx100iv and been playing with it for a couple of days now.
    I’m struggling with focus in video mode. I Don’t like using continuous auto focus but the only other viable option seems to be manual focus. Which i find a bit tricky even with peaking (the front wheel focus throw is too short and unreliable). Is there a way to get auto focus lock and then transition into manual during shooting? This is how i shoot on pro cameras and is my preferred run and gun setup.

    • @GrantJohnstonVideos
      @GrantJohnstonVideos  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +urbanrunoff Yes its pretty tricky with these smaller form cameras. The way I have found best for me is to assign the manual focus to a button and I then toggle the camera between autofocus and manual. I let autofocus find its mark and then toggle into manual focus to lock it. Cheers

      If you're trying to focus on faces (particularly if you have a recurring face), using face detect (possibly with a registered face) on AF-C can be very helpful too particularly when capturing vlog style video.

    Not gonna lie it's great information. But I find it an overwhelming amount of things to do to prepare video. And that maybe for just a short clip. Then all these settings maybhavento change for another shot. I mean what your saying is great, it's just demotivating in my mind, the amount of things to remember.

    What could be a reason to shoot in NTSC if you shoot video for modern monitors, televisions or internet streaming?In NTSC you get less colorspace, a lower framerate for high speed shooting and less color accuracy. Thats the reason people call NTSC Never The Same Color.
    I can go with all your setting except for the NTSC part.

    • @GrantJohnstonVideos
      @GrantJohnstonVideos  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Dragtstra Ha I hear you. It doesn't really make a lot of difference these days. However the main reasons I recommended NTSC in this video is that most viewers on this channel appear to be from NTSC countries and the 24p option if you want it is only available under the NTSC settings on the camera. The Canon G7X I have only shoots in NTSC. Where you have to consider it is when shooting with 2 or more cameras that you have them all setup under the same system otherwise you will get problems when you come to edit. I just about always shoot in Pal. Cheers
