  • Easy and inexpensive solution to refurbish and fix your Jeeps NSS. This video applies to XJ and TJ models. Common indicators of a bad NSS are reverse lights not working, no crank/no start, needing to jiggle the shifter to have the vehicle start, vehicle will only start in neutral and not park. If you have any of these symptoms your jeep may have a bad NSS. Comment below with any questions!

    Great video! One of the best I've seen on NSS rebuild. Wish you would have mentioned that the NSS could be a cause of no back up lights.

      I forgot to mention it in the video, but it’s listed in the description!

    Great video! For the cost of direct replacement other that risking Amazon cheap one this it absolutely the way to go! Just picked up a 91’ with a no crank hoping it’s not the ecu and NSS is the culprit! Thanks for detailed video! Nice rig!

    Did u have to put it on Neutral before removing that NSS?

    • @machinesinc
      @machinesinc  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No, it should slide off in any gear I believe

  • @thisguygraphicsguy6194
    @thisguygraphicsguy6194 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is there a trick to sliding it off? Mine is a bit stuck on there.

    • @machinesinc
      @machinesinc  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mine came off very easy, if it’s rusty maybe a little PB blaster?

    Would this work on a TJ wrangler? it has an issue with rough shifting, 1st to 2nd, and if you unplug it for the night it fixes it temporarily. I have done some digging and everyone else with the same problem says it IS NOT the PCM, but possibly the "transmission range sensor" which ive been told is the same thing as a neutral safety switch?????

    • @machinesinc
      @machinesinc  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’ll be honest, I’m not sure what is causing your issue. The NSS is simply letting your vehicle know what gear you have selected, so this should not affect the shifting performance of the transmission itself. But also keep in mind that XJs have different transmissions than TJs

    I have the same problem with wk 2005 grand cherokee 3.7 my Question if u respond is how did u diagnose problem ?
    i heard u say its been diagnosed as the problem like to know how u got to that explanation 🤔 ⁹

    • @machinesinc
      @machinesinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most direct way to diagnose this would be disconnecting the NSS electrical connector and testing using a multimeter for continuity across the corresponding pins while shifting into each gear. But most importantly when In park or neutral. You will need to find the wiring diagram for your car.
      In XJs common symptoms of a bad NSS are the vehicle starting in neutral but not in park. Reverse lights not turning on when in reverse.

    Wish you would have actually shown how much effort to remove and then re-install.

      @machinesinc  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately it’s just hard to hold a camera while you are doing it. But like I said it’s only the one bolt, loosen the nut, and unplug the connector. Took me less than 5 minutes.

    Hello so I have a 95 Cherokee xj with a crank no start issue. I’ve replaced all the sensors, coil, cap, and all the relays but still no fuel and no start. Could a bad NSS cause no fuel no spark ? I’m leaning towards a bad ecu but not sure.

    • @machinesinc
      @machinesinc  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have no fuel that’s your issue. Check your fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel lines. If all those are fine check your fuel pump wiring and fuse. If that’s fine you may be looking at ECU issues but doubtful.

      @@machinesinc it was a bad ecu I replaced the ecu last weekend and it fired right up

    Hello! I couldn't put shifter to P at a traffic light and turned off the ignition in D. Then I put the selector into P (car turned off) and nothing happened. I moved the selector many times over an hour, removed the battery, but nothing happened. Tomorrow I plan to remove the NSS and rebuild it with clean all aroud, using your video, thanks for thet! BUT what else could go wrong if after my self-oberhaul nothing works? Maybe shifter lock cable broke?

    • @machinesinc
      @machinesinc  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The NSS may just not be adjusted correctly or loose
