    The Electribe 2 Sampler is, I believe an underrated machine. There is something compelling with the combination of reasonable price, build quality, great FX, portability, all those KNOBS, great sounding filters, ability to play samples chromatically in keyboard mode. The ability to run on batteries is home run stuff. If it had graphical waveform editing and 32 note polyphony (it has 24), it would be close to perfect. Oh yes, it would be handy to turn auto-quantising off, it can't be that hard, I had a Roland R8 from '89 that could do that!

    8:54 I’m used to think in Hex (Mirage) and multiples of 16 (0-127) because of… well, nerdyness. Once you think like that, is easy to get a grip of this specific technique you mention. If you sample a four bar loop, 0 will be the start of bar 1, bar 2 will start at 32, bar 3 at 64 and bar 4 at 96. So each beat will be have a lenght of 8. I’ve been sequencing the electribe with the Machinedrum, and it is amazing because I can control the ‘slice’, pitch/note and duration per step. Basically P-Locking the electribe (also with Hacktribe installed). It is an AMAZING machine, but I believe people hate it because it is not the same form factor as its lineage, people would love it if it would’ve been named Volca Sampler Pro.

    another tip is to turn off the audio in switch when using it as a production tool. even with the volume turned down with audio in switched on, you here a feint high pitch noise. as soon as you switch audio in off it disappears

    I think this is a great way, or perhaps even the best way, to use the Electribe Sampler. It really utilizes the strengths of the device's resampling ability and makes it into more of an instrument in its own right than a half-baked music production station. I'll admit that I've had a hard time convincing people of its usefulness, as opposed to a full DAW or other device. But I think that its workflow is unique and more worthy of a chance than people realize.

    Great video and tutorial! I don't own the sampler but can you get around the lack of a sustain control (with the Amp/EG turned on) by setting a sample loop section within the sample? Would this cause the sound to "sustain" in the sample loop while the pad is held on and then fade out with the Decay/Release amount when the pad is released? Any advice much appreciated.

    Hey loopop!! Do you know if I can assign the midi note for each sample? I ask this because I'm thinking of buying an electribe sampler and I would like to control it with my behringer rd8 (for drums), which, as far as I know, can't change the notes its sequencer sends for each drum part.

    After all this time I finally inally got an Electribe2 Synth (by mistake) which I right away installed Hacktibe on it.
    I really enjoy the machine, the only few things I would like to see is samples loading preview and some sort lf loop sections of patterns,for example if you have a sequence from 1 to 4 and want to loop knly 1to2 or just 2 etc.

    Hi, I am a guitar player wanting a device that basically functions like a drum machine but one which I can use my own samples and
    trigger the patters I make live from a MIDI pedalboard. I don’t want to use a DAW on a computer. I’ve done fair bit of research and a Roland SP-404SX or this looks like it will be the best thing for that purpose at the lowest price point. I’m just not sure about changeable time signatures. I would appreciate your suggestion if you have any.

    A very fluent and engaging tutorial. This unit is on my shopping list but, I think I'm going to have to wait until it reaches the £300 price point. Great to have a piece of kit that can go such a long way to making a music track but does not need a computer to function. Contrary to that, the Maschine MK3 is ahead of the Electribe on my 'next purchase' list. Thanks for the info

      I have FLSTUDIO Producer 12.x, Novation LaunchPad Pro, Ableton Live 9 Lite.
      I'm looking at getting a little bit more out of the DAW.
      The thing that attracts me to the Electribe 2 is fairly on the fly improv like Ableton Sessions with LaunchPad, all in one box, and still being about to drop Samples, import, and Re-sample, and Export from Electribe 2 as .als files back down into Ableton.

    • @davidrobot7818
      @davidrobot7818 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      iv'e seen Electribe 2 on Ebay for sub £300. But they are from Japanese retailers. I'm cautious about purchasing one in case it's a fake. Have you considered this route?
      What do you think about the launchpad. Are you happy with the purchase/device?

    • @resofactor
      @resofactor 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LaunchPad rocks. Works perfect with Ableton Live 9 Lite that I use at the moment. It's a fun controller and a great way to get off your standard synth keys interface. Biggest issues it still binds me to a laptop.
      With the Electribe2 Sampler and Synth both, I'd pretty much have an Ableton Session with two 16 Parts or 32 Tracks and 500 ish Patterns. I really want them both.

    I am wondering if there is a way to make a sample play back only when the keys are held down? I recorded some chords from another synth which sound great apart from the fact that the whole sample plays each time I hit a pad. I wish to control the length of each note as I would with an oscillator patch so as to create a chord progression with a mix of short and long notes rather than having the chord ring out for 1-2 bars depending on pitch. Using the envelope doesn't seem to work, that just makes the sound shorter regardless of whether I hold pad down or not. Maybe I will have to manually automate end point for each step?

Should I set the ES2 at 120bpm in order to match the bpm of that loop and than slice the loop correctly, or I could just leave the pattern at 115bpm and try to find the right setting with the threshold parameter? Thank you =)

    Great video. But is there a software that automatically sets looping points on wav samples and can it do it in batch (ex: set the looping point for a 1000 wav files folder at once)?
    So far I've used FL studio's Directwave to sample vst synths C notes. It can auto set looping points.
    However, when I speed up the files by 2 or 3 times with audio sofware like Audacity or Goldwave to make them fit in the electribe2 sampler I lose the looping points. Does anyone here have a solution for that? Thank you.

      It should just work - if you put the sample on say part 2, you can just send midi notes on channel 2 from your midi keyboard. It will also transpose, see: www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/8run47/keyscales_for_sample_parts_on_electribe_2_sampler/

    What does everyone want from Electribe 3?
    upgraded display and waveform editing, multi effects per part, time stretch, more sample memory

    • @lundsweden
      @lundsweden 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, match the Roland SP404 MK2 specs, 32 note polyphony, waveform editing (yes!), timestrech would be cool as you say, is multi FX per part too much to hope for?! I agree too, sample memory is a bit silly at the moment (24MB, lol). I would add the ability to turn quantise off, stack multiple samples on one pad, be able to trigger a stereo sample from one pad (currently it is stupid, taking up two pads). Having said that, I think the size of the screen is ok, but should be a high rez OLED one. The other thing is the shortcuts should be printed under each pad!

      A working electribe 2. Nothing really wrong with the E2, it just feels like a beta unit missing final touches we expect in a modern product. Korg totally stopped development on the E2 which tells us they are done with the E2. It's never gonna be fixed and they don't want us to fix it.

    • @radddch3293
      @radddch3293 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mute on the electribe functions as either a solo or mute. There is one sound allocated per pad. You can mute or solo multiple pads at the one time.
      But there aren't mute groups quite like on the MPC. You can 'choke' a pad with another but you can't do this for multiple assigned sounds or pads as you can with a mute group on an MPC.

    loopop How do you get a sample to cut off when you trigger another sample? This was a simple task in almost every other sampler I've had. Basically, how do you use the gate function?

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony B. I’m not sure you need gate - rather choke - which is enabled by default or the menus for parts 13 and 14, and 15 and 16. Let me know if that does the trick for you

    • @anthonyb.2983
      @anthonyb.2983 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      loopop I saw that in the menu, and I am pretty sure I know what you mean. Does that mean I can only do this with 4 samples, and from what it sounds like, just 2 samples each cut off each other? I like to do sample chops, and have these chops cut off when another is played, which was easy to do in the prior versions of the Electribes. This really throws off my flow of work. Even in Electribe emulators, they include a function that allows you to set your samples to a midi group. I really don't want to hook it up to Ableton except for tracking, because my whole point of buying hardware is to spend less time looking at a screen. I've never had this issue, and I've owned alot of hardware samplers. If I needed to have 8 sample chops that canceled out the next sample pressed, it was done in a blink. Automation or creating a copy of the samples and shortening them, which would be a pain, and throw me out of interest of messing with a track.
      Thank you very much for your help, but I have 7 days to decide if this new Electribe will do what I want and work within my workflow, and hope I can find the solution so that I don't have to get my money back. I feel like I'm missing something. I can't believe Korg would miss this The instructions don't give you much in the way of instruction.
      And they did away with the Accent feature once they had velocity sensitive pads??? And is there only 1 bank of 16 samples? I miss the good old days of being able to try gear out at the store to see if what you are buying works for you. :(

    • @anthonyb.2983
      @anthonyb.2983 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      loopop Basically what I was trying to say was when I press a pad of my 16 samples, when I release that pad, I want that sample to stop playing. This works in keyboard mode, but it is using just the one sample. Us old school producers who like to sample vinyl and sample chop and such, this function does not work for us in a simple workflow. We would have to use the gate knob and record the automation of gating that sample instead of simply releasing that pad or key, and pressing the next pad or key. The new Electribe Sampler is like 16 pads of one shots, which none of it's predecessors were unless you set them to one shot. I can understand removing the accent function because of the velocity sensitive pads, even though I think building a better Electribe would have included both options, but the pad release makes no sense without an option to cutoff samples, except 13 &14, and 15 & 16.
      Do you get what I mean? I am down to my last day or two, and if I cannot resolve this, I have to return it and get the MPC Touch, which costs more, not counting the shipping money I lose. The Ableton Live Lite that comes with it does this, but the Electribe doesn't map well on it, and defeats the purpose of sampling through your inputs, and making it a true stand-alone sampling workstation. I do not get how Korg missed such a simple and very crucial and often used feature in almost all samplers before it, including their own Electribe series.
      Am I missing something, or is this no-brainer common function truly not there??? I keep praying for a last minute reply that shows me I am wrong and missed the setting, but I don't see it happening.
      WTF Korg???

    • @ALTARBEATZ
      @ALTARBEATZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ther only way to do this is to the sample in loop mode. It stops then when you let the pad go. I hope Korg will put in a gate with a next softwear update.

    • @anthonyb.2983
      @anthonyb.2983 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ALTAR Ex Vandals Unfortunately, I ran out of time and returned it. I even emailed Korg with no response. To me, it's like they care more about their Volca series more than the Electribe series, and that''s a major disappointment considering how much people loved the Electribes.
      I passed on the Elektron Digitrak to get the Electribe, and at the time the Digitrak was going for around $579, but they raised that to $729 by time my return processed completed due to a very slow return process. I believe that is because the Digitrak sounds so damn gritty in a great way that now I regret my original decision. It may not have MPC style pads like the Electribe, but the tiny pads/buttons do have gate, and I could have got a lower price MPD controller to take care of that issue (and velocity).
      Now, I guess I'm going to go the MPC Touch route, since the Electribe getting the gate function is seeming less likely every day that passes, and the SP404's don't have midi out. I miss the good old days of being able to test gear out at the store. Now Guitar Center and Sam Ash carry very little in-stock hardware or demo machines. Ugh. The future kinda sucks. Haha!
      Thank you though.

    Apologies for the dumb question I'm about to ask but I've read the ES2 manual multiple times and can't find the answer. Q: How do I play/arrange sliced samples? I've got one of the demo patterns loaded and one of the triggers (pad 2) is a timesliced vocal sample. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how/where to access/sequence all but the first slice of that sample. What button/combo do I press to get all that sample's slices playable on the pads?

    • @elhombredelisboa
      @elhombredelisboa 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a bit tricky. Time-slice is very rigid. For using the slices in the same track you can only set steps on/off, but not reorder or trigger them in different places. Still can be handy for simple loops/prhases you want to match exactly with your pattern
      If you want to play your chops in MPC style, you must assing each slice to a different part.
      Finally, you can simulate free time slicing with the OSC Edit motion trick mentioned in this video
      Anyway, don't forget that resampling is your friend ;)

      +elhombredelisboa Many thanks for this very full and helpful explanation. It was exactly the information I was after and exactly the information Korg fudged in all Electribe Sampler2 promos and tutorials. I feel If I had known this, I probably wouldn't have gotten one - that said, the ES2 is still a pretty nifty machine that does some very interesting stuff and it's a lot easier to get samples in/out of compared to the Volca Sample so I shall persevere. I guess making music from oneshots is more creative anyway. As an aside, can anybody reading this recommend a hardware sampler for under $/£500 that does proper sample chopping?

    • @elhombredelisboa
      @elhombredelisboa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dino Goldie, you're welcome.
      Old MPCs and Roland MV series are cheap nowadays. Roland MV has an incredible chopping implementation.
      But in the other hand, the complexity of those machines requires a lot of dedication...which I have not.
      I find the E2S very intuitive and easy to use once you get used to
      My advice is to keep on using it, and figuring out workarounds for the current limitations
      And, on the top of that, resampling resampling and more resampling. You can always get the results you're looking for by tricking the machine with resampling
