    This is lke a breath of fresh air to those, me included, who were let down by the lack of information from Korg - or anywhere else explained in such a logical, distinct manner.
    Thank you for uploading this.

      Same thing for Microkorg. I downloaded the manual few years ago, and was glad to see the amount of information inside. You even have some synthesis lessons on it lol ! And indeed, the electribe 2 is such a crap. It lacks many important information and you have to search on forums and stuff... Not really cool.

    3 years after you made this video, I just randomly saw a link to it on TH-cam. I was previously of the thought that these grooveboxes were garbage in comparison to the previous Electribes. You have just shown me that the similarities are greater than the differences. I recall being very turned off when they were released because of a lack of song mode, but after seeing this, I'm kinda hoping I can find one used or something.

    I'm a newbie thinking of getting a groovebox and tending to the Electribe due to its flexibility, and I now finally have a feeling what it actually can do. Also, I saw some people complaining about the envelopes always resetting which really was a big disadvantage, but thanks to your video I now know it's just the Poly/Mono setting. So this one was a big step towards a positive decision for the Electribe -- should be featured on Korg's homepage :D Thanks a TON!

    This, and all your other videos I've watched, has proved *extremely* helpful to me - thanks!! 🙂
    One Q for all y'all Electribe users - is it a constant race to make your changes before the display goes back to "Init Pattern" (or whatever you pattern's name is)? I find it extremely distracting. Yes I can go into the menus and make changes there, but what if, say, I'm on a sound and I want to change the filters (ore FX send or pretty much anything!) by, you know, twisting some knobs? My changes are made, but the display keeps jumping back to the pattern name.... the manual doesn't mention this at all 😕

    Wow. Awesome. Would love a follow-up where you create a few sounds and give some sense of HOW to use these different parameters. I fiddle and fiddle and create sounds that sound like crap where other people seem to coax such cool colors from this machine.

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +big eastern syndicate Thanks very much - I have a video planned that will address some of those things, but meanwhile you can check out just general tutorials about synth sound design because the way that the Electribe generates sounds is very similar to other Subtractive Synths - i.e. oscillator -> filter, envelopes & LFOs -> effects - it's been that way since the Minimoog in the 70's. If you have a PC load up a simple synth VST with patches and have a look how the patches you like are configured. Hope this helps, and stay tuned

    Hi, I have the Sampler version and have found over the years that even though I try other grooveboxes I always come back to it and learn something new. I am considering buying the 'Synth' version now as I really like the sound design part of the machine better than the sampling side. Now I have always wanted to know what is the technical differences between the UNI, OCT, VPM, SYN etc versions of the oscillators?

    Great Electribe videos!
    Doesn't seem you have one on midi syncing, which is something missing from TH-cam. There's a great one on the ESX/EMX (by LousyFacelift - it seems TH-cam has removed the ability to paste links here or I'd share it), but not one for the E2. I have an E2 (not sampler) and an ESX, and can't figure out how to use the E2 as a master for only tempo, and maybe start/stop (don't send other midi info), but I can only get them both to play the E2! The answer isn't on YT yet, so there's space for it.
    (I can use the ESX as master because of that tutorial by LousyFacelift, but can't use the E2 as master)

    Great video and tutorial! I don't own the sampler but can you get around the lack of a sustain control (with the Amp/EG turned on) by setting a sample loop section within the sample? Would this cause the sound to "sustain" in the sample loop while the pad is held on and then fade out with the Decay/Release amount when the pad is released?

  • @DanTheMiddleagedMan

    great video! could you do one on the insert fx? would like to know how they impact the sound in detail

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Soto thanks. I have a few more videos planned with stuff that I think is cool or non obvious but the Insert FX is not one of them? What in particular are you referring to that's hard to understand about them?

    • @DanTheMiddleagedMan
      @DanTheMiddleagedMan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they arent really hard to understand, but i would like to see more detail about what they do.
      stuff like what does the ring modulator/decimator/ring delay/phaser/etc. do to the wavefrom/spectrum would interest me. sorry if that doesnt fit in the style of this series

    thanks man, great explanation... really great chart & explanation/overview of the mod types also...super helpful to understand more about the unit...also appreciated the info on the EG int & it's connection to the A/R knobs ...didn't realize those interacted, esp w/o the EG light on. awesome tips!
    i have the grey one...so powerful...do you have both or just the sampler? have been wondering about a hardware sampler, but also not sure if i want 2 e2s or would swap mine out for the sampler... do you find yourself wishing for more oscillators on the sampler or is the stock amount provided sufficient? Cheers!

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @stonefromthesky

    This is good and comprehensive video. Thanks for making and sharing it.
    I would like to know your opinion on Circuit vs ES2 sound. Which one sounds better to you?

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's a matter of taste - check out different videos on youtube to compare. In my view the Circuit wins on ease of use and pad quality (and flexibility of synth controls if you're willing to learn the Isotonik editor), but the end result, IMHO, of the E2 sounds better. Maybe it's the number of tracks or variety of different effects you can apply to different tracks.

    Excellent video! How would you recommend creating a simple warm synth pwm pad sound?

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mauricio Ossa Thanks! To your question - that's a hard one, very individual I think... what I would recommend is find a sound patch you like in another hard or soft synth and recreate it in the Electribe. The Electribe synth has all the core building blocks of a great synth - there's nothing you can't do with it I think - especially if you check out my other video about layering 3 oscillators/lfos/fx

    thanks for the help
    and I have another question, sorry
    I have on my SD cart WAF and my data when I want a sound loaded from SD to Electrible. so the sound but I can use it when you save and turn off electrible and then turn on the mem pattern is no sound?
    thanks for the help :)
    sorry for my English !

    • @loopop
      @loopop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The answers are in the DATA UTILITY MENU. For question 1: INITIALIZE PATTERN in the Data utility menu; for 2: Yes, EXPORT ALL SAMPLES. It's not intuitive, I agree, I wish they did it differently. The Electribe saves pattern changes automatically when you turn it off, but not new samples.

I've got one of the demo patterns loaded and one of the triggers (pad 2) is a timesliced vocal sample. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how/where to access/sequence all but the first slice of that sample. What button/combo do I press to get all that sample's slices playable on the pads?

      Sliced samples are simply new samples in your samples list. You should watch my E2S tips and tricks video for more with slices - hope that helps

    Hi
    Do you know how to make a stutter effect on electribe 2 ?

      There are many ways.

    Wow. The manual for the electrictribe is horrendous. How many lfos can you have per part? Can you have a filter lfo and a pitch lfo at the same time?

    so my question is... do you actually use the Electribe 2 sampler often to make music which you are happy with?

      Trevor Llewellyn ever since I have the Maschine MK3 i prefer it for beat oriented music, especially the workflow - but before that, yes, very much so - there’s not much you can’t do with the E2S

    Just bought the ES2s and if find it a shame that I can't record an external instrument while a sequence is playing. For example, if I'm making a beat and I want to add an external piano/synth while the beat is playing, I can't record it, which I think is strange for a Music Production Station. What do you think? It doesn't even seem to be outputting any MIDI notes when recording a sample, so you can't even do something with that for recording syncronization. You are stuck with recording the sample and then inconveniently adjusting the starting point.

      I'm not familiar with samplers that do what you say, but maybe I don't know that much... I think maybe you're looking for a looper alongside the E2S. A DAW like Ableton can certainly do that, or an iPad/iPhone app. If you find a sampler that does that let me know ;)

      The Octatrack does! I know I can probably do it with the OP-1 in sync with the ES. But it would be really nice to be able to record something like a bass or guitar line while hearing the beat and/or metronome, wouldn't it?

      Pedro Devoto hey the channel's name has loop in it so hell yeah. Never used the octratrack, but have the OP-1 - yeah it's awesome

      Hey! Sorry to bother again. Do you know if it is possible to sync the OP-1 with the ES2 directly via USB? I mean by connecting one to the other, with a single USB cable. I thought that since they were class compliant, they would be able to talk to each other, but I haven't been successful so far. Do you know if I need something in between as a computer/laptop/midi interface?

      Pedro Devoto I never tried it but yes I think you need a USB midi host device or a computer
