You are such a sweetie, but please stop repeating everything 5-10 times, most of us do not have the time to spend 40 minutes watching one video and if we need something repeated, or we forget something we can always stop the video and rewind. Thank you for all the great tips on making bone broth. I just got an instant pot for Christmas and I am looking forward to using your methods.

Bizzy Bee lol I was literally about to type this. You do seem like the best auntie anyone could wish for with the sweetest and biggest heart. But it is a really long winded video...even watching on 2x speed. The tips above would really help remedy this because you do have some amazing lessons to provide. But the redundancy and length of the video can deter folks away and I’d hate for that to be the case. God bless you!

Others have said repeatedly that pressure cooker is only... % faster at cooking. Some said 30% faster cooking... so to cook it equally you still need about 16 hours under pressure to equal 24 of slow cooking or something like that. My cooker has low or high pressure and temperature... so I wonder how that equates... I s'pose I need to check out the manual for it to see how it would cook out under those conditions. 180 degree and equivalent of 24 hours...

Her videos are way over-produced to be a genuine youtube video. Too professional, Nice intro music with voice over, cut to fancy personalized logo, perfect lighting and sound quality. Its a fucking commercial. Where did "Mary learn to be a professional video producer?" Oh, thats my husband behind the camera, and my son is a professional graphics artist and software developer. Oh nonsense. This fake Instant Pot commercials are littered all over, in contrast to real home videos. Total advert propaganda. The marketing people, figured the ignorant customers need lessons or they will return the damn pot. Well, Im returning mine. If this product was so wonderful, then genuine videos would be available instead of fake "grassroots" users who make professional videos all in their spare time...smh. pathetic.

Mary, I just did this in my smaller InstaPot (6 qrt), I did not have any high cartlidge bones.. but your TIP on the water level is the SECRET! I got 2 full quarts of the most delicous bone broth.. I have ever tasted. My broth GELED BEAUTIFULLY! I had been buying a fairly exspensive organic bone broth which is pretty tasty, ( and exspensive) but never any of that great gelatinous part. Now.. I'll be making my own Bone Broth.. moving forward It's the best I've ever tasted. Thanks for a great video!

I've been making bone broth for a few years now, but love your videos....thank you. I put tumeric and ginger in my bone broth for the inflamation benefits...and when I make beef bone broth I roast all the bones first in the oven with a bit of olive oil....I also bought the basket which fits inside my 8 quart instant pot and all I have to do is pull the basket out, and strain the broth, makes it so much easier and faster....so ya'll might want to invest in a basket.

I've now made 3 full batches of this and all 3 batches have geled beautiful. I havent used "high carglidge bones yet, as I havent found any. I think the real key is the fluid level: Just enough to just barely cover the veggies, and not to overfill the pot.. Dont go above the 2/3 mark in the pot. THIS STUFF IS THE BOMB! I did buy the flour sac cloths..they worked beautifully! I did buy the "fat seperator" which did a pretty good job at seperating the fat.

We got our 1/4 beef delivery this morning and I got a several bags of Bones and a bag of suet yippee! So I will be making beef bone broth today and pressure can it tomorrow. Fyi I regularly push the fill limit of the instant pot ( say within 2 inches of the top) and unless I have tiny bits in my recipe ( looking at you celery leaves) I have no issues.

my grandmother used to make a soup with soup bones in the pressure cooker. the old style pressure cooker, which would boil the stuff. She only put the soup bones (which were dirt cheap or free back in the 1960's to before she passed away in the 1980's) in with the water for however long she left them to "cook". Then she would add her veggies , leaving the bones in too, and cook it all without pressure for an hour or so. it always gelled, even though the old pressure cookers cooked it at such high temps. i too make that soup and it still always gels! now you're making me think it's time to make some. thanks for the memory and your tips!

Did you know you can use the Instant Pot like a crock pot? On the slow cook setting, you can set the temp at 180-190 on low 190-200 on medium and 200-210 on high. It won't be under pressure, but if you want to use that ideal temp, and are willing to cook it for 12-20 hours, you can do that.

God Bless you Mary! I know Jesus must be in your life as you have such joy in sharing your amazing knowledge, your love of your craft just shines, your patience and kindness is up front like nobody else I’ve watched And……you answer EVERY question I could’ve possibly asked and more!😂……what a lucky duck your husband is, I hope he doesn’t take you for granted! I’m just over 1 month into Ketovore lifestyle and am so excited to do this. Though ox tails are expensive, I can count them at least half price because I’m sure I’ll get at least 2 pots of the broth, that’s new to me-thank you. I also love smoked ham hocks, put them in the ‘pot’ for 1 1/2 hrs on high and they are wonderful, gelatinous and sticky, salty, great with mustard. There is a gelatin on bottom of pan, how and where can I use that? Blessings to you my friend.

I was watching this video as I was making my first batch of beef bone broth in my Instant Pot - fortunately, the broth was just warming up when I heard the tip to use low pressure and not high. I was able to cancel, reset the IP to Soup/Broth using low pressure @ 2 hrs. My bone broth is cooking now. Hopefully it comes out with as much gel as Mary's. Great video. BTW, Yea, I know I must be a pretty boring guy for making bone broth on a Saturday night. That's ok - I had several decades of parties and such. I like the quiet domestic life - and tomorrow, I am going to have some excellent bone broth!

Thank you so much for this detailed video. I've made broth before, but I've just bought my first Instant Pot and wasn't sure if I needed to change anything to my way of cooking. I wouldn't have known about the temperature changes, if I hadn't watched it. You saved me for lot of worry of why it didn't turn out right. I was also taught to use the three kinds of bones when I was a child, but never knew the science behind it.

I made bone broth in my Instant Pot using the "Slow Cook" setting. When set on "Less" the temperature is 180-190 F. I purchased the optional glass lid. It is easier to wash and it is nice to see how things are going. Since this setting is not using pressure you aren't restricted by the 2/3 line but can fill it up like a regular slow cooker. Thanks for the coaching.

Hi Mary!!! I made this broth yesterday and followed all your steps to the T. I just opened my jar and my, oh my, this looks literally like Jello! So I just heat it up, put a little sea salt on it and I am ready to give some goodness to my gut :) ps btw instead of the flour/cheesecloth I used a very very fine (I mean fine!) strainer and it picked up all the "debris" perfectly, other than that, I did everything exactly and if I was able to do it with that kind of gelatin, so thick, anyone can do this. Thank you, Mrs. Mary!

I don't like using vinegar, so using wine instead is a great substitute for me. My IP has a slow cook setting (it's a 7-cup Ultra) so I'm using that instead for 12-16 hours. Thanks again!

I have been watching you on my television. When you watch on tv you cannot subscribe or comment or join, all you can do is watch. So, I watch a lot of things on You Tube. I watch many people and the one thing was I found one guy who compared instant pot slow cooker and on stove bone broth. He found that the slow cooker made a better broth. But the instant pot was quicker and not bad. I was thinking and by the way you are the best one and the most informative of all the people. Well anyway I am making bone broth now. I pressure cooked for 1hr and 45 min then I did it again with new veg. Now the second time I thought that maybe I should put it on slow cook for a few more hours. I think this might be pretty good. I think that maybe pressure cook for an hour and a half then switch to slow cook for a few more hours. With all this if you started in the morning then you still could be done early with no overnight. Thats all I have, just wondering what you think of that.

You have such a soothing voice which is very nice to listen to. Your explanation is beyond excellent too. You’re very thorough and you don’t rush at all which is very helpful to beginners. I have a question: What do think is the best Ratio of bones:veg:water? Thank you and God bless🙏

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you so much for the kind words. There really isn’t a perfect ratio. The more veggies you add, the more minerals you will have in your bone broth since the bones primarily provide protein. Growing up meat bones were often used in cooking, but I was not familiar with bone broth.
In 2000 I moved to Seoul, Korea. Restaurants are usually specialized for just a few meal types. One had a huge pot outside the front. It was about 4ftx4ft in size and a chef often came out to stir and remove the scum from a pot of heated liquid. It was bone broth.
They served bone soup. It is creamy white and with no fat. They served this with sea salt, black pepper and chopped green onion. Frequently rice dumplings were included. The meal included side dishes of rice and kimchi. It was delicious.
The local propaganda was that this treated arthritis and bone related and joint issues.

The tallow is excellent for a number of things.
Use some instead of cooking oil when you fry something in a pan. Food cooks and tastes great and it keeps the pan seasoned.
It's the best product to season your cast iron, period. It doesn't take a lot and after a few coats (better to do two or three light coats than one heavy coat when seasoning cast iron) the bottom of the cast pan, Dutch oven, etc. gets slick as a skating rink because of the polymers, extreeemly non-stick and just wipes clean. It also won't go rancid, even if it sits for a long time.
The reason McDonald's fries were so addicting in the "good old days" was because they were sprayed with a light coat of beef tallow, the flavor is amazing. I do it at home. The vegans put the kaibash on that. ;)
The tallow is much healthier and easier to digest than cooking oils and it takes less.
It makes a great candle if the lights go out! Just poke a hole in some solidified tallow, insert a wick (or string dipped in tallow and cooled works great) and light.
In a pinch, tallow will work to waterproof leather and keep it supple if you dont have leather conditioner.

Mary's Nest Thank you Mary, you are very kind! I found your channel from watching Dr Berg’s take on bone broth, and love it and subscribed. I have tried over the years, making everything you cover in your videos. I learned some things from this video, and I thank you. I’ve come to understand the importance of nose to tail eating, how it balances the aminos glycine and methionine, to prevent excess mtor and igf production for longevity. I plan to make bone broth regularly, now that I can make it in a pressure cooker, instead of a 48 hour affair

@@philpecoraro3687 - Hi Phil, Thank you for the kind words...and I am SO happy to "meet" another person on this traditional foods journey!! Also, I wanted to let you know that Sally Fallon (Nourishing Traditions) now recommends that if you make beef bone broth in the slow cooker or on the stove top - you only have to simmer it for 12 hours! Good news. But yes, the Instant Pot is still faster! I wanted to let you know that when I do use the slow cooker or stove top, I save the bones and make a second batch. You make have already looked through these but I have an extensive playlist on making bone broth with various videos on tips and tricks to success. I have reused my bones (beef) up to four times and the best gelatin was round two. I don't pick the meat off either.; it goes in again as well. I certainly don't roast those meat bones again, but would you re-soak the unroasted marrow bones in acidulated water with each re-use? I am using an Instant Pot.

A local store used to carry the full neck bone until 2011 when Nash Finch bought them out. I so miss making beef neck soup, will check this meat website now. Very similar to this but cooked on stove in an 8qt pot, bring to boil and then medium/low for 5 hours. so yummy.

I just bought an Instapot. I guess if I just use the 'slow cooker' function instead - although it will take longer, I won't have to worry about the temperature and just press the slow cooker button? And for the 'slow cooker' - do I still put it on 'seal' rather than 'vent' when cooking? thanks!

Just wondering when reusing bones for another batch of bone broth, do you roast them again a 2nd time, or do you skip that step for batch #2? Thank you !

Great question! Consommé is a highly clarified rich broth where every last bit of impurities are removed. It’s usually made by chefs who want a perfectly clear broth. It is often called a “clarified” broth. Hope this helps. So glad you’re here!! Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️

Dear Mary, One thing that was rationed was sugar. Now obviously we can't grow sugar cane but we can grow Stevia plants. We have to do Stevia leaves in vodka or something. Do you cover this? I just feel that we are reliving WWII only in color.
