My opinion on this scene is that nobody here was wrong for anything they did everyone was in their respective rights to do exactly as they did. The feelings that were felt, the raw emotions that were shown on their faces, everything was as it should have been.
I just dunno about that--it's hard to forget that Jaune was an under-qualified, under-achiever that _lied_ to get into the position he assumed. (One of Ozpin's great mistakes.) Like Clint Eastwood says "A man's got to know his limitations." _Everything_ that's come down on Jaune ever since his intro is because he stepped face-first into it. One shouldn't complain of pain if one voluntarily shoves one's hand into a meat-grinder. Tl.dr. I got much less sympathy for Jaune than I do for Ruby.
@@dphalanx7465 Considering his reasons though I actually do sympathize with him because even though he knows it, he still moves forward despite losing people he deeply cares for. He’s never blamed anyone but himself (excluding this scene) and he knows it’s his fault. Jaune has done nothing but be the best leader he can, even knowing his limits, he’s surpassed them and kept moving forward which is why he became a leader. I feel like he’s a direct parallel from Raven in this sense. Raven is strong but cowardly and won’t run into danger without good reason, for her, that is and Jaune who you would think is a coward but despite that despite him being so weak he always runs headfirst into situations because he knows it’s the right thing to do. Even though time after time it’s giving him nothing but pain. I feel for Jaune I really do.
I don’t think she’s mad, she’s hurt and feeling it worse at that moment cuz he’s saying all the same things that dark part of yourself whispers in your mind. “It’s all your fault, this happened because of you, ect.
It almost reminds me of how they animated young cinder's face in some scenes-no i'm not trying to create a bridge between ruby and cinder there, its more just props to the animators-partly on how far the animation of rwby has come from the start but also how well they do emotions-so far this and last volume have been on point for that.
Jaune's performance was way better. Sorry but a teenage girl having an emotional tantrum does not hold the weight of a guy spending 30 years ALONE and having enough of hearing a kid whinge.
What i love about this scene is that Ruby was firing on all cylinders, but Jaune didnt hesitate to fire right back. One's mental wellbeing should never be overlooked. Trust me, I know.
@@ironicweeb4111 What canon, he took a low blow considering he has never actually done something compared to the rest of them and he threw shit back in the face of a girl who is several years his junior.

Kudos to Miles and Lindsay for absolutely knocking it out of the park with their voice acting. This breakdown has been a looong time coming, and it is as glorious as it is agonizing to watch.
Ruby had every right to lash out at Blake. When the cat asked them how they were going to beat Salem and Ruby almost was able to talk ab how she was feeling to Yang, Blake interrupted saying that they need to focus on getting THEM to normal size again, completely pushing Ruby aside. Then a few episodes later when the punderstorm happens and they are solving their "biggest problem", Blake and Yang are nowhere to be found. To Blake and Yang, Getting out of the ever after was not their top priority, nor was the wellbeing of their leader, it was their feelings for each other. I believe Ruby's little jolt of shock when she saw them kissing was less of her not realizing and more of being like "wow, I cant talk about how I am feeling bc we have to focus on getting out, but you two are allowed to sort out your feelings for each other." This problem that while not intentionally, was started by Blake came to a boiling point when they all once again dropped Ruby's feelings for something else, in the final case, Jaune. Ruby was never mad that they were together, she was mad that they were allowed to be the priority and she wasn't.
Jaune is as well, and he can't be blamed either. All he's been trying to do is do right for his friends and be there to protect them and have their backs. It's been terrible for the both of them.
@leon4000 well this wouldn't be like this if she hadn't killed Romen you know neo's man#He was the one who showed her kindness unlike her fucked up family
@@jaredelizardo201 Bruh it was life and death for her, if he didn't die Ruby would have. If someone is trying to off me I sure as hell would fight them to the death.
Jaune has unironically just proved Ruby’s point. Once again someone else problem overshadowed hers ! The reason she shuts Blake up is because she was going to cast Ruby’s feeling aside by repeating Ruby’s saying to “stay positive” and not talking about it.
To be fair Jaune literally just watched everything he had tried to protect for several years die in front of him, and she immediately mocked him for it. I’d be pissed too.
Imagine saying its overshadowing LOL someone doesnt realize that MULTIPLE PEOPLE can be having severe issues at the SAME TIME. "The more you knoooow :D" Nothing wrong with simping for Ruby Rose but you cant let that blind you friend.
The person I sympathize with most here is Ruby because... I have been there. When you are always the one picking everyone else up, when you're the one who is in a place where you have to be in charge either because it's your job or because no one else will be, when it's al on you to be the pillar that everyone else leans on, everyone else... they will forget that their pillar is only human. Because you're the one who has to be strong, you become less able to be weak to others. Whether through external reasons or an internal pressure, you just lose bit by bit, more and more, the ability to let out your own problems because everyone else needs you, or someone needs help, or gotta handle this immediately. It doesn't really matter who the source of that unspoken expectation is, but in the long run, people forget that you need that support as well. And a pillar can only hold up so much of a load before it crumbles. Ruby was not in the right to call the Paper Pleasers imaginary, but I can't be mad at her. Everything was finally at its breaking point. All the rest of her team, her closest friends, were resolving their issues, working out their emotional baggage, had grown stronger and able to carry their own weight... and none of them saw that Ruby needed them. The outgoing, bubbly, optimistic girl had become quiet, sullen, withdrawn, and I don't think she smiled once in the whole volume, she more than once dropped hints that she was not okay, and they just... missed it. Everyone makes mistakes and I'm not passing judgement on them for it, but there's just something to be said about entirely missing something so obvious. Ruby and Jaune were the ones who needed the most support and help, but I think that what finally tipped the scale for Ruby was seeing them rush to Jaune first, seeing them just... care about someone else and continue to ignore her. "What about me?" Pay strong attention to those three words. So much is said in them. Why is it okay for everyone else to be helped up? Why am I still the only one struggling alone? Why aren't they reaching a hand to me like I always do for them? Why isn't anyone... trying to help me? They tried for Weiss. They tried for Blake. They tried for Yang. They're trying for Jaune. Why not.. me? Do they not care about me? Is how I feel, how I'm doing, what I'm dealing with that unimportant? Am I supposed to still just give them hope when I don't have any left? Do I not matter? And the fact that she more or less blames herself for absolutely everything and has no ability to trust herself anymore... I know and understand the feeling all too well. It's going to be a long time before Ruby is ever close to okay again, and regardless of what happens, the optimistic, bubbly girl is gone. She has passed beyond the veil. I just hope that her friends are able to not just understand how much support Ruby needs, but also are able to give it to her.
I’m with Jaune here actually. Ruby clearly as going after the lowest blows possibly available to her. Weiss not liking her leadership in V1, Yang and Blake dancing around their feelings. Jaune clearly and openly admits he’s not ok and not right in the head. He’s been through more then any single of team RWBY. He went from killing Penny. Yes she begged him to do it, and he gave her agency. But his semblance is literally a life saver but he couldn’t do for her. He then dropped into the Ever after. Got thrown who knows how many years into the past. Had to hope it wasn’t so far that he wouldn’t just die before seeing RWBY again. Then meets befriends, and realizes he’s the hero of a story. That goes off the rails. Gets POISONED by someone he trusted, had a group of people he was protecting actively trying to commit suicide. Then when he finally finds RWBY. Ruby goes off on him, throws his failures in his face. Calls the people he thought he was protecting imaginary. Let’s not forget Pyrrha dying cause he couldn’t stop even one arrow from Cinder, Weiss nearly being killed because Cinder decided to go after her to get to him. Ren and Nora falling apart, and Ren throwing his faked transcripts into his face. Neither were right, and this whole conflict could’ve been avoided had someone talked to Ruby and let her vent before she exploded. I say Ruby cause they had one night, and outside of one outbursts when talking to the cat. No one could’ve know how damaged Jaune was. But Ruby clearly wasn’t ok.
It's called "being taken for granted". The more you help someone, the more people treat it as a norm. The more it's treated like a norm, the more people tend to forget to reciprocate. This happens the most often with Parent-children relationships. Though in this case, this was more of a "break the cutie" trope. Think it started a few seasons back, when the burden of leadership was placed on Ruby instead of Ozpin, who was outed as a liar and Uncle Crow was being a drunk (if not always) Part of the pressure was shared with Ironwood last season and all of it was placed on Ruby this season. The change of gradual, slow, so it's only natural people overlook the smaller things for the bigger things that stand out more. Both Ruby and Jaune had the same problem, only Jaune's was more visibly obvious.
I bottle up my emotions and stuff happens like this. This hits me and honestly I learned to keep myself out of certain things so I can heal. I love Ruby and she's a great representation of depression and guilt. I hope she feels better or maybe finds something to help her.
The moment she snapped shows why Ruby hasn't been getting much character development these past Volumes because she wasn't trying to change in any way. She has basically been behaving as others expected her and bottle up her true feeling instead of taking the appropriate steps to address what she was going trough on the inside. Hopefully now she can begin to heal.
@@kaijuchan97 not everyone can. When you try to vent or open up people more often than not try to gaslight you for the feelings or say 'you're a horrible person' because what you believe is different from another. Be it slightly or drastically. The feeling of depression others try to say it's your fault for being mentally sick. It's your fault for not being happy. Someone is pushing you to your breaking point and you bite them? Your fault
@KaijuChan 97 you don’t always have that option. When I bottle things up it’s because I’ll be in trouble, or I’m under pressure because people expect me to act a certain way and I’d rather not let them down. It goes harder when you find that people rely on you and so you feel when things go wrong it’s your fault for not stepping up. It’s even worse when your family or friends don’t acknowledge mental health until it’s too late and you’re far too broken for them to know what to do. Or yknow- you’re taught feelings are weak from a young age.
I thinks he’s surprised with everyone when she told Blake to “shut up”. Just uncommon of her to say something like that. He still understands the stress since he’s also a fellow leader of a group he feels he’s failed. To be honest this breakdown feels meta in a way.
Like he's got any ground to stand on. I didn't see any grand plan out of him in V7-8. _Everything_ that ever happened to him since his introduction is because he's an under-qualified, under-achiever that insisted in sticking himself in a position over his head. At least Ruby fukkin _tried._ I think these next couple Eps. are going to finally cement the two Jaune camps into permanent opposing positions: you will either LOVE him or HATE him for the rest of the show. There will be no middle ground or indifference.
@@dphalanx7465He didn’t choose to be leader of JNPR, neither of them did. Both are right. Ruby is right that they’ve been pushing her harder then anyone should. That eventually even the most positive people break. Jaune has probably the most trauma of any single member of the main cast. The things he’s done, and he’s far beyond. Both lashed out and attacked in the most petty personal ways that ironically are the ones that are gonna hurt the most. Ruby attacked the only thing Jaune thought he was actually protecting in the paper pleasers and his village. Jaune put all the blame squarely at Ruby’s feet. Something she’s clearly believed. Niether are right and were lashing out. As the old saying goes. Hurt people, hurt other people. Ruby and Jaune are probably the most hurt in the group.
@@dphalanx7465 Ruby technically is at fault since she desired to be like her mother and lead her squad. She can have her breaking point but that doesn’t change the fact she’s constantly made these decision. Jaune has been having doubts since the series started and is breaking from the constant failures. They literally started from two very different ends Ruby knew the route she was going, she’s upset it’s not going her way and finally lashing out. Same with Jaune.
While there is certainly no justification for what Ruby said to Jaune or about the Paper Pleaser's being "Imaginary", but I can only imagine that what Jaune said may have just been the final tipping point for Ruby. Imagine having one of your closest friends and most trusted confidants blaming you for everything from the destruction of an entire kingdom to the death of another close friend. After Jaune says that you can see the clear look of betrayal on Ruby's face. Not just anger or sorrow, but bitter betrayal. I think Jaune's realizes this after hearing Ruby shut Blake down so fast and so coldly.
@@hadrianhexe9603 only guess is cause she's the leader but still remember how yang threw her under the bus that episode ignoring fact the told robin that important secret info behind his back but this is same group who ated clueless why IW went mad.
They should have listened to Ironwood or Ozpin or any of their seniors but this entitled brats think they know better and Salem is gonna come to bite their asses.
Tbh, I keep forgetting Ruby is the youngest one here and is the leader. I also feel like her and Jaune were rightfully mad at Yang and Ruby. For Yang, it's because ever since the whole bumblebee ship was introduced, she's been there for Blake more than her sister and ignoring her. For Ruby, it's obvious why Jaune was rightfully mad at her.
I REALLY hope something happens soon that gives these characters some semblance (no pun intended) of hope. After everything they've been through, they truly deserve to get a fighting chance. I REALLY miss the positive and bubbly Ruby Rose. Maybe have it tampered with all these experiences and maturity, but please bring the Ruby we all know and love back.
I...i don't think that Ruby will come back. Not completely at least. Perhaps she will have some hope back but she will never be the same. Not with what she got trough.
@Steve Whyte Well, I did mention have it tampered by all her experiences and maturity. I'm not really asking for a complete restoration, that's just plain impossible. But just Ruby regaining some of her spark, the life in her eyes if you will, would be enough for me.
I definitely have my own personal thoughts on the scene. You see one of the biggest reasons why Ruby was venting so much, is that she has done so much for everybody else…. But nobody seems to be returning the favor. When her friends are struggling, she’s always there for them…. But when she’s the one that struggling, it’s like she’s getting disregarded. The signs were all there, but her teammates kept ignoring them. Personally, I think it’s intentionally written this way, as a means of having Weiss, Blake and ESPECIALLY Yang learn to NOT take Ruby’s usual positivity and kindness for granted. Jaune’s reaction I can 100% understand, because he’s going through some shit right now as well. But, there’s one VERY SMALL detail that watching the scene again kind of stung for me… and that was Yang’s reaction. All Ruby was doing was simply venting all her frustrations and anguish… BUT rather then comforting and being there for her sister in what is CLEARLY HER TIME OF NEED, she proceeds to protect Blake for absolutely no reason. Gives Ruby a death glare and simply says “HEY”, acting like Ruby was being hostile (which she absolutely wasn’t)… that completely breaks the promise Yang made to Ruby (which has been referenced in the song All Our Days). Let me say it again, this is absolutely not bad writing. If anything, this scene was written, quite well. Probably one of the best scenes in the entire series. And I believe all the character’s actions were intentionally written that way. And on a sidenote, this is the best performance I’ve ever seen from Miles.
I think we might be heading into suicidal territory with Ruby, tbh. I think she’s gonna want to ascend, which is basically just dying. Aha I’m scared for our girl y’all (I know she’s not gonna die obv but that’s a dark place to be)
I think you might be onto something with ruby wanting to ascend…we know the tree is used to make something better or to “fix” something and she probably thinks she’s broken and needs to be fixed so who knows…….
As was once said (abridging it slightly), "that kid is holding onto a lot of fucked up shit inside of that head of hers. It's gotta register eventually." and that honestly applies to most teenage protagonists.
In my opinion this part right here 2:05 you can tell the story Ever After still continued because after Ruby left, She didn't Loop like Episode 1 and 2. Ruby is a Next Alice
Something someone pointed out recently - they always have to keep a lid on their emotions otherwise a ton of Grimm will show up, no grim in the Ever After and now their Rage can be Awakened
Im so glad I watched this part again in this video. I literally didnt catch that Jaune was upset about this fairy tale bridge AND the bridge with Penny.. Like HOLY SHEET!
I like how Yang is shielding Blake from Ruby as if she’s a threat to anyone unarmed. But then again, she felt the need to put her fists up to her own uncle. RT really did a number on her character.
I like that this show has taken the 2 characters that always lifted others up, to having them be the most broken. Nobody saw their struggles as important enough and always had to be there for others, and now its starting to really show how tired and destroyed they are because of how much has gone wrong and nothing ever went right. Good character development.
That scene hit me harder than anything else. We all make mistakes. We all have to make sacrifices for the sake of others. You can't save everyone. All we can do is to learn from it. That's what makes us human.
People are saying that it’s the ever after changing Ruby, but I disagree. I think it’s the chance to unwind even a little, to have a moment to process all the things she’s been going through. Ever since the fall of Beacon, Ruby has always had things to do. Get to the other major cities, get the relics, find a way to defeat Salem, protect Mantle from Salem. Now that she’s gotten a moment to process even a fraction of the bs she’s gone through, I am not surprised that Ruby lashed out at everyone else. She’s basically, even if the others don’t realize it, being isolated by her team by them not having to deal with the weight of everything that’s been happening. While she’s been anguished about the destruction of Mantle, the rest of the team has been going on a wacky adventure through a fantasy land, fighting chess pieces and meeting characters from a story book they all read. Looking back, Ruby’s just been carrying the team emotionally, always taking on the burden of being that beacon of hope they all needed, since she always had some motivational speech ready. It isn’t the ever after changing Ruby, it’s all the things she’s had to go through and process all at once that’s changing Ruby.
Well, from volume 3 to now, everyone has snapped one point or the other. Ruby had always been there even in the ending of volume 3 yang turned her own sister away and she carried own trying her best and now after everything she needs her friends to be there for her
The only way for things to work out give someone space and be supportive when they are at their lowest it is not supposed to be easy in life the thing you can do most get through it with or without support until you finally realized what you lack and what you gain
People wanna put it on ruby that "they should have reached out if they wanted them to comfort her" as if they forgot how yang and blake both tried pushing people away when they were depressed.
Wacthing jaune breakdown hurts. The man just wanted to save someone. To protect someone. Not even the paperstars. This man is just guilt ridden and broken. I feel for this man.
I have been watching this scene over and over, it's so good! Ruby has been bottling up her emotions since summer disappeared. That paired with all of the trauma she's faces since the start of the series? This breakdown was inevitable.
I get the feeling that next episode, Ruby is gonna get cornered by a creature that’ll rub the salt further into the wound and perhaps drive to un-life herself. Creating a massive meta whiplash from the audience. Because apparently, the only effective form of character development is to beat them to beat death. Look at Jason Todd from DC Edit: In light of episode 8... F*ck
Minor thing, but I found it interesting that during Ruby's yelling, Yang stepped in front of Blake as if she felt the need to try and protect her from Ruby
Another I also noticed at 1:58 the expression on Yang, almost tells me that she ready to rip into her sister for saying that, to Blake instead of being surprised like everyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if Neo during their final fight, has Ruby embrace her darkness. Also 02:10 the expressions that WBY are showing, if they want to have any chance of apologising to Ruby, not only will they need a universal sized apology to start making up for sweeping her mental issues aside, but A LOT of therapy if they do return to remnant, to try and rebuild the team.
It was less protecting Blake and more Yang taking the brunt of Ruby’s rant. I watched several times. And to me, Yang doesn’t seem least bit angry at Ruby. More like ”What’s with you?”. Is that fair on Ruby? No. But I don’t think Yang knew what to do with Ruby who had a breakdown like this. None of them did.
@@TiltedPotatohead Look, can we just agree that we interpret this scene differently? But to answer what I can: 1) Sterner than she needs to be, Yes. But ready to deck Ruby? Exxaggeration. 2) That’s fair, Yang should have done something. 3) I don’t think I understand the point. 4) You’re right about Yang not being a sister in this scene.
I usually don't look at character flaws that often but seeing Ruby breakdown like we all knew this was going to happen but now hearing it, feels different like it goes to show that no matter what you do, there's going to be bumps in a plan like the plan to evacuate Atlas was good but Cinder aka “Ms Pain in my Ass” had to use the Lamp's final question to find out about the plan just cause she wanted revenge like there's a reason why Cinder is my most hated character on this show. When Team RWBY and Jaune get out of the Ever After and Cinder finds out that they survived, the corrupted Fall Maiden is going to get what is coming to her and when she finally kicks the bucket, I am going to give no sympathy for her actions. My apologies for what may have became a small rant, but Cinder just finds new ways to get on my nerves.
don’t worry I don’t like cinder either. She’s like a cockroach she just won’t die no matter what and she’s so annoying. When her time comes I won’t be mad at it.
@@latrxcsaep Cinder in my opinion is like a character called Prometheus from DC Comics (more specifically when he shows up in a story called “Cry For Justice”) however unlike Prometheus we don’t even get the satisfaction of seeing her die.
I don't blame either Jaune or Ruby...I know that much. Although to some extent I do feel for Jaune in some ways and can empathize somehow. At the same time, I can't ignore Ruby and what she has faced, and there's things I can empathize with her as well.
The way I see it Jaune is projecting his own situation onto Ruby when he snaps. He spent years protecting a village that didn't even want his protection so that he can feel better about his past failures which in some regards is understandable but its not healthy. Just like Ruby trying to stay positive and not properly addressing he own trauma was not healthy. Hopefully now that it has been brought out there both can start the healing process and become much stronger.
@@TheSkyrider27 Not only that but his failure with Alyx and Lewis. And there's Ruby with all her failings and having to put all her issues aside has taken a toll on her.

@@mr.villainous3748 Yeah, I've had some MINOR issues with how the plot has gone in this show, lol. It's also personal for me because I have some people in my life who ruin things or make bad situations worse and then blame everyone else other than themselves and then expect ME to fix it. Hence why Yang is a character I'm actively hoping dies
Yeah I don’t get your point towards Jaune at all. Just because someone is weak and incapable doesn’t give you the right to bully them and calling them a loser for essentially no reason other than being an elitist in the favor of the skilled and capable. Also, saying that the paper dude’s are “fake” just because you haven’t spend enough time with them makes you pretty selfish, it really would sell the point that you legitimately only care about yourself and about what you feel, calling them fake would be like calling your friend’s friends or pets fake because you don’t know them, Jaune has literally spent years longer with them than with you, the value of sentient life has no meaning to you. What may have no meaning to you may have a huge meaning to someone else. Imagine your friend’s family died that you’ve never met before, are you going to call them fake and meaningless because they don’t apply to you? Same thing here. Also, who are you to judge what people should and should not do? Jaune doesn’t have to be a healer if he doesn’t want to, he can work hard to be a hero if he wants to, he doesn’t have to comply to anyone. When Jaune would say “It’s all about you”, all you retaliate is with “haha you’re a loser, you lost more than I did so that makes me better”, what kind of counter argument is that? That’s just coping and egotistical Honestly you kind of just picked on and him and bullied him because… “lol he can’t fight, lol he lost his girl, lol his friends r made out of paper, lol he’s a side character”- there’s not much to pick apart about him, he’s just chilling and doing his best even tho he isn’t super relevant and powerless, he might have done nothing in the grande scheme, but he tried- that’s what mattered, not the part where he didn’t manage to get anything done. That’s like saying someone failed to stop a nuclear bomb doing literally everything they could to help, are you going to bully him over it? He did everything he could to do something about it, you’re just being an ass. That’s like if you’re at gunpoint and your friend is trying to save you in anyway you can but fails. Are you going to call them a loser? Stupid? Useless? No he was trying to save your life. Failing doesn’t mean your efforts equate to nothing. PS: “you” would refer to Ruby in this case
@@smashtwig6765 TBF, that’s kinda the point: Ruby IS being selfish. She’s lashing out at everyone because she’s been emotional suppressed to breaking point. I’m not suggesting that her behavior is the right thing to do, I’m simply suggesting what I would’ve done in her shoes in the context of the scene. If I were to step in as myself in a neutral capacity, I likely wouldn’t even address Jaune or Weiss. I’d likely just go off on Yang and Blake since they’re the ones most responsible for the predicament everyone is in
I honestly think that ruby was pretty valid for being upset and done. But jaun went thru absolute hell. Everyone thought less of him, like he was a burden for a while. And even when he became leader of the team he dealt with hella pressure. The girl he loved died, his family isn’t there. He lives with guilt of not being able to save people and murdering penny all the time AND he was alone for decades. He constantly feels like he’s not good enough and he’s broken mentally to the point where he named the star pleasers after his friends and family and cried when they ascended. Hope he gets a major win soon
Ruby pretty much broke down like Steven (from Steven Universes) did in the climax of his final season. Both couldn’t take it anymore and fell apart from their burden of “being themselves” (resulting in them lashing out at everyone). They both held on their respective "negative" feelings and didn't reach out to their friends to help them for it. Like Steven, it appears Ruby is gonna need the same “treatment”. The power/magic of friendship to snap her out of it.
Only this is actually done well and it totally makes sense that were at this point for Ruby. Whereas they had to contrive trauma for Steven to get to his breaking point faster. Including the gems suddenly being totatlly unaware that anything was wrong with him including AMYTHYST who made it a point and promise to be mindful of his mental state. Sorry but Future really pissed me off.
@@Cloud-dt6xb not really it was a long time showing of his trauma from early even if they didnt show it won't be surprising and rwby wasn't better with every1 being oblivious to ruby's suffering and yang showing more concern over blake then rwby
@@93ImagineBreaker Different situations in steven universe's case we already had a much better example of Steven's trauma being addressed in the episode I mentioned with Amaythst. What that episode did is make us aware that Steven's issues were'nt going unaware of, and it seemed to be resolved by the time the orignal show ended. Then Future happens and starts contriving bs even messing with one of the best father and son relationships in media like we're supposed to suddenly believe he hated his childhood enough to ALMOST KILL his dad In Rwby's case though this is coming after a long string of hell just continuing to break loose over and over with every attempt to close it blowing up in their faces. And unlike with Steven Ruby's habit of masking her own issues has'nt been broken yet. When she first started doing it the other 3 were having their own personal issues to work through and by the time they were stable enough where they could help her she'd already been doing it so long that they just assumed she was fine. It's not something they did purposely it's just over time they became convinced that nothing could really shake her. I like the execution of this much better.
I'd say Stevens is a little bit better because he was more or less realizing that he isn't a good guy anymore. He fucking murdered a gem, and tried to murder one of his aunts. Along with him basically having to be positive constantly because his word is law for everybody. Ruby's is more that she's realizing that she's really fucked up and is most likely gonna die because of how badly she's fucked up as a leader LMAO. Jaune meanwhile probably beats out both Steven and Ruby because he's a mentally broken man losing the only people that kept him mentally positive for years, if not decades by himself.
Holy shit, Ruby's bit of dialogue around 0:17 and 0:36 is shit I've been saying a lot lately. Feel like I'm looking in a mirror, even though what I'm dealing with is real shit and not the crazy Alice in Wonderland type of chaos going on in the show. I may not be fighting grimm or have crazy silver eyes, but that HIT HOME for me because I've been the one trying to hold it together all semester long. I have no time for myself, just like Ruby said.
Thing is, Jaune knows it’s not just her fault that they’re in this situation. He even says he knows he isn’t okay and that he’s not right. But it’s all just become too much for our pair of leaders
Both Ruby and Jaune have valid points for snapping at everyone. Just wished the next episode(s) would release much earlier than the following week. But the scene where it's Weiss, Blake & Yang looking out into the distance where Ruby disappeared off into the expressions they're giving, they know they have messed up beyond immeasurable proportions, because of the neglect and negative vibes that they have demonstrated towards Ruby, so I wouldn't be surprised that Ruby has an Anti-Hero stint before returning home because of this, with a possibility that Neo is the one who inadvertently teaches Ruby those concepts - despite wanting Ruby dead. If Weiss, Blake & Yang do agree that need to make things right and acknowledge Ruby's state of mind, they will need not only a miracle to find her before she leaves them in the Ever After, but an apology that goes beyond the simple hug it out, accept that need to help her out with mental state, but whole heartedly agree that they need to stop putting their own needs above everyone else* (*Weiss is still dealing with the loss of home, I'm talking about Yang and Blake), stick together no matter what like Weiss said in Vol. 7 Ep. 4, as a family to the bitter end. Also Yang needs to pull a galactic sized apology, and make up with her sister big time. I do like that they made YangxBlake canon (forgot the abbreviation 😂), but it should've been done in volume 7, not volume 9 whilst Ruby has gone way past the breaking point and needs her sister, now more than ever - trying to give a balanced criticism about Ruby and Yang.
hmm the thing about Blake and Yang getting together before now is that there was never really a time for them to make a decision like that. The only reason they got together was because the ever after literally forced them to. Yang has always been there for Ruby and will continue to be. We also have to remember that Yang isn’t responsible for everything Ruby does, Yang is her own person with her own problems. And sometimes you have to take care of yourself before you try to take care of others or else you’ll just bring them down with you. That’s just the most rational thing to do in general. If Yang had died falling into the void for Ruby in volume 8, she would’ve never found love or happiness. And I don’t think that’s fair to Yang at all. Let her have this because if anyone deserves it, it’s her. Yang is quite literally the strength of their group I would go so far as to say the glue she has strong bonds with everyone in the group and has sacrificed her life without thinking twice too many times in the name of rwby. If anything someone needs to talk to Yang about that, her way of always wanting to sacrifice her life because she feels it’s less than or not as important as theirs. Yang would rather leave them in death than them ever leave her at all. And I think that’s a big problem that needs to be dealt with. Ruby or anyone else for that matter never, never talked to Yang about that. But I guess we’re not ready for that conversation yet? My conclusion is as always nobody did anything wrong in this scene. It was handled as it should’ve been and I have no problems with it.
You all know how Jaden from Yugioh GX has to suffer with all of the worst elements of reality crashing down on him? (specifically during Season 3)… Ruby is no different here… 😓
Therapy and a whole lot of group communication could have gone a long way but no it is time and time again everyone forgets that they are young with a whole lot of plot twist after plot twist
What should have happened: RUBY: We are all soo happy for you... In fact, you two deserve each other: you both let your loved ones down and then walkaway when things get complicated and you don't know how to deal with them! Like Blake here did with Adam and you, after the Fall of Beacon... BLAKE: 👁👄👁 RUBY: And you, sister did with dad and now me. Raven would be soo proud of you! YANG: 😨😰😱 RUBY: As for you, Weiss... you were right. Ozpin made a mistake when he made me the leader. Are you happy now??? Weiss: 😳😳😳
Jaune - "I was the only one that could do it. I was the only one! And I- And now I have to live with that forever... in here or back home..." Caboose - "What about Church?" Grif - "Let it go, Caboose. All of you. He's been resurrected more times than Jean Grey. It's getting old." Tucker - "Seriously dude? You've always been selfish, but this is bullshit." Blake - "Guys, I know things are bad but-" Grif - "I don't like you. ANY of you of you. But we've all known each other long enough, that you should hear it from me, first. I'm done..." Caboose - "He can't- He can't do that! Someone do something-" Ruby - "Shut. Up. Don't. Do that. Just don't..." *Grif and Ruby left the party* Sarge - "Grif! Ruby! Desertion is punishable by death! So keep going! Desertion means leaving the military, not eating desert! Seriously Grif and Ruby, turn around..."
I think at that moment, nobody was exactly at the wrong. Ruby had been through so much, and she hid all those problems she had by "staying positive" and Jaune, as he stated, he was alone, for so long, that the people (beings) he wanted to protect, he failed Ruby and Jaune is somehow similar. They both tried, and failed in protecting something. They both have bottled up emotions. Let's also not forget that despite what they all been through, Ruby's just a child that was "burdened by a daunting responsibility" as Ozpin had stated in Volume 1 and now, we see how that burden affects her, and being someone that people depend on and someone that inspires everyone, it's not easy. It is difficult when everyone expects so much of a person and having to meet that expectation. People assumes that Ruby can give them answers, lead them and whatnot but it is not always the case. When people put you in that kind of pedestal, it's difficult to voice out that you're burning inside, that you're suffering so it's difficult to communicate with others In Jaune's case, everyone now knows what he's been through, but we can't exactly say since there still might be some story that was left unsaid. And what he felt, I mean, if I was in his shoes, I'd go insane. The world he's in, the Ever After, there's just so much concept that despite being there for too long, there's a possibility that what he knows (about the tree) is not exactly the truth, but he can't just accept the sentiments of the cat about the tree but it's really hard to know since they all know nothing of the Ever After, and risking to do something that may result in grave consequences is not something all of them would like. It brings the concept of "the unknown is scary" kind of thing I hope Jaune, Ruby, and everyone else would be okay. And help find Ruby, as much as personal development goes, demons will snag on people when they're at their lowest, so I hope they can help each other out
Anybody played the new GOWR?? Remember sindri, and how his story arc is now?? Seems similar to this, if you ask me.. Ruby is basically the giving tree 🌳...and at this point, she's basically a stump...
It always hit me when everyone one else aside from Jaune and Ruby just went with the flow, Ruby, having to deal with being the leader and maintaining that mentality, constantly doubting herself, The entire concept of her mom, and the crushing anxiety of when shit turns bad and powerless to change it. Along with Jaune’s newly attained hero complex (justified tho), dreaded loneliness, guilt of not being able to save penny, lack of trust with that whole tree thing, multiple years of solitude basically, etc. I like the fact they hit their limit with their Pyrrha and Penny hole shaped hearts. Idk about the other 3 tbh.
The other 3 went through their traumas beforehand. And like most people in the wrold, they never truly considered that others would have their scars as well. Jaune and Ruby (especially) just shouldered everyone else burden for all this time.
Other 3 had their trumas before hand. And worked it out. However out of all of them only one is able to help. Yang and Blake are to blind to stuff outside of their relationship, Wiess is the sane one of the group but is pretty much in a position which she is uncomfortable with
@@PrincessLockette She wanted to avoid this very breakdown, cause she knew it would devastate Ruby, yet its happening anyway cause of the massive trauma Conga Ruby's had since Atlas.
I knew this was coming, from the moment Penny died. Pardon my French, but FUCK! The ugly thing is that Ruby has a point, Jaune has a point, Blake has a point, EVERYONE has a point. They’re ALL in some way F*cked. I could set each of them in a psych chair for a MONTH and not run out of crap to go over, but there simply isn’t TIME, even though they all desperately need something like that. I do appreciate how Ozpin saw this coming back in Volume 5. He’s used to being the pillar too. I guess they both hit their breaking point.
Do you know why Ruby snapped at Blake and Yang? They get to be happy. Full stop. Meanwhile, her knight in shining armor barely noticed she is a girl, has rusted armor, a broken sword, and worse PTSD than she does. And right now she's so consumed with despair that she can't think about anything other than herself and what she doesn't get to have. Go back to V4. Playful banter ribbing Juane about his hair, acting for all the world like a girl with a crush, and then waking up and following Pyrrah's voice to discover that Juane was so hung up on another girl that he was torturing himself just to feel close to her. Fast forward to V6 and he really looks worried about them splitting up, and then when they are reunited he has actual tears seeing her and go ahead and time their hug. And how excited was Ruby to be meeting Juane's family... MUCH more than is normal for a friend. Then she stood up to her uncle for him.... and then nothing. Everything else just got in the way. The girls didn't know how to handle just one of them breaking, but it's BOTH of them at the same time. Juane is in no place to pull Ruby back, and the girls aren't either, but somehow they are going to have to.
Don't blame the others for Ruby's lashing out. Maybe the others could've looked a little closer at Ruby to see that she wasn't feeling so great emotionally. However, it's primarily Ruby's fault for keeping her troubles to herself and bottling them up until her frustration exploded out of her rather than try and talk about her troubles with them. Sure, she was trying to keep it together for the team, but that'll only get a leader and their team so far. It certainly would've helped to talk about her troubles with her own sister Yang. Blake made a similar mistake before when she left after the Fall of Beacon without saying a word. Just like with Blake back then, Yang and the others can't help Ruby now if she won't let them.
This has to be one of the most depressing scene in any RWBY volumes, I wonder what will Ruby and Jean do now? Everything is out of control right now for them and they are unstable.
Welp, and here I was, wondering if RWBY has changed at all. Nope. This series has just become a recurring lesson in that evil can't be stopped, and no one can be saved. Fantastic.
Poor Ruby.😢😢😢😢😢 You know what I've just realized? Since Volume 3, she's left Patch with Jaune, Ren, and Nora on their way to Haven in Mistral for her family's safety to give Yang some time to heal. Now, in this volume, she's left her own team and Jaune to figure some things out for herself. So...that's twice Ruby has ran away. But...what's gonna happen when Neo finds her all by herself?
A random fact: Luffy from One Piece will never have a breakdown like Ruby showed here (never be burden to do what he thinks is right and snap at his crew for it). It's not just because he’s stupid, he actually “depends” (like really relies both mentally and physically) on his friends just as much they depend on him (a pure natural circle). He never holds back on anything which can (comedically) stress his friends instead. He is truly "free" as a result. While Ruby held on her inner turmoils of doing the right thing (and failing them), and it eats her up like a parasite. While her friends have depend on her for their issues, She hasn't really "depend depend" on her friends and didn't release that stress until now. Like Ruby said, "Why do I have to always be the one to pick people up. What about me?".
@@Cloud-dt6xb You seem to be misunderstanding something. I'm trying to point out Luffy would never lash out at his friends like Ruby did to her friends (would never do things like say he can't take it being leader, hold back any culminated unstable stress/anger and take it out at his crew, and running away from his responsibilities and friends out of constant failures/self doubt). Luffy is honest to a fault where he won't hold back on any of his desires/issues/turmoil and actually shares it (constantly) with his crew. In turn, his crew actually supports/helps him through it and vice versa which frees them of any potential mental breakdowns (like I said, a "pure" natural circle). That's the difference between him and Ruby. She kept holding back (all her negative feelings/outbursts), and never truly mentally relied on her friends as a result. This is a natural burden when its comes to being an actual responsible leader. It's why Luffy isn't exactly perceived as "responsible/competent leader" compared to his crew (more often its Nami lol). Your example is not exactly same kind of mental breakdown I'm talking about. As you said, Luffy lost his crew (he lost what kept him mentally stress free and stable). Without his crew around at the time he had no one to "reply/depend" on when he lost Ace. If it wasn't for Jinbei (who even pointed out that he had people to help his mental turmoil) Luffy would've been messed up like Jeanne right now.
haha I agree with you. Luffy never doubts his friends no matter what. Never thought I’d see things about one piece on a rwby video but the surprise is welcome ❤
@@KimKim-mt2km Well unlike Luffy, Ruby's friends don't really have her best interests in mind and was always the one who supports them but they rarely do in return. Luffy's crew supports him 100% just as he would for them.

Besides the other three shit really hit the fan for ruby starting at the end of volume 7 everything she ever suggested went wrong in the worst ways possible including her plan that would have worked if cinder hadn't been such a pain in the side same with neo
My opinion on this scene is that nobody here was wrong for anything they did everyone was in their respective rights to do exactly as they did. The feelings that were felt, the raw emotions that were shown on their faces, everything was as it should have been.
RWBY do the good job to make the "nobody was wrong but no one was right" scene

The way they animated Ruby's face at 1:14 is amazing. She's at that point where she's mad and on the verge of tears and they animated it so well.
Also the subtle trembling of her mouth and shoulders, it's amazingly well done
I don’t think she’s mad, she’s hurt and feeling it worse at that moment cuz he’s saying all the same things that dark part of yourself whispers in your mind. “It’s all your fault, this happened because of you, ect.
Same for jaune face when he said he was sorry I know I'm not right
It almost reminds me of how they animated young cinder's face in some scenes-no i'm not trying to create a bridge between ruby and cinder there, its more just props to the animators-partly on how far the animation of rwby has come from the start but also how well they do emotions-so far this and last volume have been on point for that.
Jaune's performance was way better. Sorry but a teenage girl having an emotional tantrum does not hold the weight of a guy spending 30 years ALONE and having enough of hearing a kid whinge.

Ruby's just done with this crap. And I don't blame her one bit.
Jaune is as well, and he can't be blamed either. All he's been trying to do is do right for his friends and be there to protect them and have their backs. It's been terrible for the both of them.

Hats off to Ruby's voice actress.
Think it started a few seasons back, when the burden of leadership was placed on Ruby instead of Ozpin, who was outed as a liar and Uncle Crow was being a drunk (if not always)
Part of the pressure was shared with Ironwood last season and all of it was placed on Ruby this season.
It's not good to keep your emotions bottled up. You need to let them out, or you'll break down like Ruby did.
Your fault
Bottles are for water.
I love how Jaune said all that shit and is still surprised when Ruby is less than amiable afterward.
I thinks he’s surprised with everyone when she told Blake to “shut up”.
Just uncommon of her to say something like that. He still understands the stress since he’s also a fellow leader of a group he feels he’s failed.
To be honest this breakdown feels meta in a way.
That honestly says a lot about how much everyone took her for granted as the one who's always brave, optimistic, and lifts their spirits.
Like he's got any ground to stand on. I didn't see any grand plan out of him in V7-8. _Everything_ that ever happened to him since his introduction is because he's an under-qualified, under-achiever that insisted in sticking himself in a position over his head. At least Ruby fukkin _tried._
I think these next couple Eps. are going to finally cement the two Jaune camps into permanent opposing positions: you will either LOVE him or HATE him for the rest of the show.
They literally started from two very different ends
Ruby knew the route she was going, she’s upset it’s not going her way and finally lashing out. Same with Jaune.
This entire scene was amazing.
Let's take a moment to appreciate my favourite thing,
The voice acting.
Specifically Jaune, but also Ruby-
SO GOOD omg
I love how Jaune still says sorry and accepts that something is wrong with himself.
I mean, he is the adult here.

@@cedriclacomblez9827 I agree. This here is all about evolution.

@Steve Whyte Well, I did mention have it tampered by all her experiences and maturity. I'm not really asking for a complete restoration, that's just plain impossible. But just Ruby regaining some of her spark, the life in her eyes if you will, would be enough for me.
@@troymanansala7739 She probably will, but in a more serious way, I suppose.
The tree will be their solution to the salem problem IMO so despite things getting so messed up, it had to happen this way.
Aha I’m scared for our girl y’all (I know she’s not gonna die obv but that’s a dark place to be)
I've been thinking that Ruby would want to improve herself that way for a LONG WHILE now!
I think you might be onto something with ruby wanting to ascend…we know the tree is used to make something better or to “fix” something and she probably thinks she’s broken and needs to be fixed so who knows…….

I've been waiting 5 volumes for this scene and I wasn't disappointed
I like that this show has taken the 2 characters that always lifted others up, to having them be the most broken. Nobody saw their struggles as important enough and always had to be there for others, and now its starting to really show how tired and destroyed they are because of how much has gone wrong and nothing ever went right. Good character development.
It's weird I can honestly see this happening with Team STRQ, particularly after Summer disappeared.
Tbh that started with Raven leaving them and then summer disappearing
No, team strq died the day Raven abandoned them to go back to her tribe
😮😮

Look at Jason Todd from DC

Minor thing, but I found it interesting that during Ruby's yelling, Yang stepped in front of Blake as if she felt the need to try and protect her from Ruby
It kinda pissed me off. They had an arc in v6 about “protecting eachother”, and eitherway she is prioritizing blake over her sister again
@@TiltedPotatohead Then you and I have a different definition of angry.
@@TiltedPotatohead Look, can we just agree that we interpret this scene differently?

@@mr.villainous3748 Yeah, I've had some MINOR issues with how the plot has gone in this show, lol.
That’s just coping and egotistical
Honestly you kind of just picked on and him and bullied him because… “lol he can’t fight, lol he lost his girl, lol his friends r made out of paper, lol he’s a side character”- there’s not much to pick apart about him, he’s just chilling and doing his best even tho he isn’t super relevant and powerless, he might have done nothing in the grande scheme, but he tried- that’s what mattered, not the part where he didn’t manage to get anything done.
I’d likely just go off on Yang and Blake since they’re the ones most responsible for the predicament everyone is in
Bet
What that episode did is make us aware that Steven's issues were'nt going unaware of, and it seemed to be resolved by the time the orignal show ended. Then Future happens and starts contriving bs even messing with one of the best father and son relationships in media like we're supposed to suddenly believe he hated his childhood enough to ALMOST KILL his dad
In Rwby's case though this is coming after a long string of hell just continuing to break loose over and over with every attempt to close it blowing up in their faces.

Honestly, Ruby getting mad and storming off was similar to Blake in Volume 1.
I agree!
Holy shit.. Ruby finally breaks in front of everyone. Jaune actually tells off Ruby. Then Ruby tells Blake, "Shut up".
"I'm no leader. I can't even beat Shadow of War on easy. I kept getting killed by the same damn orc!"
I guess trauma really does anything to people
You all know how Jaden from Yugioh GX has to suffer with all of the worst elements of reality crashing down on him? (specifically during Season 3)…
Ruby is no different here… 😓
That was my least favorite arc. Jaden vs the Mad King, I kinda lost interest after that. I remember season 1 and 2 were amazing. 3 was decent
Unlike Ruby she tells her teammates off of how suffered she is.
Therapy and a whole lot of group communication could have gone a long way but no it is time and time again everyone forgets that they are young with a whole lot of plot twist after plot twist
What should have happened:
RUBY: We are all soo happy for you... In fact, you two deserve each other: you both let your loved ones down and then walkaway when things get complicated and you don't know how to deal with them! Like Blake here did with Adam and you, after the Fall of Beacon...
BLAKE: 👁👄👁
RUBY: And you, sister did with dad and now me. Raven would be soo proud of you!
YANG: 😨😰😱
RUBY: As for you, Weiss... you were right. Ozpin made a mistake when he made me the leader. Are you happy now???
Weiss: 😳😳😳
El desarrollo de los personajes en esta temporada es asombró
Nice to see Jaune grow some balls
😂
True I was waiting so long for him to give someone the fck you talk
Hasn’t he always been prone to lash out at people? This isn’t really anything new
@@BeekoBaggins not really it happened two times but it was more like blind rage
Jaune - "I was the only one that could do it. I was the only one! And I- And now I have to live with that forever... in here or back home..."
Caboose - "What about Church?"
Grif - "Let it go, Caboose. All of you. He's been resurrected more times than Jean Grey. It's getting old."
Tucker - "Seriously dude? You've always been selfish, but this is bullshit."
Blake - "Guys, I know things are bad but-"
Grif - "I don't like you. ANY of you of you. But we've all known each other long enough, that you should hear it from me, first. I'm done..."
Caboose - "He can't- He can't do that! Someone do something-"
Ruby - "Shut. Up. Don't. Do that. Just don't..."
*Grif and Ruby left the party*
Sarge - "Grif! Ruby! Desertion is punishable by death! So keep going! Desertion means leaving the military, not eating desert! Seriously Grif and Ruby, turn around..."
Would’ve brought everything full circle and been a perfect callback if rubes mumbled ozpin made a mistake before storming off.
After seeing this, the sense of urgency was so good, it makes me missed the simple times at Beacon.
ruby's fight with her friends is really painful to watch...but anyway, nothing goes right.
Jaune just cant catch a break 😥
I think at that moment, nobody was exactly at the wrong. Ruby had been through so much, and she hid all those problems she had by "staying positive" and Jaune, as he stated, he was alone, for so long, that the people (beings) he wanted to protect, he failed
Ruby and Jaune is somehow similar. When people put you in that kind of pedestal, it's difficult to voice out that you're burning inside, that you're suffering so it's difficult to communicate with others
In Jaune's case, everyone now knows what he's been through, but we can't exactly say since there still might be some story that was left unsaid. It brings the concept of "the unknown is scary" kind of thing
I hope Jaune, Ruby, and everyone else would be okay.
My two favorite characters are so broken right now😢
It always hit me when everyone one else aside from Jaune and Ruby just went with the flow,
Ruby, having to deal with being the leader and maintaining that mentality, constantly doubting herself, The entire concept of her mom, and the crushing anxiety of when shit turns bad and powerless to change it.
Yang and Blake are to blind to stuff outside of their relationship, Wiess is the sane one of the group but is pretty much in a position which she is uncomfortable with
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent Not to mention, she *knows* that Jaune killed Penny, and yet is too cowardly to tell Ruby the truth
@@PrincessLockette She wanted to avoid this very breakdown, cause she knew it would devastate Ruby, yet its happening anyway cause of the massive trauma Conga Ruby's had since Atlas.
Man I wish I could cry for my failures Ruby, you're lucky...
Its pretty funny, hey look at ruby breaking down at 1440p.
Her face at 0:15 damn
I think Little is gonna be the one to pull her from the edge
Error!404: First time?
This has to be one of the most depressing scene in any RWBY volumes, I wonder what will Ruby and Jean do now? Everything is out of control right now for them and they are unstable.
Jaune didn't let that slide
Welp, and here I was, wondering if RWBY has changed at all. Nope. This series has just become a recurring lesson in that evil can't be stopped, and no one can be saved. Fantastic.
That's what you get for riding on optimism 24/7
Poor Ruby.😢😢😢😢😢 You know what I've just realized? Since Volume 3, she's left Patch with Jaune, Ren, and Nora on their way to Haven in Mistral for her family's safety to give Yang some time to heal. Now, in this volume, she's left her own team and Jaune to figure some things out for herself. So...that's twice Ruby has ran away. But...what's gonna happen when Neo finds her all by herself?
Why dose this remind me of Ned Flanders breakdown in the simpsons?????😅
Yo, I might watch this show again
I guess you just forgot when he lost his crew or when Ace died huh?
Robin and Sanji my favorites tho!! 😭 also love franky and brook and chopper too the whole crew is just so lovable it’s hard to choose.
@@KimKim-mt2km Well unlike Luffy, Ruby's friends don't really have her best interests in mind and was always the one who supports them but they rarely do in return. Luffy's crew supports him 100% just as he would for them.

Blake and Yang only care about each other now
Rwby really starting to look like Spec Ops The Line.
"Do you feel like a hero yet?"
Besides the other three shit really hit the fan for ruby starting at the end of volume 7 everything she ever suggested went wrong in the worst ways possible including her plan that would have worked if cinder hadn't been such a pain in the side same with neo
The fact that Jaune makes it about himself in the middle of ruby venting 😭💀
